so anyway i continued working on the scene I posted previews of as a holiday gift and guess what
tbf if i’m nice to him it doesn’t drop by much all things considered
Ricky's stat bar is intended to be a roller coaster ride, some things may drop his stat bar but aren't "wrong" answers by any means-- iirc there's some already (and some that will in the future even if there's none now) which may lower his stat bar but up the invisible stat I keep for his attraction towards the MC

Originally I was hoping to have the update done for the holidays as a gift. That didn't quite pan around but I still thought it'd be fun to give y'all a gift and a thank you for your patience.
So! Since I've been putting up a few little screenshots here and there of my tests as I write and fix my broken coding, I thought it'd be fun to do a longer preview featuring a scene in the coming update with everyone's favorite wet cat of a man, Ricky Demspey.
Spoilers below, of course, but nothing story relevant, just character bonding.

Yolanda's Interview is now almost 95,000 words. Yolanda's interview is now almost a full third of the entirety of the Model Citizens demo.
Did this mean I thought it was getting too long for one scene file? Yes. Does this mean I decided to put all the opinion questions I've been working on into a gosub scene file? Also yes. Does this mean I just spent a half hour making sure the formatting was correct because they were in their own file now and not under a specific choice? Also also yes. Does this mean I am confident I didn't break the code in doing so and won't need to spend even more time later on banging a hammer against it until it works? No.
My code is a mess and I pray for everyone's sanity no one but me needs to look behind the curtain at how it all functions because Model Citizens' code is run by a very tired hamster on a very broken wheel but my god are his little legs moving.

Since you said you have a soft spot for writing couples communicating through their boundaries etc, who is the best RO at setting/keeping/respecting boundaries in a relationship? Who really needs to learn to work on it??
Ohhh, I'll split this into two parts since some are really bad at setting their own boundaries but good at keeping yours. (.... Raf.)
I'll also note, just because I feel like it'd be uncomfortable for me to read an IF where I have my MC set a boundary (often because I wouldn't want to read that particular thing), and then have a character not respect that boundary (even if it's in character for them), I'm not really gonna do that here.
Even more chaotic ROs will all respect any boundaries you, the player, set. I'm treating those things the way as what would make me have an enjoyable reading experience as a reader, since the ultimate goal of Model Citizens is to have fun and be fun for all involved.
(I'll also note, perhaps... making that disclaimer a bit redundant, all of these ROs would respect boundaries anyway. The ones lower on the list are more the more excitable ROs who, for example, in a moment of great excitement and energy and joy might sweep up and kiss an MC in public who isn't a fan of PDA. But would do so because they were excited and not thinking and then apologize after.)

Welcome back to: It was supposed to be a short scene but I really enjoy the act of writing and refuse to be stopped.
This time featuring: I have more fun with scenes where things go worse than scenes where things go better.
With a special appearance by: my soft spot for writing couples communicating through their boundaries, likes, and dislikes because nothing makes me kick my feet like communicated consent.

Not to ask another Ricky question but
when he himself has learned to calm down a bit more as his own habits become healthier and his stress levels go down
Does this happen purely on a romance path or is this something he'd ever learn on his own?
Haha all good, I always get in more question answery modes when I'm writing on the demo so short, quick questions about single characters like this are A+ because they work extra well while I work!
Anyway:
Something he learns on his own!!
I'm big on having friendship paths mean just as much / having each character have their own story beyond just "romance".
Ricky's personal character growth is pretty much all about this, learning to let go of his unhealthy habits and discover the parts of himself he's pressed down in favor of an idealized but unrealistic standard.
That's why, even if you don't romance him, or romance him with a female MC, he still also goes through the self discovery of realizing he's bi!
Granted, you can also not interact with him / his story, in which case he'd probably seem the same beginning to end. I like to think he's still going through it in the background but because the MC is the central focal point of this story it might not be fully evident to an MC who isn't focused on him. Still! The man's is there, getting therapy in the background.

Grace messing with us to mess with Ricky - would Ricky try to keep a distance between us and Grace? I'd like to say because he feels a little protective over us but I'm thinking it would be more along the lines of saving himself from the embarrasement of her teasing/bullying!
At first: Yes but not for the MC's sake, much more like you said along the lines of he knows what she's going to be like and he knows he's not going to like it (and that, depending on the MC, you might even join her) so he'll try to keep them separate for saving himself from the irritation.
Later, when he himself has learned to calm down a bit more as his own habits become healthier and his stress levels go down: He'll roll his eyes at her teasing but won't try to keep any distance. While I don't think Grace and Ricky would ever be friends (they're... too similar, really), if the MC does happen to get along with her then he'll tolerate her presence. Him not reacting as much also makes it less fun to tease him to Grace, so she'll cool down too, and the whole thing will generally be a bit more pleasant.
That being said, if your MC is the type to express discomfort around Grace for any reason (their past marriage, her personality, the way she also kind of messes with the MC to mess with him), then he'll actually step in between them to draw some lines.
So he could potentially be more protective! But that's more in the case that the MC actually really doesn't like Grace, and he knows that Grace really won't listen to them. She's as stubborn as he is, haha.
