Pretty Hurts: Black men skin care Chronicles
In effort to understand the nature of my skin and to better take care of my body I have launched myself on a “self-care journey”. I hope that by learning to properly take care of my body that my inner beauty / flawless nature will show and that I will maintain a young healthy skin.  So who am I and why is this important to me? Let us begin!!
I was told that I am of Indian & black decent, so my melanin is kind of off.  I will often see people with darker skin/ lighter skin tone than me and it’s all smooth and flawless. I am talking about no marks, no scars, no acne, and no spots-just simple silk skin. I must admit I got jealous and I looked at myself in the mirror and wondered “I’m black, I mean I think my family has good genic, so why the hell is my skin not as smooth as other darker skin people? I started talking about this with my friend and she kept talking about all these natural treatment that is good for black skin. She mentioned making different mixtures of eggs, honey, sugar, yogurt blah blah. While she is talking, in my head I was wondering, why she is telling me to put all that food on my face? And to make matters worse her ingredients were more or less sticky!!! Yack!! Who would want that on their face? Not me or so I thought.
The following week after our discussion, I started checking out some YouTube videos about the lemon and sugar scrub as I want so badly to get rid of the spots left on my face from acne. I wanted to lighten the area where the spots are without the use of manufacture bleaching products.
After looking at the video on YouTube I decided that I will try this putting food on my face business, let us see if it will help me with the spots in my face. Later on that day, I conjured up a mixture of sugar, and lemon. I was aware that normally once you start using a new product on your face that it will take a few weeks for your skin to adapt to the product.  Before my first application, I rinsed my face with some warm water then started scrubbing my face with the sugar and lemon mixture.  The sugar was a bit rough on first contact but after about a minute I notice that it was dissolving at a very rapid rate, but it did the job. After about 2 minutes of scrubbing- I did not like the feeling at all but I was committed because I wanted these spots gone!! - my skin could not take it no more so I took my face rag moist from lukewarm water I selected the darkest spot on my face as an indicator- this was my way of measuring the results of my new endeavour.  I notice after about two weeks, my reference spot started to light up a slowly, however as expected my face was not used to the products so I started having a break out!!! Like WTF this was counterproductive!!! -even though it was expected I was kind of hopping that it did not. This was the last thing I needed! Euh
Anyway I swear my girl is like a wise for black skin care! Once again we got caught up in discussion and we are talking about my face treatment. I explained how irritated it was scrubbing my face with the sugar and also how the sugar in the lemon juice dissolved way to face so it did not allow me to scrub my face properly. My girl then suggested that I add coconut oil and honey next time. Jackpot!! Everything was already in my cupboard. Back to the drawing board I go!
So now I’m in the bathroom with sugar, honey, lemon and coconut oil. I pour the sugar in then added then honey (this prevent the sugar from dissolving rapidly and also helps to lock moisture in you skin), then I added the coconut oil for moisture and then a bit of lemon juice for the natural bleaching of the black spots (stir properly to properly distribute mixture). I cleaned my face once again with lukewarm water and then started scrubbing. The sugar was still rough on my skin. I then rinsed my face and moisture with Lubriderm lotion- probably wasn’t the best choice but that all I had.
So far I must say that I have seen amazing result I wish I had a picture of my face before I started but I only decided to document it today and I’m already two weeks into my treatment.
Keep reading to see how this plays out and I will be uploading some pic of my face later on tonight.

Hinights- immigrant chronicles
I left my home country for Montreal when I was 16 years old. I must say I was excited because 1. AlI my 16 years on the island seemed like it was all leading up to the day when I would say good bye to this life and start something new- a fresh start. I knew this because my mother was installed permanently in Montreal, so it was only a matter of time that my brother, sister and I would join her. There is no need to mention my dad at this point as he was merely a shit talker. Here I was at 16 years old undertaking a journey with no knowledge of what to expect or what will become of me. The only thing my mother drilled into my head was to "learn French"... She would say "learn French because you will need it once you move here" - these were the words that resonated in the back of my head- I eventually took some extra French class along with my French class in high school. Anyway, the time come and Montreal Quebec became my place of residence and it was a culture shock. Suddenly, my action, my accent, my belief and my vocabulary became incomprehensible and adaptation was mandatory. ........................... TO BE CONTINUED
