I hate that people use the term "flying rats" as a way to describe pigeons and make them seem stupid, disease ridden, and a pest we must exterminate at all costs. While I do use the term "flying rats" to describe them, I don't mean it as an insult, they are very similar to each other in some ways. Here are some I could think of,

Both are quite intelligent animals despite their size

Both are very social animals

Both clean themselves

Both groom those they trust and care for

Both are very skittish, especially around strangers

Both can be very affectionate to others they trust and feel safe around

Both have adapted to live along humans

Both can quickly adapt to new situations

Both are mistreated by people

Both usually live in unhygienic conditions, and due to this carry unwanted germs and diseases, due to the conditions of their environment. This is used as an excuse for them being mistreated, even though many of these diseases will never be transferred to a person unless they are actively snorting kilos contaminated shit and dust, or have a compromised immune system. YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO GET SICK FROM A FERAL CAT OR DOG THAN YOU ARE TO GET SICK FROM PIGEONS OR RATS BECAUSE MANY PIGEONS AND RATS TEND TO AVOID PEOPLE THEY DON'T TRUST WHICH JUST HAPPENS TO BE LIKE 99% OF THE POPULATION AND WE REGULARLY KILL THEM FOR THE CRIME OF EXSISTING. FERAL CATS AND DOGS CARRY DISEASES AND OTHER UNWANTED SHIT THAT CAN BE DEADLY TO PEOPLE BUT THAT'S DIFFERENT? LIKE PREGNANT PEOPLE ARE ADVISED AGAINST CLEANING CAT LITTER FOR A REASON, WE ARE TOLD TO WASH OUR HANDS AFTER TOUCHING ANIMALS FOR A REASON. IF WE OPENLY AND ACTIVELY TREATED ALL DOGS AND CATS THE WAY WE TREAT PIGEONS AND RATS, FOR THE CRIME OF EXISTING NEAR US DESPITE CONSTANTLY BEING TREATED WORSE THAN LITERAL SHIT, PEOPLE WOULD LOSE THEIR SHIT AND CALL IT ANIMAL ABUSE AND GO ON ABOUT HOW IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT WE PUT THEM IN THOSE SITUATIONS AND HOW IT WOULD JUST BE BETTER FOR THEM IF THEY WERE PUT IN LOVING AND SAFE HOMES, BUT FOR SOME REASON PIGEONS AND RATS ARE NOT DESERVING OF THIS SAME SYMPATHY EVEN THOUGH WE ARE 100% AT FAULT FOR WHAT THEY GO THROUGH. YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO GET SICK FROM ANOTHER HUMAN BEING THAN YOU ARE FROM A PIGEON OR RAT, MOST PEOPLE HAVE WORSE HYGEINE STANDARDS THAN PIGEONS AND RATS.

Both are cute and I love them

Both are scavengers, and have adapted well to large cities

You can gain the trust of both with food

Hi, I just saw your art of the snake and the pigeon with aromantic flags, and they look amazing! I thought that a pigeon done in the colours of the queerplatonic and/or oriented aroace flag would be adorable. Did you know that pigeons mate for life and often show affection to their partner by cuddling with each other and giving them light pecks around the neck and head? They also are apparently great parents, with both males and females taking care of the young, this load is shared almost equally between the sexes. Both parents build nests, sit on eggs, and lactate (well “pseudo-lactation” technically) to feed chicks. I just thought the idea of two pigeons in a qpr would be really cute.
