I saw a comment by someone on reddit who said they no longer comment on any fanfiction because of the risk of it being AI and ... that just seems like such a cop out to me, not to mention incredibly cruel to authors.

Please please please do not stop commenting on all fics or interacting with authors because you are worried about things being AI. The risk is slim, and the damage you do to authors by doing this is awful.

Writers put so much effort into their fics. For people to openly admit they still read and consume these fics, but choose not to comment on anything because of the possibility of someone using AI for their writing is incredibly selfish. You're punishing authors by doing this. You're not being moral or helpful or crusading for any useful cause - you're just hurting authors.

Ironically, by doing this, you're actually more likely to cause authors to stop writing (silence does this), and people who can't write will fill the gaps left by creating AI writing - so you're making the problem worse, not helping anyone.

If you want to support authors and writers, then SUPPORT them! Reblog work and send authors asks, leave comments and kudos, and above all don't punish people with silence.

This poll is mostly for those who really don't reblog much at all, if ever! Please still feel free to interact/vote of course! Just a heads up that again, this post isn't to make anyone feel like shit! I completely understand there are many many circumstances where people might not reblog!

Acceptable = "hey just letting y'all know [thing]"/ "woo tired today haha"/something else random that op obviously doesn't mind only their followers seeing, but might like to know that people have seen it

Which answer did you pick?

Doesn't fit: You can make side blogs! You can make as many as you want!! If you want followers on them, just be sure to do some simple tags (art, [fandom tag], writing, etc) so Tumblr knows who to promote you to! You'll also gain followers naturally by reblogging people's posts! They'll see you enjoy the same things and want to see you on their dash! Just liking a post doesn't do this, because people assume they won't see anything new on their dash by following you (edit: also your blog is your own!! Many many many people have all over the place type of blogs! Don't feel like you absolutely must stick to a theme!)

Shy: creators adore seeing you in their notes, people joke about their notes being a mess with a 20k+ note post, but the truth is it's a delight to see someone spam notes going back through your blog!! Don't be shy!!! If it's tagging that intimidates you then don't do it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ after being around awhile you'll learn how pretty quickly, but if you'd rather not that's fine too

How is it different?: Liking on other sites means the algorithms on those sites will push the post to more people. Liking here does legitimately nothing (expect maybe push the post higher in the tag, but not usually) liking here is nothing but a bookmark. If you've seen a post before and liked it, that little heart will stay filled in forever....that's it! You need to reblog things for them to get literally any exposure here. "Oh but I have so few followers?" as I said above, reblogging things is how you get followers (and mutuals ☺️) here!! And even one extra set of eyes on a post can make all the difference!

Never reblog: You look like a bot, you're probably getting blocked a lot without knowing why. Please make your blog look human! (Edit: I mean if you have an empty blog btw! If your blog is only for original posts ofc you don't look like a bot)

Acceptable: this is fine, we all do this

Likes are unhidden: that's not how this site works. Virtually no one is deviating from their dash to come see one particular person's likes page. And, as stated above, you look like a bot :/

Other: let me know please!! Like I said this is a teaching tool! For you and me lol I want to know why the likes/reblog ratio is so terrible rn!!

The wonderful artists, writers, gif makers, comedy post makers, etc on this website deserve more than just knowing you saw their posts! They deserve to have their hard work seen by as many people as possible!!! Please reblog a post if you enjoyed seeing it!!! Thank you for reading this far 😄
