THE VALLEY OF FEAR part one tbh there are so many iconic lines in this one (“you are scintillating this morning, Watson”) (“One more coruscation, my dear Watson - yet another brain-wave!”) it’s obnoxious
(This is part of the Watsons sketchbook series!)

At the time of which I speak, Holmes had been back for some months, and I at his request had sold my practice and returned to share the old quarters in Baker Street. (The Adventure of the Norwood Builder)
Some post-Empty House thoughts.

I was listening to a Sherlock Holmes audiobook with automatically generated subtitles and it uhhh got a little bit confused over a particular name.
Was this a productive use of my Sunday afternoon? Questionable.
Did I have fun? Definitely.
TRANSCRIPT BELOW CUT
Holmes is sat in his chair in his rooms in Baker Street. Dr Watson looks at him in surprise
Watson:  I don't believe it, Holmes. You say you have a brother who has greater intelligence than you?
Holmes: Oh indeed, Watson. My brother Minecraft Holmes possesses a far greater faculty for observation and deduction than I. He simply uses it in his own esoteric interest. If we visit him at his club in Pall Mall, I can show you.
Somewhere in Pall Mall...
Holmes and Watson enter a room where the 'absolutely corpulent' figure of Holmes' brother is standing over a large machine with numerous cams and wheels.
Sherlock: My dear Minecraft!
Watson: (to Holmes) I say! What is that incredible machine
Minecraft: Sherlock, old boy! You've come at an excellent moment.
Sherlock: (to Watson)  It is a computational device, inspired by Babbage's analytical engine. With it, Minecraft can perform calculations beyond the capability of the human mind.
Watson: What kinds of things does he calculate?
Minecraft: Apparently there is an ocean monument within 120 blocks of my spawn point. If can only find some diamond to mine obsidian and create a Nether Portal, I can aquire a blaze rod and some Netherwart to make an underwather breathing potion.
Holmes and Watson stare at him - Watson bewildered, Holmes resigned.

I am now imagining Watson, charming fuck he is, getting into a conversation with someone at his club. Off hand he mentions his flatmate Sherlock Holmes (bc he's hopelessly in love and its everyone elses problem), and the stranger replies "oh yeah, I know his work." And Johns like, "yes I suppose people are aware of his activities in the feild of detection." And the stranger just stares at him like, "huh, no I read his monograph, he's a detective? wild." and John has to be completely normal about the fact that this random banker read THE MONOGRAPH ABOUT ASH.
4 what is the plot bunny you’ve been carrying for the longest? optional bonus question: do you ever wonder why you haven’t written it yet and experience deep existential dread?
For the Holmes fandom, I guess it's about someone actually reading Holmes's monograph about ash. :D I once read a post that said something like "One thing all Holmes adaptions have in common is that nobody has ever read his monograph about ash" and I feel kind of bad for him. So I guess I would make Watson do it as a labour of love (there's no other reason anyone would ever read it, sorry, Holmes). No existential dread (yet) because I only had this idea maybe half a year ago. I am sure I have millions of headcanons for fandoms I left, but they went back into their burrows unwritten. :D

MYCROFT INTERLUDE - an imagined conversation between Holmes and Mycroft in 1888, after the events of the Greek Interpreter, when Watson and Mycroft meet for the first time. I was thinking about the 1885 Labouchere Amendment and Mycroft being protective of his younger brother.
