part of my job as archivist for a LGBTQ center involves working with an interviewing elder queers, and the disconnect between our generation and theirs is so upsettingly palpable. so many young queers think that elders aren't up-to-date on identity politics and are "set in their ways" when it comes to understanding the nuances of gender and sexuality, but that is so incredibly far from the truth.
if anything, the real problem is in the reverse. young queers aren't giving the time of day to our elders and its only alienating all of us from our shared history. just about every elder I've spoken to is doing their best to understand how our identity politics have evolved and is actively supportive of our generation adding our language and experiences to our sprawling rainbow tapestry.
there is also this strange idea that elder queers no longer contribute to that tapestry, that their time is gone and its only the youth making progress. but again, that prevailing idea is just alienating our generations from one another. most elders I've spoken to are extremely active in the community and work hard to do what they can to preserve our histories and assist in current activism.
the fact of the matter is that we are losing our elders, both to time and estrangement, and it is critical that we make conscious efforts to bridge the gap before its too late.
TLDR: We have to do better when it comes to including queer elders in our current activism. They are our history, they are our family, and we need to give them the same love they give to us.

Just imagine these two in a group therapy session together
when the function got a high achieving deranged little magic freak who will commit acts of sorcery that undermine every ethical framework and interest of self-preservation in order to sort-of-resurrect their lesbian situationship

Thinking about the Champion's Leathers again this morning. It makes me so ill thinking about the crests of the royal family on it, when the only member of that family left is Zelda. It practically has "belongs to Zelda" written all over it and it's what he canonically chooses to wear the most. He takes pride in being her knight, in being hers. Oh it's sick

I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding of what it means to enjoy a creative hobby. This is of course my personal experience mind you:
I've always wanted to write, but didn't for various reasons (perfectionism, ADHD, etc).
Then I started worldbuilding. And it was fun! But never the Content™. Writing the Content™ is scary because now it's Real Writing and therefore subject to questions of skill and personal worth as a writer.
This is, of course, more personal problems, but here's the point. I finally started writing, yay! And I finished my first project! And I felt...
Very little.
I was expecting this big happy, proud emotion, but I didn't. And it bothered me. Why weren't there sparks? No big *ding* and a level up? No feeling of accomplishment? It put me off a bit, but I kept taking on different projects. I *did* get that feeling once or twice when finishing a project, but nothing reliable.
I recently realized that I was just looking at it wrong. The enjoyment comes from the same place as world building: the act of creation itself! For me the finished project is a relief more than anything, mainly because I really dislike editing.
I've been actively pursuing my creative ventures for roughly two years now and it hit me yesterday. I feel really content, and proud of my work. Not for any big, singular work or achievement, but for continuously being vulnerable, pushing through the discomfort, and truly having fun with it all.
Be patient with yourselves. It's worth it in the long run.
Thanks for reading my ramble <3

You people talk about ADHD / Narcissism / Depression / etc the same way that medieval peasants talked about their humoric temperament.

Honestly I think this is a really helpful perspective to keep in mind. I can't sit down and blow through a book in a single sitting any more, and that doesn't mean I've "lost" something, I've just gained something.
It's stress. There's more stress as an adult.
If you're lamenting the fact that you used to be able to shoot through a 500-page novel in like a day when you were in middle school and now you can't, it's worth bearing in mind that a big part of that is because when you were in middle school, your reading comprehension sucked. Yes, mental health and the stresses of adult life can definitely be factors, but it's also the case that reading is typically more effortful as an adult because you've learned to Ponder The Implications. The material isn't just skimming over the surface of your brain anymore, and some of the spoons you used to spend on maximising your daily page count are now spent on actually thinking about what you're reading!

Well you see minors under 25 years old should not be allowed to get gender reassignment surgery because what if they go to the clinic but instead of giving them a normal penis the nurses mess up and give them the evil penis. That's irreversible

not enough people are into shadowheart/nocturne and it makes me feel insane. like what do you MEAN shadowheart used to beat up people who deadnamed nocturne. what do you MEAN shadowheart would frequently have her memories wiped, but nocturne could get her to remember nocturne in a matter of HOURS if not minutes, and would write on her diary about how happy it'd make her to see the expression on shadowheart's face when she remembered? what do you MEAN that if you give shadowheart the noblestalk, a mushroom so rare and potent there is only ONE of them in the entire game, she doesn't remember her parents or the day with the wolves or the mother superior's name but just nocturne? what do you MEAN nocturne was the one who did shadowheart's hair, and she kept at it until her arms were sore, and even without remembering that at all shadowheart still kept the same canonically hard to redo hairstyle? did shadowheart even like night orchids before their hideout, or did they become her favorite flowers because they were there? were they even actually her favorite flowers, or did she just mix up her attachment to nocturne with attachment to the flowers after forgetting her? hello? hello? can anybody hear me????
