𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐧 [𝐒𝐎𝐋]
honestly one of the reasons why I continue watching nevertheless is for the fashion!! while I was watching ep9 I noticed some things through sol’s fashion that I thought was pretty interesting (o^^o)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. conflict
- at this point, sol is dressed in black outfits, which brings about the idea of a struggle between things, eg. good and bad, day and night, etc.
this makes sense in the case of sol, where she’s facing a conflict/struggle due to the unclear relationship and circumstances between her and jiwan. it could possibly be seen as her conflict against being bounded by the structure of society as well, where a wlw couple is not typically embraced.
Tumblr media
2. warmth
- sol and jiwan are both dressed in warm colours, which has connotations of heightened emotions and joy.
this makes sense in the case of soljiwan, where they feel warmth and passion towards one another. & this is even cuter knowing that they get together right after this!!
Tumblr media
3. joy
- sol is dressed in pink, which is associated with love and femininity.
this colour choice really helps to push the idea of sol embracing her femininity and choosing to love with no end and no boundaries! & it shows how much happier she is now as compared to her conflict period. ++ it’s a pink flannel! so something she would wear but in a different shade than usual, showing how she’s integrating her feminine love-y side with her existing persona.
that’s it! do let me know what you think about ep9 and OUR FAVOURITE WLW COUPLE 💖 have a great day ahead, let’s all be brave to love boundlessly <3

I think I do understand why Jiwan is scared. Why she asked Sol, "but if we date and then we break up... what will we do then? I don't what that to happen." bc she is afraid. Jiwan is scared that dating Sol would inevitably mean losing her because none of her previous relationships have lasted.
which is why she thinks that if they do start dating, Sol would also eventually get over her and leave her. And she cannot fathom not having Sol in her life.
But Sol reassuring her that she doesn't need to worry, that even if they don't date, nothing will change between them. Sol lowering herself physically in front of Jiwan, getting down on one knee and taking Jiwan's hands in hers and looking Jiwan in the eyes as she promises that she will still like jiwan no matter what. and initiating a hug between them because she knows Jiwan's love language is physical affection, is a lot.
and Jiwan's expression when Sol hugs her, the little gasp she lets out at as Sol reassures her that Jiwan doesn't have to worry about losing her at all, she will like jiwan no matter what...
Tumblr media
even if they get the korrasami treatment and just hold hands with their fingers intertwined and smile and be happy with each other doing mundane things in the epilogue, even if it isn't explicitly stated (which I would love for it to be, but. given circumstances, I understand.) I think its okay.
Because the narrative sprinkles in the fact that least Nabi knows about them already, bc
a) Jiwan went to her for advice. It was her feeling insecure and wondering if you date someone and then you break up then you lose one half of your soul and Nabi reassuring her that if this person is already one half of your soul then you must mean a lot to them as well, they must feel very strongly about you too. Maybe this person also feels the way you are feeling right now. So talk to them. After which Jiwan DID.
b) that the next day when she sees Sol, Nabi tells Sol that happiness looks good on her, and that it isn't that Jiwan told her or that Jiwan was being obvious about it but that Sol's happiness is more obvious as well. Nabi clearly knows who Jiwan was talking about. Especially since she was also there when Jiwan ran away from the room whe Nabi was talking to Sol. Nabi knows.
And Nabi at least, really supports them wholeheartedly.
I mean, look at them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sol's smile when she huge Jiwan?? The way Jiwan beams back??? There is no heterosexual explaination for this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are together. In every sense of the word.
The only way to make this better is to let them have at least one good honest kiss ...and I'll be alright.

An analysis of Law School vs Nevertheless
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Law School was (and still is!) my comfort drama, and it got me back into watching kdramas again :) but as I am still in the midst of watching Nevertheless, here are my thoughts on both dramas (seeing as to how the strengths in Law School compare to the flaws in Nevertheless)~~
* I will be referring to nevertheless as (N) and law school as (LS)
1. The main ship
Comparing solhwi vs jaebi, jaebi feels almost like an incredibly low bar. solhwi omg, literally the epitome of SOULMATES! they feel attracted to each other yes, just like jaebi, but they reach a new level of understanding each other without even having to explicitly say it. At the same time, their communication works out and they're really complementary to each others flaws and strengths, kinda like an yinyang situation. LS becomes a foil to N since it's highly contrasted to (and the opposite of) jaebi. Not too sure whether we'll ever see jaebi these heights since it doesn't look like it's coming either. they just both need to wake up and communicate with each other and truly care for each others inner needs rather than just succumbing to their desires and wants at any point of time. But eh at the rate this is going, I rather they just be toxic together than drag potato boy into this toxic triangle.
2. Their friend groups
Nabi NEEDS better friends. A constant trend in the sculpting major friend group is that they seem to care little about the well-being of their friends and that their own happiness and enjoyment takes precedence. Whereas in the LS friend group, they're highly supportive. They stand up for each other and they fight for each other despite having to deal with their own struggles. Their friend group is based on maturity and sincere bonds, while the N friend group is immature and rather superficial.
3. The characters
Not really in any professional position to comment on the beauty of character arcs but the main characters in N are really a different breed,, in ep 6 we got to see a little bit of the inner conflicts and issues that both jae eon and na bi have, but other than that, we've only seen the push and pull draggy relationship between jaebi, and from an audience's pov, that can be extremely difficult to continue watching, especially when there aren't (m)any notable and substantial side stories/content. thus, this renders that little bit of background info in a series with already 7 episodes out somewhat negligible. I wish the characters had more depth to them!! but that's pretty much the selling point of LS, is that each individual character has their own struggles that are built up and (pretty much) resolved by the end of the series. Since these struggles felt realistic and relatable, and were well-executed (+ substantial screentime for each), it made me very invested in the plot and watching the characters was a joy :D
— Conclusion
Well that's that! I guess you can really tell the love and passion I have for Law School as I'm dragging the plot of Nevertheless and questioning why I hurt myself like this :") but I do understand that there are limitations, maybe some parts are from the webtoon and the staff can't really do anything about that anymore? and the OST and cinematography is ooh chef's kiss! probably a cut above Law School when comparing the dramas on those fronts. anyway thank you for reading my thoughts, and feel free to share what you think! have a great day ahead <3
