Why tho?
There is truly only one thing that I don’t get in the whole movie. Why Klaus insists that it should be Jesper to deliver the toys?
Like I suppose it’s easier for Jesper to sneak inside the houses and if they try to do it openly the parents would refuse. But in some ways it is easier for Klaus. Like that first house where he did all the fence bending, dog scaring heavy lifting. I guess it has more to do with Klaus trying to avoid responsibility and admit that he is doing all that and is invested and it’s easier to frame it in his own mind as indulging this postboy shenanigans for the benefit of the children. Hm.

I’m sure I’m probably not the first one to think about it but... Alva and Mogens, anybody? Can you imagine a better match? The passion?
The thought occurred to me and now I can’t think about anything else.
Alva being all cute and idealistic at first on his boat when he was delivering her to Smeerensburg the first time. A stupid child about to be eaten alive. And how she faced the challenge and didn’t ran away like the postmen did, nor got sucked into the feud like any other non-clan people living on the island. No, she pushed back, became a feral beast of a woman determined not to just get away but to thrive when she did.
I mean she could just leave. Penniless maybe but still she had more than enough to start from the bottom at any other safe and much more pleasant place. My guess is that trade is kind of hard on the island. Clan people would want to swindle the other side, prices probably fluctuate a lot depending who is selling and who is buying. Alva is not scrapping the bottom of the barrel, she is getting RICH. Because as a neutral party she can get products from all of them and sell to all of them. She is determined to come back to the mainland not defeated but victorious.
Mogens is impressed. They become almost friends, once in a while he’ll come along and bring some brandy and they will sit for some time mocking the crazy shenanigans of the locals. And they are both smart people, attractive in their ragged ways and also only people in this mad place not tangled in the stupid feud. Things are bound to happen. Attraction is a sure to come along.
And funny as it is it’s Mogens who doesn’t let it to proceed. He knows how Alva wants to leave, doesn’t want to weight her down. And also his heart can’t really take more damage than he had over his life if he let himself get into that and then be left behind. So he will joke and flirt and be sarcastic but keep all possible feeling he might develop under tight control, one of the reasons he doesn’t come to visit her all that often. And Alva might try to go further but after being softly rebuked her pride won’t let her try again. And they were hanging in this suspended more than acquaintances less than something else dance until Jesper came around and change everything for Alva with her school and calling and for Mogens showing him he could still care and that’s ok.
So while Jesper and Klaus are trying to figure their stuff out, these two also might just give it a chance.

I don’t have time to draw rn, getting ready for a family trip and all but I’ve made a quick paintover of this shot to look at Jesper in slightly more realistic way (maybe I’ll push it more later). And you know what, I like it.

Klausper thoughts
My take on klausper in canon. Good GOD I will make gifs of all their interactions because the body language is NOT SUBTLE. But for now just this.
At first Klaus found Jesper weird and Jesper found him terrifying.
The actual attraction started later somewhere around the “flying reindeers” moment when Klaus laughed. It actually got to Klaus much earlier, Jesper was too deep in his head about the letters to think about anything else.
It caught up with him a bit later when he was forced to think about his actions and how he saw Klaus (as a really good and kind man). And when they worked together. Still not quite love but a sure attraction. It’s also the first time Jesper thought that he doesn’t really deserve him.
Klaus was already falling hard that morning they got a present for Margu and Jesper smiled at her.
Afterward was actually my favorite scene in the movie where Jesper talks about their experience and Klaus looks at him absolutely smitten. And talks about Lydia the most important part of his past and previous relationship finishing it with how he was lost until Jesper showed up.
Jesper got the first real twinge at his heart when he saw their names on the sledge.
Klaus got so angry at him not because Jesper lied to him or anything (because he didn’t much) but because he was in love and now he wasn’t sure if anything was real at all and if his feeling weren’t just used. He got over it as soon as he figured that Jesper was exactly the man he thought him to be.
it left them in a tricky place however, with Klaus being sure of his feelings and Jesper is only just starting to figure that he might have some.
Despite what fandom seems to think, Jesper had some experience with relationships. It’s just that they were mostly casual and never actually about love or anything that deep.
He also had to figure out early on who of his quite numerous suitors were after him and who after his dad’s money and connections.
Klaus on the other hand had no relationships in decades. So. Communication is kind of hard.
They would need all the help Alva and Lydia’s ghost can provide.

OH I want that fic! But also! The hand that he was grabbing the snow with? I expected it to be badly damaged by the icy edges of the snow. That was the only time my suspension of disbelief wavered a bit. I was like, nothing really?
But if he did fall. Good GOD. Klaus would just shut down.
What If Jesper survived but was wounded? And his dad came back and took him to the mainland to recover. And Klaus being numb to the world missed the fact that he survived? And then Jesper comes bak? Or! Alva finally says something like “I’ve heard he is walking again” and Klaus is shooketh. Because all this time she came along to support him but they didn’t actually talked about Jesper, bc she thought he feels guilty and he though she is also grieving. And it’s Klaus who comes to the mainland to see him.
The possibilities are endless. ◉_◉
Imagine if Jesper had fallen while trying to save the presents.
Imagine Klaus's face.

Klaus headcanons!
A little bit about the big guy!
Klaus had super nice parents but they both died when he was pretty young. His dad was a carpenter and taught him a lot.
Klaus always was pretty big and hardworking so he managed to live by himself.
He soon became pretty famous for his skills, especially in that of house building.
He is not from Smeerensburg but from the mainland town not too far away.
He came to Smeerensburg on commission to built a house for the Ellingboes.
Where he met Lydia who was an orphan from a Krum family.
They bonded over mutual desire to have a big nice family and promptly fell in love.
Despite Klaus being an outsider they both got a lot of shit from both families so they moved away from all of it to the forest.
Klaus is pretty stubborn and prone to fixate on both good or bad things.
He is not very good at reading social situations and can easily misunderstand things.
He has a lot of patience but if it’s gone it’s GONE.
That said he never ever used his physical strength to harm anyone and never would, he is too conscious of how big he is.
Klaus doesn’t think much of his own skills, he knows he is good but considers it to be the result of many years of work.
He didn’t really notice how many years has passed in his mourning he is generally not very good at grasping time.
Klaus really thrives while taking care of someone and providing for them. He missed making people happy. Especially children.

I want some Mogens headcannons.
He is a tough one to figure out! Sorry I got carried away??
- Mogens sailed his whole life. - He started in a small fishing boat as a teen but actually served on a military ship for quite a while. - He went there to find purpose but really didn’t like it. Mostly because of the rules and required hierarchy. And that he was usually much smarter than the majority of his commanders. - Didn’t really like the war either, it all seemed very pointless to him, the squabbles of the rich and powerful that small people where supposed to die for. - Disillusioned left as soon as he could after earning enough to buy his own boat. - Lost all his savings and the boat after falling in love with the wrong woman. - He was let down and betrayed by people who got close a few more times leaving him very jaded and disappointed about relationships and humanity in general. - Served on a big trade (after some consideration and posts in here it was totally a) whaler ship for quite some time as a cook.- Was in fact wielding more power than a captain. - Did actually scheme to change a captain a few times, all of them successful.- Could become a captain himself but didn’t see the reason to do so, setting in his apathetic pleasure searching ways instead. - He can cook extremely well as the result tho.- The company HQ in the capital got bankrupt eventually because yet another stupid rich guy who thought he knew what he was doing. - Mogens contemplated joining another one or even getting his own ship but eh, to much of a hustle.- He actually could settle somewhere nicer but chose the Smeerensburg because of their feud, he found it mildly entertaining. - Mogens is never bored, he lives in his head and there are plenty of memories or contemplations to keep him occupied. - And when he does emerge from daydreams people around him never fail to entertain him by perpetually sinking lower and lower. - At the start of the movie he is long set in his cynical views. - Initially he sees Jesper as a dumb rich boy and his misery as a source of entertainment. - He is reluctantly impressed by Jesper’s persistency, then ingenuity (bordering on cunningness, something he can respect) and finally selflessness. - Mogens is moved more than he thought he could be moved so he manipulates Jesper’s dad into talking with him with an optimal for Jesper result. - He continues living in Smeerensburg and witnessing the changes, amused by the way life can swerve, softening but not by much.

Jesper headcanons
I’m reviving this dead blog to talk about Klaus! Among other things.
I don’t see enough meta going around. Where is it??? Where is the whole deep analysis of the characters? Also not nearly enough fanfiction! I guess if I want it I have to do it myself.
Ok, I’m not sure this count as headcanons but I want to sort things out in my head in how I see the characters.
Jesper is smart and resourceful and because of it he is prone to boredom.
Obviously he had no mother and a very neglectful father so no wonder that he lacks empathy. Generally nice manners tho.
I would argue that he has surprisingly little ego.
Despite the Cuzco comparisons Jesper never actually did a single bad thing to someone else to pursue his own goals. Never even lied, at most lied by omission. In fact his only goal is to get back home and to just be there.
He had to understand early on that he would never reach his father’s level of accomplishments so he just gave up without trying and wasting energy for nothing.
Despite being as priviledged as they get he doesn’t really invoke “do you know who my father is?”
He didn’t have any friends while growing up but surely had a lot of acquaintances at galas and parties, ready to have fun if he is the one paying.
He does have self-destructing tendencies if left to his own devices for long. In his twenties and yet we get an impression that he is a habitual sherry drinker and hookah smoker and probably unhealthy eater.
Jesper also compartmentalizes. A lot. That’s the way he dealt with his childhood and came up mostly non-traumatized and with relatively sunny disposition. He just takes parts of himself or the world that he doesn’t like and ignores them until they stop existing or come and bite him in the ass.
Enough for now but I wanna make Klaus too!

Do you think Ep. Ignis alternative ending makes sense?
Well. It's a very fanfiction type of ending. Which I actually like but it doesn't necessary mean that it's logical. That said, nothing in FFXV canon is very logical or makes a lot of sense to me, so there is that. All in all I like that we have it. =)

but does really mess the timeline? what is true is that dlc, except gladio's (bless the gameplay), retcons a lot of stuff... and then there is comrades: "nyx was the only glaive that could warp freely" yeah well, screw what its stablished...
Yeah all that retconing thing is exactly why I got so done with FFXV. I like some of the new stuff. Episode Ignis gave me life! But it’s not canon. It’s just not. It is a great AU and the ending that we deserved but didn’t get. In my mind there is always a clear division about canon and non-canon stuffs.
Like I don’t like and am not remotely interested in canon Harry Potter past book four-five. But I LOVE all the AUs people put out there.
So a question like “how do you like that character/pairing” I have to address from this double perspective. My mind is a mess! xD

looks like nyx was oficially 32, thoughts?
Eh, they fucked up all the timelines so much I stopped caring by the point it was announced. This lore has more holes in it than swiss cheese. I’m still going to watch episode Ardyn in whatever form they release it but I’m sure it’s going to generate more questions than answers again.
All in all I like 32 yo Nyx, it suits him! But in my heart he is a bit younger. xD

uhm.... thoughts about n*ctluna and l*unyx?
Hey! sorry for the late response, with all the tumblrpocalypse going on ugh.
I like and dislike both? Haha.
NoctLuna is a rather sweet pairing. It’s just that I don’t fully buy it. I mean they’ve met for like two times and I really don’t like that Luna’s whole life is arranged around Noctis and his destiny. That’s really iffy to me. I think they have the potential though. If they got to spend time together and get to know each other for real. Because as much as I like the dog-messenger letters, I wish they used smartphones instead. I’ve seen that book and there isn’t enough text in there for true epistolary romance. Barely short notes. I don’t dig “meant for each other” spiel, I want them to be together because they like the other person for who they are. So just a bit of time (maybe they somehow got it while Noct was in the crystal?) would really make it work.
LunNyx is nice too. I think Luna deserves a partner who can keep up with her, while Noct is sometimes comes off a bit childish. I don’t personally ship it because I like Nyx with Luna as a friendship much more. But I see what other people get from it.
I love me some CroweLuna! xD But otherwise yeah, let it stay NoctLuna but a bit more believability.

Grindelwald doesn't work as a compelling villain.
I'm not even sure they tried but we have like whole bunch of wizards joining him, including someone from the main cast?
I thought the point of Grindelwald is that he kind of... has a point. Right after the World War the wizards might feel like they had a wake up call. Wait a second? Muggles can fly now? And have tanks and machine guns and poison gas? Boy we have a problem!
And there comes Grindelwald, charming and compelling, with sound arguments that make even audience question themselves if he is not kinda right. Like Magneto! But alas. We got Johny Depp with weird-ass lenses. And he does good enough job in it. It's just there is no material to work with because Rowling for the death of her can't do a politically nuanced story.
It was a movie about him, he is in the tittle but we got no backstory whatsoever, except that one piece with Dumbledore that relies on your knowledge of franchise to get. What are his motivations?
Maybe he was so much more superior among his peers that in search of knowledge he went to really dark places, read really dark books that corrupted him. Durmstrang is notorious for cultivating Dark arts but they expelled him for going too far. What kind of family was he from to become that? Abusive? Or nourishing ambition in the worst way possible? Maybe the last drop was him getting to know a sister of his friend being grossly violated by muggles? Was he feeling guilt that she died but couldn't accept being a reason of it and mentally pushed it to her condition. Maybe he felt that muggles have robbed him the only real connection he got with Dumbledore. Maybe not. But to understand and feel for a character we need to know something about his motivation.
And there were moments when Grindelwald might have looked like a three dimensional character not a cardboard cutout in the movie.
Like that one time he and his clique has killed a family. Let's assume that they absolutely needed to kill those people to stay at their house. Even though they really didn't. They could have easily just wiped their memories and throw them out. But maybe they were some special people that must die for whatever reason.
After the murder we find out that there was a child. And Grindelwald comes in, crouches in front of the little boy and looks him for a moment. Then he leaves and they kill the child.
What an absolutely unnecessary scene! The very point of this little interlude is to show how evil and cruel they are. But instead of being low key terrifying how they just brought in those coffins to the absolutely random house and clinically murdered people in it just because they needed a base, it comes of a bit mustache-twirling we are evil for the sake of evilness.
You know what would have been better? One of the lackeys coming up with their wand pointed at the child and Grindelwald stoping them. Picking up the crying child and soothing it. And then, still smiling at the no longer crying child he says the line about the slaves. There is always need in those. Muggles aren't bad, they are inferior and must be controlled. And he tells to give the child to the orphanage or something. Because "we are not savages, are we?".
The whole point of him was to be different from Voldemort. The point of these movies was to be for more adult audience, to be more nuanced and controversial. But we got another generic evil lord in a convoluted mess of the story and that's a shame.
