Starlight Express - Coco Concept!

OK please bear in mind I’m no artist, I can just about sketch a figure human-like enough to hang a costume design on….  :P  (also my phone camera apparently doesn’t like orange… maybe I should have gone with the blue colourway!)

We’ve been having quite a few interesting discussions about what makes a feminine costume design - with Mama, Coco, who knows who else might be changing gender? And there’s the suggestion that Coco is the masculine Bobo costume, with a french flag skirt tacked on.  ummm.   If our costume design is at the level of “Toilet Door Signs” for gender assignation, I’m concerned.

Skirts have a long history in Western Culture, of slowing women down.  There’s so much symbolism and history in the most iconic difference between men and women’s dress, but skirts are impractical!  Not so much the skaters’ skirts, but look back 200 years ago, skirts and petticoats are heavy, cumbersome, and slow you down. Of course our great grandmothers were tough, practical women who have got by despite wearing skirts, but mens’ wear is simply more practical.

Look at our four classic coaches.  Three have skirts, one does not.  What does it say about Buffy that she doesn’t have a skirt?  literally, she’s “No Frills”!  The Dining car, Smoking Car, and Observation cars are all places of comfort, relaxation, refinement - qualities you can link to the traditional home-making role of women.  Buffy on the other hand, is quick, efficient, a buffet car is not a place to linger.  You get your food, get your drink, then return to your comfortable saloon car. Buffy is no less feminine, but she’s not about that traditional role so much.

So, we’ve been staring and squinting at this preview of a photoshoot - and it’s raising questions.  We know we’re getting Bobo and Hashamoto replaced, and this appears to be the blue engine (Bobo’s original colour, the two had the colour palettes swapped prior to the 1987 Japan/Australia tour, possibly avoiding racist connotations of the Japanese Engine = yellow) with what might be a French Flag skirt. What we can see does not look feminine.  

In my sketch, I’ve altered as little as possible from the existing Bobo design to create a female Coco costume.  The only thing I’ve added is the longer hair, and I’ve tried to streamline the costume.  Working on the feminine signifiers of curves, bust, long hair…  NOT skirts!  Rather than a codpiece we’ve got a leotard leg line (suitably 1980s I hope!) which has the same effect of breaking up the joints.  Rather than a padded under-suit we’ve got a spandex suit.  The chest box echoes the V shape of the leotard leg line, and the V neck line is slightly lower than on the male costume.  Not a low, plunging neck line, but a little more open than before.  Shoulder pads re-modelled to be smaller, sleeker, more aerodynamic, but following the original design. Thigh pads need to be particularly sleek but she needs the details and interest.  Elbows and knees in line with the current feminine costumes, more in proportion for a smaller build, and slinkies over the skates to keep the spandex leggings smooth underneath. 

Overall, she’s an Engine, I think immediately recognisable and she’d look completely in keeping with the other masculine engines, however she’s less about raw power, she’s more responsive and manoeuvrable, she’ll have better acceleration and handling than the bigger engines, but lose out on the straight runs.  A viable competitor, clearly feminine, just as worthy of a place on the starting grid!

Peeta Mellark NPC for Stardew Valley

Hi! I've just completed my first ever mod for Stardew Valley, which adds Peeta Mellark to Pelican Town.

I personally coded everything and drew all the assets (aside from the game assets). He is romanceable, comes with 9 heart events, over 300+ lines of dialogue, and 4 different outfits (with more to come!).

The "story" is set post-Mockingjay, in the future. You can make up whatever details you want for why Peeta isn't with Katniss, etc. etc.

Hope you enjoy playing! It took me 3 weeks to make this, and I'm really proud of it.

I so adore the idea of odesta being protectors of everlark and sort of being their older siblings. Like Finnick and Katniss interactions?! And Annie and Peeta considered the crazy ones. To be honest their double dates looks like Peeta and Annie baking something and cute chatting when Finnick and Katniss stting at the table, watching them with protective dog vibes but at the same time they like "Aren't our partners are the most precious things in the universe?"

Phahsh imagine all those Finnick fan accounts with edits and other stuff. To be honest i would be curious to look at them

just rewatched catching fire and I couldn't help but think of how Finnick delivered his love poem to Annie in that Quarter Quell interview. It's canon that he intentionally said it's for his one true love but surely there are speculations to whom it was for, especially people who didn't know he's together with Annie.

Like if i'm a capitol citizen I would be FERAL on finding out who he was referring to. Just imagine the gossip running about with peeta's pregnancy announcement after it ended. Did you watched the interviews?? finnick is taken! Is it for a someone back in district four? is it another victor? oh maybe it's a capitolite! is it with a fan he encountered with at one time at that one party? or is it really just an act of some last fan service before the quell????

Imagine die hard fans analyzing every word he recited and coming to tiktok making fan theory videos "easter eggs found in Finnick Odair's Quell interview" lol
