In September 2017, a tragic accident occurred when Esmeralda's mother climbed onto an uninsulated power transformer and was killed. Esmeralda, just a few months old at the time, clung to her mother's back and was badly electrocuted, sustaining electrical burns to her face, tail, feet, back, and hand. Several of her fingers were so severely burned that amputation became necessary.
Despite the challenges, Esmeralda, a resilient infant howler monkey, fought hard to overcome her injuries. She underwent nearly three years of rehabilitation, learning essential survival skills such as climbing and foraging, and even making friends with some of the other infant howlers at our center in Costa Rica.
Esmeralda, and many howler monkeys just like her, owe their survival to YOU! Without our supporters, many injured animals simply would not be here today. We can’t thank you enough!

Misha has endured unimaginable trauma, and now more than ever, he desperately needs YOUR support. He requires urgent dental treatment to relieve him from the constant pain of his severely damaged teeth, caused by gnawing on the bars of his cage while in captivity.
The bear in this photo is Norman, another rescued bear who received the dental treatment he needed. This is the future we envision for Misha, but we can only make it happen with your support.
Misha’s journey to recovery doesn't stop with the surgery; he also needs comprehensive rehabilitation at FPWC’s rescue center to overcome the physical and emotional scars left by his past suffering.
We are over half way towards our $25,000 target, and we need ONE MORE PUSH to raise the vital funds needed to give Misha a life free from pain!
