OMG. Is this blog active again?!

Haha hi. I got an anon yesterday and realized there were a few in my inbox that I never got to (I AM SORRY @ everyone who must have sent some of these months or even years ago I didn't see them until now 😩).

I'll keep answering questions if you have them and I still check Tumblr from time to time, but to be honest it's been years since I last read the books or really engaged in fandom.

Hey, I'm a new fan of yours I was wondering about your opinion on the potential of blue bloods to be made into a TV show or Movie. In my opinion, blue bloods would be great adaptation for television. Granted some things such as the "incest" in both of Jack's relationship and the fact that a non-white vampire wasn't put in the story until book#5 would definitely have to be reviewed and maybe even revised. I also think that a transition to television would renew Melissa's interest in the story.

I think it would have been an interesting TV series, and iirc Mel had sold the rights for it when she was still writing the books many years ago. Given the scope of the series I think it'd have to be TV > a movie.

I definitely agree that it would have to be made more diverse by today's standards, although it'd be interesting to see how that would turn out, given the initial premise of the blue-bloodedness of old WASP-y New York society. But hey, if the Gossip Girl reboot could do it, why not rich, reincarnating vampires??

Do you know if Melissa is going to continue the Blue Bloods series?

I don't know for sure, but I think White Nights was essentially the end of the series. My impression was that initially Vampires of Manhattan would be its own full spinoff series, but Mel got so busy with writing other books and series that those just fell to the wayside so Blue Bloods is functionally over.

At the end of Gates of Paradise, the Blue Bloods are free to choose if they want to return to heaven or continue living as an immortal on earth. If they choose to stay immortal, the path back to heaven is always open to them. So Schuyler chose to stay on earth because she still wanted to live her human life, but rather than be cursed to live on earth in perpetuity, she (and everyone else) now have the option to ascend to heaven again.

Personally, I'm a hard Oliver/Mimi shipper, and am curious, what do you think of them (I know you like Kingsley, but what if it was Oliver instead)?

Hmm, I've only ever really thought about them as friends but I think they made an unexpectedly great team. They both hold a great deal of respect for the other even if it would kill either of them to admit that out loud. They care for each other in their actions--Oliver sneaking a talisman on Mimi to protect her from a blood spell, Mimi snapping Oliver out from a Schuyler siren song in Hell--and maybe that's enough, you don't need words for it to count.

I just finished Gates of Paradise ( I first read this series like 8 years ago) and I don’t remember Oliver becoming a vampire. And the last page of the book he’s all of a sudden a vampire. How did that happen?

iirc, after they win the battle for Heaven and the Blue Bloods are forgiven, Oliver asks if he can be made a vampire. I believe this is explained further in Vampires of Manhattan.

I absolutely hate Mimi and I think she's very selfish that could only be because I like Schuyler and I relate to her more but everything about Mimi being great on this blog makes me cringe no offense 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗⚘💗⚘💗💗💗💗💗💗💗

I’ve just read White Nights and I’m also disappointed. Mimi and Kingsley are my favorites and there weren’t any chapters from Mimi’s or Kingsley’s POV. Everything happens so fast that you feel like you read some fanfic not an actual second part to VoM. Well, I don’t think Mel is going to edit it or publish another part so we can finally say it’s over. But even if I’m 21, Blue Bloods still plays a role in my life - this series just has a place in my heart and I’m gonna be Mimi&Kingsley fan 4ever

Right??! After how prominent they were in VoM I was surprised they were barely in White Nights at all--besides to play comedic relief in the background, which feels like such a disservice to their characters. 

And honestly, same. I just turned 23 a couple weeks ago (which means it’s been 10 years since I first started reading this series ahhhh) and I still think about Blue Bloods but specifically Mimi and Kingsley too. Of all the YA couples I ever read, I feel like they were the most formative to me not just because I felt like I watched them grow into their love in real time (from the first time I read it in TVAL the week it was released in 2009 ‘til VoM) but also because their I feel like their relationship shaped my idea of love, of how it makes you selfless and inspires leaps of faith and doesn’t need to be said to be felt (but maybe say it out loud anyway, just do it, please)

Hey, if you're reading White Nights could you let us know if it's worth it? I was disappointed by Vampires of Manhattan tbh but I have to say I'm curious about Jack and Sky's reappearance and what happens to Mimi and Kingsley and Oliver sooo yeah :-)

OK SO I STARTED IT AND AM READING IT AS WE SPEAK AND I JUST HAVE TO SAY, I NEVER KNEW I NEEDED AUNT MIMI AND UNCLE KINGSLEY IN MY LIFE UNTIL NOW.

I’m only a few chapters in so I’ll update this post when I’m done, but so far it’s fun. All of the characters you mentioned are in it! Anyway, I don’t want to spoil too much on here publicly, but if you send me a message or ask (off anon) I’ll tell you allllll about it ;)

UPDATE: I finished it and…I don’t recommend it. Time to go reread my favorite parts from the original series and pretend the VoM spinoff didn’t happen.
