I also just learned a real funny one just today:
When people say „Good at reading facial expression and/or body language“ I always thought „yeah! I am really good at that so I cannot be autistic.“
Turns out they didn’t mean „reading social cues by analyzing the situation and puzzling it together like a giant jigsaw puzzle to come to a conclusion.“ but they meant „intuitively“.
I always thought reading social cues was super fun, because it was a game to me and I was really really quick and good at it.
When I was younger and researching the autism diagnosis criteria and symptoms, I thought “oh I couldn’t POSSIBLY be autistic.” Because when I read “takes everything literally” I thought it literally meant EVERYTHING and I was like “I don’t take EVERYTHING literally, just most things!” And I just realized the other day that it didn’t actually mean EVERYTHING and that was an overstatement.

✧ Season 1, episode 2 - Spellingg Bee: Shawn is run off the road by a van and wakes up in the hospital after crashing his motorcycle.
✧ Season 2, episode 3 - Psy vs. Psy: Shawn exposes a criminal and is taken hostage with a gun pressed to his temple.
✧ Season 2, episode 9 - Bounty Hunters!: Shawn enters a popular biker club, gets threatened and hung upside down, suspended through heavy chains wrapped around his feet.
✧ Season 3, episode 11 - Lassie Did a Bad, Bad Thing: Shawn gets knocked unconscious, kidnapped, pistol whipped and threatened by Drimmer, a former cop who's holding him hostage.
✧ Season 3, episode 16 - An Evening With Mr. Yang: A serial killer toys with Shawn and targets civilians, then his loved ones; especially his mother, who's tied to a bomb. Shawn identifies the killer and talks to her while she's constantly toying with the detonator. Extremely strong psychological and emotional whump.
✧ Season 4 episode 9 - Shawn Takes A Shot In The Dark: Shawn gets shot in the shoulder, kidnapped in a car's trunk and flees through a dark forest, only to seek help from someone who turns out to be his kidnapper's partner. He gets knocked unconscious, tied to a chair, threatened with a gun pressed to his temple and throat multiple times and listens to his kidnappers talking about killing him. As Lassiter and his father arrive to search for him, he's being choked and therefore forced to stay quiet to not alert them of his presence. He also mentions that he "can say without a doubt this is the most pain he's ever been in in his life", referring to the bullet wound. There's relatively much visible blood.
✧ Season 4, episode 16 - Mr. Yin Presents...: Shawn gets targeted by another serial killer, who kidnaps his girlfriend and Juliet, his crush and coworker. He gets told he has to choose and one of them will die. Shawn blames himself a lot for what's happening; again, lots of emotional whump.
✧ Season 5, episode 8 - Ferry Tale: Shawn is taken hostage on a boat, threatened, manhandled and gets a kick to the face because he didn't shut up. Later, he's tied up with tape while criminals threaten to kill him.
✧ Season 5, episode 16 - Yang 3 in 2D: Shawn's tied to a chair and has to watch as Mr. Yin almost murders Gus through injections with a needle.
✧ Season 6, episode 10 - Indiana Shawn & The Temple of the Kinda Crappy, Rusty Old Dagger: Shawn deals with loss and also gets threatened with a knife pressed to his cheek and throat.
✧ Season 6, episode 13 - Let's Doo-Wop It Again: Shawn collapses on stage and is brought to the hospital, where his appendix gets removed. Later on, he's forced to give false information to the Police with a gun pressed to his temple.
✧ Season 6, episode 16 - SantaBarbaratown: Since Shawn won't stop working on a case when told to, a mysterious criminal threatens to hurt Juliet. Then, Shawn gets threatened with a knife to the throat in a dark alley and punched. There's a visible bruise left.
✧ Season 7, episode 1 - SantaBarbaratown 2: After Henry gets shot, Shawn is devastated. He hasn't slept for at least 36h and breaks into the criminal's house, destroys his furniture, then goes wild at a shooting range and shoots at some more furniture. He also breaks multiple windows in. Then, he's sitting on a mine that'd explode if he stood up again. He also threatens said criminal with a gun and, in return, gets a gun pressed to his neck.
✧ Season 7, episode 8 - Right Turn or Left for Dead: Shawn has a light concussion and a bruise, his shirt has blood on it and he's in an overall bad condition, emotionally and physically. He also gets stabbed in the shoulder and almost run over two times.
✧ Season 7, episode 16 - Psych: The Musical: Shawn gets hanged and falls to the ground after the rope holding him up by the neck is cut. (I'm not sure how he survived that, to be honest.)

Henry is such a controlling father, it’s unbelievable what he put Shawn through.
Shawn with his eidetic memory remembers everything that his father has ever said and done to him and I am surprised they’re even on speaking terms.
Oh so you’re just giving me more reasons to hate you Henry…

Rewatching this as an adult I love Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster even more.
This show was so fantastic in every way
Psych is amazing and I love it.
I'm also lowkey glad to see people wanting to fight Henry Spencer. He gets better as the show goes on, but a lot of his relationship with Shawn felt more like "You need to stay in contact! You're family!"
Also glad people love Gus. Fuck yeah, Bruton Gaster.
