I have waited YEARS for this book to come to fruition. It is finally here, and I admit this is totally bookception because I am currently listening to the audiobook. Anyway, this book is @caleb_wilde ’s pride and joy, and I have been following him from the start of my journey in the deathcare industry. Because of Caleb, I was able to find my voice and speak out against the things happening in the industry such as discrimination and unethical conduct. Because of Caleb, AIDC exists. Some people will never be able to know what you did for them. But I am glad and hope Caleb knows how much this book means to me and how happy I am to see it published. I ask that you go to your local bookstore or Amazon and purchase this. Caleb is a force in the #deathpositive movement and his confessions need to be experienced.

It could’ve been worse. It could’ve come on the radio as your cot’s legs dropped out during the removal.
That awkward moment when “Let the Bodies Hit the Floor” comes on the radio after you’ve just done a removal…

Tonight I’m looking into advanced training options because it’s easier than looking at my resume and I’m really interested in the EoL doula idea and celebrant trainings.  There’s the one celebrant training company that’s really popular with funeral directors (because our associations hire them to do sessions for CE credits) but there’s another company that’s a LOT more expensive, but also seems really nice.

13 ways you can cheat death by using your ashes to become something awesome
What if there was a way to use your lifeless remains to orbit the Earth. Or become, say, a fireworks display. Or a paperweight.

Billy Bogiatzoglou aka Billelis, Illustrations.
Incredible illustration work mixed with 3D rendering by British artist Billy Bogiatzoglou, aka Billelis.  I’d really, really love to see these as real-life sculptures and maybe even own a few.

Updates
Not that I have any followers that aren’t my childhood friend and literally me, but I figured I’d post an update.   One of my last posts was about how impossible my boss was about paying me.  Well, I guess that was foreshadowing because she continued to not pay me for another month and a half.  This was the second time she’d done this, so I left.  I have a job in the field now, and I’m going to start hunting for a new apprenticeship next month, once my finances are straightened out a little more On direct deposit since March, my left eye.

My bosses are really impossible about paying me, so I haven’t been paid in over a month and a half, and there are made-up problems that are going to make getting a paycheck impossible for a minimum of a week (assuming my bosses actually try to work with me on this and not against me)
I have about $35 for the forseeable future.  How do they expect me to live like this?

Today
Today, after work, I went out with my friend who is also a mortuary apprentice.  We stopped in a thrift store because a lot of stars aligned to lead me to an impulse furniture purchase, and the owner asked us if we’re sisters.
It was nice.

Squirrel Duality
It’s strange how many schools seem to have warring factions of squirrels. Each campus has its own wildly unique situation regarding the squirrels, varying in alignment to mundane or uncanny, and all so distinct as to be impossible to mistake for each other.

I forget that this state is more than its major metropolitan area.  I forget that it’s a flyover state, too, just like all the others in the Midwest, in the heartland.  I forget that outside the commuting suburbs - and I’m at the furthest reaches of them - this state is rural, and subject to the depression and the poverty and the lonesome sense of social denial and abandonement that comes with.  I forget that because this is the edge, that there are people scrabbling on not enough of anything in an area made to reap and expect the affluence of the city while avoiding the challenges thereof.  Here, in the middle of a great landmass, on the shores of our inland sea, we’ve clustered into a tiny echo of the coastal elite.  I grew up scratching at and barely clinging on to the hem of that society, but I forget that I was, in fact, clinging on.
And that others weren’t.

I got headhunted.
Which is incredibly flattering to begin with, but even more exciting because the owner seems really great, and her business philosophy seems to mesh really well with mine.  Also, the funeral home has a pet chicken, from what I understand.
