coming clean to say I was never attached to the origin smp in the beginning….
BUT I will give it a second chance with this seemingly new revival of it!
Excited to see something new from ccs after the…uh…incident

Better End
I wasn’t happy leaving things the way they were in canon. To be honest, most of the end streams were amazing, with just the last bit making things feel a bit awful. I needed to get my ideas and feelings out into the world and despite my how I feel about the finale or the CCs, I needed these characters to have a happy end. I hope other people enjoy this as well.

i think my favorite thing about the way people draw ctommy is they just litter him in patches and stickers and charms and some are for fun and some are meaningful and comparing the later designs to the earliest designs is so interesting because the starting designs were so.... plain isnt the right word. undecorated. and now hes just coated in little memories from everyone. i know people made fun of the butterfly clips and the cardigan and everything but i think its sweet. i love the idea of this kid who screams and yells and swears all the time, this loud boisterous kid, just sewing some patches onto his pants because he rolled down a hill while hanging out with tubbo.

everybody has said everything about the c!tommy finale but i think what upsets me the most is the sheer amount of wasted potential this stream had. because the first half, in my opinion, was actually okay!
c!clingy outsold per usual, and hell even the first bits of dialogue between c!tommy and c!dream weren't even that bad. like especially loved this bit from c!tommy right before he got killed by c!dream:
"i'm sorry because, you're right maybe you were having more fun, maybe you were happier before I joined, but you can't control who comes in and out...But you spent your entire life trying to get power and before this revive book you were the same alright? Before you had this power that you always craved and you got now, alright, you were the same old- I just don't know how you can live with yourself"
because yes! that's him! that's c!tommy! that's him being a fundamentally good person because he understands why c!dream is maybe is like this. BUT he doesn't excuse c!dream because of it. he still accuses c!dream of hoarding power since the beginning and being downright evil - how can he even live with himself? His downfall is his fault no matter if those were his reasons.
but then it all falls apart the minute c!tommy goes to limbo and the last bits of dialogue between them.
and this very delicate idea that a hero can acknowledge why the villain might have done the things they've done but still doesn't make them redeemable that has literally been the cornerstone of their dynamic since the start is thrown out the window.

i've seen a few posts these past few days about how, regarding the finale, c!tommy's last words weren't an apology to c!dream—more of a "oh shit i've just realised my plan will blow us all up and i want to apologise for that fuck fuck FUCK"
and yknow what? they're right!! they are so very right!! when i was initially ranting-post finale, i honestly forgot that there were people either not watching the stream live/not watching at all, and in hindsight i can see how word got out that "oh ctommy apologised to his abuser". because, let's make one thing clear—he did not. ctommy comes to understand cdream, but also clearly and unequivocally says "you're still evil." the one saving grace that ending had was that at the end of it, ctommy does not apologise for being abused.
however. that was never even my problem in the first place.
the issue with the finale wasn't the apology (at the very least, its not the worst issue.) the issue with the finale was the framing. because, let's face it, ctommy realising he has doomed everyone and his last words being an apology for that? makes sense!! that is literally how ctommy acts!! i get that! i'm OKAY with that! hell, ctommy finding it in his heart to understand cdream and feel pity for him ALSO makes sense. it's ctommy. he's that server's goddamn sunshine! he is the hope when there is no hope left and the resolve at the height of war and a heart stubbornly pumping against a bloody sleeve like. thats our ctommy!! that is HIM!!
you wanna know what doesn't make sense, though? framing those actions as if they are good in this scenario. framing them as if they are helping ctommy.
the issue isn't that tommy tries to understand dream. the issue is that it fucking works. the issue is that dream softens, and acts all sad and uwu-baby-boy, and becomes so fucking soft in the span of two seconds that the entire twitch chat felt sorry for him. i SAW that happen! i saw viewers siding with dream, feeling sorry for him, saying he WAS absolved after all!! the issue is that every time ctommy has tried to fight for himself in the past it's failed him—but the scenario where he sympathises with his abuser?? that's the one you want to tell me helps? after everything, every excellent writing decision, after MONTHS of making dream a sadistic piece of shit and tommy a traumatised kid healing more and more by the day, THAT'S what you want to tell me works? talking things out normally? in the last stream dream had cclingy strung up in a fucking saw trap! HOW is this what works??
add in everything else on top of that—ctommys weak arguments against dream and punz, the character assassination of cdream as a villain, the way dream just immediately softens, the fact that, apology to dream or not, tommys last ever words are sorry directed toward his abuser—yeah. yeah, the issue is far deeper than the wrong word. the issue was in the framing of that scene as a whole.

okay after thinking about it for a bit and rewatching the last bit with a clearer mind, i think the pairing of the two (c!tommy going to limbo and then c!tommy having his last conversation with c!dream about what he saw) is good in concept. but the actual usage of it....fumbled to say the least.
so here's a very easy solution that i think drastically improves the finale:
instead of showing a random clip of the beginning of the server, limbo should've played a short montage or maybe a small moment from c!tommy's life that makes him reflect on his past. most importantly that limbo scene should highlight the love in c!tommy's life. which is more fitting for c!tommy as a character anyway because its his limbo and his finale (not c!dream's tbh).
and then when c!tommy comes back to life, rather than highlight their "similarity" like in the actual stream, c!tommy should've highlighted the glaring difference in that c!tommy believes in love. his core story is love as cliche as it is. if we were really going for "c!tommy is a good person so he still wants to sympathize with c!dream", then it should've radiated with "i'm sorry that you didn't and never will experience love because you're so focused on your pride and power, and I couldn't do anything about that - then and now" not whatever the fuck they did in the stream.
and i know this is an easy fix because everything else can literally stay exactly the same. as much as i don't like the nuke and amnesia ending, at least with this fix for only about ~15 mins of dialogue, it's more poignant and wraps up both of them better. PLUS this is literally what happened in finale disc war so i don't know why they couldn't bring up this already established overarching theme when it was needed most.
anyway, just want to clarify i know the ccs aren't experts or professional writers, and I honestly think cc!tommy didn't mean any harm with his writing. but i do think criticism is necessary in this instance because of certain messages in it, and i'm honestly super open to him either writing or sharing an alternate ending or at least a clarification. and this is just one suggestion that I think can solve a lot of the finale's serious issues.

My brain literally doesn’t comprehend the end. Like it logically knows it happened but I’m still like “wow wonder what c!clingy duo are doing right now probably having a picnic” and I genuinely think that

okay last post of nice things before i log off for the night, because i am many things but i am NOT a doomposter:
cclingy my beloved. fucking phenomenal, from the start of the ending series right up until that final explosion. the last thing ctommy ever did was stall to save tubbo. the last thing ctubbo ever did was run to that prison to save tommy. they love each other SO much
we got so many plotlines resolved! the nukes, what happens when you die, limbo--that was really really cool.
the writing of these first three streams--hell, for the first half of this one--was fucking phenomenal. some of the best work i've seen on the server, and i'm so so genuinely glad i got to see it.
i'm choosing to have a good-faith interpretation of ctommys final conversation with cdream. yes, i hate it and think it was horrible framed, no, i do not think it was written that way to tell us tommy forgives dream. i think it was intended as an 'we understand each other' sort of narrative, and a demonstration of how kind ctommy can be, even after everything. i don't think he wrote that ending to redeem an abuser.
there's a lot to criticise, but i loved most of the dream smp storyline. i don't regret loving this at all. i'm very much awaiting cctommy's lore discussion stream, because i genuinely want to know what he was thinking--but my takeaway today will not be one of regret, or hate. i'm glad i got to be here. i'm happy to stay. and i'm so, so fucking glad i got the chance to love c!tommy

hearts for the community man. we made it to the end of this rollercoaster. as much as i wish it ended a bit differently, i'm so happy people in this community turned a trainwreck into a positive reflection of our community as a whole. no matter where it ends up, i don't regret it at all.

as much as I'm not thrilled about this ending, I cannot say that my time has been wasted. I have loved every bit of the story that tommy has created. it's been full of drama, funny moments, but mostly, it's been full of love. to me, that's what matters the most. I was here when l'manberg's walls were built, I was here for the elections. I was here when they were thrown out, when pogtopia was made, when techno joined. I was here when wilbur lost his final life on the 16th, I was here for exile and bedrock bros after that. I was here for doomsday, the disc war finale, tommy's healing arc, snowchester, wilbur's revival, all of it. and all of it made me happy and had truly changed me as a person. I've made great friends, I've written so much, and I've had a lot of fun. no matter what, I am truly grateful for the awesome character that was ctommy and everything that came as a result of it. what a wild ride

maybe i'm just in denial or whatever but i'm 99.99% sure it would've been a wayyyy better ending if cc!tommy has more control over his story (which is honestly sad tbh)
idk if that makes sense but it feel likes the finale *had* to include the staged duo thing and the prospect of connecting the old DSMP server and the new one which i think limited on how to end the finale A LOT.
like if c!tommy just killed c!dream, then c!punz wouldn't be a problem and that would be a satisfying end (but that can't happen or else the staged duo doesn't make sense). and if c!tommy just lived and continued on, then they couldn't start the new DSMP server.
idk i just feel like with those two restraints, there was very little chance cc!tommy could actually write up a good ending compared to cc!wilbur and cc!quackity who didn't really have those restrictions.
