Jennifer Hudson, Billie Eilish perform in 3rd night of 2020 DNC — watch here
Billie Eilish debuted her new song “My Future” at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night in an appeal from the party to young voters.
Before she took the stage, the 18-year-old Grammy-winner urged Americans to cast their ballots for Joe Biden “like our lives and the world depend on it.”
The Los Angeles native bashed President Trump, saying that he “is destroying our country and…

Letting Go of Perfectionism
Letting Go of Perfectionism
I can remember that moment, I was just a small listening to my parent’s argue–when my penchant for “earning” love announced itself.
Maybe “announced” is the wrong term. It was more like, it’s necessity became evident. My father had come home after a night of drinking and he was in a rage, and my older brother was practicing guitar moves in the mirror and my mother had check out, yet again,…

Virago Magazine - Your Amazon Prime Oscar viewing Pre-Party
Virago Magazine – Your Amazon Prime Oscar viewing Pre-Party
Have you planned your Oscar party yet?  If you’re anything like me, you’re still in your pajamas and haven’t even caught up on all latest film releases.
Personally, I’ve only seen about four of the nominees.  What can I say? We lead busy lives and some of us get Nor’easters that try to blow us away like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Kinda hard to make it to the theater unless you fly on a broom.

“It was a tsunami. In April of ’82 there was an article in the New York Times about a new gay cancer, and everyone thought ‘oh well.’ I was in my twenties. I wasn’t worried about a thing. But then every week you started to hear about somebody becoming ill. My boss was one of the first. He was a famous florist. He went into the hospital on Thanksgiving and was dead by Easter. I lost most of my friends. A lot of the first men to die were privileged. They were closeted, corporate white men. During the day they were bankers but at night they’d hit the leather clubs and bars. But they learned their privilege didn’t matter after they got sick. They were just ‘gay.’ We had to fight for AIDS to be recognized by the government. We joined together with people of color, and junkies, and prostitutes. It was a beautiful thing, really. Our feminist lesbian sisters taught us how to protest because they’d been doing it for decades. They showed us how to organize meetings, and bring people together, and force the government to the table—things we’d never had to think about as white men.”

How Netflix "Chef's Table" Got Me Back Into Cooking
How Netflix “Chef’s Table” Got Me Back Into Cooking
This time of year is ripe for apple-pickin’, netflexin’ and chillin’ and I’ve been knee deep in documentaries series on Netflix. Why? Well, partly because I am a little spent on apocalyptic crime dramas and also because it’s that time of year when the wind signals a chilly transition to nesting/cuffing season. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Narcos—-to the point where I’ve become a little…

Why All These Budget Articles Didn't Teach Me Shit About Saving Money
Why All These Budget Articles Didn’t Teach Me Shit About Saving Money
If I had to choose which article pointed me in the right direction of budget-sensibility, I probably wouldn’t choose any of them. Plain and simple, budgeting is so incredibly personal and every time I read a new article about it, it literally gives me indigestion.
You mean, I wasn’t doing it right? I bring my lunch to work and I save and I even gave up cappuccinos like Suze Orman told me to!
Then…

How Pink And Alessia Care Are Shifting Beauty Standards In The Music Industry
How Pink And Alessia Care Are Shifting Beauty Standards In The Music Industry
I can’t remember the last time I watched an awards show where I wasn’t at least 70 percent disappointed by lack of substance. Let’s face it, awards shows, especially of late, haven’t been noted for using their platforms to elucidate political issues.
But in this era of post political Trumpism, were are media saturated. All of the ugly forces are coming to light. You say you wanna revolution?…

How Getting Good Sleep & Cutting Back On Coffee Helped My Mood
How Getting Good Sleep & Cutting Back On Coffee Helped My Mood
No one wants to admit that sleep is probably the most crucial part of living. It’s true though. Scientists have proven that you can go three times longer without food than you can without sleep. But in this “grind or die” culture, sleep is the first thing to go. Lack of sleep is easily justified by chugging down copious amounts of coffee, speeding up our adrenal systems to the point where we…
