i just think its so stupid how people try and paint ei as this cold, uncaring god. yes, they fucked up immensley and this isn't a post where im trying to be like "maybe they had the right idea" because i don't (and frankly characters, especially gods, always doing the right thing makes for shitty storytelling) but the motive behind it IS because they cared too much for their people. they were afraid of erosion, they wanted to protect inazuma and tried to rule it the way they thought best. once again, it was not the right way. but it is important to realize ei was not supposed to rule because that was makoto's job. makoto was supposed to be the kind archon and ei, her shadow. but then everything happened and thats where they were left. i do not think ei is an inherently bad person. there's no way i can call anyone who genuinely cared so much for their nation a bad person. were they a bad ruler? yes. but the end of the archon quest proved they were going to try and be better so i think they're very well on their way to being a better ruler.
anyway ei is an incredibly complicated character and reducing them to one thing or another is a disservice because they ARE the antagonist in their own archon quest but i do not think they are evil incarnate.
