I take issue with the fact that you call so many characters racist. Like, Amity for example. You said she was racist because she bullied Willow ( in your words, korean-coded). She wasn't bullying Willow because she was korean(coded).
Amity bullied Willow because her magic was weak.
NOT. Because. Of. Willow's. Race.
Amity would have bullied Willow no matter her race because she was bullying Willow over her lack of magic! It's not racist! You could argue it was discriminatory towards non-magic users, but it's not a dig against her skin color.
Also! The Boiling Isles never had chattel slavery! So your 'Lilith calling Luz a pet' holds no basis because there's no evidence there was ever slavery in the Boiling Isles! There's no proof whatsoever to prove Lilith would have had a racially motivated reason to call Luz that!.
She called Luz that because Luz followed Eda around all the time! She used it in a way that was equivalent to calling Luz a 'Teacher's pet' not as a racial statement!
The Boiling Isles aren't real. They're fictional. They were created by Dana Terrace and The Owl House's team, who are all real. They created the characters and setting, putting their own intrinsic biases into the product. As such, trying to pull the "well racism doesn't exist in this world" card is such BS. If you have a character that has Asian features, a Korean last name, and an Asian VA, it's entirely fair to call you out if that character is treated badly. The same applies for mistreatment of black and queer characters.

What are your thoughts on Belos as a villain?
I think the idea of him paralleling Luz as a human who came to The Boiling Isles is a neat one, especially one who came hundreds of years earlier and appropriately carries over a lot of commonplace prejudices of the time. Of course, it's an idea that they don't do much with. Is his hatred of witchcraft and sorcery associated with real world prejudices towards women or non-white people? Nope. He just...really fucking hates witches! Like yeah, there's reasons why colonialists did that, but the show clearly doesn't care enough to delve into those. It just makes a villain who hates the protagonists 'cause they're the good guys and he's the bad guy. Unmemorable.

Is there anything about the show that you DO like or is it all just irredeemable trash?
I like Luz as a character, she's well rounded and very likable. I just want her in a show with writing that treats her better. Eda is also likable, with a great voice and a well-developed relationship with Luz and a nice arc. Willow and Gus are enjoyable, just treated worse by the writing than Luz. King is fine, nothing special but nothing egregious either. There's lots of little things about The Boiling Isles and it's world building that are very cool, just rarely expanded upon. There's heaps upon heaps of potential that could be expanded on into a 10/10 show, but sadly, it just never comes to fruition.

When was??? Lilith ever racist???
She literally called Luz, an afro-latina character, the pet of Eda, a white woman. The show literally just made a black girl experience a micro-aggression that mirrors the real-life commodification of black women for no reason but shock value. It’s shitty, racist writing.

Barring the facial features thing, I feel like Luz just doesn’t have a strong feeling of an Afro-Latina identity. Like, we have no clue about her dad, but it seems to be the consensus that her mom is an immigrant(don’t remember if it was every canonically confirmed either behind the scenes or onscreen) but it just feels like Luz isn’t a second-generation immigrant at times.
Like, no Luz trying to recreate a Dominican comfort food, or talking little tidbits about her mom and home life that are laced with Dominican culture, and I feel like her slipping into Spanish has occurred less frequently as time goes on. Yesterday’s lie feels like the first time we really got to see any form of it, and that is like really small(the food Camilla was going to cook, Spanish speaking, and the whole la chancla thing, which seems to be a bit divisive in if it’s inclusion was good rep or just adding to stereotypes). It feels like her cultural identity overall is kinda steamrolled, and it doesn’t help that the fandom is adamant(especially during previous hiatuses) on her abandoning the Human Realm and her mother for Amity and the boiling isles and basically forgoing all human culture for boiling isles culture
I’m not saying Luz has to be expositing her cultural identity at every second, but considering the whole ‘First queer Afro-Latina protag rep!’ thing and the whole representation thing the show has going on, it feels absent in showing Luz as an Afro-Latina teenager, growing up in an Dominican immigrant household, especially when the world she’s in is just a bunch of Medieval European imagery with some steampunk slapped on top with the wholly original concept of ‘ooh it’s like our world but things have eyeballs and teeth on it and they bite’
Another thing to note! Luz is definitely better on the latina side of her afro-latina identity, but it's still not perfect. I'm not a spanish speaker, so I'm only going off of what I've read from those who do speak it, but I've heard the regional dialect is all off. Luz's spanish apparently isn't consistent with what one would expect from a Dominican family. Again, not my specific place to speak on it, but I wanna augment the complaints of those who deserve to have their culture acknowledged and celebrated by a show that claims to so badly want to represent them.

I'm really sorry you're getting all of this shit from people :/ I like the show but like. It's not that hard to recognize the validity of your complaints even AS a white person. I wish they had given more time to gus/willow and either developed luz's feelings towards amity better or. idk given her a love interest that wasn't as much of a bully at least. Anyway,, people need to learn that criticism isnt always an attack. Hope you're doing okay! Have a good day/night/etc <3
It never astounds me that people can be in my inbox and prove how damn easy it is to just listen to Owl House criticisms without freaking out and telling other white folks to block me. Like, it really is this easy. Other fans, take note!

What are your opinions on the rest of main cast outside of Amity? Thoughts, opinions, favorites, etc.
You have a top 5 favorite list? Top 3 least favorite?
Luz and Eda are easily my favorite characters. Luz has always been very likable, she's just treated like shit by the writing and mostly white crew. Eda's just really likable when she's not constantly forgiving and simping for her racist sister Other than that, I like Willow and Gus, but there's not a lot to go off of for me to really gush over them. They're just enjoyable characters that I wish got treated better. Other than them, I don't know. King's not bad, but never been very memorable. Uhhh.......Principal Bump is pretty cool? A nice guy who actually apologizes and makes amends after doing awful shit to Luz, instead of just getting a sob story without any earned redemption? Cough, cough, Lilith.
Speaking of Lilith, least favorites! Her, of course, for being racist and doing awful things she never makes any apologies for. Kikimora, for being an even shallower version of the same character that we're still expected to sympathize with. And, of course, Alador. At least Odalia is fairly maligned through and through. With Alador, the show wants us to handwave away his years of neglect and abuse and decide that he and Amity are just a perfectly healthy relationship all of a sudden. To hell with that.

While I do see your criticisms of the Owl House as legitimate and valid, I still like the show. I disagree with some of your opinions but that’s neither here nor there. I think calling you a troll blog is going too far, because you have pointed out things that didn’t even occur to me. This isn’t a hate message, I just wanted to say I see your opinions and respectfully, I still like the show. That’s all.
Okay? I appreciate that you're calling out white fans for calling me a troll blog, I guess.

Everything on this blog seems more of a Disney problem than a Dana problem tbh. Cause y’know, a show is collaborative effort with irritating corporate meddling, and the end product isn’t always what the creators originally had in mind. Like how Marinette from MLB was clearly Chinese and Honey Lemon from BH6 was more clearly Latin American in concept art but became white-passing. It’s hot garbage but more the fault of stakeholders than show runners.
Though to be frank “any queer couple where one of the characters is white is bad rep” is a very unfortunate tumblr take. Please talk to queers outside of niche internet spaces.
Please talk to non-white queer folks!

Hello!
First of all, I'm glad to find people who are willing to see all the flaws of this show and see what's not so good, I haven't found many people with that kind of opinions, without further filling my question :)
What do you consider to be the worst flaws of the show?
If I had to narrow it down to a top 3, it'd be
Luz being a black protagonist but without any care being put into her have black features.
Making Amity and Hunter such focal points while Willow and Gus suffer despite being introduced earlier and with more reason to have that focus.
I haven't actually written about this yet but the way that two white women wrote a whole fucking *la chancla* joke in Yesterday's Lie is just???? so fucking gross honestly.
Honorable mentions go to Lilith just being openly racist to Luz and Alador being an abusive parent who gets immediately absolved of any wrongdoing.

Given how some people in the black community feel Gus and Luz aren't adequate representation, what is your opinion on Darius?
Darius falls squarely into a middle-ground of "okay" imo. Nothing stellar, nothing appalling. He's at least unmistakably black, so it's not a Luz situation. On the other hand though, he does have the unfortunate downfall of being super invested Hunter's personal growth, which when combined with him being so foppish just gives me these gross mammy vibes. Like, he's portrayed as being smarter and not as easily manipulated as the other coven heads, but then they just so easily incapacitate him at the actual day of unity.
Also, hate, hate, hate the fact that they literally just recycled an old Lilith design for him almost entirely. Hate it so much. Do not model your black character after a character who was openly racist to your afro-latina protagonist.

So, I’ve scrolled through most of your posts on the not so great representation in Owl House. Many of your critiques are completely understandable (especially the ones about needing more POCs in the crew). But, do you have to immediately act hostile to anyone who questions your opinions? The point of posting analysis and opinions on a work of fiction is to share your ideas while also acknowledging other viewpoints. There is no need to berate people who haven’t done anything wrong yet just because they don’t understand your perspective.
I get called a bitch and otherwise insulted or told by those same people that they want to harm me for what I write on this blog. If I can survive that, then people who I don't treat with one hundred percent sugary sweetness at all times can suck it up too.

Please use the negativity and anti tags please
Just like anti Lumity
Or even just anti toh or anti Owl house
I would rather not see negativity in the main tags if there is no other tags that can be blocked
I guess I appreciate that at least some folks would pitch this idea, instead of leading a literal hate crusade against me and trying to encourage every TOH viewer to block my page by trying to portray me as a troll blog.
Yeah I'm still pissed at that, fuck white TOH fans who do blatantly racist shit like that and get away with it, lmao

Big eyes and small nose
Like Disney, The Owl House also makes use of this type of design for most of its female characters, but while Disney is criticized, toh still calls it an "innovative" program.
I am one of those people who think that everyone is free to draw their characters the way they want, I am not criticizing the show for doing this but I find it funny how some people criticize Disney for this while toh does the same thing and no one says anything. No, I don't consider it a case of same face syndrome because they vary the shape of the faces, nose and eyes but in general most of the female characters use the classic formula of small nose and big eyes while the male characters have a little more variation and their noses are not so small, of course, there are some men with small noses but it is not something that is repeated a lot.
Besides, where are the genetics of the Alador and Dell in their respective children?

Amity Blight was never a good person
This is the problem with white fandom in any cartoons the white character can get away with the most inhuman and heinous acts and all they have to do is have a charity for whatever reason and their a “precious cinnamon roll” who doesn’t know any better and needs to be coddled like a baby.
Amity when she was first was introduced was a white coded bully and wanted the Dominican Character Luz dissected in order to prove that she was fake. Amity at that moment knew it was Luz but she still ordered it regardless. She was bullying Korean coded Willow for many years of her own free will before Luz came into the picture and all of a sudden because she is with Luz she is “nice”. In reality what really happened with Willow was Amity got tired of having to drag around Willow and was more than happy to be friends with people on her “level” when she was introduced to Boscha and Skara. She was possibly more than happy to stab Willow in the back when it came to proving how strong she was to the other two her parents didn’t even need to threaten her. In addition when the hell does Amity get to tell Luz what the right thing to do regarding friendships and pushing someone too hard when she nearly destroyed Willows mind in order to hide her past from Skara and Boscha. Instead of that episode being a Lumity moment that should have been a moment between Amity and Willow and she should have called her out on her mess! If Luz had not shown up Amity was not going to do anything but continue to be the rich mean girl.
Then Lumity as a couple is so forced and fake it’s not even funny. How the hell the Amity go from hating humans to wanting to date one in less than five episodes. What chemistry do these two have other than magic and Luz can’t even do that without Glyphs!! being a witch is Amity’s culture while Luz seems to think it’s a game… So how will this work? Another thing that I should add is how is meeting Luz’s mother going to work I’m sure Amity will find it interesting to find that Luz has mother that she would kill to have and she willingly ran away from her and made no attempt to go back to the human realm when she had the chance to check on her? Then is this the writing in the show or an example of Luz being extremely tone deaf and self centered… She knew Amity bullied and humiliated Willow for years but instead helping Willow your romancing her enemy and basically saying Amity is better than her and I’m just as bad as Amity is on the inside… Ok.

The more I think about it, it would make total if not more sense if Luz was more explicitly shown to be African American or her father/ Camilla was. It would cthematically paralelel more with Philip (a puritan witch hunter who was and is most deifnetly a white supremacist) considering the long historical ties between black women, colonialism, and so called "witchcraft".
There's maybe an interesting idea in there, but I don't trust the white writing team to do that tactfully or respectfully. They'd probably do what Lauren Faust did in My Little Pony and inadvertently have their anti-racism episode lean heavily into racist archetypes. Like, imagine how much worse this would be if this was an actual black woman.
