Fellow witches and pagans:
You do not have to follow those charts about what color/herb/plant/rock/crystal/food/drink is related to what.
Why?
These are very personal all personal things. There are very few strict rules regarding how each is related to something.
Example: garnet and amethyst are often assigned specific roles. I don't know exactly what they are because what I associate them with is extremely negative. Garnet was the birthstone of someone who hurt and abused me. I associate it with fear, anger, and disgust. Amethyst was the favor stone of someone who irritated the ever loving fuck outta me. I associate it with irritation and annoyance, and nothing will change that.
Red isn't the color of passion or love, it's rage and pain.
White sage isn't something I use for cleansing. I use a combination of rosemary and peppermint. Because of my asthma, I boil them, strain the fresh herbs out, and put the water in a spray mist bottle. Air freshener and cleanser all in one go.
Think about how a thing relates to you and what you do. Those charts and guides are often just noise and relate to white culture. I had a flatmate from China who associated green with sickness and disease, not growth or wealth. A friend from Zimbabwe who associated diamonds with death and suffering and red with dance and music. My husband associates daisies with laughter and love because they're my favorite flower.
These are personal, not universal.

The Nonhuman National Park is a new forum moderated by myself and @liongoatsnake aimed towards nonhumans, alterhumans, and plural systems. While most forums pride themselves on building fences, this forum focuses on building gates: participating here is not contingent on whether you're nonhuman, alterhuman, or plural in some way, but on wanting to discuss and interact with nonhuman, alterhuman, and plural people and discussions. This forum is open to everyone, regardless of where you come from or what you identify as, because we want to make information and conversation surrounding nonhuman, alterhuman, and plural existences accessible and inclusive for everyone. The Park is hoping to establish itself as a community hub and resource center focused on strengthening bridges between various communities and individuals, helping tear down faction-based mindsets, and promoting new growth and ideas. If this sounds like something that appeals to you, become a member on the forums today at https://nonhumannationalpark.boards.net/!

It's very easy to say that magic doesn't exist, but ultimately computers work by channeling lightning through a series of crystals, so who's really to say.

Reworking Gendered Energies
Tumblr media
When getting started with magic, especially magic influenced by Wicca, nearly everything is immediately split into a gender binary. To many people, this system is reductive, exclusionary, and sorely outdated. Here’s how we can rework it and make it useful.
Projective vs. Receptive
When a spell ingredient is listed as masculine or feminine, it rarely has anything to do with actual gender. Reducing the idea to its root, we find that gendering an ingredient is shorthand for depicting the way its energy moves, projective or receptive.
Projective energies, formerly deemed masculine, work their magic by going out from the source and changing things. They banish, they influence, they alter.
Receptive energies, the feminine, draw things in. They work their magic by serving as a beacon/sponge. They attract, they collect, and they accumulate.
With this in mind, we can swap out gender for these meanings and have an extra layer of nuance to our spells. If our spell is focused on, say, drawing in wealth (receptive,) we can use ingredients that focus on bringing the outside in. If we’re sending out influence to convince somebody to give us that new job (projective,) then we can focus on ingredients that reach out. Maybe your spell wants to cast out and bring in, and you can use a balance.
This can also work for deciding the type of spell you’re doing. Think of how candles and wands are typically “masculine” and cups/chalices are “feminine.” To me, that sounds a lot like typical candle spells are projective and jar spells are receptive.
Traditional, binary ideas of gender have a shrinking place in modern day witchcraft. That said, if we can take the gendering that’s already been done and rework it to something more inclusive and more useful, then we can all benefit. What’s nice is that the past few decades of aggressively gendering everything means half the work of deciding which-herb-is-which is already done for us; all we have to do is change our vocabulary.

Let’s talk about •••
Tumblr media
••• Spirit Work
Pt.2/2
You’ve seen it around and decided you want to try your hand at Spirit Work or you have had encounters and would like to take back some control by deepening your knowledge of this practice. So:
I. Where to begin
• First Step
Ask yourself and define this: What do you want to work with? What do you classify as spirits?
Ancestors and Known Deceased
— These tend to be the easiest to communicate and connect with, due to your shared experiences and energies. In this type of Spirit work most people tend to utilize divinatory instruments or the astral.
Unknown Human Deceased
— Just like the first example, these also are somewhat accessible, since their plane tends to be parallel with ours. Normally it requires more steps of protection and precaution, since you don’t know the spirit's temperament nor it’s signature.
Nature Spirits: elements, plants, animals
— These are at the same time the most common and the most difficult type - common because people tend to, unknowingly, communicate with them all the time and due to that their presence is quite naturalized, making it tricky for some to actively seek them out. Each of the subcategories also have their own language and means of communication.
*I’ve added elements, because honestly, ask any nature or green witch out there, elements are also spirits and have their own language, messages and signature.
Nature Spirits a.k.a Entities: angels, fay, demon
— Ah, yes. The coveted and honored. These are easy to connect to, but also are easy to mess up with. Each subcategory of entity has its own subcategory, and in those the methods of communication and connecting vary a lot, but are heavily influenced by two aspects: Respect and also Trying not to mess up and unknowingly sell yourself.
Divine Spirits a.k.a Deities
— Divine Spirits and Deities are the most popularized, since many these days are visited and maintain a tight relationship with their deities. Each deity or divine spirit has its own specificities when it comes to communication and connection, not to mention the UPG’s and particular experiences of their followers, worshipers or workers.
Thoughtforms a.k.a Tar Spirits
— This is a topic to debate, as I’ve seen thoughtform being used in various themes with different connotations, but to specify, this one is related to what the web has been calling Tar Spirits. I, particularly, don’t communicate with them because their egregore and existence isn’t really one amenable to cleansing, enlightenment or anything - but there are people who claim they do so, these two have their own way of being handled when doing Spirit Work.
Those were only some (yes, only some!) generalize examples, each one has its own subcategory. So you see, deciding what you want to work with, first and foremost, is the first step to begin practicing Spirit Work. Also, nothing impedes you from broadening your range of work with time, as long as you have a clear intention as to who and what you’re working with.
• Second step:
With that done, you’re ready for the part that many dread and others adore - Research.
Yeah, yeah, I know. People in the community are already tired of seeing research be always recommended, as if it is implicit. But hey, doesn’t hurt to comment about it once again, because it is true.
This practice, as any other can be done through the empirical way, but will you really put, quite literally, your life at risk?
If the answer is no, then a way to prevent that is to research. Understand the details and methods of the target audience you’ll be working with so that you can prepare and protect yourself.
• Third step:
You defined your target audience, you researched, so much so that you’re confident in yourself and have a certainty that you’ll be safe. Now what? Practice!
Finally the time to start acting and testing all the theory you went through, so… how do you begin?
I’d suggest here beginning in controlled environments with controlled methods. Those, different from just wandering around on energetically charged places (like hospitals, cemeteries and so on) are the ideal to at least not be straight up traumatized in the beginning. So, choose your method of communicating - will you use divination, herbs, meditation, trance, the astral plane, channeling, psychography (the spiritual one, not the study method)?
Whichever method you choose make sure it’s one you're well versed in interpreting, so the chances of having your leg pulled are lesser.
So, do a checklist
Target audience ○
Study and Theory ○
Confidence ○
Preparation ○
Protection ○
Plan and Method ○
Plan B ○
Checked all of those? Then you’re ready to go.
Always make sure to tell a friend who knows what you're doing before, so they can also serve as a second pair of eyes if anything goes haywire.
II. Getting Better
Now, that’s a complicated topic. One because the answer, as you have probably guessed, is to practice. But other than that, when doing Spirit Work you have some… branches of possibility you may choose to follow.
One is to master one technique, applying yourself to the specific type of Spirit with one specific method. Another is to branch out, try as many different Spirits and methods as you want.
So yeah, pretty contradictory, though nothing impedes you from mastering something and then branching out after, just a thought.
III. Instruments
Most Spirit workers do their practices alongside instruments, that of course is not an obligation and it doesn’t mean that if you don’t have one of such you won’t be able to do Spirit Work - but I can not lie, having at least an aiding instrument helps a lot, specially so that you don’t use all your energy up, specially in the beginning of your practice.
Okay, so, these instruments will include herbs and such because they work as an aid during spirit working and also methods of communication, because these too are instruments. With that said, here we go, yeah?
Divinatory Methods: Cards, Runes, Charms, Seashell, etc.
— Used for communication.
Smoking Stick, Candles, Crystals or Incense
— Used for either channeling, warding or intensifying. Can also be used for inviting.
Rue Broom
— Used for cleansing the space before the Spirit work session and after to get rid of any lingering negative energies
Wands and Blades
— Used for directing and controlling energy
Tibetan Tingsha Bells
— Used for attracting and Inviting
Tibetan Bell and Dorjee
— Used for cleansing and passing on the Spirit.
Bones, Remains and Plants
— Used for channeling and Inviting.
Rope and Vessels
— Used for binding.
IV. Interesting Readings
-> How to Communicate with Spirits: Seances, Ouija Boards and Summoning by Angela Kaelin
-> A Brief Introduction to Macumba - on The Culture Trip site
-> Features of Trance Mediumship in Tibetan Buddhism and Modern Spiritualism by Martha Maxine Meilleur
-> The State Oracle of Tibet, Spirit Possession, and Shamanism by Homayun Sidky
-> Buckland's Book of Spirit Communications by Raymond Buckland
-> Talking with the dead: Spirit mediumship, affect and embodiment in Stoke-on-Trent by Nadia Bartolini, Sara MacKian and Steve Pile
••••• 👁•••••
This is it, I’m happy I could approach this topic because it has been one that I’ve been wanting to breach for a while here on tumblr. The readings above are mostly easily accessible pdfs, so if you have time take a look at them, yeah?
Hope this somehow can help someone.

✨Room Cleansing Spray ✨
Tumblr media
This is perfect for those who want to cleanse the area before spellwork but can’t/don’t want to burn sage or palo santo! It’s also a great little pick me up and it’s very useful for grounding and centering if you use himalayan salt.
You Will Need:
- a spray bottle
- himalayan salt (protection, cleansing, grounding & centering) or sea salt (protection, cleansing, purification)
- preferably moon water but tap water is ok
- optional: dried rose petals (protection)
- lavender essential oil (purification)
- clary sage essential oil (protection, clarity, cleansing)
- tea tree essential oil (protection, purification and aura cleansing)
- definitely not optional: witch hazel (removing negativity, hexes and general dis-ease) - also makes the essential oils mix with the water. do not leave it out!!
sidenote - if you want to use this spray on you or your clothes, dilute the essential oils first to make sure you don’t develop a sensitivity!
How To Make:
1. mix a teaspoon or so of whichever salt you chose with your water and wait for it to dissolve before pouring it into a spray bottle.
2. add witch hazel in a 2 parts water 1 part witch hazel ratio
3. add a few drops of lavender essential oil, clary sage oil and tea tree oil depending on the strength of the scent you like
4. add a few dried rose petals if you want to!
5. put the lid on the bottle and give it a good shake before each use!
I personally use this for meditation, grounding & centering, before spellwork and to help me get to sleep.
Remember to always be safe with your essential oils!
💗
EDIT: be careful if you have cats because lavender is toxic to them! make sure not to spray too much or omit lavender oil from the ingredients if you want to be totally safe.
thanks for the reminder @rainbow-lava

Otherkin Black Mirror Ritual
My friend posted this on twitter and I thought I’d share it on here! Obviously don’t take it too seriously- things like this are usually caused completely by your imagination. Your brain tries to work out things that don’t quite look like things your recognize, like how you see faces in clouds if you look hard enough, or see shapes and patterns in muddy water, etc. But maybe it can help you out a little if you’re in a tough spot with your identity, or you could do it just for fun!
Basically it’s like the Bloody Mary ritual, but instead of summoning a spooky ghost lady, you’re just trying to see your “true self” in a mirror in the darkness.

(my friend tried it out btw, they didn’t see much lol)

💐Picnic witchcraft guide💐
Sandwich correspondences
Fruit correspondences
Vegetable correspondences
Tea correspondences (sun tea, tea in general, floral tea)
Flower correspondences- can be used as decoration, for flower crowns, as a fun nature activity (collecting them respectfully, of course), and edible flowers can be used for deserts, drinks, and salads!
Desserts- here’s some witchy dessert recipes, perfect for any picnic!
(Tiny strawberry pies, cranberry pistachio shortbreads, cardamom pear cake, ginger and fig tart, apricot coconut bites, and lavender tea bread)
Locations- fun witchy locations for picnics include:
🌹a botanical garden, floral garden, or any sort of garden (perfect for fae, floral, air, green, life, spring, and summer witchcraft)
☀️a sunny open field/area (probably has wild flowers!, great for air, sun, floral, and weather witchcraft)
🌙⭐a night picnic under the stars and moon! (Perfect for lunar, nocturnal, and cosmic witchcraft)
🌳a park (great for all witchcraft, very versatile)
🌊💧a beach, pond, lake or near any body of water (perfect for water, sea, and love witchcraft)
👻a cemetery (perfect for death, spirit, medium, and floral witchcraft. Just make sure it’s allowed and you’re respectful of graves)
🌲A forest (perfect for forest, tree, nature, green, earth, and hedge witchcraft, here’s some tree correspondences)
Other witchy picnic ideas:
Stones/crystals to bring- it depends a lot on location and the general theme of the picnic! But a few favorites of mine are:
rose quartz, opalite, any aura quartz, sunstone, agate, tigers eye, and selenite (especially peach selenite)
Scents- I like to focus on scents a lot during picnics. It can make the experience so much more enjoyable! Location once again plays a huge role, but you can always spray your picnic blanket with essential oils, use strongly scented herbs or flowers, use a specific perfume, or even a specific tea that smells good. Some scents I like to focus on during picnics are:
lemon, orange, grapefruit, lemongrass, strawberry, orange blossom, gardenia, rose and lavender
Bring some little spells or offerings with you! A picnic in nature is the perfect time to do a little crafting, especially love, self care, fae, peace and happiness spells. And you can correspond your picnic with the intent of the spell!
It’s also a great time for devotional offerings and any other offerings, especially fae offerings.
Put together a picnic spell- an entire picnic can be a spell! Everything from location, to drinks, to food, and the extra stuff you bring along can be in it.
🍑Have fun picnic witching! 💐

I took this from Twitter because it's no joke. A lot of witches tend to keep these lamps so I felt it would be worth bringing up. Please be careful and safe! Nobody wants to lose a fur baby.
Even if you aren't a witch, still please keep this in mind!!!!!

ok just brainstorming some ideas for past life regression spells
I think windows/doors/stairs are all good for past life regression because of the metaphors for going to another place or looking through something like a window into your past. doors I’d say are most commonly used in past life meditations from what I’ve found in my research, but what about physical doors? maybe you could make a door out of paper and open it to “open” the metaphorical door to your past life, or sit by a window with it open, or sit on the edge of some stairs, maybe walk down them once you get to the step in your regression where your mind is cleared and you’re ready to “step” into your past life. what I thought of for me was using a sheet of plastic to represent a window in a spell, because as a crafty person I happen to have some sheets of clear plastic.
I think what I will go with in the long run is making a magical dream journal. I have an old little notebook and it’s kinda worn but I think I could give it a makeover and make it look elfy to help me connect to my elf self (which is the past life I’m trying to look into). there’s a lil pocket thing in the back too so I could totally stick miscellaneous pics in there that help me feel elfy. I could also make a bookmark with string and maybe a crystal or whatever I decide could work. that way I not only have something magical to stick under my pillow or hold to help me have past life dreams or aid me in meditation, but I’ll have a journal to write down memories as well!
I also might make another tumblr account to purely only follow people who post photos/aesthetic pics that remind me of my elf self. dunno. I did create a pinterest board and I’m totally gonna look at that before going to sleep/meditate.

I REALLY want to do some past life regression stuff to figure out more about my elf life. I’ll let you all know how it goes! Might even make my own past life regression spell/method based on whatever I find works best for me! I imagine it will take more than one session lol so I’m sure I’ll have plenty of time to figure out what I think is best for me personally.
