TRoS SPOILERS!
If Rey and Ben can touch hands for a few moments in TLJ and see a plethora of visions, enough to bring them both instantly to tears, we have no reason to believe that when they kissed, they didn’t live a thousand lifetimes together. We have no reason to believe he died just when happiness was within his reach, no reason to believe they didn’t see the faces of their children or the inside of their home. Maybe they grew old together in that touch. Maybe this is why Ben smiles just before he collapses, maybe this is why we don’t see extensive grief from Rey.

So...umm...why did I spend my entire time in the theater watching TRoS thinking: so when is one of them going to lose a hand?

Kylo doesn’t care about his legacy
Kylo’s entire existence and reputation is built on his heritage. His lineage is the only reason people see him as important and a person of great potential. But he’s willing to abandon it all to show Rey that family legacy isn’t what makes you important and I think that’s beautiful.

Han believed that Ben turned on Luke, not the other way around
Rey [talking about Luke]: “Why did he leave?”
Han: “He was training a new generation of Jedi. One boy, an apprentice, turned against him, destroyed it all. Luke felt responsible. He just walked away from everything.”
Tumblr media
Han believed that Ben turned on Luke in an act of pure darkness, that his son was truly responsible for Luke running away. Han and Leia had to carry around that burden. Not only must have Han been disappointed in his son, but regretful for what sending Ben away did to Luke.
Luke betrayed Ben, not the other way around. Though Luke ends up redeeming this act, Ben is not the one who starts it, even though Luke believed the act may have been right or needed at the time due to what he sensed in Ben.
Rey [to Luke]: “You failed him by thinking his choice was made. It wasn’t!”
Luke tells everyone the lie, and everyone believes it, even Rey until Ben tells her the other side, the truth. She was so sure that what Han and Luke had told her was true that she drew a lightsaber on Luke Skywalker just to get conformation that it was in fact false and that Ben was the only person who had told her the truth after all.
Tumblr media
Han was never even told this truth. Han was told the worst of his son, yet when they meet, he shows no hatred towards him. Leia may or may not know the truth on the matter, Luke and Leia being twins and having a special connection may have something to do with it, but Leia convinces Han that there is good in their son.
Leia [to Han]: “There is still light in him I know it.”
Han trusts this, and begins to believe it too, even through the information that he has been told about his son and what he did to Luke. When he sees him, he is confident enough to call out his son’s name, and go to him, to try and save him. Han knows the risk, he is making a sacrifice. He knows that whatever happens during their interaction, it may play a part in Ben’s redemption, and that seems to be enough for Han to risk everything.
He tells Ben to come home, that they miss him, and that he will do anything to help him. Han has no hatred, no need for revenge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Han is here, in front of his son, for his son’s sake. Ben knew what Han had been told about that night, yet he was still here; Han is not angry, not when he heard the “betrayal” that his son had caused, even with his son’s lightsaber through his heart, there is no anger. Only love.
Tumblr media
There is only forgiveness. THAT is why the deed split Ben’s spirit to the bone. Han was offering a sacrifice for Ben’s sake, just as Luke would in the future on Crait. This act of sacrifice may have even been more effective on Ben than Luke’s had.
Han: “If Luke couldn’t reach him, how could I?”
Leia: “Luke is a Jedi. You’re his father.”
Star Wars has always been about redemption, love, and forgiveness. You have to think that Han’s actions and his sacrifice pulled Ben to the light, even if it was only by an inch more. You can see in Ben’s expressions that he realizes what he has done, what a monster he thinks he is, the monster Snoke made him into, and he sees what his father did for him.
It was all for him, and he regrets it immediately, just as Luke regretted his decision that he made back when Ben was a boy, betrayed by his master. It all comes full circle in the themes of redemption and forgiveness.

Ok, I did it again. Paper x pencils (HB-6B). Another Kylo Ren from TFA. Dark prince vs cute scavenger. Looking down at Rey not knowing what’s waiting for both of them ahead. ;)
UPD: Thank you, guys, for all your lovely comments! It’s so heartwarming and it inspires me to draw more.

Ben Solo grew up hearing stories about the infamous Darth Vader. He knew that Luke saw light in Vader and didn’t try to kill him because he believed he was redeemable. So when Ben woke up to Luke holding a light saber, ready to kill, he must have accepted that he was farther gone than Vader, if even Luke refused to believe there was light inside his nephew. So he retreated to the dark, he himself believing he had no potential for light. Maybe Ben worships Darth Vader because Vader was actually saved in the end.
