Tbh I didn't read the last 'Sie' as referring to the page and the queen but it does make sense - why would he be mentioned at all otherwise.
I was also not thinking of the gay version (as much as I would like to) but thought that the king and queen were the ones mentioned which....doesn't make much sense in hindsight...
But like I said poetry and me don't mix well, especially older german poetry (on that note tanks to my german teacher for forever ruining german literature for me 🫠)
I find it fascinating how translations sometimes unintentionally alter the meaning of a text. I've seen this before with english translations of german and vice versa. (And on one notable occasion the messing up of the german translation of an english word in a kdrama. That was wild man. Extraordinary morphed into extra ordinary as in super simple and boring.)
I can imagine it happens even more with languages that don't use articles in a similar way as german does :o
And thanks for the tidbit on Heine as well, I know of him obv but nothing about him really :') so that was also interesting :>

Like it's about an old king who "brought a young spouse", and the next verse is about a pageboy who "carried the silk train of [the/a] queen". And then the last verse is about how "they both had to die because they loved too much". I interpreted this as a somewhat creepy ancient greek sugar baby situation but the German original actually says that the king "nahm eine Junge Frau" and that the page "carried the silk train of the young queen". Anyway ajsjdjdj moral of the story be careful with translations and don't make hasty conclusions...

Toi nuoren puolison.
On paashipoika nuori,
Siro kultapää, kevytmielinen,

Okay maybe I'm dumb but where do you get the romance between the page and queen?
I've read it like four times and cannot for the life of me make that connection. (Tbf poetry is not my strong suit, so I am genuinely asking)

the dynamic between heinz doofenschmirtz and perry the platypus would probably come off as v romantic and gay if they were two people in a similar age range rather than a dude and a platypus. no i dont ship them but think about it. villainous monologues are already a very romantic and gay thing in itself (don’t question me on this you know im right). listening to somebody ramble excitedly about something they’re proud of is even more romantic and cute af. also doofensmirtz is already gay anyway. the only thing preventing this from becoming Peak Gay is the fact that perry is strictly professional and also a platypus. thanks for coming to my ted talk

After seeing a question on Reddit about Germans and foldable rulers, I need to know how everyone feels about them.
The ask implied, that foldable rulers are not super common to use or own outside of Germany, and now I am wondering about exact demographics and why.
Pls spread and add your country in the tags if you want. I can not imagine owning a tool box without one of these. And no, I am not talking about measuring tape, I specifically mean these foldable rulers. They also exist with cm + inch measurements.
EDIT: I specifically mean the item from the image. A long ruler, 1-3m long, can have inch + cm, or just cm measurememts, and it may be called a folding ruler or folding rule. The reddit post called it a foldable ruler however, hence I used this term.
#what do you mean they're not common in the US???#at least the rest of europe knows and uses them#we have like 3 or 4 on our flat#no household is complete without a Zollstock#for the people that say they just use measuring tape:#that's for different things! a measuring tape normally doesn't work for example for measuring something completely straight upwards#i can just extend the Zollstock and stick it up and see how high eg something is#very practical if you need to know the height of something and are too lazy to get a ladder to measure top down#i love them#german in germany btw
