Ballet dancer Tamara Rojo was born in 1974 in Montreal, Quebec. In 1994, at the age of 19, Rojo won a Special Jury Award at the Paris International Dance Competition. She joined the Scottish Ballet in 1996 and the English National Ballet the following year. In 2000, Rojo joined the Royal Ballet as a Principal Dancer. In 2012, she was appointed Artistic Director of the English National Ballet, a position she held for ten years. In 2022, Rojo was named Artistic Director of the San Francisco Ballet, making her the first woman to serve in that role. Rojo has won numerous awards in her career, including the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts, a Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Dance Production, and a Sky Arts Award for Outstanding Achievement.
