After playing all the xenoblades I can say that Xenoblade 3 is my second favorite after Xenoblade 1.
I really liked the beginning of the game, the story explain the mysteries surrounding the population of Aionis in a non-hurried way, which is why the characters and their reactions are much more realistic, furthermore the initial setting is so mystical and military at the same time that it gave me the impression of a hybrid between FFVIII and FFX which are my two favorite jrpgs.
The characters in the party are excellent and all interesting, each one has a well-defined character and not overly caricature-like, the backstories are engaging and the love story is truly beautiful. like we haven't seen since the time of FFX.
The combat system is the best in the series (improved even more in the DLC), clean and fast, unfortunately I didn't appreciate the Class system, which despite seeming to offer many variables seemed very reductive for most of the game.
The landscapes are incredible as always, the music is at the level of Xenoblade2 but does not reach the level of those of Xenoblade1.
On the downside, I find that the story towards the final stage drags on a bit trivially, the story of the DLC is much more intriguing.
Despite this, the ending is truly emotional and very touching.
The enormous number of secondary quests is terrifying, even if they are the best of the entire saga, they are still too many.
Xenoblade 3 is a beautiful JRPG with a great party of characters and one of the best love stories in the genre.
Lanz and Sena are my favourite characters and Riku is the best man.

I have already spoken extensively in the description of the illustration of "Rise of the Third Power" how impressed I was by the talents of the Stegosoft team.
What I can add about Ara Fell is that I was initially skeptical when I saw a graphic style that was too close to the default one of RPG Maker 2003. I didn't expect a game in which the protagonist's thoughts and emotions were portayed with so much skill.
The battle system is solid and strategic with the first bosses, especially when the party is not full and you need to manage your resources. Unfortunately, as in ROTTP, the few skills of the characters immediately become repetitive and we find ourselves doing the same things in all the battles.
I appreciated the equipment crafting system which is a clever solution to the usual new stock of weapons and armor in the latest discovered city, and the skill improvement system which requires exploration and side quests.
The story revolves around elves and vampires, but although at first glance it may seem like the usual RPG maker game story, it is enriched by the development of the characters which are done really well.
Also in this case, as in ROTTP, the humor is excellent and right up my alley.
The ending is also satisfying, I loved this game, I recommend it to all lovers of 90s JRPGs.
Moving on to other things, I think I'll take a break from drawing, I can't say how long. Unfortunately, the time available to me is less and less and finishing my illustrations is increasingly difficult.
There's still a lot of fanart I'd like to draw so I hope to be back soon.

Rise of the Third Power Heroes
Tumblr media
Last year I played Persona 5 for the first time, a nice JRPG without a doubt, but not only did I not find the best JRPG of all time that everyone was praising, but over the course of the year I played two JRPGs that I liked much more, both from Stegosoft; Ara Fell and Rise of the Third Power.
If for many the RpgMaker style aesthetic could be a deterrent, in my case it was the reason why I decided to buy these two titles on the Limited Run website, because they reminded me so much of the good old days when my brother and I started projects on projects with: rpgmaker 2000, 2003, XP and VX.
I certainly didn't expect to find such high-level writing in these games, although the premises are simple, the story takes off immediately thanks to the engaging, well-written dialogues, which manage to define three-dimensional characters and with motivations that are for once true and not anime tropes.
Even the love stories and the strongest feelings are developed very very well, and both Lita in Ara Fell and Rowan in ROFTP emerge as two truly depht characters who enter my personal ranking of the best jrpg protagonists.
If in other games I played last year like Persona 5, Bug Fables or Cosmic Star Heroine, the protagonists take decisions very lightly and come out with a "Yes! Let's do it!", the protagonists of Stegosoft games are always thoughtful and ready to question every single thing.
Now I will continue to talk about ROFTP, maybe I will talk more about Ara Fell in the future when I dedicate a drawing to it (which I intend to do).
The battle system is really well animated and very fun, until the party is full it is also challenging.
However, the abilities of the various characters are not very varied, we soon end up always using the same strategy, even if the possibility of changing the formation of the active group at the start of each battle (unless the monsters have the initiative) can guarantee variety as each of the eight characters has a completely different class and playing style.
The music, although coming from a stock music site, has been excellently selected and is of high quality.
In addition to the romantic emotions, the humor is also handled really well, rarely has a jrpg made me laugh so many times.
Ultimately Rise is my favorite game of 2023 and I recommend all jrpg fans to play both it and Ara Fell.
Congratulations to Stegosoft for these two gems.

This jrpg was my favourite game played in 2023, a truly hidden gem.
The writing is so immersive and engaging and Rowan is one the best jrpg protagonist I've ever see. I enjoyed a lot more both Ara Fell and Rise of the Third Power than Persona 5. Kudos to StegosoftGames team, keep going on making beautiful jrpgs.

Lately I've dedicated myself to rediscovering indie RPGs and I've found one gem after another, despite jumping into these titles blindly.
Cosmic Star Heroine is a very interesting game, I hadn't played its developers' previous games, partly because I can't stand popculture humor or anything that revolves around Cthulhu.
Cosmic Star Heroine has many strong points and in my opinion only one flaw, let's start from the good things: the graphics, the sprites, the animations and the pixel-art are impeccable, beautiful; the game's scenarios are alive and vibrant and never repetitive, from a graphic point of view it is a small masterpiece.
The music and sound effects are excellent and effective, the character design is interesting, all the characters have a distinctive style.
The gameplay is truly innovative and intelligent, the battle is a resource management, both the skills and the objects (even the basic attack) are for single use and must be recharged through a specific action, this makes the battles very tactical because each action must be used at the right time; especially the healing ones.
I really appreciated (which I don't understand why many criticize) that the enemies in the game don't respawn, this feature makes the game more realistic and the fights more controlled and not frustrating.
Moving on to the flaw of the game, everything goes too fast, both the story and the development of the characters, the whole plot seems like a marathon that goes from one action or decisive sequence to another.
At some points, Alyssa, the protagonist, makes critical decisions and the matter is resolved in a few seconds with simplicity and without depth.
In general, all the characters are fascinating right from their presentation but they don't go beyond this because the most that the story (or the secondary quests) give us are jokes.
From a narrative point of view there are at least two very critical moments which are resolved in a very banal way and in my opinion the story deserved better.
The ending is the only moment of the game where tension has its rightful space.
In any case, the game is a jewel from the point of view of art and gameplay and despite the flatness of the plot I still remained fond of the characters (Psybe is awesome) and I appreciate the work done on the lore of the game.
Just to say, I have already pre-ordered the developers' new game, but later I will draw the characters of Ara Fell, another indie jrpg which I found to be a masterpiece from the point of view of narration and characters building.

When I bought the Silver Case collection a couple of years ago, I posted the photo on Instagram and a guy commented saying that he had just finished it and that the game was very strange but once finished it was something great that made you "unfuckable"; after finishing it last week I can confirm.
The only Suda51 games I had played before were the 4 of the No More Heroes series, which I personally adored, Suda and I have a very similar sense of humor and from what I see from his games we like the same things (Wrestling, Twin Peaks, Horror movies...) and also in Silver Case I found many points in common, especially with Tokio as I too am a turtles and carnivorous plants lover.
Suda51 and the guys at Grasshopper are very good at creating interesting characters, despite the game's outdated gameplay (as regards the non visual-novel sections) the story is never boring and the mystery around the Silver Case and Kamui is reminiscent of the best David Lynch.
I also love when an author creates an universe in which he connects his works and Suda does it in a brilliant and never banal or derivative way.
Furthermore, the music, the interface effects that change from chapter to chapter and the illustrator that changes depending on the protagonist are all fantastic details that create an incredible atmosphere for a game where 90% are dialogues.
I highly recommend these two games, despite some oddities in the gameplay choices, the story and characters are incredible and it's impossible not to fall in love with characters like Kusabi or Tokio. One day I will also play "Flower, Sun, and Rain" to see the part of the story that I miss, hoping for a remaster.

I've wanted to draw this illustration for a long time, I've been waiting for the right inspiration.
I think that Tomomi Kobayashi's illustrations for the various SaGa games are wonderful, and in those of Saga Frontier my favorite is the one with the IRPO agents at the bar, which is why I wanted to draw my interpretation of the group.
When I played Saga Frontier I used all the members of the IRPO (Cotton in every gameplay) except Rabbit, I wasn't a big fan of the Robot gameplay.
Fuse is really fun as a character and reminds me a lot of Lupin III and Ryo Saeba.
