A sum up of my few days away over Christmas. Really enjoyed spending time with family, taking the trainš out to Eketahuna, and meeting my parents' new cat, Koru. I have been working full-time during summer, and am moving apartments at the moment, so things are hectic, but I'll try to post some pics of my room once I'm done.

Handwritten Note-Taking Methods
The appearance and organization of my notes plays a huge role in the amount of time that I dedicate to studying and my overall performance on tests. Ā Therefore, Iāve spent the past several years experimenting with various methods, and these are a few of the techniques that Iāve found to be most beneficial.
Cornell Method
The Cornell Method emphasizes identifying the key points of a textbook passage or lecture and consolidating information as much as possible. Ā
Iāve found that this style works best for literature and science courses that require extensive, dense reading and note-taking. Ā It allows me to easily and quickly identify what I understand versus what I still need to work on.
Adapted Cornell Method
Iāve created my own adaptation of the Cornell Method by eliminating the summary section at the bottom of the page and incorporating Post-It notes throughout the body of the page to highlight lists and key points. Ā And, of course, I had to add some color!
Outline
This is, by far, my favorite method due to its flexibility and clean, minimalist appearance. Ā While the image above doesnāt depictĀ a true series of bullets at varying levels of indentation, you can experiment with different types of bullet points as well as varying spacing. Ā
I prefer using this method for maths because it allows sufficient space for me to draw graphs, record examples, and solve problems. Ā
Mind-Maps
Mind-maps are extremely helpful for organizing complex or extremely confusing topics. Ā Thereās no right or wrong way to go about drawing one, and much of the final appearance will be related to the material that youāre diagramming. Ā Keep in mind that certain topics and information will more readily lend itself to this sort of portrayal.
For those of us who arenāt artistically talented šš¼, these can be rather challenging to construct, especially when working with unfamiliar material. Ā In the past, Iāve used mind-maps for history when looking at isolated events or individuals.

@upthehillartā brought something to my attention.Ā
If any of you have noticed that your dashboard seems to be dead latelyā¦ or you keep seeing the same posts all the time, this is probably why:Ā
Apparently tumblr has implemented a new feature calledĀ āBest Stuff Firstā as a DEFAULT settingā¦ basically it makes it so that you no longer see posts from the blogs you follow in chronological order.Ā
Instead youāre seeing posts that tumblr has selected that are consideredĀ āthe bestā or trending. Tumblr selects them (based on some sort of algorithm) and puts them at the top, while pushing the rest god-knows-where.Ā
This is causing a serious decrease in activity for a lot of blogs, and a lack of exposure, especially for smaller blogs.Ā
Howeverā¦ If you shut off this feature your dash will go back to normal.
To turn it off on mobile, go to your Account >Ā
Global settings >Ā
Dashboard preferences >
And there it is that sneaky bastard.
Just a heads up for everyone! *thumbs up*Ā
Maybe if we can get enough traction,Ā @staff will finally take it off of default and simply have it as an option instead. ))Ā

Studyblrs! Please turn off "Best Stuff First" in āDashboard Preferencesā in General Settings
REBLOG TO SAVE A BLOG (DO IT FOR YOUR OWN BLOG!)
Youāre missing out on heaps of original study tips posts and heaps of great stuff by creators, not just me! My study tips are really detailed but can be specific at times, I donāt want to have to resort to poorer quality posts or clickbait titles to bring in the activity :ā(Ā
Studyblrs are one of the biggest communities on tumblr, we can make a difference!
@staff please remove this feature! Iām an original study tips maker and this killed my activity! Tumblr is about original creators as much as reblogging, and having this option on will mean only the popular bloggers get featured more and more. Itāll be so much harder for new studyblrs to get a foot in!
Reblog to protect your own original content from being filtered!Ā
Check your activity graphs. Iām sure youāll find yours drops off at the same date. #spreadtheword #protectyourcontent #protectoriginalcontent

Hey did you live in a halls of residence first year of uni? Because applications open tomorrow and I'm not sure which ones to apply for! If you did, which ones would you recommend? I got M endorsed year 12, and I'm not really a partying type.
Hey, sorry for not replying sooner - keep forgetting to check my inbox. Yep, I lived in Weir House for my first year. It was a great way to make friends, and our RAs were really helpful. During exam periods, the quiet time curfew was earlier, so you could study/sleep without too much noise. Weir House has a lot of law students, so particularly after they had tests, there would be some pretty noisy parties. It really depends what hall you're in as to how noisy they are. But with halls you can get the staff to ask others to be quiet. Did you end up applying?
