Madhouse Return
youtube
When its doors first opened in 1965, Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum instantly became the epicenter of sports and entertainment in the State of Arizona. Its distinct silhouette visible by Arizonans and travelers alike commuting through Phoenix, The Coliseum has been the backdrop for some of the greatest sports moments in the history of our state, and the staging ground for some of the world’s greatest artists. From the 1976 NBA Finals, to performances by Elvis Presley and The Rolling Stones, it is a part of our past and present – including the upcoming Arizona State Fair this Fall.
Now, the three-time champion Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA are proud to announce The Coliseum as a part of their future – the home arena for the 2020 season. The original home of the Valley’s original sports franchise, the Phoenix Suns, The Coliseum was the birthplace of professional basketball in Arizona, and the Mercury are proud to return to a building so rich with history.
Most importantly, the Mercury are excited to revive “The Madhouse on McDowell,” one of basketball’s loudest buildings and most intimate fan experiences. With the fans virtually right on top of the action, combined with the amenities the Mercury will add to the building, and the nostalgia of basketball’s return, the homecourt advantage will be evident.

Count on die-hard Tesla fans to continue to support Elon Musk even after the SEC fraud lawsuit
Count on die-hard Tesla fans to continue to support Elon Musk even after he was sued by the Securities and Exchange Commission for alleged fraud, CNBC's Jim Cramer said Friday.
"They won't lose any faith," Cramer said on "Squawk Box." "As long as he's there, and not in jail, they will not lose faith."
However, Cramer added it will be difficult for Tesla to raise capital if "one of the risk factors is the CEO might be in jail."
youtube
Shares of Tesla sank 12 percent Friday, a day after the SEC filed the lawsuit.
Musk is being accused of making false and misleading statements in an Aug. 7 tweet about potentially taking Tesla private with "funding secured." The take-private idea was abandoned on Aug. 24.
Tesla and the SEC were close to a no-guilt settlement, but Musk pulled out of the agreement at the last minute, CNBC's Andrew Ross Sorkin reported Friday, citing sources.
Cramer described the settlement as a "deal of a lifetime," and said Musk made a huge mistake by not taking it.
"He must be going for some insanity defense," Cramer said on "Squawk on the Street." "That kind of deal. I mean that is the sweetest deal ever."
Thursday evening, Tesla and the company's board issued a statement backing the CEO, saying Musk has "integrity," and his leadership "has resulted in the most successful U.S. auto company in over a century."
After Musk apparently smoked weed and drank whiskey during an interview on comedian Joe Rogan's podcast earlier this month, Cramer suggested Musk should go on medical leave.
Musk had been acting erratically for months even before the take-private tweet.
In May, Musk rudely cut off analysts on Tesla's first-quarter earnings call. He apologized during the second-quarter call in August.
Musk was also launching tweetstorm after tweetstorm all summer as he was dealing with production problems for the company's new, less-expensive sedan, the Model 3.

Winners and losers from Ohio Special Election - 12th Congressional District
Troy Balderson leads by 0.9 percentage points, or 1,754 votes, over Danny O’Connor with 100 percent of precincts fully reporting.
Tuesday was a night of extremes. In primaries and special elections in five states — Ohio, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Washington — socialist-leaning Democrats challenged their party's establishment, with mixed results, while President Trump boosted GOP challengers far on the right, with mixed results.
And, of course, the big story is in Ohio. Republican Troy Balderson held a narrow lead in a special congressional election that, on paper, Republicans should have won by miles.
Here are the night's winners and losers.
Danny O'Connor appears to have lost a close special election race for Ohio's 12th District. (Maddie McGarvey/Bloomberg News)
House Democrats (their morale at least): Almost any way you slice the numbers, Ohio's 12th Congressional District in the northern Columbus suburbs wasn't supposed to be competitive for Democrats. And yet their candidate, Danny O'Connor, still has Republicans biting their nails in this special election. With thousands of provisional ballots left to be counted, Balderson is ahead, but O'Connor has not conceded.
Democrats and some independent observers think that the fact that Democrats got this close in such a Republican-leaning district underscores two dynamics trending their way nationally:
Voters in Republican-leaning suburban districts are souring on Trump.
Largely because of that, a wave that will sweep Republicans out of power appears to be building.
Female governor nominees: Nowhere is there a stronger gender disparity in U.S. politics than in governor's mansions. Right now there are a grand total of six female governors.
On Tuesday, voters in 2018 set a record for female nominees for governor in either major party, according to data collected by the Center for American Women and Politics. Democratic voters nominated women for the governor's mansion in Michigan and Kansas, bringing the total number of female nominees for governors to 11. Not all these women will win in November, but experts say just having more women run for office can narrow a subtler gender gap: how voters put different expectations on female candidates than they do male candidates.
Labor unions: They claimed a huge victory Tuesday night by overturning a right-to-work law Missouri Republicans signed last year. Labor unions spent millions to get voters to reject the law by ballot initiative, and they did, meaning unions in Missouri can once again collect dues from nonunion members.
Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kan.): It was more of an annoyance than any real electoral threat. But the Kansas Republican had to make sure primary voters knew he was their actual congressman. A challenger, Ron M. Estes, got on the ballot — and earned a few national headlines for it. The congressman ended up being the winning Estes on Tuesday.
Trump's endorsement record: Trump made his riskiest endorsement this week in the Kansas GOP governor's primary. He chose Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a conservative firebrand, over the current governor, Jeff Colyer. Despite Trump's endorsement, the race was close, and as of early Wednesday, Kobach has a very small lead in a race that's still undecided.
Trump also has yet to prove he has clout in general elections. From last fall's Virginia governor's race to a December special election in Alabama for U.S. Senate to a March Pennsylvania special congressional election and, now, to Ohio's special congressional election, his high-profile endorsed candidates have either lost or, in Balderson's case, had a much closer race than they should have.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and New York congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: These two liberal stars didn't have a great track record Tuesday night either.
In Michigan's Democratic gubernatorial primary, former Detroit health official Abdul El-Sayed lost to establishment pick and Senate Majority Leader Gretchen Whitmer, despite national attention and endorsements from Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez. Ocasio-Cortez's endorsement failed to help a progressive unseat a top House Democrat in Missouri, too.
But a potential coup for the Democratic Party's progressive wing could come in a Kansas City-area congressional seat, where Democrats have their eyes on unseating GOP Rep. Kevin Yoder. There, Sanders-esque candidate Brent Welder was leading more establishment picks late Tuesday. As of early Wednesday, the candidate the establishment wants, Sharice Davids, is ahead.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abdul El-Sayed addresses supporters as his wife, Sarah Jukaku, looks on Tuesday night. (Jeff Kowalsky/Reuters)
Political heirs: Former congressman John Conyers Jr. wasn't even officially out the door in the wake of sexual harassment accusations last year when he endorsed his son to replace him. That plan fizzled, and then the former congressman's grandnephew, Ian Conyers, lost Tuesday's competitive primary in the Detroit-area Democratic stronghold.
The exception to this came in a nearby Detroit-area congressional district, where Andy Levin appeared successful in his yet-to-be-called primary to replace his father, Rep. Sander M. Levin (D), in Congress.

Stanley Cup Finals 2018: Capitals storm back in Game 5 to deliver Washington its first NHL title
After 44 years of waiting for Washington D.C., and 13 seasons for Alex Ovechkin, the Stanley Cup is finally theirs. The Washington Capitals are your 2018 Stanley Cup champions after storming back from a one-goal deficit in the third period Thursday night in Las Vegas to score twice and dump the Golden Knights, 4-3.
Washington, starved for a championship since the Washington Redskins won their last Super Bowl after the 1991 season, predictably went bonkers. And Ovechkin, a transcendent talent and the greatest goal-scorer of his generation, validated his legacy with an elusive Cup after so many years of playoff heartbreak.
Watch Washington fans celebrate Stanley Cup win
youtube
The Caps got the scoring started in a frenetic five-goal second period when Jakub Vrana pumped in his third goal of the playoffs, but the Knights answered a little three minutes later when Nate Schmidt scored off assists from Reilly Smith and Jonathan Marchessault.
Ovechkin, who was announced as the the Conn Smythe trophy winner after the win, put the Caps back on top less than a minute later when he snuck a power-play blast past Marc-Andre-Fleury off a Nicklas Backstrom assist.
The Golden Knights put the champagne on ice, though, for a bit after evening the score on a David Perron goal, then Smith closed out the scoring in the second period in the final minute with a wrister off the power play that put the Knights up, 3-2.
But the Comeback Caps would not be denied. Playoff hero Devante Smith-Pelly, who'd scored just seven goals in the regular season, scored his seventh goal of the postseason on a beautiful diving shot.
And Lars Eller scored the game-winner 12 minutes into the third period on a beautiful find off an assist from Brett Connolly.
