11. Blood Works
Kitsunami was fiddling nervously with his tablet as he sat in the main room of the Chaotix' hut. Vector and Charmy were sitting on the other side, each trying to busy themselves with different things. Vector put up his feet on the desk, headphones on his ears as he listened to music. Charmy was shuffling through a comic book, humming to himself.
Espio was not present. Kitsunami's gaze landed on the locked bedroom door. He lost track of how much time has passed since they closed.
As soon as the shock of seeing Kitsunami and Tails had passed, the Chaotix led them back to the hut. Espio left almost immediately, promising to come back with a doctor as quickly as he could. Vector and Charmy did all they could to take care of the injured fox until then.
By the time Espio and the doctor rushed back in, as quickly as the chameleon promised, the two detectives and the fennec all had their gloves tainted red from trying to stop the constant flow of blood. It was truly a miracle they didn't lose Tails before help arrived. As soon as he came, the doctor pushed everyone out of the bedroom, leaving only Espio to assist him in treating the fox.
Vector and Charmy somehow managed to convince Kitsunami to check for his own injuries. Luckily, they were small, only some burns and scratches he suffered from the plane crash. When the fennec was deemed as alright as he could be, they provided him some water and food, as well as a change of gloves, and then left to his own devices until the doctor was finished with Tails.
It's been two hours since the door to the bedroom closed behind the doctor. Two hours since Kit was sat on the sofa. Two hours since he last saw Tails alive.

The Convention
Takes place in my Knuckles MacPherson au.
Something something, Cal is out of town for a convention, leaving Knux behind for Wade to look after. Something something, Knux and Wade decide with their shared brain cell to head out on a road trip and end up at the place where Callie’s convention is taking place. Not wanting to get caught, they’ve been trying to avoid her and keep a low profile, which, let’s face it, is impossible with these two.
Eventually, Cal’s bored and decides to call and check in on her boys.
~~~
Wade’s eyes went wide as he stared at his phone screen. The picture he’d set for Callie’s number stared at him, a smiling redhead dropping one eye in a wink.
“Do not answer it,” Knuckles said, his eyes flicking from the screen to Wade. “She will know.”
“She’s not gonna know,” Wade said, but his chest tightened all the same. “How’s she gonna know?”
“She always knows.”
“Just relax, I’ll handle it.” He thumbed the green icon and brought the phone to his ear. “Hey, Cal!” His voice was too loud, too chipper. Knuckles groaned, facepalming. Wade swallowed. “H-how goes the convention?”
There was a beat of silence, and when Callie responded, a hint of suspicion edged her tone.
“Fine . . . is everything okay?”
“Okay? Sure is! Why wouldn’t things be okay? Psshh. I mean, I’m a grown man, right? I can watch over a kid for a few days while you’re out of town, right? Yeah, no problem! No problems at all! Don’t you worry!”
Sweat was starting to trickle down his back, and Knuckles peeked at him from behind his large mitt.
Shockingly, Callie wasn’t convinced. “Where’s Knuckles? Is he alright?”
Wade flicked his eyes to the echidna next to him. “Oh he’s fine! Never better! In fact, he’s right here, why don’t you talk to him?”
Knuckles’ eyes went wide and he shook his head, waving his hands back and forth in a “No, NO!” kinda way. Wade tapped the mute icon as he handed the phone to the teen.
“Just tell her everything’s fine!” Wade hissed in a loud whisper. “If she doesn’t hear from you she’ll think you’re lying dead in a ditch somewhere!”
“Have you lost your mind??” Knuckles responded in an equal tone. “I cannot talk to her, she will know something’s wrong!”
“Just keep it vague! We’re at your house watching a movie or something!”
Wade thrust the phone into Knuckles’ hand, and unmuted it before the echidna could respond. He gave the man a little snarl, before lifting it to his ear. “Hello.”
“Knux? Everything okay? Wade sounds pretty suspicious right now.”
Knuckles swallowed hard. “Everything is fine. We are . . .” He flicked his eyes up to Wade, who nodded and gave a thumbs up. “. . . watching a movie.”
“Oh? Whatcha watchin’?”
The echidna’s eyes went wide, and he looked around himself in a panic. Lying was not Knuckles’ strongest ability, and at this moment every movie he’d ever seen vanished from his mind. He looked at the booths surrounding them, advertising publishing companies and the various best-sellers they’d produced. His eyes landed on the nearest title, and he blurted it out in a too-loud voice.
“50 Shades of Gray!”
“WHAT?!”
Wade lunged for the phone, pulling it away so he could talk into the mic. “HA! He’s kidding, we’re not watching that, that’s ridiculous, I would never, ever show him anything like that, right Knux?” The echidna glared at him. “Seriously, Cal, we’re not watching that. I swear.”
Silence answered him, and the two stared at the seconds ticking away on the screen as the call continued.
“Hmm.” That simple hum just oozed suspicion. “What’s the weather like there?”
“It’s sunny!/raining!” Wade and Knuckles replied, their voices piling up. They both gasped, looking at each other as they each bit their lip.
More silence. “Hmm. 50 Shades of Gray, huh?”
Knuckles’ eyes went to the booth again, and a realization struck. He reached down and crushed Wade’s phone in his fist, bringing a cry from the deputy.
“HEY!”
“She is hunting us!” the echidna hissed, head on a swivel as he looked in all directions around them. “She knows we are here, and when she catches us, she will have our heads!”
“Oh,” Wade said, turning to scan their surroundings. “Oh, crap.”
“This is your fault!” Knuckles said, jabbing an angry fist toward him.
Wade gaped at him. “MY fault?? It was your idea to come here!”
“I am a child! You are the adult who is responsible for me! You should have denied my idea!”
“Oh, now you’re a ‘child’ who needs an adult and not the most dangerous warrior in the galaxy who needs no supervision??”
“It is a complicated duality, and I am still trying to work my way through it!”
“Hello, boys.”
They both gave a little shriek at the voice and jumped back, assuming defensive poses as their eyes went wide and hearts raced. Callie gave a little smirk, flicking her eyes back and forth between them.
“Who’s gonna explain?”
The two slowly relaxed, and exchanged a glance. They both briefly considered telling the truth, before throwing each other under the bus instead.
“IT WAS HIS IDEA!” they both yelled, pointing at the other. Upon realizing the blame had been flung straight back on their own head, they gasped, turning to each other and starting to argue.
Callie listened to them for a moment, the smirk changing to a smile as she rolled her eyes.
“Guys. GUYS!” They quieted and turned to her, identical looks of guilt on their faces. “If you wanted to come, you could have just asked.”
The shock they displayed was almost comical.
“You . . . you’re not mad?” Wade asked, doubt in his voice and face. “I mean, really? You’re not just acting all cool and calm because we’re in public and are going to hand us our butts when we’re alone?”
She shook her head. “Not mad. A little surprised you’d want to come all the way here for a publishing convention. They’re not exactly a whirlwind of excitement.”
“We were concerned,” Knuckles said as he stepped forward. “When you called that first night you were away, you sounded sad.”
Her smile softened. “I was just missing home. This is my first trip away since you came to me. The first trip I had someone to miss.” She looked at Wade. “And I kinda missed my Bear, too.”
Wade smiled. “Awww. No one’s ever missed me before.”
“It is our duty to protect you, and keep you safe,” Knuckles said, holding a fist to his chest. “We came to watch over you, and be here if you needed us.”
“Oh, my sweet ki’kone,” she said, going to a knee before him. She gave his muzzle a little caress, bringing a smile to his lips. “I would never turn down a chance to spend time with you.”
Behind him, Wade coughed into his fist. Loudly. Twice.
Callie cast him a raised eyebrow and little smirk. “Yes Wade, you too.”
The deputy smiled. “Heh, just making sure. So you’re really not mad?”
She shook her head, returning to her feet. “Nope. In fact, I’m glad you’re here. You can help keep me entertained. C’mon. Let’s go get something to eat.”
“Yes!” Knuckles cried, lifting his arms in the air. “I have missed our shared feasts.”
“It’s only been like two days, Knux.”
“A day spent without those you love can feel like a lifetime,” the teen said, moving to walk next to her. “I have spent enough days alone. Come, Me’na. Let us find a meal fit for our reunion.”
“Oh, he’s good,” Wade muttered as they headed for the door. “The echidna’s got smooth lines.”
“Right? Kid can make anyone swoon.”
“It is a gift.”
Callie and Wade gave a little snicker as the three of them walked out, intent on finding a place to fill their bellies, and enjoy their time together.
You are breathtaking (COLOR)
Here you have the ultimate version! Keanu Reeves ft Shadow the Hedgehog!
It´s been a hard week full of work (outside of drawing) and I almost had no time...but here its is, finally. (It took me less time than I expected...so I think I´m improving) I like how it turned out in the end and the way my coloring style is taking so I´m happy for now.  (I´ll definetly going to make prints of this for sure XD)
Happy Sunday!
“Hey kiddo, what’s up?”
Sonic looked down at his communicator. It had been buzzing just seconds before, informing the hedgehog that his little brother was trying to reach him.
“Hello,” came the soft reply.
“You okay?”
The kit hesitated before answering his brother. “Yeah, I-I’m fine.”
“O-okay,” Sonic said. Even over the phone, he could read Tails’ emotions and knew for a fact that the kid was not fine. “Was there a reason for your call?”
“Did you know…” Away from the phone, the kit coughed and whimpered. Sonic winced. What was up with him?
“Did I know what?”
“French Angelfish stay together until one d-dies…”
The hedgehog smiled to himself. He thought he could see where Tails was going with this. He leaned back in the chair he was sitting in.
“And… it’s unlikely to find one alone. Pairs of-of t-these fish work t-together to defend their territory against other A-Angelfish pairs…”
“That’s a lot like us.” Sonic chuckled. “We partner together to save the world from Eggman…”
“…And it’s hard to find one of us without finding the other,” the two finished together.
On the other side of the line, Tails smiled at the ceiling of his workshop. “Did y-you know t-that Eggm’n has badniks t-th’t shoot arrows n-now?”
“What’s he gonna name them, ArrowBots?” Sonic snickered.
That got a small chuckle out of Tails, which ended with a whimper. For a bit, the line went quiet.
“Tails,” Sonic said quietly, “Are you sure you’re alright?”
Dodging the question, Tails whispered “I l-l’ve you.”
“I love you too, Tails.” Sonic sighed, leaning forward in the chair. “But I need to know you’re okay. You were stuttering a lot, did you have another panic attack?”
Silence.
“You‘re a g-g-good b’other.”
“Thanks, buddy. Uh… is something going on?”
The blue blur heard shifting from the other side of the line. It stopped abruptly.
“N-no.”
“Okay then,” Sonic replied. He was confused, to say the least.
The line went silent again.
“If you don’t have anything else to say, I’m gonna hang up, lil’ bro.”
More quiet. Sonic could hear the AC in the background on the other line.
“I’ll see you tonight, keed,” the hedgehog whispered. Tapping his communicator, he hung up and leaned back into his chair, arms crossed against his chest.
Something was up.
And he was going to get to the bottom of it.
________
Tails was not picking up the phone.
It added some difficulty to Sonic’s dinner search. He wanted to know what the kid wanted to eat.
But at the same time, Tails was never a picky eater. Sonic knew he would eat anything he brought, even if it was absolutely disgusting.
And the hedgehog was pretty sure he had bought more than enough food to the point where he could share with Tails and still have leftovers.
But the brotherly part of him told his to get something the kid wanted.
Sonic pushed the Chinese takeout bags further down his arm. Tapping on his communicator, he tried to get ahold of his little brother yet again.
It rang once.
Twice.
Three times.
Four-
“Hello?”
Sonic sighed with relief. “Jeez, kid. What took you so long to pick-“
“You’ve officially reached my voicemail. I got you there, didn’t I Sonic?”
The hedgehog glared at his communicator in response to the kit’s smug voice coming from the speakers.
“Leave me a voicemail, would you?”
Beep.
“If you’re not gonna answer the phone, you’re just gonna get this takeout, buddy.”
Pausing for a moment, Sonic sighed. “You’ve been off today, Tails. I wanna talk about it when I get home, okay?”
Hanging up, the hedgehog glanced at the sky. “Come on buddy, talk to me,” he whispered.
________
“Hey buddy, I’m back!”
No response.
The workshop was eerily quiet. No tinkering, no food cooking in the kitchen…
Nothing.
And that’s when Sonic noticed the bloody pawprint on the wall. It looked dry now.
Something had happened.
The hedgehog sprinted through the different rooms in Tails’ workshop. Nothing in the kitchen, nothing in the kit’s bedroom, nothing in the-
Bathroom.
A thick stream of half-dried blood trailed out of the bathroom. A jagged knife laid on the ground. The bathtub was murky with bloody water.
Sonic felt his ears press to his head. He was afraid to touch anything.
Whatever happened, it wasn’t good.
He followed the red line out of the bathroom and into the main room, where he was greeted with a sight that he would never forget.
He didn’t hear the cry that exited his throat as his eyes fell on the corpse of his beloved friend.
The fox was laying on his side on the wooden floor, an oversized puddle of blood surrounding his small frame. The kit’s dusty grey eyeswere half closed, and his lips formed a small smile. The Miles Electric was on the floor, just above the kid’s head.
Sonic dropped to his knees, gently touching Tails’ face.
He didn’t mind the blood that smeared against his hands as he gently held the kid’s head in his arms.
Sonic stared into his vacant eyes.
They weren’t the bright blue he remembered.
Sonic gently put the fox down and slid the Miles Electric to himself. When he unlocked the device with his gloveprint, the first thing that he saw was the phone call screen.
There was a call to Vector from last week, and Tails had missed a call from Amy yesterday.
There was a more recent phone call.
The last thing that Tails had done was call Sonic.
The last thing he had done was talk to his brother.
He had compared them to fish who depended on each other and watched each other’s backs and loved each other.
Sonic’s Angelfish was gone.
And as he gently picked his kid’s cold body up and covered him with a sheet, the tears spilled over.
drabble prompt; can we have some big sibs being protective over the baby? (tails as the baby, obv)
word count-636
ao3 link
“Alright, let's get started.” Amy said, clasping her hands together. She was standing in front of the large consoles that controlled the wall of monitors Tails had built.
“What’s the point in doing this?” A soldier, a brown raccoon, asked with a deep frown. “With Sonic dead there's no hope in us winning.”
“Sonic isn't dead.” Tails mumbled, his gaze locked onto the map sat atop the table everyone was gathered around.
“Then where is he?” The soldier asked, rolling his eyes. “You gotta grow up and accept that Sonic's–”
“Leave him alone.” Knuckles turned to the soldier to glare at him.
“I'm just saying!” The raccoon raised his paws defensively. “He needs to–”
“You've said enough, Ranger.” Amy frowned at him before sighing. “We're going to find Sonic, but right now we have to focus on pushing Eggman back.”
“Good luck with that.” Another soldier, a light blue lion huffed. “The closest thing we have to Sonic can't go outside without having a panic attack.” She made a point to look towards the little fox, rolling her eyes when he didn't move to argue with her.
Silver frowned at her, “He's going through a lot. Give him a break.”
“We're all going through a lot, Silver.” The lion said, crossing her arms. “But at least we're pulling our weight.”
“Come on, Quinn.” A gray cat sighed, “That's not fair.”
“Who cares about being fair, Hazy?” Ranger asked, frowning. “He's dealt with Eggman longer than any of us! He watched Sonic die, the least he could do is help out in the fights!”
“Hey!” Amy shouted, glaring at the raccoon and lion. “Both of you, stop it.” She scolded.
“You know we're right, Commander.” Quinn grumbled. “He's practically useless right now.”
More arguments broke out after that. Some defending Tails, but most berating him.
Silver went to join the conversation, but stopped when he felt a head push itself into his neck.
Looking down to his right, he found Tails trying to hide himself against the gray hedgehog. He was trembling slightly, ears pressed against his head as his paws clung to his tails that were twirled around each other.
Silver frowned, “Knuckles–” He looked up, stopping himself when he realized the echidna was standing now. He was arguing with Quinn, baring his teeth at her.
“Amy?” He turned to the pink hedgehog next, but she was busy trying to get everyone to stop yelling.
“Guys!–” Silver tried to raise his voice, but everyone else only got louder.
He groaned and looked around the room as he hugged the fox, trying to find a way to get everyone's attention.
His eyes eventually landed on the light switch beside the door.
Using his telekinesis, he flipped the switch down. The room went dark, causing the arguments to end in gasps as people looked around to figure out what happened.
Once it was just quiet mumbling, Silver flicked the lights back on. “Guys.” He called, watching as everyone finally turned to look at him. “You're scaring him.”
Knuckles and Amy immediately looked down at Tails, the latter's ears wilting at the sight of her brother.
Ranger scoffed and went to say something, but the pink hedgehog quickly beat him to it, “Silver, Knuckles, please go take him to his room and try to calm him down.” She ordered, looking at the two.
Silver nodded and shifted the little fox so he could pick him up as he stood from his chair. Knuckles walked ahead, opening the door for the hedgehog.
Amy smiled at them before turning back to the other mobians, specifically Ranger and Quinn, “We're gonna have a talk.” She decided, her smile dropping into a glare.
Silver could feel a shiver go down his spine at the sight.
He's just glad her anger isn't directed at him.
