In light of the situation of hand, as a person who had ranted about this whole ‘shipping business’ in the past, I felt compelled to write this despite my newborn son being a handful. A friend had told me that the Official Ages has been revealed and I had been initially glad that this petty and pointless battle over relationships can be over, but apparently some of the aftermath still subsides. I decide to address everyone on the situation at hand.
First of all, to the (hopefully) former advocates against these certain relationships, it is alright to feel ashamed and frankly, you should be ashamed if you had been rude. If you hadn’t, we all believe wrong things and mistakes. As long as you realize that you had made these mistakes and admit them, you’re on the road to moving on from this situation. If there are any people who are mocking, being rude, making horrible threats, I advise you not to listen to them.
On the other hand, former ‘anti’ advocates, you must understand why this happened. I have seen horrible things posted by some and now in presence of now the official ages of Voltron, which now disproves much of what was said, supporters of relationships who had been accused, ridiculed, threatened, etc are rejoicing that something that they’ve supported had been alright all along. While I can’t say I approve of some of the mocking and scornful celebration, their actions are not entirely unfounded. They’re just throwing up turmoils of months of being told that they’re these horrible criminals, boycotting some of their donations to charity, calling the show creators pedophile apologists, etc. Keep this in mind, but don’t take their comments to heart. You made mistakes, we all do, I certainly do, move on and put this past behind you.
Second of all, to the supporters of the relationships, I am happy to see that you lot are finally free to support them; however, I implore you not to party too hard. I understand how tempting it must be to turn back to those who had mocked you before and laugh in their face, but a lot of them finally understood what they had done wrong and it’s difficult to accept they are wrong. It’s hard enough for them to realize something that they had been advocating had all been meaningless and that they can’t erase the horrible actions that some of them had done. I say, forgive them and forget the past actions. Continue to support your ships, I say, but don’t look back to the dark times. Just be happy now that you can do what you want.
This last bit may a bit of me getting angry that this still exists, but the few remaining advocates who claim that the specific relationship between Shiro and Keith is ‘unhealthy’ due to age gap, a six to seven year age gap (taking into consideration that Keith’s birthday is in October and if the guidebook is in canon in timeline), is not that uncommon. Thinking that relationships are only acceptable within a 1-4 (or certain) year age gap is absolutely ridiculous. It might be strange to have a large age gap right now, but my own parents have an eight year age gap with each other; the iffiness dissolves with age. I don’t see any problem. As for the ‘power imbalance’ (whatever that may mean) issue, in that case all the Keith-related relationships are considered also a power imbalance in light of Season 3, now that Keith is now the leader and the main decision-maker. That idea is ridiculous, Keith is definitely mature enough to take care of himself, having been an orphan and living in that abandoned shack by himself. He’s not a helpless baby who doesn’t know any better, don’t treat him like one (as a new mother, I know helpless babies when I see one). Other than that, Keith’s age in regards to the other Paladins than Shiro aren’t far off and should be fine.
I’m glad that this can finally be settled. Mother Loco can finally close this book and focus on raising her baby boy. Also I must brag, that I had been quite accurate at my guesswork of Keith/Lance/Hunk’s ages earlier this year using the Podcast information. Not completely accurate, but fairly close.

Do the world a favor, go thank @yliseryn for this marvelous art and check out their commission details here. I’m so incredibly pleased with how this commission turned out; I honestly can’t stop looking at it. It’s so warm and gentle and tender. Shiro and Allura deserve this. :’) Thank you again yliseryn for making my wishes come true!

Just curious, but where pray tell was this information afore mentioned? I have not seen any news or legitimate sources of this anywhere at all.
In fact, if my own sources are right, the donations are going pretty well and is proceeding as planned.
Please stop saying that the charity is still accepting money from that sh@l@din artist. People are REALLY spending money on their art and expecting it to go to charity when the Children’s Aid fund has already decided not to accept the money from them.

Feeling a bit like ranting today so I will.
Some people are still skeptical on why the Podcast by @LetsVoltron is suddenly ‘more correct’ than the Age Video and why it dislodges the idea that Keith/Lance/Hunk is 17.
Well, let Mother Loco explain to you.
To start things off, let’s start with the blatant obvious, yes, both videos had Tim Hedrick’s voice in it. Yes, he is the Head Writer of Voltron: Legendary Defenders. Now with that out of the way...
Now let’s look at some more obvious details. Let’s categorize it VS List format, shall we?
Age Video:
Age Video was taken by a fellow fan of Voltron. They currently have no ties to the production of VLD and does not hold any influence whatsoever.
Video was taken by a fan on her phone while in line during a signing at ComicCon.
The video by said fan was posted on their personal accounts (on both twitter and tumblr).
In the video, Tim Hedrick (along with Lauren Montogermy and Joaquim Dos Santos) merely responded ‘Yes’ to the said fan’s questions of ‘adult’ and ‘Late Teens’.
Alleged confirmed Official Information is Pidge at 14, Shiro at 25, and Keith/Lance/Hunk at ‘Late Teens’. Tim Hedrick claims that these are a ‘safety zone’.
LetsVoltron Podcast:
The Podcast was done by @LetsVoltron, the Official Voltron Podcast. They even have their own website and is catered to delivering ‘exclusive news on Voltron episodes, merchandise, Events, Interviews, and more’ (as quoted by the Official Website).
The podcast was recorded and posted on September 19th, 2016 on Let’s Voltron’s Official Website.
Podcast simply says that the Garrison is a futuristic, University/College/Military/NASA-like institution that also trains upcoming astronauts.
Podcast also says other interesting bits of information on the show.
Looking at the lists above, would you have any reason to doubt the authenticity of Let’s Voltron, would we?
Additionally, Tim Hedrick was given time before the podcast to answer the questions that were asked by the fans while in the signing, he was not. He probably had no clue that this fan was going to ask such a detailed question during a signing. In the other case, during the podcast, it’s likely he had a notepad with the questions and what he could answer them with, so he could choose whether or not to reveal any spoilers.
Now on to the dislodging part: Yes, the podcast never explicitly said anything about the exact age of the Paladins, but it does confirm one detail: that the Garrison is College/University/Military/NASA hybrid and they train upcoming astronauts.
What does this mean?
Well of course, if you say that the world of VLD’s laws of pedophilia works similarly as to our real world (like many of you claim), then it would mean that the paladins would be around the college/military age group, since that’s how it works in our current Universe.
If you were to continue your education under normal circumstances (granted that you didn’t have any situations where you had to skip or be placed back for any reason or not studying a major that requires 4+ year program), then you would enter college at age 18 and complete college at around age 22. The US Military requires you to be at least 17+ to join. However, later ages (when you must drop out) may differ from which faction you decide to join (Ex. Coast Guard, Air Force, Navy, etc). NASA does not have an age requirement, but Astronaut Candidates (reminder that Candidates does not mean that they are 100% chosen to go to space, but they just are those whoa re able) are averagely people from ages 26-46.
Looking at the this information, the Garrison would likely have ages 17+, taken into consideration there not be any special circumstances, such as breaking-in and entering with a made-up identity.
Some of you might be like ‘AHA! Seventeen plus! That means Keith/Lance/Hunk is 17!’, but I regret to inform you that it is unlikely the case at this current period in time of the show (which would be the end of Season 1).
Most people graduate High School at age 17-18. Those who graduate at age seventeen are a little younger in the spectrum of students (born in the late summer to winter). This also works in tangent with the Military since some High School Graduates would prefer going to the military than college after graduating, to each their own reason. Most will become 18 by the time they apply/start for college or the military.
In addition, while they might have joined the Garrison at age 17, a year already had passed when Shiro was taken prisoner by the Galra. So even if they joined at age 17, they would be at least 18 when the story starts. I would say 19 years old at best, since that would make most sense to the timeline (enough for Keith to make a name for himself as the best pilot of his generation), but I digress.
This new tidbit of information, completely abolishes the idea pedophilia discourse, with the exception of Pidge, who is a very special case.

Oh my lord, you’re right! We’d just end up speculating what that the writers really meant. That is not vague at all! Please give me the glasses you were using so I could see the exact numbers that you are seeing.
I see, you want to go down the scientific route instead of the legal one. Let me ask you then, which ‘fully mature and developed’ are you referring to?
Your brain stops developing and becomes mature at age roughly (average) age 25.  It’s even stated in this article that 18+ people are given the ability to make adult decisions (and drink at age 21) even before their brain fully matures, which often debated among individuals whether or not this is an okay decision.
Teenagers (bodily) mature from puberty (also when they stop growing taller) roughly at age 16+ (for girls) and 18+ (for boys), but it varies from person to person. If you’re a late bloomer (and a male), puberty can even carry on until you’re 25 years old.
Your bones stop growing at an indefinite age, but it’s most accepted ages averages is 20 - 30 for both men and women.
These are rough estimates, mind you. I even may have forgotten a few other fully developed and mature, like when you stop aging. Science is never a hundred percent accurate after all. Now if you could just pick out which ‘fully mature and developed adult’ age from these...Of course, if you don’t want to attach any of the various ages of either the legal side or the scientific side I’ve provided for you, then I don’t know what to tell you.
The point is, ‘not adult’ and ‘adult’ are not very clear terms. We have no idea what the writers could have meant when they nodded ‘yeah’ to the fan who was saying ‘not adult’ and ‘adult’. They don’t even know themselves the exact age, let alone the exact age group category.
They don’t have an exact age, everyone’s ages is still up to individual interpretation, which varies person to person, since there is no official confirmation.
If you want to argue with me, please bring me evidence official confirmation, not from a fan’s video recorded on a phone. Perhaps from Voltron’s Official Website? Not that there’s anything about the ages there.
this is a PSA to sh*it* shippers that the word “student” does not imply any age in itself, and to continuously twist vague statements to fit your narrative and prioritize those vague statements over explicit confirmation from staff (read: 25, adult) is disgusting.

Hey, sweet pea, why don’t you put your money where your mouth is?
The word ‘late teen’ and ‘not adult’ is a vague term in itself.
Late teens could mean different ages depending on where you live and other factors. Currently, most people are using the numbers ‘17-19′, which is understandable. However, “Late Teens” is not an exact number. According to PsychologyToday, Late-Adolescence (a fancy term for ‘Late Teens’) is 15-18 while Wayne State University Physician Group says it’s 18-20. All the while Unicef claims it is 15-19 and Hunter College says 18-21. I’m sure there are many other interpretations, but that’s just a few I could find.
The word ‘not adult’ could mean before 18 (where you are legally an adult) or before 21 (when you’re legally allowed to drink alcohol). If we’re looking from US standpoint, then it varies from state to state. If we’re looking from a universal standpoint, it can be as early as 13 (in some African Culture and in Jewish tradition; this can be read on Wikipedia) or late as 20 (in Japan and Indonesia) . If you truly want to get complicated, we can take into consideration the many interpretations of ‘late teens’ and take numbers after that to be ‘adult’.
Now which version do you think is the ‘Late Teens’ and ‘Not Adult’ category that the writers were referring to?
As I have ranted previously, the writers never had any ages set in stone; otherwise they would have said so from the beginning.
Please, double check before your speak; many people don’t appreciate others being fucking hypocrites.
this is a PSA to sh*it* shippers that the word “student” does not imply any age in itself, and to continuously twist vague statements to fit your narrative and prioritize those vague statements over explicit confirmation from staff (read: 25, adult) is disgusting.

I have a lot of problems whole ship war - age discourse thing, so I’m going to explain why I think the video ‘confirming the ages’ is not very accurate at all.
To start things off, I want to point out is that the ages have been very inconsistent from the beginning, by Official Sources or Voltron Staff as a whole  (I’m including voice actors, because they are part of the staff)
Official description of VLD says ‘Teenagers’.
VLD Lion Forge Comics have said ‘five teenagers’.
Wondercon said Shiro was a ‘student’ of the Garrison sent into space (So Shiro was graduate aged).
Josh Keaton said that he thought Shiro was a senior while the rest of the paladins were freshmen.
Video by fan says Shiro is 25, Pidge is 14, and the rest is ‘Late Teens’.
In addition, the Voltron staff made no mention of the ages before the fan asked. There was no mention of any solid ages besides the word ‘teenager’ that was thrown about.
You know what that means?
The ages don’t fucking matter in the story.
If it was, they would’ve brought it up in the beginning or maybe have it listed in the Official Website, just like the mention of Keith being an orphan.
Why do I bring this up? Well, that just means the staff does not have solid ages on the characters yet. Of course, they probably had ideas for how old a character should roughly be; which is probably ‘teenager’ since they used that term since the beginning.
Voltron: Legendary Defender was created to tell a story; a story about the characters as they go through this amazing galaxy adventure with a giant robot to defend the Universe from  an evil alien race.
That being the case, the staff would have likely never mentioned anything about the ages if they weren’t asked by that fan.
Think about the video from their [the staff’s] perspective, not ours.
They were not prepared to answer a sort of question. It is highly unlikely that the whole group of writers sat down and confirmed the solid ages, otherwise they wouldn’t have mentioned one crucial point, which many forget to take into consideration, and I quote:
Tim Hedrick: “That’s a safety zone.”
The fan even repeats this statement themselves. Now what does safety zone mean?
Merriam Webster Dictionary says:
Tumblr media
However, in modern use, means:
Tumblr media
The fact that it’s ‘an area in which it is safe’ just completes the idea that the ages are not set in stone. It’s just a ‘zone’ where the age group would most likely be for our fellow Paladins.
I see people yappin’ that they said ‘not adults’ in the ‘late teens’ age group, therefore Lance, Keith, and Hunk must be seventeen years old, which is a fine argument...
...Except for the fact that they really were seventeen years old, they would have said it from the beginning.
This just further proves the idea that they don’t have ages set in stone, but those ages set in the video were just a ‘zone’ where the ages of the Paladins could likely be in.
In addition, if this video really was ‘Official Confirmation’ as some claim, why haven’t any Official Sources followed up on this. Not even any news sites (as far as I’ve seen), has covered anything about the ages being revealed.
It’s inaccurate that’s why; stop claiming it’s the ‘official confirmation’ like you say it is. The video was taken by a fan on her phone, not by any credible news sources or official websites. More so the ages have been shaky since the beginning, with different sources saying different things, and even the video by the fan claims that they are ‘safety zones’.
So all of you young’uns settle down, Mother Loco here says you should all beating each over over ages and ships. It’s stupid and ridiculous.
