CHAPTER TWO
You pressed your hands against your eyes, trying to take away the sleepiness from them. You had been sleeping so deeply it took you some time to truly come back to reality and take in the situation. You watched as Sawol slammed the door shut, quickly running to the front of the truck. You could barely see him through the violence of the storm, but the low beam helped cut his silhouette from the dark. You squinted your eyes, trying to see what had made him come to a stop, that’s when you spotted the supposed dead body laying on the ground.
You felt your chest tighten with fear.
‘’It’s a trap!’’ you screamed at Sawol even though he couldn’t hear you.
The fear took your sleepiness away in an instant. You opened your glove box, grabbed your handgun as fast as you could and quickly threw yourself out of the truck without even taking the time to put on your mask. The panic rushing through your veins barely made you feel the heavy landing your ankles endured. The visibility was horrible, and you cursed yourself for forgetting to at least grab your goggles. The sand was violently slashing at your face, your eyes were burning, uncontrollable tears flying down your cheeks, but you kept running until you could reach Sawol. He had disappeared into the thickness of the storm.
A scream resonated not too far away, your grip on your gun tightened as you raised it in the direction of the noise. Worry was crushing your chest, you felt so close to throwing up. That scream sounded too much like Sawol. Taking a few careful steps towards the scream, you suddenly saw a few shadows appearing through the thickness of the storm.  They seemed to be fighting and it seemed to be five against one, five hunters against your friend. Your running came to a sudden stop when you saw the lone shadow get hit and fall to the ground.
‘’SAWOL!’’ you screamed, afraid of the worse.
The hunters’s shadow turned in your direction at your shout, but you were already raising your weapon and firing away at them, rage disrupting your usually soft traits. It didn’t take you long to take care of the five shadows, watching them fall rapidly one after the other each time you shot. You had always been an incredible shot, that was your strength. Being a delivery woman, you knew you needed more than to know how to fight with your fist to survive. You were strong, yes, but there would always be a bigger enemy and that’s why you trained more than anyone with every weapon available to you, and guns were your choice of preference, always.
After observing the lack of movements from the downed hunters, you rushed to Sawol’s immobile body.
You fell to your knees next to him and held his head, calling his name repeatedly. His lack of response was worrying, but after looking for a pulse, you felt your entire body relax with relief. He wasn’t dead, only unconscious. You searched for his wounds, only to find the back of his head bleeding. If he hadn't been a mutant, you would’ve been extremely scared, but having already survived being shot in the head, you felt safe to assume he would be more than fine.
Taking a deep breath, you grabbed a hold of him and tried to lift him. He was truly heavy and it took you a lot of effort to get yourself as straight as possible. You slowly carried him back to the truck, taking a painful amount of time, as you breathed heavily from the effort it was taking you. Inhaling an insane amount of dust by doing so.
Getting Sawol’s unconscious body back in the truck took you an awful amount of time. By the time you were done, you could barely breathe. You hadn’t had any clean oxygen in too long, mixed in with the dust, you felt like your lungs were on fire. You weren’t really aware of how you made it back to the hangar, feeling on the verge of passing out any seconds, you uncontrollable fits of cough probably being the only thing keeping you awake.
As soon as you stopped the truck, you kicked your door open, but couldn’t control your loss of balance due to your weakness and crashed hard on the concrete floor. Your vision was blurry, you felt your name being screamed and strong arms wrapping themself around you. You grabbed onto their shirt, coughing loudly, managing to breath out Sawol’s name before passing out.
- - - - -
5-8’s eyes widened as he caught your truck rushing through the hangar dangerously fast. You brusquely came to halt a few meters from where he had been supposedly cleaning his truck for the last hour, looking for an excuse to wait for your arrival with Sawol.
Curious of your panicked entrance, 5-8 felt his worry raise. He started walking in your truck’s direction, only to see you falling from your seat and hitting the floor heavily. Panicked, 5-8 ran to your side, yelling your name. He grabbed onto you, lifting your head to face his. The man felt his heart drop at the sight of your wounded face. Your eyes were bloodshot and quite literally crying tears of blood. Your whole face was full of open wounds from the sand slashing at your face, blood bleeding out of your nose as well as surrounding your mouth from all the heavy coughing you had gone through.
‘’Y/N… Y/N can you hear me?’’
You didn’t answer him immediately and tried, unsuccessfully, to focus your eyes on him.
‘’Sawol..’’
5-8 had barely heard you by how hoarse your voice sounded, but still understood. He blinked in confusion, suddenly realizing he had forgotten about his young protege at your pitiful sight, he gave a quick glance around him, seeing a few delivery men rushing over.
‘’Kid’s still in the truck, take him to the infirmary.’’ he instructed them.
They nodded and rushed to Sawol’s side. 5-8 turned his attention back to you, feeling his heart drop when he realized you had fully closed your eyes and looked unconscious.
“Y/N..? Y/N wake up!”
Tightening his hold around your shoulders, he placed his free arm under your legs and picked you up. 5-8 carefully made his way to the infirmary, keeping a strong hold on you. Your head was pressed against his chest, directly above his heart, making it resonate even louder inside of him.
A painful moan escaped your lips, you seemed to have gained consciousness again but hadn’t opened your eyes yet. 5-8 was honestly wondering if the loud beating of his heart woke you up. He looked down at you, your face distorted by pain. 5-8 bit his lips and started walking a little faster than before.
‘’Lay her there.’’  4-1 ordered him as he entered the small infirmary.
He slowly laid you down on a cold metallic table, making sure to carefully put your head down on it. 5-8 barely realized his hands lingering on you, until 4-1 pushed him aside, resulting in a strange coldness on his fingers, already missing the warmth of your touch. He stumbled backwards, anxious by his own inability to be of any help in your recovery. He stared silently at you while 4-1 slid an oxygen mask on your face. A sudden coughing fit took you, making you sit up. 5-8 took a few shy steps towards you, wanting to help, but 4-1 just pushed him out of the room.
‘’Your staring is annoying and you're in the way, make yourself busy elsewhere. ’’ she said harshly but with a glint of warmth in your eyes. ‘’She’ll be fine.’’
She slammed the door right in front of him, leaving 5-8 feeling extremely confused. He blinked a few times, trying to get his thoughts back in order, and slowly walked back to your truck. The only thing he seemed to be able to do to help in the moment was taking care of your truck. He climbed in and moved it into your designated parking lot.
Even after being done, 5-8 couldn't seem to be able to remove his hands from the steering wheel. He was gripping it tightly, looking straight into the void in front of him, completely lost in his thoughts.
What had just happened?
He gripped his shirt, feeling his blood pumping strongly.
What were those feelings? 5-8 had always been so calm, had always managed to keep a stable grip on his emotions, keeping him in constant control of his actions. But when he saw you falling off your truck, your face crimson red from all the blood, he just lost it. He didn’t even think of Sawol until you called his name and felt ashamed at the realization.
There was one thing 5-8 truly hated, and it was to lose his ability to control himself, unconsciously, he had always been aware of your ability to make him lose his calm, and he hated it. This was the main reason why he found you so annoying, why he never wanted to talk or even think about you. This was the foundation of his hatred for you. But he would never admit it, nor what those kinds of feelings might actually mean. 5-8 closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He chased away his thoughts, not enjoying the rush of uncontrollable feelings it brought him and, and regained his usual emotionless state of mind.
As he opened the door, ready to jump down the truck, his eyes caught on your notes, safely tucked in the door’s net holder.
Without thinking, 5-8 reached for it, not able to resist the temptation. He opened it carefully, as if it was a precious relic and observed every page, one after the other, without being able to stop himself even though guilt logged itself in his stomach. His curiosity was way stronger. He had dreamed of laying eyes on those notes ever since Sawol had told him about your research.
5-8 couldn’t believe it, he honestly didn’t know what to think of it. Not really knowing what to do, he closed your notes, putting them back to where they belong. Still in shock, he mindlessly walked back to the infirmary.
His fingers slid across the pages full of charcoal. He liked the feeling, it was rougher than the pages of the books he had scavenged over the years, the paper of your notes were thicker, they felt nice under his touch. He truly understood why you cared so much about this book, yes it was your notes, it was months of your for you, but the book in itself was an antiquity, a precious treasure of forgotten times. Everything was screens now, they didn’t produce paper anymore, and when your pages would be filled, you’d have to look for a new one yourself.
5-8 didn’t know how long he stared at it, flipping through each page one by one. He read every note you wrote, admiring how detailed you were, calculating the percentage of pollution and warmth produced by the sun. He found himself enjoying the small doodles you had made all around. At first they were mostly your equipment and probably the landscape around the rooftop you went to. But then he saw some portraits here and there, mostly you Sawol, which made him smile. Sawol smiling brightly or sleeping on the ground. There were some other delivery men as well as sketches of trucks and some decent looking places in the hangar. When he reached an empty page, 5-8 unconsciously flipped through the rest of the book, making sure he didn’t miss anything else. He stopped himself near the end of your notes seeing a few pages darkened by the brush of your pencil.
He felt his heart skip a beat as he opened the first page filled with drawings hiding at the end of your book. They were all drawings of him, pages filled with frozen moments of his life. He admired himself, painted with a smile on his face, saw himself boxing with a punching bag, cleaning his truck, giving instructions during some of their secret meetings. Many of the drawings were just of his face in many expressions. 5-8 felt warm, incredibly warm. He had difficulty breathing and tried unzipping the top of his vest, barely succeeding from how much his hands were shaking. He had completely forgotten about any precious thoughts of changing the weird feelings he felt towards you into hatred and annoyance. All he could think about right now was his heart beating so loudly he thought it might explode, and the fact that you had been watching him, drawing him.
- - - - -
Painkillers numbed every part in your body, you didn’t feel much of anything anymore, except for the burning of your eyes and your throat. 4-1 had left some time ago, saying you were fine, but that the sand had irritated your mouth, nose and eyes until they bled, and that your lack of clean oxygen was probably what had made you pass out in the end. There wasn’t much else she could do to help you, only time could heal your wounds now. You had been relieved when she told you Sawol was fine, that he had only passed out from the hit he had received behind the head, but that he’d probably wake up soon. She then had left you alone in the room with his sleeping body.
You climbed down the table slowly, your head throbbing from pain, and made your way next to Sawol, grabbing a chair and placing it next to his bed. You sat there a while, holding his hand and waiting.
The infirmary door suddenly opened behind you, making you jump in surprise. Hand pressed against your chest, you took a deep breath when you saw 5-8 standing in the doorway. He had scared the hell out of you. He raised an eyebrow at you, in a quiet request to come in. You nodded in response, not really surprised that 5-8 had come back, he was probably worried about Sawol.
But you didn’t feel ready to face the man, not when the memory of his strong arms holding and carefully bringing you to the infirmary filled your mind. After seeing him again, your thoughts were uncontrollably filled with him, you remembered his warmth and the feeling of his heart beating against your head.
The more you thought about it, and the more what 4-1 had told you sounded wrong. You hadn’t passed out from the lack of clean oxygen, you had passed from being in 5-8’s arms. Feeling the blood rushing to your cheeks, you turned your attention back to the sleeping beauty next to you, hiding your flustered expression to the man entering the room.
You watched from the corner of your sight as 5-8 walked around Sawol’s table until he stopped near his head. You watched silently as he delicately placed his hand at the top of Sawol’s head and gently caressed his hair.
“How is he?”
Your heart skipped a beat upon hearing his deep voice. You lifted your eyes to meet him, but when you opened your mouth to answer him, no sound came out of it, only a hoarse attempt to work ‘’Fine’’. You coughed loudly, and 5-8 quickly interrupted you before you could try again.
“Rest your voice, it’s fine.’’ he reassured you. ‘’It’s probably gonna take a lot more than whatever happened to kill this kid.’’
You felt a chuckle attempting to escape your lips, only to come out as another set of coughs. You groaned, face twisted with pain.
5-8 brows furrowed as he looked at you, an unusual warmth in his eyes.
‘’Sorry…’’ he smiled softly.
Your eyes widened at the sight, was he smiling… at you?
Feeling your heart beating furiously, you didn’t know what to do nor where to look to try and hide your reddening face. You didn’t know how to deal with this, was he kind to you only because of your state at the moment? This was unusual. You know how to deal with his annoying remarks, you were good at feeling annoyed at him as soon as he addressed you. You were also extremely good at observing him from afar, since the man was annoyingly handsome and quite satisfying to draw. But the moments of calm and joy you observed from him were usually not directed towards you and you didn’t have to deal with that heartstopper of a smile, not like you did at the moment. And you couldn’t help but love the way he softly smiled at you, eyes sparkling with something you couldn’t identify. And you couldn’t help yourself but hope he’d smile at you again and again and again…
You shook your head, trying desperately to chase away  the flush of your cheeks and come back to reality. 5-8 was looking at Sawol, he seemed lost in thoughts as well. You cleared your throat, trying to ignore the pain of doing so.
‘’I… I’m sorry.’’
You knew those words were yours, but they were said in a voice far from yours, it was strange hearing yourself talk like this, and it definitely did not feel good. 5-8 looked at you confused, the expression on his face clearly asking you for more details.
‘’I-it’s my fau-fault he got hurt. I sh-should’ve be-’’
‘’Stop it…’’ he interrupted you more harshly than he would’ve wanted. ‘’You need to rest your throat.’’
You frowned, wanting to explain yourself, but he continued, surprising you with the softness of his words.
‘’Plus, Sawol is a grown man and a certified Delivery man, he’s more than able to defend himself. It could’ve happen to anyone.’’
5-8 stood up before you could even try to add anything else.  He silently walked to the door, your eyes following him with every step. He opened the door, ready to leave, but stopped himself in his tracks and locked back at you from above his shoulder.
‘’Take some few days off, you need some rest.’’
You felt your heart burst into your chest as you watched him rapidly exit the room. you could swear you had seen some colors on his face.
A/N : I really enjoyed writing this chapter, some feelings are starting to show up! Hoping to see you for the next one. Much love!

Bright Sun Chapter One
5-8 x Reader
Summary Sawol is tired of seeing the two of you fight over everything and hate each other, but for better or for worst, a traumatic event might be what was needed to bring 5-8 and you closer to each other. Warnings : Slow burn, Ansgt, Hurt, Possible death Words : 4K Notes :
A/N: Haven't wrote anything in a while, but after watching Black Knight (Because Woo Bin is my god ever since School 2013) and absolutely falling with his character, I looked for fanfics and was disappointed by the small amount. So here I am trying to help some other lost souls like me. I really hope you enjoy! - - - - - CHAPTER ONE
The sky was getting clearer by the day, the sun beaming through fewer and fewer clouds as time passed. Sawol opened his window, pulling his arms on the edge to press his face against the grid and take his head out in the wind. He had started doing this every time 5-8 would light himself a cigarette, not really enjoying the smell of it, but truly loving the feeling of the caress of the wind on his face.
Even after they had stopped Cheonmyeong trucks from polluting the air, you still couldn't survive outside for more than twenty minutes without a mask. It was no surprise, it would probably take decades for them to be able to roam the earth free of a mask, if ever. But twenty minutes was no small feat compared to the eight minutes it used to be.
Sawol took a deep breath, even polluted, the fresh air tasted much better than the filtered one he was used to.
“It smells so good.” He whispered, taking in another full breath.
“Smells the same as always, polluted.”
Sawol turned to face the stoic man beside him, no expression showing on his face as he took one last inhale of his cigarette before exhaling and throwing it out of the truck's window. He then pressed on the switch, closing the windows with no pity for Sawol's arms that got pulled up with them.
He quickly regained his posture in his seat and faced his driver.
“Have you no joy in life except cigarettes?’’ Sawol asked, honestly curious.
5-8 gave him an empty glance before turning his attention back on the road. Knowing he wouldn't get any response, Sawol continued.
‘’Why can't you even enjoy the freshness of the air? You gave that to us!’’
5-8's mouth twitched with annoyance.
“I didn't give anything to anyone, I only took down the worm that was eating us alive.” He grunted in reference to Cheonmyeong.
“Fine.” Sawol pouted.
He folded his arms on his chest, his attention turned back to the road. It was quiet today like it had been for the past couple of days that he had gone on deliveries with 5-8. It had barely been a week since the event of Cheonmyeong's takedown and Sawol was still healing from the wounds he had gotten in the tournaments finals and the drugs that were administered to him. Well, that's the excuse he gave to everyone at the moment, not that it was a lie, his head was still killing him and he would feel some dizziness take over him from time to time, but in all honesty, he didn't feel quite ready to be on the road alone. He was scared to mess up and disappoint 5-8 on his first day.
Sawol shook his head to chase those thoughts away, he already had a solution, no time to dwell on that now.
“The sun..”
Sawol turned a confused look toward his friend, and raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to explain. 5-8 gave him a side eye and let out a long sigh.
“What brings me joy.’’ He continued in a low tone. ‘’ I like seeing the sun more and more every day.”
“Oh,” Sawol breathed out, remembering the question he had asked a few moments ago. A large grin grew across his face.
“What? You think it's more stupid than smelling the air like an idiot?” 5-8 teased him. ‘’At least I'm looking at something visible.”
Sawol took offense but didn't let his grin die. He turned in his seat to face the older man, who watched him from the corner of his vision, eyebrows raised in a quiet question as to why the younger one was smiling.
‘’Y/N and you are so much more alike than you think.’’
5-8 rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed upon hearing this, he let out an incomprehensible mumble, the grip on his steering wheel tightening. Sawol laughed at the sight of such visible emotion from the usual oh-so-unnothered legend.
‘’I can’t be as annoying as 6-2, that's for sure.’’
‘’I don’t care what you think or whatever quarrel there is between you too, it’s still true. You two are the same.’’
5-8 gave him a tired look and went back to concentrate on the road. Sawol was annoyed, his grin long gone. He lifted his legs, and feet on the seat and hugged his knees, resting his chin on them as he quietly watched the view from his window. Turned his back on 5-8, giving him the silent treatment. He hated the constant bickering going on between those two. Right after 5-8, Y/N was his closest friend. She was always there the whole time of his training when he was preparing to compete in the delivery man recruitment tournaments. She gave him amazing advice, trained him to fight, to drive better, and even helped him learn a few manners, not that he really listened during those sessions but still! She took care of him, brought him food when he forgot to eat by training for too long, she even took him to her place a few times so they could hang out, but mostly so she could be sure he rested well enough for him to heal and be ready for the next day. She took care of him like a big sister while his wasn’t available, and he loved her like family. Sawol let out a sad sigh, what in the world did he do to deserve that his two favorite people have a pure hatred towards each other? He never knew where those mutual feelings came from, not that he didn’t ask, that he did and many times. But he had never gotten a different answer then;
‘’She’s annoying’’ ‘’He’s annoying.’’
Their similarity used to make Sawol laugh about the situation, he remembered telling them that hating the other was pretty much like hating themself, but he only had reserved cold glances in return. Now, Sawol was just annoyed by it, desperate that their relationship would change for them to at least bear each other, enough that he could talk about the other without being ignored or interrupted by an insult.
The mutant closed his eyes, his head was starting to hurt.
- - - -
5-8 sent him a few glances, feeling slightly bad to make the younger one upset. He knew 6-2 was a sensitive subject with Sawol, he adored her so much. 5-8 used to wonder why, being such an annoying person as she was, but after hearing so many things she did for the youngster, he did at least understand and respect that fact. But it wouldn’t change the pure annoyance he felt towards her. 5-8 wasn’t used to feelings much, to him, his feelings were more of an observation than an experience. He did feel happiness, but he wouldn’t really laugh. He did feel sadness, but he wouldn’t cry. He never really felt deeply, with the exception of his hatred for Cheonmyeong… and his annoyance for 6-2. This woman could make him boil with anger sometimes, everything related to her, he would feel it times 10, and he hated it.
5-8 let out a sigh, he untightened his grip on the steering wheel and looked at Sawol. Sawol made him feel too, like the younger brother 5-8 never had. He cared deeply for him, more than he would admit, and he hated to see him upset, especially when it was against him.
‘’Why?’’ 5-8 resigned and asked. The youngest didn’t even open his eyes as he asked;
‘’Why what?’’
‘’Why do you think we’re so alike?’’ 5-8 gritted his teeth. ‘’Me and the annoying one.’’
Sawol jumped on his seat, eyes widened in surprise. He couldn’t believe what he had just been asked.
‘’W-what did you?’’
5-8 was starting to get annoyed, he didn’t even want to talk about it. He just felt bad for the kid and he was tired of the silence, he was used to no silence at all when Sawol was around, and he liked it this way. The man let out a grunt, looking back at the road.
Probably scared that this chance would never come again, Sawol decided to answer without forcing the grumpy man to repeat himself. He sat back comfortably in his seat, a soft smile stretching his lips.
‘’It’s what you said about the sun.’’
5-8 blinked in confusion, he glanced at Sawol as if pressing him to continue. He couldn’t help but be curious, no one really seemed to care about the sun except for him.
‘’Y/N, I mean 6-2 to you,’’ He let out a small chuckle before continuing. ‘’She showed me her tools and her notes, you’d love it, you know? She goes to one of the tall buildings in the old city. The same roof at the same time every day. When the sun is at its zenith, she said that’s when you can enjoy its warmth the most. She takes notes about it, some kind of research she told me. She notes the warmth and the brightness of the sun, and its color too. She notes the amount of clouds in the sky and the purity of the air. She showed me some of her tools, but it was honestly too complicated for me. I saw some drawings in her notes too, she’s really good… Anyways, you guys both love the sun. That’s what I meant.’’
5-8 didn’t really know what to think, he would love to see your notes and the tools you used, but he would never admit it to anyone, especially not to you or that traitor Sawol, who he knew would rat him out.
He was honestly surprised to learn you had such an interest in the evolution of the clarity of the sky as he did. He always thought he was the only one obsessed with seeing how bright the star could be without being filtered by the clouds and the heaviness of the air. He wished he could come to feel the warmth of the sun with you... 5-8 ignored the excitement that took his heart, curious about something else.
‘’How does she manage to make her delivery on time?’’
“Ah..’’ Sawol let out, itching the back of his head from embarrassment. ‘’She doesn’t really take any break.. and often works overtime.’’
5-8 raised an eyebrow at the confession, no breaks meant no lunch, and overtime meant less rest. Both of which meant a dangerous accumulation of fatigue that could prove mortal if she was ever attacked. Hunters were still pretty active in the area, and even though things were getting better, some of them just loved the thrill of the hunt and the killings... If you kept going like this, something bad was bound to happen.
‘’Don’t encourage her.’’ He heard himself say. ‘’Late deliveries give us a bad reputation.’’
That was half true and 5-8 knew it, yes he didn’t approve of late deliveries, but in all honesty, he felt a little worried. He might find you incredibly annoying, but you were still a fellow delivery man, and Sawol truly cared about you. 5-8 did not want anything bad to happen. Sawol snorted at the comment.’’
‘’Pfff, Mr.Perfect. You’re the only one that's never late. ‘’
- - - - -
You let out a grunt, lifting your head slowly. You felt your forehead with the tip of your fingers, feeling the crease the steering wheel had left on your skin. You dozed off again… It wasn’t the first time, and you were quite unhappy with your sleeping self to find the hard steering wheel so comfortable since it left you with a quite visible mark that took hours to disappear completely.
A throbbing headache attacked you as you opened your eyes, the light of the hangar too powerful for your exhausted self. After a tired sigh, you grabbed your cap and pushed it as low as possible. Today had been pretty rushing and you felt on the brink of collapsing. You unlocked your door and kicked it open, grabbing your notes at the same time. You climbed down off your truck carefully, contrary to your usual jumping to the ground. You barely had time to slam the door shut when you heard your name being screamed from behind. You quickly turned, just in time for Sawol to jump in your arms. Thankfully, your truck was there to catch you when you fell backward, having received a running mutant straight to the chest.
A painful complaint escaped your lips, the hard metal hadn’t been gentle with your back. Sawol quickly took a step back, grabbing your shoulders and giving you a worried look.
‘’Are you alright?’’ he asked, his face twisted with guilt. ‘’I’m so sorry I shouldn't have jumped on you like that.
You gave him a comforting smile as you gained back your balance.
‘’Don’t worry about it kid,’’ you said, shuffling his hair to tease him. ‘’You’re just heavier than it looks!’’
Sawol laughed, taking a few steps back to let you breathe a little. You watched him as he tried fixing his hair, he was smiling, but his eyes still seemed worried. You knew it was probably more about how tired you looked than from the hit you took. You felt a tightness in your chest, not liking that look on his face. You took all the energy you had left to jump back on him, locking your arm around his neck and messing his hair even more with your free hand.
‘’Revenge!’’
‘’Yah! Let me go!’’
Sawol fought you back but weakened by your laughter and your exhaustion, it didn’t take him long to free himself. With a fake angry look on his face, Sawol tried fixing his hair once again. You let your arm rest on his shoulder, heavier than you would’ve wanted, but the young man didn’t complain, and gladly let you subtly use him as support without having to ask. When he gave up on his messy hair, he smiled at you fondly.
‘’Don’t work tomorrow.’’ he whispered to you.
You hummed, not sure if you agreed or not.
‘’I’ll be fine.’’
Sawol let out an exasperated sigh, it made you feel more guilty than you thought.
‘’If you come with me..’’ you quickly added.
Sawol’s eye widened and he gave you the brightest of smiles.
‘’Of course!’’ he shouted happily.
A soft chuckle escaped your lips as you looked at the young man. You tried your best to observe his beautiful features glowing with happiness, it would make a nice drawing for later.
At the thought of it, your smile dropped. Anxious, you patted your pockets and looked around on the grounds, searching for your notes. When you finally spotted them a few feet away, you felt your heart stop as a hand was already reaching for them. you took a step in their direction but quickly stopped when you lifted your eyes only to be met by the dead look on 5-8’s face.
‘’You dropped this.’’ he simply said, handing you back your notes.
Your hand reached out to it, and you took hold of your notes, brushing your fingers with his by accident. You quickly retracted your hand, pressing the notes against your racing heart. You never liked it when someone touched your notes, except for Sawol which you cared for like a little brother. But the discovery of the notes and research you were doing would’ve been enough of a reason to get you killed when Cheonmyeong was still in power, making you used to keep them hidden. The bastards might not be in power anymore but you had kept the habit of keeping your research to yourself. The fact that you had some random sketches mixed with them also played into this, some of them private enough that you tried to keep them hidden even from Sawol… And even more to one of the most annoying men on earth, you wanted to keep them away, especially from him.
Still feeling the warmth of his skin on the tip of your fingers, you quietly thanked him. you tried not to think of the abnormal beating of your heart, concentrating on the fact that you now needed to wash your hands from having touched his annoying self.
5-8 eyes lingered on your small figure, his face void of expression. You suddenly felt quite self-conscious, you cared more than you’d like to admit what the man might think of you, and you knew right now you were barely holding it together.
‘’You look like shit.’’
His deep voice surprised you, and your eyes widened feeling pretty hurt by his comment. You wish you had something clever to bask at him in return, but your usual witty self seemed absent, asleep deeply inside out. Thankfully, Sawol ran to your rescue.
‘’Even on her worst day Y/N will always look better than you!’’
5-8 snorted at his comment, an amused look in his eyes as they never left your sight. You couldn't help but blush under his intense look. You were happy your cap was helping you hide a little bit of your flustered face. ‘’No one as handsome as you though,’’ you said breaking the awkward moment you felt stuck in. You pinched Sawol’s cheek, the smile you made appear on his face quickly leaving replaced by annoying and pain.
‘’Yah! I’m not a kid!’’ he screamed, hitting your hand so you let him be.
You let out a laugh and tapped his cheek playfully. Sawol pouted and caressed his reddened cheek with his hands.
‘’I’ll see you tomorrow, handsome,’’ you said before starting to leave, making sure to ignore 5-8 still standing close by.
- - - - -
The warmth of the sun on his face felt amazing, he had taken off his mask to appreciate it to the fullest. He felt at ease, thinking that this must be what paradise feels like. Sawol took in a deep breath, but before he had the chance to exhale naturally, he received a strong punch in the stomach, making him lose all his oxygen. He sat up in a jolt, caught by an uncontrollable coughing fit.
‘’Yah!’’ he spat between two cough.’’You wanna kill me or what?’’
Sawol barely had time to catch the mask you threw him before it would hit him in the face.
‘’Come on,’’ you laughed. ‘’Time’s up.’’
The two of you slowly packed your things back in the backpack you used to carry your tools and made your way back to the ground level, 30 flights of stairs below. No wonder you were so in shape, Sawol thought.
Reaching the floor level, Sawol took care of moving the big wooden wall you always put up to hide the entrance of the building you used to hide your truck. It was mostly a bunch of tall broken windows, but they were fortunately big enough for the delivery truck to enter the building's lobby so it wouldn’t stay outside, exposed, and left alone for hunters to take advantage of.
After finishing to slide the barricade away from the door, Sawol was surprised to find you sitting on the passenger side of the truck. He quickly jogged up to your window, his heart racing with anticipation.
‘’Is this what I think it is?’’
You watched him jumping from one foot to the other, not being able to contain his excitement. ‘’Mm,’’ you hummed positively. ‘’Hop in Mr. Delivery Man.’’
A small joyful squeak escaped his lips before he ran up to the driver’s side and took his seat. Sawol felt his breath being taken away as he caressed the steering wheel with profound admiration. He couldn’t believe he was actually sitting on this side of the truck for the first time. He let his eyes wander, taking in as much as he could, but the multitude of buttons and switches changed his dreaming expression into a frown. He had no idea how to use any of these. Your laugh took him back to reality, and he sent you a sheepish look.
‘’Help…’’ he whispered shamefully.
You burst out laughing even harder at the pitiful sight he offered you, looking like a child in front of a new toy that he didn’t know how to use. When your laugh came close to an end, you pointed at a few of the commands. Sawol followed your finger, looking closely and listening to everything you said with more attention than he had ever given to anything before.
‘’That’s the radio to contact other delivery man, we have a common channel, but if you want to call someone privately, you have to enter their number here,’’ you explained, pointing at a num pad before turning to something else. ‘’Here’s the lights control, there’s the camera around the truck, and here’s the defense settings you can use.’’
Sawol kept listening intently until she was done showing him everything, he exhaled deeply, impressed.
‘’I would’ve never known any of this on my own! Thank you.’’ he smiled at her, eyes sparkling with joy.
‘’I remembered when you told me you didn’t feel ready to be left alone,’’ you said softly. ‘’Well you’re not alone, I’ll show you everything so you’re ready when the time comes.’’
Sawol felt his heart melt. He couldn’t help but wonder why 5-8 hated you so much when you were probably the most caring and gentle person he knew.
The day was still young and you had quite a few deliveries left to do. Sawol let you show him the rope for the first few, but he then forced you to wait in the truck so you could rest. It was clear to him that you were exhausted and you needed the rest. He couldn’t help but smile when he came back from a home delivery just to find you in a profound sleep, head resting against the window. Sawol took on him to continue the rest of your deliveries as quietly as possible so you could sleep as much as you needed. A few hours later, Sawol had just made the last delivery and he was driving back towards the hangar, feeling quite proud of himself for the successful day that had gone by. He felt immensely grateful that you had taken time to show him the ropes, and after today, he felt confident that he would be fine on his own, that he shouldn't have to be scared to disappoint 5-8 when he’d be given his own truck. Plus, he couldn’t help but feel reassured that you had slept for a few hours, you deeply needed the rest and he was sure today had been quite helpful in putting you back on your feet.
Sawol's glance wandered from the road to its surroundings, he was surprised when he spotted a sand storm racing straight towards them. It hit them a few seconds after he had seen it, making the visibility outside incredibly poor. Sawol couldn’t help a rush or anxiety take over him, but he didn’t panic, he knew the way to the hangar by heart, he didn’t need to see far in front or the GPS. They were gonna be fine, he thought, no need to wake you over this.
Sawol took his foot slightly off the gas pedal and opened his lower beam. He continued driving carefully, not wanting to hit anything. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until he saw a dark figure lying in the middle of the road. Sawol rapidly hit the brakes, waking you up from the sudden stop. He gave you a quick reassuring glance before putting his mask on.
‘’Stay inside,’’ he commanded. ‘’It’s probably nothing.’’

Also I would love to get everyone’s opinion: Would you like to see the itty bitty tiddy fic first or Jason BDSM?

It was an incredibly rare occasion for you to dress up. Between a less than casual home life, and a couple years spent as a field agent, the opportunity to try on a fancy dress did not arise often.
And so, as you twisted around in the garment, feeling the long, silky fabric brush against your legs, you couldn’t help but wrinkle your nose.
“I dunno, can I really fight in this?” you hummed, kicking your leg through the slit, and resisting the urge to pinch the fabric together more. As you tried to move around the room, you nearly tripped on the skirt, toeing it away from your path. How could something be so free-flowing and so restricting at the same time?
“The whole point of this disguise is so you don’t have to fight in this, you know,” Rachel hummed from behind you, adding some final adjustments along the back of the dress. As another figure entered the room, clad with a bag of hair and makeup supplies, you let a small grin overtake your features.
“I guess. At least I’m gonna look really hot tonight.”

''No.''
Jason vigorously shook his head to you. You watched him fail as he wiggled on his bed, trying to get up, just to end up falling back on the mattress, coughing.
You sighed, stepping closer to go sit on the chair next to his bed. When he was done coughing, Jason pointed his finger to your, a menacing look on his face.
''There's is absolutely no way I am letting you do that.'' He angrily said, his voice still raspy from all the coughing.
''And what are you gonna do, you can barely get out of bed.''
Jason couldn't disagree with you and he knew it. His anger faltering to the hard truth, he winced, his hand slowly falling on the bed. You grabbed it, making him jump at the sudden move. He stared at your hands around his, you wanted to bring him comfort and therefore tried to ignore the burning of his touch and the butterflies in your stomach.
''If I don't do anything, you'll die.''
His eyes flew right back to meet yours, but guilt quickly made him look away, a light pink blooming on his blemish cheeks. You loved seeing some colors on his face. Tightening your grip on his hand, you leaned in closer to him, a soft smile on your lips.
''Please.'' You pleaded.
Jason slowly turned his head back to you and sighed at your hopeful eyes.
''You really wanna do this?'' He let out.
You nodded. To be honest with yourself, you couldn't really understand why but had never felt so sure in a long time. You couldn't deny the intense pull you felt towards Jason, since the first moment you laid eyes on him. It wasn't because of him being incredibly handsome, or the crush that had grown just by talking with him. It did help, but it was when you first saw him, his blemish skin, baggy eyes, coughing his heart out but still trying to look strong and respectable in from of you. IT was then, you decided you would do anything in your power to help this man, even if it meant stealing an important discovery, risking your job and possibly life...
''Alright then love,'' He breathed out. ''But you're not making any move until we have a bulletproof plan! I don't want you to get in trouble.''
He mumbled in the end, probably hoping you didn't hear him, but the growing smile on your face proved him otherwise. You threw your hand up, mimicking a soldier's salute, and tried to give him your most serious face.
''Sir, yes sir!''
Jason's laugh flew in the air, melting your heart as you lower your hand. Your chest blooming with pride from being the reason for his sudden burst of laughter.
For the next hours, you tried making the best plan you could. You drew him a map of the camp as precisely as you could, you weren't an artist and your memory wasn't the best, but Jason seemed to have worked with the worst before. Leaving him to think of the plan, you answered his questions about some guard's shift and who'd find it suspicious to see you in a section of the building you weren't supposed to be in. You took some notes, but in the end, it wasn't that hard of a plan. As long as you timed it right, you would probably barely meet anyone on your way. The hardest part would be to explain why you need to know where's the vaccine is kept. Because yes, you didn't even know that yet. But Jason thought it would be very unlikely for them to move it into another section.
As he was forming some ideas in his head, you observed in and felt admiration for the man. When you had told him about the existence of the vaccine and the plan of your superior, Jason didn't even blink. He didn't seem surprised nor angry, it was as if he expected nothing less.
After getting more details on paper, Jason laid back on his angled mattress and sighed. He seemed to be inside his head, staring into the void, when his glare suddenly met yours.
His hazel globes scanned your features as if it was the first time.
"Are you certain about this?"
"Yes."
He bit his lips, and you couldn't help but at his doing. Imagining your own teeth tugging at his lower lip to deepen the kiss...
You felt your cheeks reddening in an instant as you quickly looked away.
You were about to go on a solo heist and were thinking of kissing a dying man? What was wrong with you? Feeling like you needed to work on your sense of priority, you cleared your throat and looked at your watch.
"It's almost time," You whispered. Lifting your gaze to meet Jason's. "Are you gonna be okay?"
"Are you sure they'll wait for your next shift?" He asked in return, it didn't feel like he was questioning you, more that he wanted to make sure of all the facts.
"Yes, I'm the only one in the facility," You assured him. "No one would be able to do it."
"Then yes, I'll be fine."
Without really thinking, you grabbed onto his hand, holding it tight within yours and you savored the moment. You could feel your cheeks burning under his intense gaze. You stared at each other until he sighed and nodded.
You sent him a warm smile before getting up and walking to the meds supplies cabinet, letting go of his hand with difficulty. You looked a little while before taking a certain bottle of pills and walking back to the man.
''How much do you weigh?'' You asked him.
He faked being shocked, putting his hand on his chest.
''Well, that is personal love!''
You laughed at his manners, trying to ignore your heart racing at the pet name. After he told you his weight, you did some calculations in your head before taking out a few pills and putting them on the table next to Jason's bed.
''Four is the maximum I can give you,'' You explained. ''It should be enough to slow your heart rate enough without being dangerous. You'll probably wake up after a few hours, which should be enough. Wait ten minutes to take them after I leave, and then count to a hundred backward. You'll be asleep in a matter of seconds.''
''Yes ma'am.'' He nodded seriously.
You let out a shaky breath, feeling nervousness fill your body. Jason seemed to notice as he grabbed your hand again and smile at you.
''It will be alright. I trust you.''
You lifted your gaze to meet his, you were surprised by how much trust he seemed to put into you while he barely knew you. But he had nothing to lose, not even his life. The question was more why were you trusting him so much and risking everything you had for a man you barely knew? To be honest, you didn't really have the answer, but it felt wrong to do otherwise and you wouldn't be able to live with yourself if you didn't try.
Taking your silence as hesitation, Jason took your hand to his mouth and pressed a soft kiss on it, wanting to be reassuring. A furious blush redden your face, but it worked. Your worries went away leaving your mind to be filled with thoughts about a certain man and a certain kiss, as futile as it was.
''I need to go.''
Jason nodded and let your hand go. You slowly walked to the door, stopping before it. You looked at him over your shoulder. Taking in his sight in case it was the last. Your heart jumped seeing him as handsome as ever.
''Don't die before I come back.''
''I won't.''

22:00
You looked at your watch, your foot tapping the floor nervously as you filled the cup holder with tree freshly made coffees. You let out a deep breath to calm your nerves, Jason was probably getting ready as well. Now was your time to shine.
22:05
The guard shift had just changed. The new guys were standing in front of the door leading to the division C bloc. You looked at them from the corner of a far corridor and saw them yawn. Perfect.
Plastering a wide smile on your face, you happily walked to them, coffees in hand.
''Good morning soldiers!'' You winked at them. ''Nightshift are always so rough, I thought I'd bring some coffee for the hard-working guards of my division!''
They looked at each other before smiling back at you and grabbing onto a coffee each, eating up your lie.
''Thanks, lady. ''
You nodded before taking a sip of your coffee, but almost spitted it out after the soldier continued.
''Hey, I recognize you.'' He said, your heart racing. You were scared he figured you didn't work in division C. '' You're the nice scientist I was guarding a few nights ago, you brought me pastries!''
You felt relief wash over you, even though you weren't out of the woods yet, at least he thought you were someone legit.
''Oh, I recognize you!'' You lied, not knowing the man at all. '' You're the nice-looking fella I couldn't take my eyes off that night.''
You winked at him, the man looked pleased by it and threw a big smile towards his fellow guard who just shrugged.
You quickly looked at your watch.
22:15
Jason had taken the pills a few minutes ago, and they were probably starting to affect him by now. Meaning the door would open in... 3... 2... 1...
The door violently opened to a bunch of scientists screaming and running out of division C. Surprised, the guards quickly followed them to understand what was happening. While the coast was clear, you quickly slipped into the door as it was slowly closing.
You made it in. You smiled. The first step was accomplish! Now you needed to find that vaccine.
22:47
Shuffling through all the papers you could find, searching for information. Opening every box and every drawer hoping to magically fall on the vaccine. You needed to act fast, they would be back anytime soon.
You were lucky that making Jason act dead made them all run away from their stations. You weren't sure if it would work at first, there were a lot of odds at play. First, if the pills would work well enough on Jason to make him seem dead for a few hours, then if the guards wouldn't recognize you and be stupid enough not to question why you were waiting outside with them inside of walking in. The reason being, your card didn't have clearance for that division. Then, you didn't know if Jason's ''death'' would make all the Division C scientists run to his side, but you had figured as much. Jason was important to them, he was the main part of their experiment. If he died prematurely, they would all run to him to be sure.
So here you were, looking everywhere in their stuff to find that vaccine. If only you knew who had made it, they probably kept it close out of pride.
You looked at your watch again, you were running out of time.
You sighed and looked around, observing the little cabinets, desks, and work tables around. Your gaze stopped on a wine bottle sitting on a desk.
Wine was extremely hard to sneak into the scientific base and illegal for anyone who didn't have a high status. Someone probably gifted it to the owner of that desk. A gift made most likely because of a life-changing discovery.
You ran over to the desk in question and looked around, opening cabinets and drawers. Until you suddenly fell onto a black briefcase with the tag ''VC.JK-000'' written on it.
''Vaccine. Jason Kolchek.'' You whispered for yourself, a wide smile on your face. ''I got it!''
You opened the briefcase and took the vaccine, thinking it was more subtle for you to hide it in your pockets instead of bringing the recognizable briefcase with you.

23:14
After quickly leaving division C, you made a run for the morgue. The excitement making you want to sprint to your quiet working room but the guards were already looking at you weirdly with your fast walking. Attracting more attention would be dangerous.
You forced yourself to slow down a little bit, and tried calming your breathing. Everything had worked so well, you could barely believe it. The fear of something bad waiting right around the corner as soon as you would let yourself relax. Your palms were sweaty with all the pressure resting on your shoulder, but as you pushed the door to the morgue, you felt all that anxiety leave your body, even if it was just for a second, you felt safe in this room, the only people here being dead bodies. It was probably strange to most after working for so long with them, you couldn't help but change the way you looked at death now. It felt peaceful.
You walked to the corpse's cabinet and opened the door with the newest tag. As you dragged the rolling table mostly out, you let your gaze wander on Jason's restful face. Even acting dead, his blemish skin almost blue from his sickness, heavy bags under his eyes, he still looked so handsome. How is that even fair?
Staring at his dried lips, the need to pressed yours on his was nagging at you. You shook your head to clear your thoughts.
''I should probably wake him first...''
You moved quickly, walking to your small desk in the corner of the room. It was a little strange to have your office inside the morgue, but you didn't mind. The camp didn't have enough space to give you one, but it also meant peace and quiet since no one liked being here. And it made you walk less. Yes, you were quite a lazy person.
You grabbed the clothes you had hidden for him and some pills. You dropped the clothes onto your chest, figuring he would probably want to dress when he'd wake up. Walking back to your desk, you pick up the water bottle you had left there on purpose. Laying a few pills on your desk, you crushed them with your bottle, picked up the residue, and mixed it with the water.
Making him swallow water was easier than pills. You walked back to the man, bottle in hand, and lifted his head slightly as you poured the water in his mouth. Slowly so he wouldn't drown and die for real. You did this for a few minutes, giving him a little water in a sip as you could. You honestly didn't know how much he needed to wake up, your knowledge being all about every way to die and not to survive.
After finishing the whole bottle you sighed and walked to your desk and sat down. You looked at your watch.
00:02
You closed your eyes and laid your head on the hard surface of your desk. You had been awake for so long and had an exhausting day full of stress. You were exhausted.
You didn't realize you fell asleep until a loud noise woke up. Jerking your head up, you felt a headache hit up your brain as your eyes were attacked by the brightness of the room. It didn't take you long to adjust and forget about all of it when your eyes fell on a shirtless Jason as he was trying to get dressed.
''O-Oh! I'm so sorry I didn't want to wake you up.''
Hearing his hoarse voice mixed with his southern drawl while being shirtless... It was too much for you. You quickly looked away, your face a furious red as heat rushed through your body. Well, now you were more than wide awake.
''D-Don't worry about it.'' You sent him a side glance, and sigh when you saw he seemed fully dressed. Was it a sigh of relief or disappointment? Honestly, you couldn't tell. ''I'm glad to see you awake and well.''
Jason warmly smiled at you as he walked to your desk.
''I knew it would work, I trust you.''
You couldn't help but return the smile, reaching to your pockets to take out the vaccine from its safe hiding place. You proudly showed it to him.
''Time to make you feel better!'' ''Good,'' He laughed. '''cuz I feel like ass.''
You laughed along with him as you got up and asked him to sit on your desk. As he took place, you prepare his arm to receive the shot. But when you approach the syringe from his skin, you felt him tense beside you. A sly smile tugged your lips.
''You alright there Lieutenant?''
''Don't you dare mock me, I just hate needles...'' He pouted, and the sight was worth all the money in the world.
''Do you like dogs?'' You asked him.
''W-What?''
''I love dogs, I think they're the cutest thing especially puppies!'' You continued, hoping to distract him as you closed in with the syringe.
It seemed to be working.
''I love 'em too. Big dogs mostly.'' He shared with you. ''I always wanted to get an Aust- HEY!''
You exploded o laughter at the sight of his betrayed looks as you took out the needle from his arm.
You laid it on your desk and grabbed onto a tissue before cleaning his arm.
''You did great champ.'' You winked and you could swear you saw him getting flustered.
''Oh shut up.''
He wanted to sound offended but the smile tugging his lips was betraying his real feelings.
''I really hope the vaccine makes you feel better soon.''
Jason turned his head towards you. You didn't realize how close you were standing to help him with the vaccine until his face was just a few centimeters away from yours.
''Thank you.''
The southern drawl being whispered in your ear made you shiver. You couldn't help but stare at his lips for a while and forced yourself to move your eyes to meet his. Jason's brown orbs were staring back, deep into yours.
You felt strangely at ease looking at him like that. Most of the time, you hated getting close to people, physically and relationship-wise. You had friends but no one you were close to, not that you hated everyone, it was more that you enjoyed being alone and you never felt like it needed to change. But with Jason, everything felt different, natural. It was easy and simple to talk with him, it felt easy to care and to want to help. You couldn't really explain it to yourself, but you knew from the moment you saw him smile at you, you knew you'd do anything for him, you knew you'd end up getting close to. It should've scared you, getting closer to someone, developing feelings for a man you barely knew. But Jason... Jason made it all worth it. With a single smile, he made all your doubts disappear.
You didn't know how long you both stare at each other until Jason broke the eyes contact to clear his throat.
''We should get ready for part two of our plan, before sunrise.'' He quickly let out while getting up from the desk.
You blinked a few times, your brain slowly coming back to life.
Right.. Jason wasn't out of trouble yet.
- - - - -
02:37
Your sweaty hands gripping on tight to the metal bar, you tried looking casual as you rolled the stretcher filled with a body bag. Nervousness was boiling in you, your heart beating so loudly. At any moment, you felt about to get caught. You spotted a little movement from the corner of your eyes, you couldn't help yourself and hit the body bag.
''Stop wiggling!'' You whispered since nobody seemed to be around.
''But it's so tight!'' The body bag answered.
You snorted at the memory of Jason trying hard to wiggle inside the bag as you tried to close it on him. It was a good thing he wasn't tall, otherwise, you wouldn't have been able to fully zip it. Why were the bags so small?
As you guided the stretcher in the hallways, you felt very lucky to meet very few people except some soldiers. No one seemed to ask questions about you moving around with a corpse in the camp. The fact that you placed your corpse examiner badge well in view probably helped.
After a while, you finally reached the drop site for all corpses and garbage of the camp. You closed the door behind you and opened the bag for Jason.
He took a deep breath as you freed him from the very warm and tight corpse bag.
''Fuck that was horrible.''
''I'm sorry,'' You winced, looking at him trying to get out the bag. ''It was the only way I could think of making you leave the camp.''
Jason turned to you and gave you a warm smile that showed his dimples, you felt your legs grow weaker at the view. What a handsome man.
''Don't worry love, I know.''
You stared at him for a while, wanting to say many more things before letting him go and part ways probably forever. You felt your heart shatter at the thought. You didn't want to leave him, you weren't even sure the vaccine was gonna work, and he was still weak, you still wanted to help.
''So.. What are you gonna do now?''
Jason sent you a bright smile at the thought of what was next.
''Guess I'll just go visit a friend earlier than I thought!''
You didn't really know what it meant but from the smile on his face, you felt happy for him. For some reason, even if his future was gonna be into hiding since he was supposedly dead, it sounded way better than your boring old life... Because it was by his side.
You shook your head.
''I'm happy you got someone to go to. I should probably try to steal a jeep in the cargo bay, it's right next to the dump actually, and honestly, it's not guarded at all.''
Jason seemed to ponder his options for a while before approving the idea.
''If I leave fast enough without the lights on they might not notice me, and if they do it would be too late and I would be far gone.''
A weird silence fell between the two of you, it was time for goodbyes but none of you seemed to know what to say. You stared at your hands, playing with your fingers for a while, waiting for the dreadful moment Jason would just leave and hoping he would want you to stay with him.
''T-Thank you...'' He whispered, breaking the silence. You looked up to him, watching a shy pink heat his cheeks. ''Thank you for everything, I'd be a dead man if it wasn't for you.''
A warmth flooded your body, you felt really proud of yourself, you had saved the life of a man.
''I couldn't have left you to die.''
''I know, you're too good Y/N.''
You couldn't help but respond to his smile, but it fell immediately when Jason suddenly walked to you and grabbed your hands with his, holding you close. His proximity and actions took you by surprise. Your heart beating fast, maybe this was it?
''Y/N I...'' He started, looking everywhere but your eyes. '' I don't think I've felt so close to anyone else before you. Even though we barely know each other, you risked your life for me... I'll never be grateful enough.''
You listened to him with full ears, your eyes widening as he went on, finally locking his gaze with yours.
''I want you to leave with me, and I think you want it to, but... You can't. My life isn't gonna be easy from now on, and I don't want to put you in any danger. I'd never forgive myself. I-I... I want you to live on, they don't have proof that you helped me so you'll be fine. I'll.. I'll find you when the time is right.''
You didn't realize the tears sliding down your cheeks until Jason's hands cupped your face to try them with his thumbs.
''You know this is the better option. They think I'm dead but you? They'll come looking for you.''
''I... I know.''
''I'm so sorry love.''
''Me too.''
Jason leaned in before pressing a kiss on your forehead. You closed your eyes, concentrating on the feeling so you would remember it better. When his lips left your skin, you kept your eyes closed, your heart shattering as you heard him slide down the dump opening.
- - - - -
''Fuck... Fuck, FUCK!'' He screamed silently, angrily kicking some garbage on the ground.
He pressed his hands on his face and brushed his hair, letting out a deep sigh.
''Why did I have to meet her here? I wish we had more time...''
He tried not to think about it for too long, he wasn't out of the woods yet and couldn't let his heartbreak ruin the chance you had given him to life and freedom.
Jason decided to move his ass out of the garbage dump, trying not to look too much at the many-body bags laying on the ground, lucky him he never had a great nose.
He sneaked outside, looking around to see if there was any soldier on the lookout, but just like you had said, they really weren't guarding the area. Jason stayed in a crouching position anyways, carefully walking to the cargo bay. After reaching the already opened garage door, Jason peaked inside.
''Really? No one? Security sucks in this place.''
He walked up to one of the many jeeps, looking around to find its keys. Luckily, the need of being fast and efficient gave the habit to every soldier of hiding the keys on one of the tires. It took Jason a few seconds to find them. He quickly hopped in the car, one hand on the steering wheel, the other about to put the keys in before he froze.
He couldn't leave you, could he?
You were all he ever dreamed of without even realizing it. You were funny and much smarter than him, which he loved. And you were beautiful, physically but everything about you was beautiful. His heart throbbed every time you cared for him, every time you risked your life for him. Your determination in helping an almost stranger was probably what made him love you the most...
But parting ways with you was the best option, the safest for you. And even if his heart wanted you by his side, he wouldn't do that to you. But he promised himself when things would cool down and after he would fully be healed, he'd come and find you.
He fixed his mind on the fact that he would see you again one day, Jason turned on the ignition. Even without the lights on, the sound of the engine was quite loud, making his departure not so subtle, meaning he needed to leave fast.
He pressed on the gas, quickly heading out of the cargo bay. But a sudden scream, reaching him from the darkness of the night made him hit the breaks hard.
''Y/N?'' He screamed over the sound of the engine, looking around until his eyes met yours.
''Jason!''
You were running towards him as fast as you could.
Jason's heart jumped at the view, he would lie if he said he wasn't happy to see you again so fast, thinking earlier were your last goodbyes before a while.
''What are you doing?'' He asked, stepping out of the jeep.
You ran to him and crashed into his arms as he caught you. You looked up to him, your face so close to his, he felt his heart racing and a furious blush reach his cheeks after hearing you.
''I'm leaving with you,'' You breathed out, exhausted from your run.
Your heads seemed red and puffy, Jason easily assumed you had cried a while before running to him. He felt his heart wince.
''But-''
''No, but! I'm coming no matter what you say.''
A soft smile crept on his lips, he couldn't help it, having you with him was all he wanted at the moment.
''Thank yo-''
Jason was cut off by the echoing sound of a gunshot. His eyes widened as you opened your mouth. Jason tried to look around and see where the shooter was. He was in panic, he didn't hear any warning or anything. Did they really just shoot without saying anything? Maybe the engine of the jeep made it impossible to hear.
''Y/N we gotta leave now, we're too exposed!''
Jason grabbed onto your arm and tried to drag you to the jeep, but you quickly stopped him.
''J-Jason wait.''
''No, we need to-'' ''Jason!''
''What?!''
He quickly turned around to face you, and it suddenly hit him. You were shot.
''Y/N!''
Your legs getting weaker, Jason had to grab you to stop you from falling to the grown. He wrapped an arm around you and succeeded in bringing you to the other side of the jeep, crouching being it as a few shots hit the car where you used to stand.
Being behind cover and feeling a little safer, Jason looked at you, searching for your wound. It was easy to spot, your whole shirt was bathing in blood. Helping you lay on his lap, Jason pressed his hand on your wound, trying to stop more blood from leaving your body as you cough up some blood.
Coughing up blood... It was something Jason was getting used to doing until barely a day ago. Something you had saved him from, but he didn't know how to save you.
Panic was filling his body, he couldn't think straight. He was so happy only a few seconds before, seeing you run towards him. But now, here you were, dying in his arms.
''No... No, no, no Y/N! I don't want to lose you, not yet no... I can't leave you twice in the same hour I can't.''
''Jason...''
''What can I do, Y/N what cant I do?!''
''Jason!''
Your bloodied hand reached to his face, caressing his cheek while painting it with blood. But he didn't mind, he leaned in your touch.
''Helping you is the best thing I-I've ever done.'' You said in between two coughs.
Jason felt the tears freely flooding down his face.
''I d-didn't deserve it.''
''Silly,'' You tried laughing but the pain made you winced and cough even more. ''Thank you f-for making me feel love.''
''Y/N...''
''Jason... Live for me.''
The sobs that took him made it impossible for him to answer. He watch as you smiled warmly at him, a smile that slowly faded as you lost all your strength, life slowly leaving your body.
''Y/N?....Y/N?! No, please no...'' Jason wrapped his arms tighter around you, leaning his face down so his head could be pressed against yours. ''I'm sorry... I'm sorry you died for me. I don't deserve it, it should've been me. It should've been me!"
A few gunshots hitting the jeep made him jump. Right, this wasn't the moment for him to crumble down, he needed to get out of here. But he couldn't bring himself to leave you behind.
Jason dried his tears as best he could, leaving his broken heart to deal with later. He quickly loaded your body into the jeep, as carefully as he could without getting shot. Then he jumped into the driver's seat, hitting the gas and leaving as fast as he could, disappearing into the night. Leaving his heart with the pool of blood drying in the sand far behind him.

06:47
A sudden knock on the door made the man jump. He wasn't expecting anyone so early in the morning. Laying his book on the living room table, the man got up and walked to the front door. He grabbed onto the revolver he placed right next to the door frame. He carefully opened the door, peeking his head out while pointing his gun from the other side. But he quickly dropped it to the floor by surprise, opening the door fully to the man in front of him.
''Salim...''
''Oh my god Jaosn...''
Salim ran out of his house and hugged the American standing in front of his home. He didn't expect to see him before a few months, years, or even at all. He wasn't gonna complain, nor was he gonna ask why Jason was crying against his shoulders, why he was feeling so frail into his arms or why was his shirt full of blood.
If Jason ran to him because he needed a friend, then a friend Salim would be.

Summer is a nice season. Loved by many for its warmth and the green scenery, the beach and the sea. The long days under the sun, a nice cocktail in hand while laughing with friend around a pool. Barbecues, stupid amazing barbecues. This used to be summer for you.
Now, summer was hatred. Long arid days, with the never ending Iraqi desert surrounding you. The sun was the devil you needed to fight against every day and the camp was exhausting. And you could swear you lost weight just from sweating since you got transfered to Camp Slayer.
The wind was warm as it brushed your exposed arms, not even refreshing, you sighed. The sun was at its zenith and you were stuck outside. Its kiss burning your body, you'd probably end up with sunbruns by the en of the day, no matter how much military grade suncreen's shit you put on every 30 minutes. You lifted your eyes to your unreachable ennemy, squinting your eyes to be able to stare and cursed at it.
A shadow suddenly covered your eyes. You jerked around, lifting your hands to your head as your felt something resting on your hair. Jason smirked at you, helping you fix his cap that he put on your head.
''You shouldn't be looking straight the that big ball, Rouge.'' He laughed. ''I don't want you to hurt your pretty eyes.''
You couldn't help but let the heat rise to your cheeks, burning your face harder than the sun. At least, you could blame your reddening face on it.
''Thank you."
Jason nodded to you, his own eyes now half-closed from the brightness of the sun. It seemed even worse for him, always having his baseball cap on, he probably never realized how much of a bitch it was to endure.
''Gonna be easier to beat you now if you can't see straight with the sun.'' I joked.
Jason faked a regretful expression and swore.
''Damn it, give it back.''
''Come and get it.''
You positioned yourself into a fighting stance, watching your first lieutenant following suit. The wide smile twisting his lips betrayed the angry look he was trying to give you.
You had been training under the heat of the day for a few hours already. Your first lieutenant always took care of placing multiple training and group tactics sessions into each of your schedules, with reason since it helped you more than once in tricky situations out in the field.
But today, the sun was hitting harder than usual, a heatwave probably passing. You seemed to be the only one left standing, your squadmates mostly laying on the ground half dead, or hiding as much as they could in the shade, drinking tones of water. Jason had no other choice to choose you as an opponent now and you really hoped the sun would give you some kind of advantage. You thanked the man in your head again, grateful that he gave you his precious cap. You would lie if his action didn't touch you more than it should, and you couldn't stop thinking that, not even once, have you ever seen Jason lend his baseball cap to anyone before. It was something he kept with him at all times like a lucky charm. It warmed your heart to think he made an exception for you, only you.
Jason swiftly slid in front of you, his fist aiming right for your face. You barely dodged it as you were lost in your thoughts, but no more. You needed all your concentration to stand a chance against him, not that you were a bad fighter, he was just better. Jason was just an exceptional soldier, good in hand-to-hand combat, deadly aim- Although, you were happy to say you were a better shot than he was.-, respectful to his superiors, a great tactician, and an amazing squad leader. No, you absolutely did not respect the man more than anyone you ever met in your life, not at all. Okay, maybe so, but you couldn't help it, the man is perfect.
As you dodged to your right, you twisted your body and pushed Jason's fist to the opposite side. The force put in the push made him lose his balance for a small second, but it was enough time for you to quickly land a punch to his side. You heard him grunt in pain as you regained your straight stance. You let a few punches fly at him, but he blocked all of them easily. For a while, you got stuck into a certain pattern. Left, right, left, dodge, right, block. Jason's strength has always been his speed, and even though you were smaller, he was still faster and you could barely keep up anymore. You stopped attacking, focusing on your defense, blocking as much as you could, and waited for an opening. You endured a few punches to your ribs, until you finally saw it, your chance to land a hit. You quickly swung your arm towards his face. You wanted to take him by surprise, making him think you wouldn't attack anymore. But you quickly realized your tactic had failed when he grabbed your arm with his opposite, flanking you with the other before you felt your whole body being flown in the air.
You lost your breath when your back hit the hard sandy ground. The pain-filled your body in an instant, the adrenaline far gone as you coughed. Jason crouched beside you. a worried look on his face.
''You alright?'' He asked, his eyes scanning your whole body.
He was close, so close. When his glare finally landed on your face, you realized it was the first time you ever saw him from this close. You couldn't help but admire his features. He had the most beautiful hazel iris you've ever seen and tiny light freckles spread on his nose and the top of his cheeks probably got them from being in the sun so much. You had never seen them before, but you knew you would never be able to miss them anymore, it made him look adorable. Contrasting with the sexy look his hair, sticking to his forehead from all the sweat, gave him.
''Just kiss already.'' Merwin sighed, getting up from the ground.
Your eyes widened out of surprise and embarrassment. Jason's head jerked up, he looked away from you, hiding his reddening face. He quickly got up, holding his hand out to you. You accepted his help, secretly loving the way his hand wrapped around yours. You reluctantly let go, and brushed the sand from your behind, wincing at the pain in your back from your fall. The hits to the ribs didn't hurt so much since Jason never used all his strength for training. You turned towards Merwin, your usual self slowly coming back after the nervousness from being so close to your First Lieutenant.
''Don't be so jealous Merwin,'' I let out. ''It will just give us more proof that your supposed wife actually doesn't exist.''
''That would mean your mom doesn't exist.''
Merwin laughed hard at his own jokes and you couldn't hide your smile as Joey stood up to high-five his friend. You would never tell him, but you kinda liked his ''your mama'' jokes. Your eyes caught Jason moving from the corner of your eyes. He was standing next to a dead Nick on the ground. You saw him gently kick his friend a few times, your ears catching a faint chuckle from him. He leaned down, grabbing a bottle of water before straightening again. You had to force yourself from keeping your mouth closed, the drool inside, as you watched Jason lift the open bottle above him, pouring the water on his head. You were mesmerized by the sight of his wet hair and his drenched shirt, stinking to his chest, leaving very little place to the imagination as to how muscular the man was. You stared, your glaze following a small drop of water on the verge of falling from a strand of hair. After what seemed like an eternity to you, it dripped down, landing on his cheek. You followed it as it slid down his glittering face. It slowly made its way near his mouth and stopped for a moment, looking like it was wondering if it wanted to go further down or to try its chance on the pink thin lips. You weren't sure which way you were rooting for, but you weren't disappointed when the drop of water decided to continue its way downwards. It slid down Jason's cutting jawline, followed the path of his neck, and you never wished anything more than to replace that drop of water with your mouth. It went down all to way to the edge of his shirt and ended its journey there.
You admired as Jason brushed a hand through his wet hair, the sun making his drenched body shine. He looked amazing, and you didn't want to admit it, but you felt a dangerous heat rise through your whole body, lingering to your lower body. You felt aroused. You felt warm. You felt incredibly dizzy.
Your yourself to take your eyes off Jason, and looked at Merwin. You jump when you saw him already staring at you, a weird smirk tugging his lips. His creepy look cooled you down fast enough.
You jumped again when suddenly stepped next to you. He threw a glance at you but quickly averted your eyes. A furious blush bloomed on his cheeks, one that you sadly did not see.
''That was one hell of a show Lieutenant. I'm all hot and bothered.'' Merwin winked at you while touching his body his supposedly sexy manners.
Does he really have a wife?
Jason quickly reacted, lifting his water bottle close to Merwin's face. He squeezed it hard, making the remaining water inside of it explodes into the poor man's face. Merwin coughed on the water, almost choking in surprise as Joey and yourself exploded with laughter.
''Who said you could speak to your Lieutenant like that?'' Jason asked, fighting a laugh to keep a serious face.
''I-... You just...AH!'' Merwin hurried back inside the building, his face red with anger.
Jason finally joined Joey and you in the laugh, you saw Nick smiling as he still laid lazily on the ground, having no strength to move.
''Ah man,'' Joey let out in between two laughs as he was calming down. ''I guess now I'll have to deal with his shitty mood for the rest of the day. But it was totally worth it.''
He winked at you and ran out after Merwin. Leaving you alone with Jason and a dead Nick on the floor. You looked at the man beside you, realizing he had been avoiding your eyes. You couldn't know, but Jason felt awfully aware of his drenched shirt sticking onto his muscular chest and he felt shyness overwhelm him now that he was, almost, alone with you.
You cleared your throat.
''Thanks for the training Lieutenant, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go take a nice shower.''
You turned around, but as you walked towards the door, a hand grabbed your wrist.
''Rouge...''
Your heart stopped, it happened every time you would hear Jason's lovely southern drawl call you by your nickname, you loved it a little too much. You looked over your shoulders at the man, raising your eyebrow at him in question.
You would never admit it, but at that moment, you wished he would've pulled you close and clashed his red plumps against yours.
Jason's eyes were done averting yours, he looked straight at you, something crawling in that glare, something profound. You felt a burning hope rise in you.
''Can you look at some papers Commander sent us when you're done? We got assigned a new mission.''
Crushed. That's what your hopes were now, crushed. As they always ended up to be.
''Sir, yes sir.''
You didn't mean to sound so harsh, nor to snatch your wrist from his hand so abruptly. You missed Jason's face falling into sadness and disappointment as you quickly turned around and rushed inside the building. Your heart losing another piece yet again, you felt like you had so little left, at least when they would all be gone, the pain would be as well.
- - - - -
''Well fucking played man.''
Jason jumped from the sudden voice. Merwin suddenly appeared from behind the fence where he had been hiding with Joey. He crossed his arms on the fence, pressing his chin on them, his lips tugged into a pout.
''The hell are you still doing here?'' Jason asked.
''Just wanted to see how our plan turned out.'' Joey peeped out from behind the fence, imitating Merwin's position.
''It was horrible,'' Nick commented.
They all hummed in agreement. Jason rolled his eyes, his patience running low.
''Who's fault is that?'' He yelled. ''I should've never followed your stupid plan.''
''It was pure genius!'' Merwin answered, offended.
''Genius?'' The Lieutenant croaked. ''Pouring water all over myself was genius you say? See how well it worked out, she ran away!''
''Why did you follow my idea then!''
''Because I'm all out of ideas!''
No one answered to that, they all knew Jason had been helplessly in love with you for the past year. Ever since you got out of that helicopter, looking absolutely flawless with your beautiful red-painted lips. He had fallen hard and over the year he had tried and tried over and over again to tell you, to flirt with you, ask you out. But every single time he had failed, either he was absolutely terrible at doing so, or you were totally oblivious. Maybe a bit of you.
After so many ridiculous tries, the other guys in the squad had realized their Lieutenant struggles and decided to start bets of when, how, or if he would get you to fall for him. After months of betting, which Joey made quite a lot of profit from, Jason was ready to give up. He had run out of ideas and was desperate. The guys took pity on him and had decided to join the force and help their poor Lieutenant. But none of their ideas had actually helped and Jason was getting tired.
He sighed, his heart crushed after such a failed attempt. He felt ridiculous drenched in water, trying to be sexy. You probably just thought he was acting weird.
''I'm done guys, thanks for trying.''
And on that, their Lieutenant disappeared into the building.
- - - -
Nick had a sudden regain of energy and quickly got up. He couldn't let his friend give up yet. Jason might not have seen it, but Nick clearly saw your arousal while his friend was pouring water all over his body. To him, it was obvious you at least felt attraction towards the southern man. Therefore he could not let him give up.
The three men looked at each other and nodded. They all agreed that they wouldn't let that happen.
''Alright then,'' Merwin smirked. ''If he can't do it, then we will.''
''Time for plan B.'' Nick smiled.
''Bring it on,'' Joey said, replacing the glasses on his nose.
- - - - -
Leaning against your bathroom door after you just closed it. You let out a deep breath. Your glare met your own into the reflection in the mirror, feeling your heart wincing even more when you realized you still had Jason's baseball cap resting on your hair. His cap fitted you well, added to your painted lips, you looked really good, and it broke your heart even more. You took off the hat and put it on your bathroom counter, grabbed onto a makeup remover towel, wiped off the lipstick on your lips, and stared at the red stain on the fabric.
Lipstick always made you feel better, it gave you a boost of confidence, something to protect yourself with. Sadly though, it didn't protect you from heartbreaks.
You stepped into the shower, letting the warm water pour on your body, it felt so nice.
You arrived a year ago, right after graduation top of your class from Quantico, after becoming a Second Lieutenant. You were sent to the harsh land of Iraq in war, thinking you would be sent to the frontlines. You got lucky though, because of your grades, you were placed into a special Marine squad that was staying at Saddam's palace, renamed Camp Slayer.
When you first stepped off the helicopter, taking in the heat of the desert, you were greeted by a beautiful man, Jason. It was hard not to think Jason was a handsome man, but you had met plenty of pretty faces in your life who all ended up being assholes. So you didn't give it a second thought. Your past relationship was still a painful memory, you had been broken and abused, until you were able to run. That was when you decided to enlist. You wanted to become stronger, to be able to take care of yourself. You didn't need no man.
Upon meeting the team, you realized it was more of a family. Even though Merwin was a jerk, even Nick always seemed to hide a lot of secrets and Joey was always scared and distrusting of everyone, Jason was there to keep them all together, like a true pillar. He was amazing, a born leader. And you were happily surprised when the whole squad welcomed you with open arms, making you feel at home with them more than anywhere else.
It didn't take them long to come up with your nickname, which soon became your call sign, Rouge. You loved it, and you wouldn't be lying if you admitted how much you loved how Jason's southern accent would thicken when he would say it. You were proud of your nickname and weren't ashamed of the red lipstick you wore every single day no matter what was on your schedule. Whether it was training, filling papers behind a desk, or being out in the field, you would paint your lips red. It was comforting for you, it made you feel strong like you could take over the world.
After living for so long with the squad, you quickly realized Jason was more than just a pretty face, he didn't have the ugly soul you first assumed he would. It was the absolute opposite, Jason was even more beautiful on the inside. He was an honest man, a hard worker, an amazing soldier, and a genius tactician. But most of all, he was a great squad leader. He truly cared more than anything about each member of his team, even you who had just arrived. He always made sure that everyone was safe on the field, and would give his life in a heartbeat to help any of you. But he was also thoughtful outside of his duties. Every day he would talk to everyone in the squad, inquiring how we are feeling and if he could do anything to help. Jason was amazing, too amazing.
It didn't take you long to realize you had fallen for the man. You were deeply infatuated by him. So much that every single of his smirk, every single of his laugh, or when your eyes would meet, your heart would skip a beat. But the joy and excitement were always quickly followed by pain. Always lurking close to remind you of your precious relationship. In which you had loved and given your heart to a man, only for him to destroy you and abuse you for years. You wouldn't let that happen ever again. You wouldn't be able to live through it a second time...
No. You didn't need no man.

"Y/N!"
"Yes Sir?" You asked, lifting up your gaze from the fascinating dead creature laying on your examination table. Your eyes met your superior's as he tilted his head towards the hallway, demanding you to follow him.
You sighed, not wanting to quit the dead monster, thinking of the amazing discoveries you could still make.
"Take over." You said to the little man assisting you. He nodded, watching you leave with your superior.
You walked behind him in silence for a while, until you realized he was bringing you to the medical bay.
"Is someone hurt?" You asked, curiously. "I'm not really a doctor."
"It's too late for him," He shrugged nonchalantly at the death of a man.
As you approached the door, your heart winced as you heard a deep couching burst. That sounded bad..
"So what am I supposed to with him?"
"Examine, that's your job." He said, slamming some files on your chest.
"On dead bodies!" You exclaimed as you grabbed the papers.
"He's barely alive anymore."
Your superior left you there, in front of the door, unsure of what to do next. You looked into the tiny window of the door and what you saw made your little heart shatter.
All you could see was a man, sitting on a hospital bed. If it wasn't for the wall behind him, you knew he would be laying down. A minute couldn't pass with him having a couching tantrum. His skin was sweaty and his whole body seemed shaky. But it if wasn't for all that and the impressive bags under his eyes, you would probably think he was the most handsome man you've laid eyes on.
You felt terribly sorry for the man, he looked in so much pain. One of his hands holding his stomach, the other one hiding his frowning mouth. And his eyes closed with all his might.
With a deep sigh, you picked up a mask beside the door and put it on before pushing the door open. As you slipped into the room, the man barely notice, stuck in another set of coughs.
He calmed down as you reached a chair in a corner of the room. You slowly brought it close to the bed and sat on it. You looked at the files for a while, flipping the papers and reading some of them, until you realized the couching had stopped. You quickly lifted your head, eyes widening as your gaze met the hazel eyes of the man in front of you. He was staring at you, his eyes filled with distrust, anger, and pain.
''H-Hi, I'm so sorry I should've said something! I'm used to working with a dead corpse...'' You muttered, looking away as you felt a blush blooming across your face.
''And I'm used to making those corpses, not being one.'' The man answered with a beautiful southern drawl that made your heart throb.
You glare back at him, knowing it was meant as a joke, but none of you were laughing.
''I'll do all I can so you don't get to that point...''
''Your friends aren't saying the same.'' He pointed.
''Well, they're not my friends.''
You missed his curious look as you went back into looking at the papers. You grabbed a pen in one of your pockets, ready to take some notes.
''I have to ask you a few questions I think.'' You told him.
''You think?'' He asked, a smirk growing on his lips.
You blushed even more at the view, loving the way his smirk made some light dimples appear on his handsome face. It made you forget abour your embarrassement for a moment. Sadly the view didn't last long, a burst of cough taking a toll on him once more.
You couldn't help but winced, seeing the man in pain. Working with corpses was a decision you made a while back when you realized you had a little too much empathy to work with living patient. You couldn't help but feel his pain through your whole body. As you waited for him to calm down and go on with your questions, you observed him closer. He had a nice build, after years in the army you weren't really surprised. Looking closely, you could clealy see his skin being a little too translucide and grey for it to be natural. His veins were too apparent in places they shouldn't be.
''To be honest,'' You started, leaving your observation as it hurted you too much to look at. ''They kinda threw me in there without any notice. As I said, I work with corpses, not breathing people.''
''That's exactly why they chose you.''
Your heart sank, understanding what he meant. You watched him as he laid back against the wall, his intense glare never leaving you. He thought he was a dead man, they all did. And you couldn't say you didn't think it as well after observing him from up close, but you couldn't help wanting to save him. For some reason, you didn't want this man to die. But being unable to know if you could even help him yet, you decided to stay quiet.
''Umm... Jason Kolchek?'' You read on the files.
He nodded.
''Nice to meet you.'' You said, giving him a gentle smile.
He hummed.
''You're a first Lieutenant?'' You asked surprised.
''What's to it?''
He raised his eyebrows at you, seeming already annoyed by the questionnaire to come and clearly taking your surprised look the wrong way. You felt the heat redden your face.
''N-nothing, it's just impressive. It says you've been in the Marines for only two years.''
Jason scoffed.
''I worked my ass off.''
You smiled at him, seeing how pride seemed to make him straighten. You let your eyes wander on him, taking sight of his luscious brown locks, softly falling down on his forehead. He had mesmerizing hazelnut iris, glittering with intelligence and wit. Your eyes follow the straight line of his nose, falling down to his pink lips. You stopped yourself when you realized you had been bitting your lips, heart racing as you took in the features of this handsome Marine.
Handsome dying patient, you reminded yourself.
As you looked back at his eyes, you realized he was avoiding your gaze. His eyes were watering, his lips smacked together and his face reddening. Worry filled your body until you realized what he was doing. You sighed, rolling your eyes. But you couldn't help a small smile to grow on your face.
''Stop holding it in, no need to impress me.'' You told him.
Jason instantly exploded into yet another loud couching tantrum. Holding his stomach from the pain it gave him.
''Don't do that anymore, it will only make it more painful.''
After he was done coughing, Jason cleared his throat and looked back at you, a sly smirk on his lips.
''I saw you staring, I had to look good.''
Your eyes widened, mouth opening as you searched for words. But the embarrassment you felt was too strong for you to find anything to say. You let a heavy blush heat your face as Jason exploded with laughter, quickly followed by a well-deserved cough.
''I was only examining my patient!'' You lied, a pout forming on your lips.
''Yeah right.''
You smiled at the man and felt warmth building up your body as he reciprocated. You felt strangely comfortable around him, even though he was basically a stranger. But you felt like you already knew him more than anyone else in this scientific camp. And you couldn't help but want to get closer to him.
The hours flew by as the two of you mostly talked about life outside the army. You learned Jason always wanted a dog but never had the chance to get the chance to adopt one since his family was poor growing up. Also that he never had coffee, he was too scared it would give him so much energy that he would go crazy and get addicted.
For hours, you laughed together about random silly things, enjoying light conversations. Something that was impossible to have in here.
It didn't stop you from taking notes about his state at the same time. Like how you noticed his coughing seemed more painful than a normal one. Or how his skin seemed to get paler with every passing hour. Or how he would try to hide subtly hide his hand from you after coughing some blood in it, and you tried not to look, letting him think you hadn't noticed. But you did, and every single time your heart would break a little more.
You jumped when your watch started beeping, alerting you that your shift was over. You had been so invested in your conversation with Jason, you never saw the hours pass. You smile at the man as you got up.
'''Shift is over, I should let you rest.''
Jason looked at you with a sad smile and nodded. You bit your lips, feeling the strong need of staying with him. Jason suddenly coughed again and you sighed, he really did need to rest.
''I'll come back tomorrow. Rest well.'' You smile at him and walked to the door.
As you were about to leave the room, you heard Jason call out to you. Your heart skipped a beat as you turned to look back at him, fighting the hope that he would ask you to stay.
''You never told me your name,'' Jason asked, curiosity filling his eyes, mixed with another feeling you couldn't recognize.
You laughed when you realized he was right.
''It's Y/N.'' You told him. '' Y/L/N.''
Your smile grew wider when you saw Jason mutter your name, trying to get the feel of it on his lips.
''I like it.'' He softly said.
You expected your heart to throb, to start racing with excitement as he complimented your name. But all you felt was hurt, a deep pain twisting your bowels as worry and determination rushed through your body.
Jason can't die, you won't let him. Whatever it takes, you'll find a way to help him.
''Good night Lieutenant.'' You quietly said as you stepped out of the room.
- - - - -
Mornings were always hard and a good dose of coffee was needed for you to function correctly.
You stepped into the cantine, trying to avoid people as much as possible. You weren't a morning person, and really not in the mood to talk. Or at least that's what you told yourself as an excuse instead of accepting you hated everyone here and had no friends. Not that you weren't a social person, quite the contrary. Back at home, you loved hanging out with some of your colleagues and you were one of the lucky ones who had kept in contact with some good friends from school. Here, the people were all scientists thinking of the Marines as test subjects instead of humans, it disgusted you. At least, you were only supposed to stay here only for a few months, and until you were back in your comfy home, you'll gladly stick to your music as a sole company. Well, that was before yesterday. Before you met the only man who had ever looked at you as a person instead of a freak because of your job. The only man that ever made your heart jump with a single smile. You weren't one to get easily infatuated, but you could feel a crush growing for the Marine. Dying Marine...
You shook your head, trying to disappear those unwelcome thoughts. You'll find a way to help him. You grabbed onto your mug when the machine finished filling it and as you walked by some food stands, you stopped. Your eyes fell on some tasty-looking pastries that your stomach growled for. Listening to your needs, you grabbed one for yourself and another for Jason. He'd probably be happy to get real food instead of the poor-looking meals they had been giving him. Your stomach was filled with butterflies thinking of how happy you'll probably make him.
''...ines is a dead man, I feel bad for him.''
As you were walking to the exit, you couldn't help but overhear a conversation between two guards sitting at a table. You stopped, your heart racing when you understood who they were talking about.
''I thought they found a way to help him.''
''Apparently, they did, but I overheard the chief scientist talking.'' The soldier leaned forward, whispering to his friend. ''They want to see if he's gonna turn, they're gonna let him die.''
''Damn, I feel bad for him.''
The conversation went on, but you had already stormed out of the room, rushing to your superior's office.
Blood rushed through your face, your heart beating in your ears as you reached his door. You were angry, but more than that, you were suffocating. Overwhelmed with knowing they could help him, Jason could be saved but they wouldn't do it. Those bastards were gonna let a man die, a good man that served his country countless ways for two whole years. But that meant nothing to them.
You couldn't let that happen.
A strange determination flooded your body as you calmed down. You put on your sweet assistant face and knocked on the door. It didn't take long for you to get invited in.
You slowly opened the door and peeked your head.
''Am I interrupting?''
Your superior barely muttered a no as you stepped in the room, he only acknowledge your presence and lifted his head to look at you when you put your coffee and pastries on his desk.
''I thought you could use a small break.''
At this point, you didn't need your morning coffee anymore, you were wide awake and ready to fake being a kiss-ass. The older man didn't bother to say any thanks and feasted on the pastries, sipping on the coffee in between bites.
''Any updates on First Lieutenant Kolchek's illness?'' You asked in such an innocent tone.
The man chuckled, and you had to force the smile to stay on your face as you watched him with disgust.
''He ain't ill, darling. He's turning. Or at least I hope so otherwise all of that would be a waste.''
''A waste?'' You couldn't help but ask.
''Oh yeah,'' He took another sip, reading something on the files in front of him. He seemed quite uninterested in you, which was working to your advantage. ''Some Scientist in division C made some kind of vaccine...''
The man was talking slowly, spilling out a few words before reading a little more. It made your blood boil having to wait for him like that, but you needed to keep your composure, you needed to keep him talking.
''Why work on a vaccine if we won't use it?''
Your superior lifted his eyes from his files for a second to smirk at you. He was proud of himself and happy to gloat.
''We'll see what the infection does to him, hopefully, turns him into one of those creatures. Then, we can use the vaccine on him, see if he turns back... Or dies.''
You forced your smile to widen as you felt your heart-shattering.
''This genius idea must've been yours!''
''Yes.'' He smiled, taking a sip of coffee and leaning back on his chair. The man was glowing. ''Yes, it was.''
''I won't keep you longer,'' You said while getting up. ''Enjoy the pastries, I have a patient to examine.''
Your superior waved at you, his attention already back on his files. You quickly rushed out of the room. You closed the door and pressed your back against it. Closing your eyes, you took a moment to catch a breath you didn't know you had been keeping, and fought back your tears.
Monster...
You let out a sigh. Your hand grabbing your painful chest. It was weird to say, but after just one day of talking, you felt incredibly close to Jason, but not only that. Everything your superior had just said went against your morals. You felt so close to puke.
- - - - -
It took you a while to calm down, but you managed not to break into tears as you walked to Jason's room. Or cell, you should say.
When you opened the door, Jason instantly straightened up on his bed. His sweet smirk on his lips. He seemed really happy to see you, it would've warmed your heart if you weren't so focused. It didn't take the Marine long to realize something was wrong. His smile faltered.
''What's wrong, love?''
A pet name? You probably would've melted in any other situation.
''How would you steal an important vaccine probably guarded in a scientific facility where you work?''
Jason's eyes widened at your question. His mouth opened in surprise. He was clearly out of words, but worry soon knitted his eyebrows together. You lifted your hand to stop him before he spoke.
''Hypothetically.''

"Everyone is so tired, we can't go on like this." You pointed to Eric. "The exhaustion is literally palpable!"
He looked up from the maps laid on the table and lifted his eyebrows at me.
"Just like my sexual tension with the Sergeant is also 'literally' palpable?" He failed to try to say it in a mocking tone, sounding more annoyed.
You still couldn't help but chuckle at his attempt at a joke.
''More like palpable hatred, but I wouldn't be surprised if the two of you ended up together while Rachel ends up alone.''
You knew that Eric was disgusted by the thought, he hated Nick. But he still laughed with you, the idea of them together being absolutely stupid to him. It made your lips grow into a soft smile. It was nice to hear him laugh, after everything that happened, the stress of losing Rachel to Iraquis, then to Nick, he hadn't been the same. Nobody's been the same since they started this mission.
Eric let out a sigh after being done laughing at his own demise. He turned around to mimic your position. Layed against the table while facing the rest of the small camp. He looked around, his gaze falling on Jason and Nick, looking at some guns at the back of their humvee. Then his gaze soften as it fell on Rachel, sitting on the ground trying to keep the fire alive. She looked so pale, sitting on the ground because she knew she could barely stand. Vene the warmth of the fire couldn't give colors to her face.
Eric sighed once again, his gaze never leaving his wife.
''We're in deep enemy territory, out in the open, in the middle of the desert.'' He pointed to you.
''I know, you're the one who brought us here, but we've been here for a while and nothing happened.''
Eric looked at your pleading look, then back to Rachel. He pushed himself off the table.
''Everybody listens up!'' He called, making everyone merge towards him. ''Everybody is exhausted and we still to come up with a game plan. But as Y/N pointed out, we're all useless if we can't even stand anymore. So let's take shifts while the others sleep. I want two people up at all time. Nick and I will take the first one.''
Everyone nodded, seeming rather relieved to finally be able to rest. Everyone except Jason, he stood up.
''Excuse me Sir but I think we should leave this place as soon as possible. We ain't safe out here.''
''We need to rest Lieutenant, and that's an order.''
Jason shrugged, taking a step back and accepting the order. He clearly wasn't happy about it, but when his eyes met yours, his angry look softened. If you needed sleep, he wouldn't deny it from you.
You looked around, searching for a cozy place to sleep, only to realize it was pretty much hard sand everywhere. Makes sense, being in the middle of the desert. Maybe you were more tired than you thought.
As Nick and Eric walked towards the Humvee to pick up some stuff, you watched as Rachel happily laid on the ground, falling asleep almost instantly. You sighed and walked to Eric as he was about to go on a round.
''Hey!'' You called for him to wait on you. Nick stopped as well, waiting for his partner. You got close to them, not wanting Rachel to hear. You tilted your head in her direction. ''Let her sleep the whole night, I'll take her shift if needed.''
The two men looked at their lover, their gaze softening at her sight. Eric nodded to you.
''Thank you.'' They both said at the same time. They jerked their heads to stare each other down with annoyance.
''Don't kill each other tonight.'' You laughed.
You walked back towards the fire to find a place to sleep. Your gaze fell on Jason as he gently laid a blanket on Rachel. Your heart warmed up at his actions. The Lieutenant was such a caring man and you couldn't help but wish he would the same for you.
As if he heard your thoughts, Jason walked towards you and handed you another small blanket he had in his hands.
''Thank you.'' You smiled at him, feeling a small blush blooming on your cheeks as he smiled back.
''Gotta take care of the ladies.''
You laid the blanket on the sand, preferring to sleep on it instead of using it as a blanket. The fire was warm enough for you and you didn't want more sand than needed in your hair. As you sat on the ground, your eyes fell on Jason. He was laying on his side, looking at the fire. You let your eyes wander on his handsome features. You let out a chuckle when you realized he was keeping his baseball cap on to sleep. But then your eyes fell on the bare ground underneath him. Your eyebrows furrowed together in confusion.
''You don't have a blanket?'' You asked him.
Jason's gaze laid on you as he gave you a small smile.
''We only have two.''
Oh, and he gave them to you and Rachel.
You felt a sudden heat rush through your body as an idea formed in your mind.
''W-Well, we could share mine.'' You proposed with a quiet voice.
Jason's eyes widened in surprise and his mouth opened, like searching for words. He then regained his cool, clearing his throat.
''S-Sure.''
He got up and walked to you. You changed the blanket's position, making it horizontal so it would give the two of you more space. It would only be under your head and chest but you didn't really mind.
''Thanks,'' Jason said as sat beside you.
He was so close to you now, you could feel the heat of his body even more than the warmth of the fire at your side. Blood rushed to your cheeks as your heart raced. Jason was staring at you, his gaze wandering on your face, you could feel the edge of his cap brushing against your forehead. If you leaned in, you could kiss him...
''G-Goodnight!'' You quickly said.
You turned around to lay on your side, you were facing the fire, well aware of the man laying behind you. You felt him turn so you would be back to back. It truly wasn't an intimate moment between the two of you, with Rachel sleeping close, Eric and Nick walking around the camp. But you still felt like your heart was about to explode from having Jason so close to you.
You felt tired before, but now your whole body and mind were a little too self-aware of the man you secretly loved sleeping right next to you. Falling asleep was gonna be harder than you thought.
- - - - -
Nick was standing a few feet away from Eric at all time, being closer to the man made him uncomfortable, since the nature of his relationship with the man's wife. But right now was an exception. No, right now the two men were hovering over your sleeping frame lost into Jason's arms.
''Are they..''
''Spooning? Yes, I believe they are.''
Eric turned to look at Nick with a surprised expression.
''But they were sleeping back to back. I looked away for five minutes! And is she wearing his cap..?'' He exclaimed in a whisper.
''Hey, the man knows what he wants even while he sleeps I guess!''
Nick couldn't retain a laugh from escaping his lips. He quickly pressed a hand on his mouth to minimize the noise. He knew his friend, Jason was attracted to you like a magnet. He truly wouldn't be surprised if a sleeping lieutenant just rolled all the way to you to cuddle.
Jason's face was lost in your hair, seeming content. He had an arm laid under your head and the other tightly wrapped around your waist.
''They look so comfortable.''
"They look adorable,'' Eric said unknowingly out loud.
The two of you made him think of Rachel and him, when they were stupid and in love, enjoying each other at any moment of the day. Damn, he missed those times. What happened to them? while Eric was reminiscing the past, Nick was crouching to wake them up.
Eric quickly grabbed his shoulder to pull him back up.
''What the hell are you doing?'' He screamed in a whisper.
''I just wanted to wake them up,'' Nick said rather confused.
Eric let go of him and sighed, looking back towards to cute pair on the ground.
''We can't do that to them.''
Nick stared at Eric and you back and forth.
''Why not?''
''Look at them! They're sleeping so peacefully and I kinda want to see them wake up by themselves in this position.''
''Man...'' Nick sighed and rubbed his hand on his tired face. ''I just wanted some good sleep.''
Eric smiled, seeing he won the man over, even if he might've annoyed him a little. He didn't really care, as long as these two could sleep in each other's arms a little more.
Nick stepped away to go sit on the other side of the fire and Eric quickly followed. Even if he wouldn't sleep tonight, the least he could do was sit and rest.
He stared at the fire for a while, enjoying the heat hitting his legs. The camp was silent, apart from the cracking of the fire and the slight snoring of the sleepers, the night was calm. Eric felt at peace, enjoying the silence, the warmth, and the starry sky. Even Nick's presence beside him was weirdly comforting.
''Thank you.''
Nick only hummed in response, concentrating on the stick he held to play in the fire.
''I thought you didn't like Jason.'' The Sergeant suddenly said, still playing in the fire.
Eric looked at him for a while, then laid his gaze on Jason. He watched him as he tightened his grip around your, bringing you closer. He pushed his head further into your hair, clearly enjoying your scent. Eric's gaze then fell on you, and his heart softened. You were smiling in your sleep, holding Jason's hand that laid on your stomach. You looked content, at peace.
''I don't.'' He answered honestly. ''But Y/N is a sweet woman, she deserves to be smiling, even in her sleep.''
Nick looked at the man with furrowed eyebrows.
''You're the romantic type?''
''I used to be.'' Eric sighed, his eyes wandering toward the sleeping form of Rachel close by.
He never realized before coming back how much he missed her, but it was probably too late now. Their relationship was broken way before Nick arrived in the picture, it was probably a lost cause, but Eric couldn't help but hope.
''I'm sorry,'' Nick started, following Eric's gaze. ''I thought she was gonna tell you as soon as you arrived.''
''She's a complicated woman.''
Nick snorted.
''Make sure Jason doesn't make the same mistakes I did.''
The Sergeant looked at Eric. He felt a little bit of guilt building in his chest as he watched the broken man staring at Jason and you, probably seeing what once was him and his wife. Nick shooked his head.
''Don't worry about Jason. He doesn't show it, but he's a hopeless romantic.'' Nick laughed looking at his sleeping friend.
''Really?'' Eric jerked his head to look at Nick, surprised.
''Oh yeah!'' Nick laughed even more. ''You should see when he's alone with me. He talks non-stop about Y/N. Always trying to plan dates to bring her on one day. He keeps secretly doing sweet things to make her life better without her ever knowing. Like how she always has a warm coffee at her desk when she arrives in the morning. Or how he forces some of the guys to take a shower later so she can shower alone after training. Well, that's probably because he is stupidly jealous but hey, still nice.''
Eric's eyes widened at everything Nick was spilling on his friend. His laughter joined the Sergeant.
''He even buys her gifts sometimes, but he never gives them! He just hides them under his bed.''
Eric couldn't help a loud laugh to escape his lips. He quickly pressed a hand on his mouth to quiet the sound.
After a while, the laughter fell down and the calm of the night reigned once more. Eric's smile wouldn't leave his lips as he kept imagining Jason trying to hide a pile of gifts under his bed.
''I didn't know he liked her so much.'' He said.
''Oh, he doesn't like her,'' Nick answered seriously. ''The man is in love with her, head over heels. He fell hard.''
''Does she..?''
''Like him?'' Nick raised his eyebrow, a knowing smile growing on his lips. '' Oh yeah. The two of them have been chasing each other since she arrived on the team, it's painfully obvious to everyone. Except for them, of course. Y/N always comes to see me, asking what Jason likes, what she should do. It's quite annoying having the two of them constantly harassing me about the other. I got enough shit to deal with in my own relationship you know?''
Eric looked at the Sergeant, eyebrow raised. Nick suddenly caught on to what he had just said.
''Damn, I'm sorry I just... I wasn't thinking.''
''It's fine,'' Eric said, surprised that he really meant it. ''You're a good man Nick, whatever choice she makes, I'll respect it.''
Nick directed a sad smile to his Colonel, and nodded, agreeing with the man. A long silence took place between the two men, filled with respect and heavy thinking.
''We should help them.'' Eric suddenly let out.
Nick looked at him confused.
''What do you mean?''
''We should shove them in the back, help them get together!''
''Ain't that what we're doing right now?''
''Well... I guess.''
Eric went back into thinking, but the more he thought, the further he got to getting good ideas to help the two lovers. A pout formed on his lips, he was disappointed. It made Nick chuckle to see him so invested in something so trivial. Weirdly enough, Nick felt the need to help so his Colonel wouldn't be so disappointed.
''We can lock them in a room together.'' He proposed.
Eric whipped his head towards him, a big smile on his face.
''Yes!'' He said excitedly. ''And we can... Oh! Oh! We can steal some of the gifts from under his bed and give them to her in Jason's name!.''
Nick looked at him surprised.
''That's genius!''
The rest of the night went on without the two men realizing as they were busy planning how they would get Jason and you to confess to each other.
- - - - -
The warmth of the sun felt nice on your skin. You slowly opened your eyes, feeling well-rested after a nice night of sleep. You were surprised you didn't get woken up for a shift of night watch, but you didn't really mind, feeling quite happy to have slept a full night.
But something was strange. Even after years of being in the army, you never slept well on the ground, tonight seemed to be the exception.
As you tried getting up, you felt something on your waist keeping you down and tightening around you.
You felt your heart jump. An arm... An arm is wrapped around you. You suddenly got well aware of the body pressed against your back and the heat emanating from it. Well, that solves the mystery of why you slept so well.
Twisting your head as much as you could without moving too much, you tried looking at the person behind you, but all you could see was the arm wrapped around you. The arm had a very specific tattoo... Oh god.
Feeling your heartbeat racing as panic electrified your whole body, you jerked your bust up, and turned enough to be able to look at the man behind you.
Jason looked at you with a sad pout as you left the comfort of his arms. He looked well awake.
''Have you been awake?'' You asked him.
''Maybe...'' Jason sheepishly smiled.
You playfully punched his chest and sat up. trying to hide your pink cheeks and your embarrassment. You couldn't stop thinking that you had spent the night in his arms... And never sleep better in your life.
Your eyes wandered around the camp. Rachel was still sleeping, the fire was long dead and the two men who started the night watch were both asleep. Well, at least you knew it wasn't to be nice that they let you sleep the whole night.
You got up and walked towards the two men, they were sitting next to each other, Eric's head resting on Nick's shoulder. They looked weirdly close compared to the tension they had between us just the day before.
As you got closer, you saw a notepad laying in Nick's hand. Curiosity took over you as you reached for it instead of waking the men.
Your jaw dropped when you read the contents of the notepad. It was filled with stupid ideas, the title of the page being ''Y/N x Jason''. You honestly couldn't believe that these two men, who were enemies the night before, had spent the night finding ideas, trying to match you with Jason. You would've laughed if you didn't feel so horribly embarrassed. But your flustered state quickly changed when you read the last of their idea.
Anger rushed through you as you kicked the two men awake and screamed.
''LOCK HIM IN WHILE I'M IN THE SHOWER?!''
The two men barely awake from the rough kick you gave them looked at you with confused sleepy eyes.
''You look good with his cap.'' Nick yawned.
Your eyes widened as you reached for your head, feeling Jason's cap resting on your head.
''What the fuck?!''

Heyy, it's me!! First of all, I want to restate how much I love your HoA Jason fics 💞 they're literally some of my comfort fics rn!!
I was wondering if I could request a fic where reader's either a Second Lieutenant or maybe Chief Warant Officer 5. And where reader's been traning with the others in Camp Slayer for about a year, where reader and Jason's been "subtlety" flirting for a while to the point the others like merwin and joey act like wingmen?
I also saw this comment on Gab Smolders' playthrough of HoA :
Tumblr media
I thought maybe reader's callsign would be something related to lipsticks because reader loves wearing them?
Soo an idea has been running 'round my head which is about reader and jason fight one of the vampires in the assault really badass-ly and jason ends up kissing reader?
And when they reunite with Salim he's teasing Jason about the lipstick smudges on his lips/chin? Then Nick, and the Kings would have the same reaction and piece two n two together!!!
I've been imagining this for a few days now and can't let it go AAAHH no pressure in writing it though, I'm so sorry if it's too specific or long, please feel free to not write it if the concept makes you comfortable or anything. Have a nice dayyy! <3
Hella! First of all, thank you so much, it's always nice to hear that our work is loved, it really makes me happy so thank youuu!
Also, I loooove the idea! I will definitly write it and knowing myself, I'll probably need to make multiple parts of it, hope that's oki for you. I am really excited for this story, thank you for sending this request to me. Much love!

A/N: Hella Lads! I'm really sorry for being gone for a while. I got sick and I was honestly knock out for a whole week. I was putting all my strength in school and still ended up getting late in my work. I had a lot of catching up to do and little time to write. But I am finally back on track and I will try my best to write more from the time being. Thank you and enjoy!

Jason helped you slide the dead monster off of you.
''Teaches you to mess with a Marine!'' He joked, trying to ease the tension. It was mostly for him, he got so scared when he saw you getting dragged away by that creature. He couldn't think of anything else than saving you and did everything he could to make it happen. And now that he saw you were safe, he felt overwhelmed with relief.
Jason held his hand to you, still laying on the floor while taking your breath. His heart jumped, even exhausted and dusty on the floor, you were beautiful.
You slid your hand in his, and he shivered at the touch. He helped you up in one strong pull, maybe too strong he realized when you stumble onto his chest. Jason was glad you couldn't see his face as he felt the heat reddened his cheeks and ears, from the feeling of having you pressed against him.
''You alright there?'' He managed to say after a while, his voice deeper than he intended, but he couldn't hide the effect that you had on him.
''Y-Yea, fine thanks'' He heard you say as you cleared your throat.
You didn't sound fine, and Jason wanted more than anything to ask you what was wrong, but as always he couldn't. His words just stuck in his throat.
It's always been like that with you. Jason felt an incredible attraction to you, making him unable to say what he truly wanted. He wished he could tell you just how much you meant to him, how splendid he thought you were. How he loved your eyes squinter every time you laughed and the beautiful smile you made every morning while greeting everyone. But Jason was so infatuated by you that none of those words would ever leave his throat, it was impossible and he knew it. He could never tell you how much he loved you.
Jason hummed since it was all he could do. He shifted his gaze to the ground, too disappointed in himself to even look at you anymore. His eyes fell on his rifle, right, he did drop it during the fight to stab the creature with the stake. He let out a quiet sigh and picked it up, and let his gaze wander around the room, trying to find the next step. If he was alone, he would probably go back to the catacombs, see if anyone else made it, but he didn't want to risk it with you. The last thing he wanted was to see you in a life or death situation again.
His gaze fell on you and his heart jumped when he met your beautiful eyes already staring at him with a shy blush blooming on your cheeks. In that instant, Jason knew he would go crazy if he lost you...
He pointed towards a dark tunnel, the only possible way without going backward.
''Need to move,'' He ordered. He came to the realization that you had no weapon to protect yourself with, nor even a light. He checked himself for a second only to remember he gave his handgun to Rachel earlier and had nothing left for you. He thought for a second about landing you his baseball cap to at least have a tiny light. But the thought of you wearing his cap made his heart speed up and heat rise in his body. Yea, bad idea... He shook his head to make the distracting image leave his mind and gave you a sorry look. ''Stay close.''
You nodded to him. Jason took a deep breath, lifted his rifle, and started walking through the dark tunnel. He could hear your quiet steps behind him, you were following his orders, staying close to him. So close in fact that he could smell your faint sweet scent with each and every breath he took. He loved it, how could you still smell so good after being stuck in this hellhole for so long?
''I hope everyone's made it...'' He heard you sigh.
Jason abruptly stopped and looked at you over his shoulder. His heart winced at your worried features, he wanted to make you feel better more than anything.
''Me too, but I'm glad y-'' A loud screeching interrupted him. He listened closely, concentrating on the growling and trying to figure out where exactly the creature was coming from. It was way too close for comfort, especially since you had no weapon on you, he couldn't risk getting you hurt in combat, or worse...
Jason rapidly looked around, his eyes searching for a place to hide when they suddenly landed on a tight opening in the wall, deep enough to hide the both of you. He closed his lamps and grabbed your wrist, too busy dragging you to safety to think about your skin contact. He quickly slid through the opening, placing his rifle on his side, then pulled you in, placing you right in front of him.
Your chest was pressed against his, your legs intertwined. Jason really wished he could move further to step away from you, but there wasn't enough space to move an inch. You were close, so close. He could feel your heartbeat against his chest, your warmth going through his clothes, and your smell stronger than ever. Jason was absolutely engulfed by you and your proximity. He felt an intense heat rushing through his whole body, reddening his face. He didn't know how long he would be able to stay still like this while having you pressed against him. He needed to get out soon if he didn't wanna do something stupid.
You lifted your head to look at him, your nose brushing against his jaw. Jason had to look away, he knew he wouldn't be able to stare at your face from so close without kissing you.
He tried concentrating on the danger outside, trying to see the creature through the darkness. Well, he tried... But all he could think about was pressing his body against yours, even more, caressing all of your curves while tasting your lips. Jason could feel his blood rushing down to his stomach and further...
NO!
Kolchek get a hold of yourself! He thought to himself, trying to keep calm and cooling down his body. No more naughty thoughts. No.
''Is that your gun that I'm feeling or are you just happy to see me?''
Fuck! Jason jerked his head towards you, feeling the panicking flooding in him. Did he..? Did you really..? No, he kept it cool enough, you couldn't have... right?
Jason stared at you for a while until he took in your embarrassed state. You were joking. He felt relief replacing his panic. But seeing you so flustered, blush on your cheeks, it was such a good look on you. Jason wondered how good you would look heavy breathing against him, lips parted and lust filling your beautiful eyes.
He needed to know.
Without ever leaving your eyes, he pressed his body even closer to yours. Jason tilted his head down so his forehead could meet yours, and felt his cap pushed up a little with the intervention of your scalp, but he didn't care. He could feel your hot breath hitting his face, seeing your lips parted made him grin. That was a first step in the right direction. Jason could feel his heartbeat go wild while he was moving closer to you and taking in your smell and your precious image. He used to be so shy around you, but having you pressed against him, stuck in this tiny crack. It made his mind go crazy, his lust and his needs overpowering his shyness, taking control of his whole body. He couldn't think about anything except needing more, more of you.
The Lieutenant slid his leg in between yours and gripped onto your waist to pull you even closer than he thought was possible.
''K-Kolchek I-''
''Shh...''
He stopped you, pressing a finger on your soft and tempting lips. He didn't want you to break him out of his trance, he didn't want to go back to his shyness.
''Vampire's still close.'' Is all he said.
He had honestly no idea where the creature was, but as long as it wasn't disturbing the two of you, he couldn't care less.
Jason felt his hand moving to your face, in need of contact with your bare skin. He couldn't control himself as his hand brushed against your jaw, slowly moving to your cheeks. He then pushed a strand of hair behind your ear, and Jason's heart skipped a beat while doing so. He had always wanted to do this sweet gesture and he felt childishly accomplished by doing so.
He stared at you for a while, taking in all of the small details in your face, every tiny scar, every little bump, every freckle, everything that made you so breathtaking to him. He enjoyed taking in your features from so close, and he felt pride bloom in his chest as he looked at you doing the same with his own features, a heavy blush on your cheeks. Jason almost laughed as he watched your eyes widen when you realized you got caught staring.
''You know,'' He murmured. ''You put us in this tricky situation.''
You surprised him as a cheeky grin grew on your face. You grabbed onto his belted and pulled him hard towards you. Jason felt his hips hitting yours and he couldn't help the blood rushing down to this newfound friction on his crotch. He couldn't hide his shocked state as he felt his pants tightening. But he quickly regained his composure, he wasn't gonna let you toy with him like this. He tightened his grip around your waist and held your chin, your touch almost burning his skin. Jason let his eyes wander on your face before landing on your lips. They were a nice pink and looked incredibly soft, he licked his lips unconsciously. It was taking him every bit of strength not to kiss you right now. But the more he stared, the least he could control himself as he tilted his head more. You leaned in as well, making his nose brush against your cheek. His hot breath was mixing with yours, his sense of smell intoxicated by your sweet scent. He wanted to taste you so bad. Jason's whipped his glare back to meet yours, full of want.
''Fuck it.''
He swore, giving in to his impulses. His heart exploded as he crashed his lips onto yours. Eyes closed, he melted into the kiss, happy to feel you reciprocate the act. His lips moved passionately on yours, never wanting it to stop. You tasted just as sweet as your scent and Jason couldn't feel more content. He was totally engulfed in the kiss and gladly reached with his tongue when he felt your lips slightly opening. Jason could feel his whole body burning as the kiss intensified while you wrapped your arms around his neck and his heart melted when you started caressing his hair. It felt so good. His baseball cap suddenly fell off his head from your touch, and without really thinking about it, Jason quickly grabbed it in its fall, showing off his amazing reflexes while never breaking the kiss. He couldn't help but grin, feeling yet another childish pride blooming within him. You chuckled in the kiss and his heart jumped. It was such an adorable sound.
Jason pulled back, breaking the kiss as you both needed to catch a well-deserved breath. He pressed his forehead against yours, not wanting to move away from you yet. The man couldn't help but glare into your eyes, feeling his heart close to giving in to all the love he felt for you at this instant. You kissing him back, showing your feelings towards him? It was all he wanted for so long.
Jason let his hands climb up your body, brushing against every bit of skin he could, feeling every single of your beautiful curves to end up cupping your face.
He caressed your nose with his in a sweet manner, his smile growing with yours, before gently pressing a kiss on your lips. Soft and loving, he wanted you to feel his true intentions towards you, he wanted you to know the extent of his love and how much he cared for you.
"I've been wanting this for a long time." He quietly said, making your heart jump.
"Me too."
You smiled a each other for a while, then he place a light kiss on your nose. Jason never felt more content than at this moment. He had you against him, wrapped in his arms, he had kissed you. you were finally his. But as much as he wanted to keep you in here with him forever, he needed to get you out of here, he needed you back on the surface to safety. And he would make sure that then, a moment like these would be extremely frequent.
"We should head back. We ain't safe here."
Jason moved outside, quickly replacing his pants, then turned to watch you as you followed him out of your hiding place. He suddenly felt the urge to place his baseball cap on your head, he wanted to see you wear it more than anything. He knew you would look so adorable with it and he wouldn't be able to resist you... He turned his head to hide the blush on his cheeks. He needed to make it happen at some point. You, a bed, his cap? Oh god...
"Lead the way Lieutenant."
He smirked at the sound of your voice, thinking back to what had just happened between the two of you. He turned at you and winked.
"Yes Ma’am."

''Is this really necessary?'' You whined, laying down in an exhaspered way on Rachel's bed.
"Yes, it is!" The blonde said, shuffling through some bags, searching for something.
"But I don't wanna go, after tonight, when the soldiers look at me, all they'll think about is me in a stupid dress. How will I ever be respected again? I am their Second Lieutenant!"
"Even more reason to look amazing! They'll want to impress you by being good little soldiers!"
"I don't want them to try and impress me." You mumbled, crossing your arms on your chest.
"I know, I know. You're already head over heels for our dear First Lieutenant Kolchek." Your friend teased.
You blushed and rolled on the bed to lay on your stomach, hiding your face from more teasing. You knew your friend was right though. Since you first arrived at Camp Slayer and join Kolchek's team as his Second Lieutenant, you fell for the man.
Obviously, he was a nice sight for the eyes. He had such a handsome face and a nice build, you loved his sharp jaw and his expressive eyes, which he sadly hid most of the time under his cap. Let's not forget his incredibly sexy Southern accent. But that's not really what did it for you. No, what made you fall for the man was all the little things that make him who he is. When you first arrived, he took such good care of you, making you feel welcomed in the team. And the more time you passed around him the more you realized how amazing he was. Jason always took care of everyone, helping in every way he could. He paid attention to his team, making sure everyone was listened to. He was incredibly funny and also an impressive tactician. Even his slightly impatient temper and his straightforwardness added to his charm for you.
"Ah! Found it!" Rachel yelled, taking you from your reveries.
You tilted your head just enough so you could open one eye to stare at your friend. You watched her grabbing something in her bags, taking it out with a victory pose. She turned around to face you and held the piece of fabric in front of you.
"Now put it on."
"Oh hell no!" You screamed, quickly taking a sitting position and retreating to the end of the bed, as far away from the threat as possible.
"Come on!" Rachel whined. "You're gonna look absolutely stunning in this. I know a certain someone who won't be able to resist you."
Rachel's grin grew bigger with every step she took towards you. You looked away, a blush blooming on your cheeks at the thought of Jason seeing you in this dress. You looked back at your friend.
"Maybe... It won't be so bad?"

In another room not so far from there...
''This shit really necessary?'' Jason complained with puppy eyes.
''Hell yeah brother! We gotta look good for the ladies.'' Nick laughed as he observed his friend dressed like a penguin.
''I don't need that to look good, I'm not ugly like you.'' Jason started mumbling for himself, trying to fix his attire to feel more comfortable.
Nick exploded with laughter, well aware his friend was making a joke. After a little while, he wiped the tears from his eyes, recovering from all the laughing. He couldn't help but feel bad for his Lieutenant. Nick knew Jason never had great self-esteem. He never felt good enough, which was the main reason why he worked so hard and made it to First Lieutenant in only two years. He never thought he was someone interesting, making him rarely engage in small talk with people he wasn't comfortable with, even though everyone who knew him loved him and thought he was a funny man. Nick also knew Jason didn't feel handsome, he didn't think he was ugly or anything, just an average-looking man. Which made him absolutely unable to ask out a certain lady, which he had a crush on for the past two months.
Nick couldn't help but sigh, looking at his best friend fighting a hopeless war with his tie. He really wanted him to realize how much of an amazing man he was, and that he was god damn handsome! A little too handsome for Nick's liking even, since Jason always seemed to attract the eyes of the ladies when they were going out, not that he ever realized it.
The Sergeant approached his friend, grabbing his tie and making the knot in his place. When he lifted his gaze to meet Jason's worried look, Nick smiled.
''You look great Jase, you'll do just fine you'll see.''
''Thanks, Nicky.'' Jason let out with a heavy breath, trying to relax.
The Sergeant looked at his watch and raised an eyebrow.
''Your lady is waiting, let's go.''

You took a few steps into the room and stopped, taking in the sight.
It was Christmas, and to help with the troops' morale, the Captain decided to rearrange the briefing room back to its original purpose and hold a Winter Ball.
The Marines had only taken Saddam's palace a few months ago, and Christmas decorations weren't a priority in our list of shipments. But they still managed to find a rather decent-looking tree to place in a corner of the room, décorated with some armless grenades, hopefully, and ammunition crates tsking place of the gifts at the bottom of the tree.
They had made a small stage for some of the soldiers that volunteered to act as musicians, even though you were certain they prepared speakers and a playlist of songs, ready whenever they would be needed.
The middle of the room was freed of all equipment to act as a dance floor and there were small tables with bits of food and plenty of alcohol.
It looked ridiculous, making you love it even more.
The past few months had been hectic and the party was mostly to give everyone a well-deserved break. They could do whatever they wanted for the night, the only rule being: You gotta dress nicely.
You laughed at the sights of many men in suits, some looking uncomfortable, some a little too full of themselves. There were a few other women, sadly a lot less, wearing nice dresses and attracting the unwanted attention of many men. You couldn't blame them though, they were used to seeing all of you in your Marine uniform.
You heard a whistle on your left, taking you out of your observation of the room. You turned to meet, with no surprise, Merwin's gaze. He was clearly eyeing your body, laid against a table full of Rhum with a blushing Joey by his side.
"Lookin' good L.T!" He praised while offering you a glass of liquor.
You rolled your eyes but couldn't hide your smile. Merwin was a good friend and you knew the way he acted was to be taken as a compliment and not a sign of disrespect.
"I could say the same for our dear Joey, but not you, Merwin." You winked as you took the drink.
Merwin put a hand on his chest, his face torn in fake pain. The three of you explode with laughter.
Yea, you thought, maybe tonight won't be so bad.
- - - - -
Jason stood in the door frame of the ballroom, hands twitching and his heart racing. He felt Nicky pat his shoulder as he gave him a comforting smile.
"You got this."
Jason inhaled deeply, trying to calm himself and stop his hands from fidgeting.
"Yea," he started. "This ain't shit, I got this."
He felt confidence bloom inside of him as he looked around the room seaching for something on particular. When he found it, his heart stopped.
"..Fuck."
The moment his eyes laid on you, Jason's confidence melted away in record time.
You were absolutely beautiful.
You wore a nice long dress that left your shoulders along with most of your back exposed. And was you shifted on your legs, Jason caught sight of the small opening on the side of the dress, from which it was possible to see your legs underneath.
You looked absolutely radiant, your nice hair falling freely on your shoulders, a shiny smile plastered on your face. Without even realizing it, Jason started walking in your direction, cutting through the people dancing and talking in the middle of the room. He honestly couldn't see them, to him, you were the only one in the room.
- - - - -
You zoned out of the conversation Merwin and Joey were having, letting your gaze wander around the room once more. You were searching for someone, but you would never admit it.
That's when you saw him, at the opposite side of the room, standing in the door frame. Jason was looking around, clearly unsure of what to do with himself. He hadn't seen you yet.
You couldn't help but stare at him, pleased to see his hair free of his baseball cap. His brown locks looked so soft, even from afar. Your gaze fell on his beautiful features, his eyebrows were knitted together, his lips stuck in a straight line, and his eyes searching for something. He looked like a lost puppy, which made your heart flinch.
As your gaze wandered down, even more, you choked. Jason was breathtaking. Dressed in a nice black suit, it fitted him so well. Plus you had to admit, you kinda had a thing for men dressed in a suit. But Jason in a tuxedo? That was a sight that came straight out of a dream.
"Hey, drolling lady," Merwin called, taking you out of your reverie.
With a heavy sigh, your eyes left the amazing sight that was Kolchek to fall back on Merwin's ugly face. Your disgust showed on your face.
''Try to hide your love for me lady, it's overwhelming.'' Merwin jokingly let out.
''Even a Christmas miracle couldn't make anyone love your face, Merwin.''
''Ouch.''
Joey laughed, enjoying seeing his friend getting the rough end of the stick since he was always the one enduring his shit.
''Cheers to that!'' He raised his glass to you.
You cheered with Joey at Merwin's demise. Laughing as you heard him grumble while getting another glass of liquor.
''Making a toast without me?''
You jumped around at the sound of Jason's voice behind you. He was standing so close, but you never heard him approach.
You couldn't help but eye him from head to toe, melting as you found yourself infatuated by his presence. He was even more magnificent from up close.
''Those bastards were just making fun of me,'' Merwin grunted in between two large sips of his alcohol.
''Damn, I'm sorry I missed that!'' He chuckled.
His gaze left an ever-so-grumbling Merwin to meet yours. His hazel glare on you sent a shiver all over your body. Your heart skipped a beat at the sight of his hesitating smile.
"Lieutenant." He said with palpable nervousness in his voice
"Lieutenant." You smiled, a shy blush blooming on your cheeks.
"Fucking weirdos, just kiss already." You barely heard Merwin and Joey leave the two of you alone. Jason didn't seem to realize either since his gaze never left yours.
"Would you come dance with me?" He asked with a weak voice. You felt your heartbeat speed up.
"Is that an order or an offer?" You jokingly asked.
"An orde- oh I mean i-its uh... whatever you want it to b-be." He stuttered, clearly flustered.
You gave him a shy smile, which he mirrored. He offered you his hand, guiding you to the dancefloor.
You couldn't really hear the music, only the sound of your own heartbeat. But it didn't matter. Jason slowly slid his hands around you, lightly grabbing onto your waist. The feeling of the tip of his fingers brushing against the exposed skin of your back made you shiver.
You followed his lead, wrapping your arms around his neck. You felt so comfortable and safe in his arms. And even though you felt more nervous than ever, the warmth of his body pressed against yours was the only proof for you to know this is where you belonged.
The two of you were clearly nervous, staring at each other in silence as you slow danced to the music.
''You...'' Jason bit his lips. ''You look amazing.'' He let out, his eyes glistening while looking at you.
You felt the heat rise in your cheeks and your smile growing wider.
''So do you. It's nice to see your lovely hair free of that baseball cap.'' You jokingly said, running your hand through his soft brown locks.
''I love that cap.'' He pouted, making you chuckle.
''I love it too.''
The nervousness was slowly leaving you, letting place to a gladly welcomed comfortable warmth. Without realizing it, your thoughts escaped your lips.
''You're a handsome man, but I do think your cap makes you look sexy...''
Your eyes grew wide at your revelation, you were afraid you'd scare Jason away. Only to realize it did the opposite. You watched Jason's eyebrow perked as he smirked. The man suddenly felt weirdly confident. Maybe your compliments to him helped.
His grip on your waist tightened, pulling you closer to him than before. One of his hands dangerously slid down your back, brushing your skin the whole way, sending a shiver up your spine. His hand stopped right before reaching your rear end. He was still a gentleman after all, but it didn't make a difference for your poor little heart who was about to explode.
''Does it mean it gets you hot and bothered whenever you see me with my cap?'' He asked in a low voice making his accent thicken.
You bit your lips, grinning at him, absolutely forgetting the room full of people. You could feel your heart racing and your whole body heat up, but his confidence was contagious.
''Maybe...'' You whispered to him. You leaned into him and his your face into his neck. You felt yourself engulfed by his strong musk, brushing your nose against his skin, your grin grew wider as you felt him quiver. You lightly kissed his neck.
''When you wear your cap when you wear a nice suit when your eyes linger on me for too long, or your touch...'' You kissed his neck at every enumeration, going higher and higher, past his jawline, until you brushed your lips against his.
His grip was stronger than ever on your waist, your body felt like a raging fire. You lifted your gaze to meet his. They were darkened by lust.
''Or when your sexy southern drawl takes over.''
You never left his gaze, every word making your lips brush against his. That seemed to do it for him.
''Merry Fucking Christmas.''
Jason crashed his lips against yours and you immediately leaned in. Responding to his passionate kiss with just as much fervor. You felt one of his hands caressing your back to go rest between your shoulder blades, burning your skin where it touched you.
You felt so alive as your kiss intensified, parting your lips to let his tongue brush against yours. One of your hands gripped onto his shoulder while the other was lost into his luscious locks.
Jason pulled away, leaving the both of you panting. after catching your breath again, he looked at you and all he could see was how much you wanted this. The second after, he took your lips in for another passionate kiss.
- - - - -
''Oh, shit!''
Joey turned to face Merwin, surprised by his sudden exclamation.
''What is it?'' He asked, curious.
Merwin jerked his head to look at his friend and exploded with laughter.
''I was just making a joke but they really did listen to me!'' He pointed towards the two Lieutenants on the dancefloor. ''They're really making out!''

You were laughing, your head tilted back as you lightly slapped Nicked chest. Your hand resting a moment too long on him... Way too long.
Jason was staring at the two of you from the other side of the courtyard. You all have been training for a while and were taking a break. The hit of the sun hitting hard. You went to go grab water with Nick while Jason sat on the ground against a wall, trying to stay in the cool of the shadow. But his whole body was boiling with anger. His baseball cap hid the fact that he was staring at you and Nick. Clearly flirting. Right fucking in front of him.
Saying Jason was angry is an understatement. He was heartbroken, devastated, and pissed at everything, especially you and his best friend.
When Jason first realized his feelings for you, you were all training, just like today. He was teaching you a few fightings technics. You tried to take him down, failing over and over. Getting swept off your feet and biting the dust at every try. But each time, you would just get back up with a small and ask to go again.
That day, Jason fell in love with your determination. The sun was hitting down on you, making your skin shine from all the sweat, your eyes squinted, your hair stuck to your skin showing all your efforts, and your never faltering smile. God, did he love your smile.
After that, Jason never saw you the same. He realized his eyes would always search for you first when he entered a room. He'd pay more attention to you than anyone else, try to make you smile or laugh at every chance he'd get. Whenever he knew he was the one that was putting that sweet smile on your face, his chest would puff with pride.
Jason always found himself captured by you. Watching you closely, looking at all the little details that made you, you. All your little habits, your quirks, all of your curves...
But he could never get himself to talk to you, tell you how he truly felt. How much he fucking loved you.
And he really did love you, so much that it would hurt. It left him in pain every time he'd see you get close with someone, every time he found you smiling or blushing at someone else than him.
Jason knew he was being obsessive, seeing things that weren't there. But he couldn't help it, he was so infatuated by you and it pained him so much not to have you as his.
And yet, he still couldn't bring himself to tell you. He would lie to himself, trying to convince his heart that it wasn't allowed as your Lieutenant to date you, it wasn't responsible. But deep down he knew he didn't care about the rules. He was just stupidly too shy to tell you, afraid that you would turn him down and that he wouldn't be able to see your adorable smile anymore. He couldn't dare to lose that sight.
But as time went by, Jason saw you getting closer and closer to Nick. Right after Nick told him about a secret lover he had.
You had started spending more time together, training and eating together, hang out in your free time as well. At first, Jason felt like his whole world came crashing down. Every time he saw the two of you together, he would feel his heart shatter, piece by piece until he was fully heartbroken.
But the more he watched you smile at Nick, laugh with him and be tacky to him. The more Jason's pain changed into anger.
To him, being angry was easier than devastated. It was better than admitting his jealousy. At least he could control his violent impulses better than the tears.
Or that's what he thought, until today.
Maybe it was the heat of the sun or the exhaustion from all the training, but Jason couldn't handle it anymore. He couldn't bear watching the two of you flirt right in front of him.
His anger took control of him as he quickly stood up, surprising both you and Nick as he violently punched the hard wall a few times. Leaving stains of his blood on the surface.
He was panting, fuming, and without one glance towards you, Jason left and went back inside. He heard you call him, but he decided to ignore it. Biting the inner of his cheeks to fight back the tears from his shattered heart, not caring one second about his bloodied hand.
The days went by after that and Jason did all he could to avoid you. He totally ignored you except when it was for work. Otherwise, he would ignore you calling him whenever he left a room, or you grabbing his arm as he walked past you in a hallway.
When he could, Jason acted like you weren't there, like you never existed. People started to realize after a while. They saw every time you tried to reach him, talk to him. But they also saw a change in Jason, apart from ignoring you.
They realized Jason never smiled anymore, never made jokes. He would barely speak to anyone, going straight to business and retreating back to his chambers when the day was done. Coming back the next morning as serious as ever, completely ignoring the pain his knuckles seemed to give him as fresh blood seemed to appear on them every day.
Jason used to be such an easy-going guy, making jokes one after the other, hanging out with the other Marines around the facility, it worried everyone to see him like this, like an empty shell of the man he used to be. Nick tried to reach out to his best friend, to ask him what the fuck happened to him. But Jason would just ignore it best he could until he would retreat himself in his room and lock the doors.
Locking his problems away while keeping his pain closed inside. He used to cry himself to sleep, but not anymore, he had dried out his reserves of tears a while back already.
Now, he would just punch his wall until his blood would cover the wall. It helped him deal with his anger and it kept the pain physical. He couldn't deal with the emotional pain anymore.
He was so done with everything. The Marines felt like his home, but now he just wanted to run away, just like he did when he enlisted...
- - - - -
Today, you had tried something different. You blocked his way in a door frame, making him have to stop in front of you. He asked you to move, not meeting your eyes. But when you grabbed onto his vest, he lifted his gaze to meet yours, only to see it filled with tears.
"Talk to me, please..." You begged him.
He quickly shrugged, pushing your hands off of him and pushing you aside, walking through that door frame without a word.
That night, Jason fell asleep sitting on his bed, his knees pressed against his chest with his arms wrapped around them. He had cried again. It seemed like his tears came back after all.
The next day, Jason realized that you didn't try anything to talk to him. Maybe you had finally given up.
Good, he thought, while walking back to his chambers after a long day of work. He tried ignoring the pain this realization made him feel.
Being lost in his thoughts, he didn't hear the footsteps following him. Making him more surprised than anything when he opened his door and suddenly got shoved into his room. He stumble a little before catching back his footing and whirled around to see you closed and lock the door behind you. Leaving you stuck with him in his tiny bedroom, your tiny frame blocking the door.
Jason's heart was racing, he was nervous and terrified. He didn't want to talk to you, he didn't want to have to face you. He was scared he would break right in front of you.
He watched as your face was becoming red, you looked angry. He never saw you angry before, well at least not this much. Jason couldn't help but think you looked adorable with your eyebrows knitted together and your puffy cheeks. He winced, it hurt him to even think that.
You suddenly stormed towards him, making him back down until he hit the wall behind him. You stopped barely a foot in front of him, stabbing his chest your finger pointed to him.
"What the fuck is your problem Kolchek?" You yelled.
God, you were so angry.
"It's none of your business." He replied, but his voice didn't have the strength he wanted it to have.
"None of my business you say? None of my fucking business?! You're giving me the silent treatment, to me and everyone. But mostly me! You think I'm stupid? I realized that I'm the one it started with, that you ignored the first. And it's none of my business you say!"
"Y/N, just leave the room. It's an order."
"An order?!" You squealed. "You can shove your order up your ass Lieutenant, I don't fucking care. I'm not leaving this room until you talk to me."
All of Jason's strength abandoned him in that instant. He really couldn't handle it anymore, he wanted to be done.
"I know you and Nicky are a thing!" He screamed at you. Taking a step towards you. "He told me he had a secret lover. I know it's fucking you!"
You took a step back, shocked. Jason was panting, he felt relieved getting it off his chest. The pain was still there, everything was still there. But at least, he felt a little bit of relief, something he hadn't felt in a long time.
"Were you... Were you jealous?" You asked in a quiet voice.
Jason looked away, ashamed of himself. He knew he overreacted the whole time, but the pain was too much to bear, and ignoring you had been the easiest way to ease the pain.
His lack of response gave you the answer you needed. Jason's gaze darted back at you as he heard you laughing. His eyes grew wide in confusion as you kept on laughing, louder and louder. He was too shocked to say anything as he watched you calm down, wiping the tears out of your eyes from all that laughter.
When his surprised state came to an end, he felt pain rushing in.
"A-Are you... Laughing at me?" He quietly asked, not really wanting to hear your answer.
You lifted your gaze to meet his and warmly smiled at him.
"Yes, of course, I am silly!" You giggled, taking a step to get closer to him. You pressed your hand on his chest. "It's you, it's always been you."
Jason's eyebrows darted up as his eyes grew wide while you softly pressed your lips against his. He was too shocked to reciprocate the kiss, overwhelmed by a million feelings, heart racing and butterflies filling his stomach. But one thing triggered him.
"Wait!" He said, pulling you away from him, his hands grabbing your shoulders. "Who's dating Nicky then?"
"Rachel." You laughed.
"What the fu-"
You cut him off with yet another kiss, which he finally responded to, moving his lips passionately against yours. His arms wrapped around you tightly as if he was never gonna let you go. And maybe he wouldn't actually, he needed you by his side more than anything.
He felt like his heart was about to burst.
"Is this real?" He asked, after pulling back.
"Of course, silly."
"I'm so sorry about everything, I should've never... I-I...."
"I know." You smiled at him. "I know."
For the first time since that day when he lost control, Jason smiled.

Snoring...
All Jason could hear was Nick's loud snoring. He couldn't take it anymore.
Jason pick up his pillow from under his neck and swung his arm around the slap his friend on the bunk bed above him. The hit was strong and fast. He heard Nick wake up for barely a second, mumbling something that sounded like ''Fuck you'' before the man fell back asleep. His snoring was weaker than before, but Jason knew in an hour or so it would be back at full force.
He sighed, positioning the pillow under his head again.
For the past 3 days, Jason had barely slept four hours total. He was exhausted, but sleep still wouldn't come. He felt so bored at night. Being locked up in this small room serving as a dorm, he truly didn't have much to do except listen to Nick's snore. He wondered how his friend could sleep so well after all that happened. Plus, he seemed to be the only one truly upset to be locked up by those stupid scientists. No one looked happy about it, but you all seemed to understand the situation. Jason couldn't, maybe having to deal with Nicky's snoring didn't help.
Okay, it really didn't help.
Jason couldn't wait to get out of this hell hole.
The Lieutenant let out yet another sigh. He lied before, he did have something to do at night, something he would never admit to anyone.
He turned his body to lay on his side and looked at the bed a few feet away from him. Jason loved watching you sleep. You looked like an angel with your soft features and peaceful look on your face. Every night, he would end up admiring your sleeping frame. It calmed him, knowing you were close and safe. Usually, looking at you was the only way he would end up feeling relaxed enough to finally fall asleep.
But as his gaze fell on you, he knew tonight, he wouldn't sleep.
Jason's hurt sunk when he saw your face full of sweat. Your eyebrows were knit together, your lips shut tight while your eyes seemed to look everywhere under your eyelids. You were gripping onto your blanket with such force that your knuckles were white, and you were shaking.
When he realized you were probably having a nightmare, Jason's urge to protect you grew so strong inside of him that he couldn't help but get up.
He walked up to your bed and crouched in front of you. His hand slid on top of yours, still grabbing the blanket, while his other hand went to caress your hair.
''Y/N, hey... Wake up.'' He whispered with a softness he never knew he had.
You shot your eyes open, jerked your upper body upwards. You sat on your bed, breathing heavily. You were terrified.
Jason didn't wait for permission. He sat down right behind you and pulled you into a hug. You stiffened at the action, barely realizing the embrace he was giving you.
''It's okay Doll, it's okay.''
He tried to reassure you, his grip around you tight and comforting while he was caressing your hair.
After a while, he finally felt your body lose its tension. You melted into his arms, grabbing onto his shirt tightly and resting your head in his neck.
It took him a while to feel your tears that were wetting his shirt. His heart tightened.
''You're safe here.''
He tilted his head, pressing a kiss on your head as he continued to give you a reassuring caress.
After a long moment, you pulled back from his neck to face him, never letting go of your tight grip on his shirt, but he didn't care about that. No, all he cared about was your puffy eyes and your face full of tears.
Jason always thought he was a strong man, rarely giving in to sadness or fear. But right now, he felt on the verge to cry. He hated seeing you looking so sad and terrified. His hands went up to cup your face as he tried to softly dry your cheeks from the still falling tears.
He gave you a small smile, feeling your sobbing getting weaker and weaker. Some of your hair had fallen in front of your eyes, and Jason happily pushed the stray locks behind your ears. He had always wanted to do that for you.
"You're alright.''
You sniffed and slowly nodded. As you calmed down, you finally took in your position, half into Jason's lap, pressed against his chest while he laid against the wall at the back of your bed. You felt a blush blooming on your cheeks as you quickly straightened your bust, pulling away from him by doing so, you sat in front of him.
''I'm... I'm sorry to have woken you up.'' You quietly said, lifting your gaze to meet his reassuring one.
''Don't worry about it.'' He said, omitting to tell you he wasn't sleeping, to begin with.
''A-And thank you for... You know... Helping me.''
You observed has his soft smile dropped, he frowned, looking at you with a concerned look.
''You wanna talk about it?''
''I...'' It was a kind offer and you knew he really cared and wanted to help you, but your nightmare felt so intimate, so personal, and it included him.
''It's okay Doll.'' He smiled again, his hand sliding on the bed to hold yours. ''You don't have to do it.''
His southern accent thickened from the way he whispered, hearing it felt soothing to you. You wanted to hear more.
''I just... I can't get it out of my head.'' You let out. ''What happened down there, it's gonna haunt me forever.''
''It's gonna be hard, but you'll get through it. You're a strong woman Y/N, I know you can pull through.''
You smiled at his sweet encouragements and whispered a quiet thank you. He nodded.
For a while, the two of you stayed quiet in comfortable silence. Jason seemed to be in deep thoughts, looking at Nick sleeping. As he was looking away, you admired his features. You always thought Jason was a handsome man and couldn't help but be attracted to him. But with everything that happened down in the temple, you couldn't help but feel something more towards him. The whole time down there, Jason helped you, protecting you with all his might even when it put his life in danger. He cared for you and took care of you like nobody else. If it weren't for him, you'd probably be dead.
''I can hear you thinking.''
You jumped, snapping out of your thoughts. You never realized Jason had left his observation of Nick to turn and look at you again. Only then did you really see how tired he looked.
''Isn't it affecting you too?'' You asked.
He raised an eyebrow, silently asking you to go on.
''What happened I mean. Doesn't it haunt you as well?''
Jason let out a deep sigh, closing his eyes as he ran his hand through his hair and you contemplated as his soft brown locks slowly fell back onto his forehead.
''Honestly...'' He opened his eyes, and locked them with yours. ''I haven't slept since.''
You looked at him surprised.
''It keeps me away from the nightmares at least.''
A sad smile passed on his lips and you chuckled.
''Yea, I feel you. Thanks again for waking me up.''
''Anytime Doll. I'm here for you.''
Your heart bounced in your chest. Hearing those words from him felt so nice. Jason was a man of his words and you knew he truly meant them. He proved it enough times by saving your life many times just three days ago.
You looked up to Nick sleeping like a baby and let out a deep breath.
''I keep seeing you...'' You said in such a quiet voice that Jason had to lean closer to you to be sure to catch every word. '' I see you dying over and over trying to protect me. And every time I try again and again to help you. But all I can do is hold your corpse and cry, wishing it was me instead of you.''
A heavy silence fell between the both of you. You play with your hands nervously, avoiding his gaze at the same time. but you can't help but notice his shoulders dropping from the corner of your eyes. You feel guilt building in you, maybe you shouldn't have told him he was the main cause of your nightmares.
Your heart jumps as Jason suddenly grabs you and brings you into a tight embrace. He locks you into his arms, your whole body pressed against him and your head resting on his chest. You're too surprised to feel anything else than the warmth of his body enveloping yours. Jason's body starts softly shaking, your first thought is that the man is crying. But that quickly changes when the man shuffles your hair with his hand, making a mess on your head.
You quickly pulled your head away to face him and were shocked to see him laughing in silence.
''W-Why are you laughing?''
''You're adorable!''
The heat instantly rose on your face. You tried to reply to him, something, anything. But you just lost all your words.
Jason chuckled at your shocked expression. He couldn't stop smiling while looking at you, you truly were adorable. Having nightmares of him dying, he did feel a little guilty of being the source of your bad dreams, but he was also deeply touched by your worries for him.
Jason couldn't remember anything being so scared to lose him that they had nightmares about it. To be honest, except for Nick, he never really had anyone that cared for him. But you did, it surprised him every time but he saw every little thing you did for him.
You had been moved to his team only two months ago, you didn't know each other really well but the two of you easily fell into a nice friends-coworkers relationship. You worked really well together, Jason really loved having you around. Even though it wasn't your job, you always seemed so eager to help him with his extra duties as the Lieutenant. You seemed to always know when a bunch of paperwork fell onto his desk, and without him ever asking, you'd bring him a cup of coffee. You'd always greet him first in the morning, no matter the situation you'd always be smiling at him, always followed his orders without question and you'd always stay by his side.
Maybe it wasn't a lot to most people, but to Jason? It meant everything. You were the only person always being so good to him, caring about him and understanding him. It was inevitable, without even realizing it, Jason fell for you. And after your experience down in the temple, he truly realized just how much you meant to him.
When he was down there, all that mattered to him was keeping you safe and getting you to the surface. Having you by his side was the only thing that kept him sane. As soon as you were out of sight, Jason would start getting anxious and jittery, so much that it drove Nick insane.
He was so relieved when you made it out with him, and now you were safe, in his arms, worried for him.
Oh did he fall so hard for you.
"I think I love you.'' He said.
Just like that, he let it out.
You jerked up, staring at him with wide eyes.
Jason burst out laughing, quickly hiding his mouth with his hand, trying not to make too much noise. When he calmed down, he looked back at you.
You were staring at the bed, a strange look in your eyes and your mouth turned into a pout.
''You're kidding...''
You sounded... Disappointed? Jason smiled.
His heart was racing, blood rushing to his face. He felt anxious, stressed... He felt so happy.
You felt Jason's hand cup your chin as he pulled for you to face him. You lifted your gaze to meet his loving eyes.
''I'd never joke about that.'' He leaned in. ''I love you.''
Jason's lips softly brushed against your, like asking for permission. You felt your heart burst in your chest. You closed your eyes and closed in the distance between your lips.
The kiss was tender, loving. It was all you ever wanted, more even.
You pulled back a little, your nose still brushing against his, a sweet smile on your lips. Jason smirked.
''What?'' You asked, curious.
''Adorable.''
''Oh shut up!''
Jason burst out into another laughter as you hit his chest, feeling the heat rise on your cheeks.
''You guys are cute.''
You jerked your head towards Nick who was looking at the both of you from the top of the bunk bed.
You could hear Jason laugh even harder as shyness and anger exploded in you. You quickly grip your pillow from behind Jason's back, pulling it away from under him, making him hit the wall as you threw the soft cushion straight into Nick's face.
''I hate you both!''

Jason helped you slide the dead monster off of you.
‘’Teaches you to mess with a Marine!’’
You chuckled, eyes closed, you took in a deep breathe when you got freed of the heavy weight and stayed on the ground for a solid minute, calming your heartbeat and letting the adrenaline go down. When you opened your eyes again, your gaze fell on your Lieutenant’s hand patiently waiting for you. You took his hand for him to pull you up. He put too much into it, making you unable to stand on your feet correctly as you tripped, only to catch yourself on his chest.
Your cheek was pressed on his shoulder, hands pressed against his vest while his hands griped your waist by reflex. You felt a blush blooming on your face.
‘’You alright there?’’ His deep voice made you shiver as you quickly pushed yourself away from him to regain composure, slightly looking away to hide your flustered face.
‘’Y-Yea, fine thanks.’’ You cleared your throat.
You heard Jason hummed, grateful that he didn’t push it further. That’s what you loved about him, he never pushed it further, always respecting your silence. Not once as he ever made you uncomfortable about your shyness around him, nor about your flustered face when he caught you staring, or your stuttering whenever you tried having a conversation with him.
It was clear to everyone at Camp Slayer that you had a big crush on the First Lieutenant, clear to everyone except him. Or if he knew, he hid it quite well. You were almost hurt by the lack of interest he seemed to have towards you for not noticing anything. It’s not like you were good at hiding your attraction for him. Every single time you would hear his voice, you’d unconsciously lean towards him. Every time you looked at him, you would lose yourself in his handsome features until someone would snap you out of it. And every time he touched you ever so slightly, you’d feel yourself taking by a shiver. Bur he never asked, never seemed to care.
It didn’t matter to you, your love for him kept on growing anyways. It grew every time Jason was nice to you, every time he laughed with you. He always seemed to pay so much attention to everything you would tell him, he was so friendly, so kind. But Jason is a people’s person, he was like this with everyone and you knew it. You were probably nothing special to him. But sometimes, some little times, you’d catch him looking at you from the other end of the room. You’d catch him trying to help you whenever he could, protecting you more than the others when you were on the field. But that was probably Jason being a great First Lieutenant and taking care of the greenie in the team, you.
And you were shy, way too shy to try and ask him out anyways. You heard Jason pick up his rifle from the ground and turned to look at him. His gaze was wandering around the room, his brain probably calculating what you should do. Go back to the catacombs where we got ambushed? Probably a death sentence. Stay here and wait to see if anyone came to join us? We weren’t even sure anyone else survived. The only viable option was to move forward. Jason seemed to have come to the same conclusion.
He turned his head back towards you and pointed towards the dark tunnel in front of him.
‘’Need to move,’’ He ordered. He scanned your body, noticing you had no weapons or light left on you. He checked himself a second before realizing he had nothing left to land you. He gave you a sorry smile.‘’Stay close.’’
You nodded and followed him through the dark tunnel, the only thing lighting your way being the lamp on his rifle and his cap. You quietly followed, staying one step behind him. You let your thoughts wander back to the attack in the catacombs. You sighed.
‘’I hope everyone’s made it…’’
Jason abruptly stopped in front of you, and you had to catch yourself not to bump into him. He looked at you over his shoulder, eyebrows knit together and eyes filled with concern.
‘’Me too.’But I’m glad y-’’ He got interrupted by screeching and growling sounding way too close for comfort.
Jason rapidly took in your surroundings, closed his lamps, and grabbed your wrist.
He ran to a deep opening in the wall, dragging you behind him. He slid through the opening and pulled you with him, making you slide in front of him. The crack was barely big enough to fit the two of you. It took you a moment to come out of your confusion, and your eyes grew wide when you took in your position.
Your chest was pressed against his, legs intertwined. There was absolutely no room for neither of you to move. You could feel your heart racing and your face burning, you were stuck against him, you were way too close. Jason was a few inches taller than you, making you lift your head to be able to look at him from so close. And god was he close!
Your nose brushed against his jaw as you lifted your head. Jason had his face turned towards the tunnel where you stood barely a minute ago. He was concentrating on the danger, being a good soldier, while you were completely lost. You couldn’t think about anything else than his body pressed against yours, his face less than a few inches from yours.
You couldn’t help to stare at his perfect features, and after a while, your eyes fell on his exposed neck. Your breath quickened as you felt a strange pull towards it, feeling the need to cover it with a thousand kisses.
NO!
You pushed yourself as far as you could against the wall behind you, shaking your head slightly in hopes to make those thoughts disappear. But you could still feel the warmth of his body, pressed against yours, and the smell of his southern musk invading your nostrils, keeping your mind away from any coherent thoughts. You need a distraction, you need to say something.
"Is that your gun that I'm feeling or are you just happy to see me?"
...Fuck. That's not what you meant by saying something! You felt your whole body explode from the embarrassment and your face reddened as Jason whipped his head to meet your gaze.
You expected him to move away, be disgusted, or maybe just laugh... Hopefully, thinking you were funny? But your precious Lieutenant always found a new way to surprise you. Without ever leaving your eyes, he pressed his body even closer to yours. Jason tilted his head down so his forehead could meet yours, his cap pushed up a little with the intervention of your scalp. You could feel his breath hitting your flustered cheeks and your parted lips. Your heart was beating in your ears, heat rising in you. He was so close and you couldn't help but let your gaze wander down to his lips pulled in a content grin. They looked so soft, the urge of meeting them with your own was so strong that you barely felt his leg sliding between yours. He gripped your waist with one hand and pulled you even closer, which you didn't think was possible at this point.
"K-Kolchek I-"
"Shh..."
He had pressed a finger on his lips, but he was so close to you that you felt it brush against yours. He pointed at the hallway.
"Vampire's still close."
You felt like your knees were about to give in as his southern drawl hit your face in a hot breath. You were pretty sure he was lying. You haven't heard any screeching for a while, but honestly, how could you know? Your heart was beating so loudly, you couldn't hear anything else.
The back of his hand caressed your jaw, went up your cheek to end up pushing back a strand of hair behind your ear. Jason's eyes were following the movement of his hand. You couldn't help staring at him in the meantime, taking in his handsome features. His eyebrows were often knit together, his brain always thinking. And he had the most beautiful and warm hazelnut eyes you've ever seen. His sharp jaw and his straight nose both showing you the way to his mouth pulled his usual smirk. A playful smirk that always made his dimples appear. You loved that sight, god he was a beautiful man. As you saw his smile grow wider, you lifted your eyes to meet his, realizing he had caught you staring. The red thickened on your cheeks, as you managed to stare him down.
"You know," He murmured. "You put us in this tricky situation."
Yes. Yes, you did.
A cheeky grin took place on your face. You weren't gonna let him win this. You grabbed onto his belted and pulled him hard towards you. His hips hitting yours. You watched with satisfaction as his eyes grew wide and he opened his mouth in shock. You bit your lips, holding back a chuckle. But Jason regained his composure quicker than you expected. He tightened his grip around your waist and held your chin. You saw his eyes wander on your face before stopping on your lips, making him lick his unconsciously. He tilted his head evermore, and you couldn't help but slightly move yours as well, lining into him. You could feel his nose brush against your cheek, his lips barely a centimeter away, his breath and yours mixing as one. His glare whipped back to meet yours, full of want.
"Fuck it."
He swore before quickly pressing his lips onto yours. You melted into the kiss, closing your eyes and reciprocating the act. His lips moved passionately on yours as if he was scared it would end too fast, but you didn't want it to end either. You slightly parted your lips, welcoming his tongue with yours. Your whole body felt electrified, burning with a wanting fire. Your arms wrapped themselves around his neck, one hand mindlessly caressing his hair, making his cap fall off his head. You felt one of his hands quickly move away from your waist, grabbing his falling hat with incredible reflex without ever breaking the kiss, before going back to rest on your hips. You chuckled in the kiss and you felt him grin.
He pulled back, as you were both breathing heavily. He pressed his forehead against yours. Glaring at you with loving eyes. You felt his hands climb up your body, following your curves to end up cupping your face. You could feel the fabric of his cap against your skin and it made you smile even more.
He caressed your nose with his in a sweet manner and gently pressed a kiss on your lips. This one was different than before. It was soft and loving. You kissed him back, following his lips for a while as he pulled back again. And he chuckled.
"I've been wanting this for a long time." He quietly said, making your heart jump.
"Me too."
You smiled a each other for a while, then he place a light kiss on your nose.
"We should head back. We ain't safe here."
You nodded, following him out of your hiding place with a heavy heart. You didn't want this moment to end, but you knew he was right.
"Lead the way Lieutenant."
You saw him smirk from the side as he put back his cap on top of his head. He turned at you and winked.
"Yes Ma’am."

The night went on and Jason had to as well.
Even if his heart was in little pieces, even if he felt lost without you. He had to, he had the responsibility to bring the people left back on the surface. They already lost Joey, Merwin, Clarice, Rachel, you… He couldn’t lose anyone else. Even if it meant ignoring any feeling and working on autopilot. He had to.
And he was doing that just fine while patroling with Nick around the temple, placing cameras and mines. Jason was concentrating more than ever on his work and the threat surrounding them. It made it easier for him not to think about you. Think about how he missed you, wishing he told you his feeling before. Jason’s heart tighten as he thought how he could’ve protected you better. You looked so scared when the shadows took you. If only they took him and not you, he would give up anything for you to be safe.
A scream suddenly took him out of his thoughts. Jason’s eyes grew wide as he wiped his head at Nick, confirming with one look that he had heard it as well, but also confirming the source of the scream.
‘’Y/N!’’
- - - - - -
‘’Joey! It’s me! Let me be!’’ You screamed at your fellow marine, punching his chest, trying to free yourself from his grip.
You regained conscience just a few hours ago, alone in a pool of blood. Panic grew within your chest as your last memory was Jason, looking at you with terrified eyes and a dying Merwin as you got sucked in by darkness. You were really hoping Jason was alright and that whatever got you didn’t get a hold of him, nor Nick. As for Merwin… He was bleeding so much, You weren’t a fool, the man was probably dead. You were worried for your friends, and you knew Clarice was taken as well, but you couldn’t see her anywhere and you had a really bad feeling about staying any longer in this creepy, bloody place you were in. You needed to pull your shit together. As you took in your surroundings, you noticed some kind of line out hanging high above. You’ve always been a decent climber, clearly not as good as Rachel since she always won the races you held with her, but still decent. You figured that the structure meant some kind of way back towards the tunnels you were in before being brought here, and it didn’t look that high. But honestly, anything would be better than staying in this pool of blood. It took you a while, but you managed to climb all the way up. Let’s just say the blood all over you made it quite a slippery ride. As you reached the top, you fell to the ground exhausted. ‘’Fuck..’’ You let out, taking a deep breath and closing your eyes as you felt fatigue wash all over you. ‘’I bet Rachel never climbed out of hell covered in blood, can’t wait to rub it in her face.’’ A light burst of laughter escaped your lips, but your smile fell rather fast. ‘’I hope they’re alright..’’ The sound of rapid footsteps made you stand up in a second. You felt your heart racing as you scanned the room, not seeing anything that could’ve made that noise. ‘’Anyone there?’’ You called out as you tried to get on your feet. It might’ve been smarter to hide, but you knew you didn’t have the energy to even walk towards a hidden place, and honestly? There wasn’t much place to hide. You took a slow step towards the only door you could see, but a sudden shadow on your left made you stop. The shadow was slowly creeping towards you. You squinted your eyes through the blood on your face, trying to take in the figure. It weirdly looked like… ‘’Joey?’’ You smile, feeling your whole body releasing all the tension you had built up. ‘’God, you don’t know how happy I am to see your stupid face.’’ You giggle, taking a step towards the man when you realized he wasn’t answering you. In fact, he was growling. You felt your heart drop when he stepped in the light. Joey’s skin was a deep blue, he had two little horns on his forehead and the fangs of a predator. ‘’What the fuc-’’ You couldn’t finish your sentence as the man tackled you to the ground with all his weight. He held you there as you tried to free yourself
from underneath him. You managed to push him off for a second before he jumped back on you and made the two of your roll on the line-out structure. His hands were grabbing you where ever they could as he relentlessly tried to take a bite out of your throat. Adrenaline kicked in, rushing through your veins, keeping you away from the exhaustion that you felt earlier. You grabbed onto Joey’s collar, keeping your arms as straight as possible to keep his face away from yours, but you could see yourself slowly failing at your task. Whatever happened to your friend, it made him stronger than ever before. ‘’Joey! It’s me! Let me be!’’ You screamed at your fellow marine, punching his chest, trying to free yourself from his grip. His breath was now hitting your neck, his crazy eyes now too low to get a hold of them. You had no strength left. No amount of adrenaline could help you in your state. With your eyes closed, you begged for it not to hurt when you heard a loud yell next to you and felt Joey’s weight lifted off of you. ‘’Fuck off’her!’’ Jason’s voice felt like a miracle. Your eyes opened, taking in the sight of the man kicking Joey off of you. As he fell into the abyss underneath, Jason quickly grabbed your armpits, pulling you away and back onto the ground. You couldn’t control yourself as Jason fell behind you. You jumped in his arms, wrapping yours around his neck as you shed tears of exhaustion and relief. ‘’I’m so glad you’re okay!’’ You murmured. Jason’s body stiffened at your action. He was taken by surprise, not expecting you to hug him. He nervously put his arms around you, a light touch at first, unsure if you would allow it. But the joy of seeing you alive was too much to contain, he tightened his grip around you, resting his head in your neck. ‘’Don’t ever leave me’’ Your heart skipped a beat as you pulled back to look at him. His face blushing but his eyes holding yours. Millions of emotions were running wild in your mind as you were getting lost in his beautiful eyes. Nick put his hand on your shoulder, making you jump at the feel. You never realized he was here as well. He smiled softly at you and gave you his hand, helping you up. ‘’Glad to see you alive Y/N’’ He pulled you into a quick embrace. ‘’We should go back’’ Jason got up, letting out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. ‘’Mailman to Two-One-Actual, Heading back to camp’’ He looked at you and winked, ‘’We’re bringing back a gift.’’ - - - - - Jason was holding you up and helping you walk, his arm around your shoulder while yours was resting on his shoulders. You could barely stand straight from exhaustion. But Jason kept scanning your body, scared that you were hurt more than you had said under this heavy layer of blood. Nick was a few meters in front of you, making sure the way was clear. Leaving Jason and you a little bit of privacy in the back. ‘’Thank you’’ You cleared your throat and smiled at him. Lifting his eyes to meet yours, Jason felt his heart flutter. He was terrified when he heard you scream from afar and he had run faster than ever before to be met with a horrible vision. You fighting for your life underneath Joey, and clearly losing. He had never felt more relieved than when you jumped into his arms. It was the third time in a single day that Jason almost lost you. He couldn’t bear it anymore. He really needed a break, and seeing from your exhausted look, so did you. ‘’I-I did what I had to’’ He studdered. How can you still look so beautiful covered in blood and crumbling from tiredness? ‘’I didn’t wanna lose you. I-I mean.. Lose another man!’’ You chuckled, as you took in his flustered face. Jason looked away, trying to hide himself, he couldn’t help but smile. If he had you by his side, he knew he would get through this hell. - - - - - Jason helped you walk until you reached the camp in the temple. He brought you to a tent and made you sit on an old bed. You wanted to go explore the place, but you knew you were in no condition to do so. Eric suddenly ran into the tent to come see you, you
weren’t close to the man but in this situation, it really didn’t matter. He smiled at you and patted your shoulder. ‘’Good to see another face than these two idiots’’ He laughed pointing at your friends standing behind him. They faked an annoyed look, but couldn’t hide their smirk as you laughed with Eric. ‘’We need to come up with a plan, but for now Y/N, you can rest. We’ll wake you when we need you.’’ ‘’Yes sir’’ You breathe out, falling with content on the creaky bed you were sitting on. Your eyes closed by themselves as the men left the tent to go report and make up a plan. You couldn’t care less about being left out. Right now, all you wanted was to sleep. - - - - - A weight pushing down the cushion of the bed next to you woke you up. You opened your eyes to Jason’s back. He was sitting next to you, looking at the floor. He looked so tired and overwhelmed, his eyebrows knit together and his mouth stuck into a straight line. You watched him sigh as he took off his hat to pass a hand in his soft-looking brown hair. You admired his feature from your laying position. Jason was an impressive man, you didn’t much of his past but you knew he wasn’t proud of it. He barely talked about himself before he enlisted. But it doesn’t change that the man built himself a good reputation as one of the best soldiers there were, no wonders he managed to become first lieutenant in only two years. That was no easy task. Not only was he incredible, but he was also one of the most handsome men you ever laid eyes on. He could make your heart skip a beat just with a glance. It was hard to be so attracted to him and stuck in his team as you knew you would never be more than coworkers. But you were glad to have met the man, even if it meant pain for your fragile heart. He was one of kind and you were glad to be around him. Jason put his hat back on and moved himself to face you. You quickly closed your eyes, as if you were never awake. Not wanting to be caught glaring at him, even though you knew this is exactly what he was doing now. You held back a smile. ‘’You asleep?’’ His quiet voice barely reached you, and you faked shifting your head in your sleep to be able to hear him better. He let out a heavy breath. ‘’God... I was so worried you know?’’ He wasn’t looking for an answer since he thought you were dead asleep.’’I thought I was gonna lose my mind when you disappeared into the darkness. It was driving me crazy thinking you were dead. I don’t know what I would do without you.’’ Your heart was beating so hard in your chest, you were scared he would hear it. You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. You knew Jason cared for his men, he cared more than any Lieutenant you knew. But what he was saying, whispering to you in his thick southern drawl, it was more personal, it meant more than just loyalty to his crew. You could feel it from the way he talked, and as much as you tried to stop it, you felt hope rise in your chest. ‘’And then! I hear you scream. I thought I was going crazy but Nicky heard it too. So I ran to you, I was terrified when I saw you fighting what used to be Joey… Man, poor Joey.’’ Jason got lost in his thought for a moment, searching for words. ‘’Y-You know I.. Y/N? I can’t stop thinking about you. Ever since I laid eyes on you. My life was so shit back then, and everything is a blur since a joined the Marines. I was concentrating so much on being a better person, following orders without a purpose. But you just... You just arrived like a ray of sunshine. Making everything around you bright and colorful. You made me feel things again.’’ He chuckled. ‘’I’m so freaking jealous of Nicky. Having you around him all the time, smiling and laughing. I want that too. Fuck, I want it all to myself to be honest with ya. I try... I try making you laugh. But most times I just get hypnotized in your eyes and I just forget how to talk. I’m such a fool…’’ You heard him clear his throat. ‘’I guess, what I really wanna say is… I-I wanna take you on a date. When we’re back at the surface I-I swear, I’ll ask
you.’’ You felt his hand press against the mattress close to you. Your hand gently slid on his, caressing him as you felt him jump in surprise. ‘’I’d like that too.’’ You opened your eyes to stare at him. His eyes were wider than before and his face a dark red. He cough to hide his embarrassment. You softly smiled at him as he regained his composure. Glancing between you and your hand holding his. ‘’W-We need to go help the guys with some r-radio’’ He let out. ‘’Yes sir.’’ He stood up before you, giving you his hand to help you do the same. You gladly took it and as you stood beside him, his hand holding yours for a heartbeat longer than necessary. He let it go and lead the way out of the tent. Looking at him, you’ve realized you’ve never felt so light. Jason’s monologue truly took you by surprise, and even though some part of you were still doubtful, scared to get hurt by another man, you couldn’t help but want to try. Jason was such a kind man, and he seemed so sincere, confessing to you in your sleep. You might cry for it later, but right now, you wanted nothing more than to give the man a chance. ‘’Y/N, you coming?’’ Jason asked you, taking you out of your thoughts. ‘’Yes sir.’’ You smiled and followed him out of the tent. - - - - - ‘’Well, the radio was a waste of time!’’ You grunted as you tried pushing the door shut, as the screamings of the monsters were just growing closer and closer. Jason chuckled at your comment. ‘’Put your shoulder into it!’’ He order. ‘’Hurry!’’ Eric screamed, scanning the room for any enemies. ‘’I don’t see the Iraqis.’’ ‘’Ain’t what I’m worried about right now Nicky!’’ You let out, having a lot of trouble making that damn door move an inch. ‘’If they’ve got any sense they’ll stay back. Shit’s about to get real in here!’’ The three of you pushed even harder to try and close the door. You felt it move when- ‘’Wait!’’ ‘’Rachel?!’’ Nick immediately stopped pushing, looking shocked when he saw Rachel running inside the room. As the man was reunited with his lover, you went back to help Jason close the door behind us. He nodded at you when you were both done. Thanking you for your help. You couldn’t help the pink tinting your cheeks as you saw him return the smile you were giving him. But his smile fell when he saw Nick being pushed against the door after being punched by Eric. ‘’That’s the best you got?’’ Nick smirked as he fought back. Rachel ran in between the two men, trying desperately to stop them. ‘’Stop it!’’ She ordered. ‘’I know it’s him, Rach. I know!’’ ‘’You better step off before I start swinging. Colonel or no Colonel.’’ Jason stepped in between, interrupting their love fight. He pressed a hand on Nick’s chest, silently ordering him to step down. ‘’It’s good to see you, Rachel. I thought we’d lost you.’’ Jason smiled at her. While they were discussing our losses and Rachel’s traumatizing experience, you leaned against the door, a weird feeling rising in you. As you listened closely, you heard the monsters getting louder and louder. ‘’Guys..’’ You let out. ‘’We should g-’’ Their screams grew louder than ever as they hit the doors, trying to open them. They all turned, pointing their guns at the door. Jason turned to Rachel. ‘’You armed?’’ In a swift and precise movement, he spun his handgun around his finger, handing it out to Rachel. ‘’Make sure every shot counts.’’ As Rachel took the gun, you couldn’t help but stare at the man. The way he handled that gun, you had to admit, it was hot. You grinned when his eyes met yours. He blushed and quickly looked away, scratching the back of his neck, clearly uncomfortable under the teasing look you gave him. Suddenly, the beating at the door seemed harder, and Jason instantly grew out of his embarrassed state. A true Marine, that’s for sure. ‘’All right! Fall back to the main temple.’’ You all ran towards the temple, and you followed Rachel to help her with the generator as your two friends tried closing yet another door. ‘’We gotta keep the generator running!’’ ‘’I
got it’’ You ran to the machine, looking for the problem and for a way to fix it. As you were concentrating on your job, your heard Jason complaining. ‘’Fuck! These things really have a hard-on for getting in here!’’ You laughed. Even in the worst situation, the man always had a joke in store. ‘’Generator is fucked!’’ you screamed as the door exploded, sending Jason and Eric to the ground. They rapidly got up. Running towards you. ‘’We gotta go!’’ ‘’East gate!’’ Rachel called out. You all ran towards the gate. As you were about to go through a tunnel, Jason grabbed your wrist, pulling you to his side. ‘’Stick to the walls!’’ He ordered, dragging you behind him as he kept running. As you reached the next room, you felt the ground tremble and the sound of an explosion behind you. Everyone stopped, catching up their breaths. ‘’Shh, listen,’’ Jason whispered. ‘’Can you hear them? Blast must have cut us off. We should keep moving.’’ Everyone nodded. He was about to take the lead when he realized he was still holding your wrist. He quickly let it go. ‘’Sorry.’’ You chuckled at his shy manners and followed behind him as he lead you towards the catacombs. Staring at his back, you knew you lost the battle. You fell hard for the man and it was too late to repress any feelings. At least, it seemed like he felt the same. You smile, maybe you’ll get your happy ending after all. - - - - - ‘’Well, this looks like the worst place in the goddamn world.’’ Jason breathe out, taking in the horrible place they were in. His eyes landed on your shivering frame, as you looked around, afraid. He walked towards you, staying close. His hand brushed against yours, letting you know he was there. And his heart felt lighter as he saw you slowly calm down due to his presence. The calm didn’t last for long. Screaming and screeching came crashing against the walls of the catacombs as the monsters surrounded you. Jason quickly lifted his rifle, shooting at the closest creature that was heading towards you. You retreated behind him. His back against yours to cover all surroundings. Feeling you against his back made him feel more relaxed, knowing you were still there, close to him. He would protect you, no matter what. Well, that’s what he thought until he got knocked on the ground and dragged in a hallway without being able to do anything. ‘’Jason!’’ You screamed, running after him. As you watched him disappear around a corner, your heart sank. You couldn’t let him die. You sprinted in the same direction but came to a stop when a figure suddenly stepped in your way. But you were seeing red, nothing would get in the way while you tried to go save Jason. You ran to the figure while shooting him with your rifle. He was unstable from the fire, and you easily passed beside him. The figure turned back towards you, it was about to grab you when Nick tackle it against the wall. ‘’GO!’’ He yelled at you. You nodded as a thank you and ran in the direction Jason was dragged to. - - - - - ‘’You stupid piece of shit! Let me go!’’ Jason was screaming under the creature as it locked him on the ground. He was fighting with all his might to push the creature away. And it took him a moment to realize what happened after he was freed from underneath the monster. Still on the ground, shocked, he looked at you on the back of the creature, stabbing it relentlessly with a small tackle knife. The monster finally fell on the ground beside Jason, letting out a loud cry as it died. Jason stared at it before looking up at you. Your face covered in dark blood, you smiled at him, breathing heavily, and held out your hand
to him. Jason was never more in love with you than at this moment. You risked your life for him, defeating a creature three times your size. You did this for him. He took your hand. ‘’Teach you to mess with a Marine.’’ He teased, as you pulled him back on his feet. ‘’Damn right!’’ You laughed. It was as if time had stopped. Jason couldn’t pull his eyes off of you. His gaze wandered, admiring your face and taking in as many little details as he could. He was so close to you, so close that he could feel your breath hitting his face. He felt your hand pressed against his chest, you could probably feel his heart beating like crazy in his chest like this. But he didn’t mind. Not anymore no. His eyes left yours to trail down towards your lips. Jason loudly gulped as he stared at them, dazzled by their soft appearance. He had been wanting them for so long. He felt your hand tightly grip his vest as you slightly opened your lips. His heart burst, he wanted to kiss you so badly. ‘’J-Jason..’’ Your voice was weak. Too weak. He lifted his gaze to meet yours, you looked scared. A violent cough took hold of you. Jason’s heart sank. You were couching blood. He quickly took a glance at you, scanning your body for any injuries. That was when he noticed it. A big claw was piercing through your stomach. Your shirt already turning dark red. ‘’No... No no no... NO!’’ How could he not see it? How could he be such an idiot! Jason barely heard their new Iraquis soldier friend jump on the sneaky creature standing behind you. He tackle it to the ground, making its claw violently leave your stomach. You coughed again and fell as your knees weren’t strong enough to hold your weight anymore. Jason caught you in your fall, wrapping his arms around you as he sat on the ground, holding you against him. He couldn’t care less about the fight going on next to him right now, honestly, he already had forgotten about it. All he cared about was pressing his hand against your stomach to stop the never-ending blood loss. ‘’Fuck...fuck FUCK!’’ He panicked. He could feel his heart shattering into a million pieces as he stare at your stomach. He lifted his hands, looking at them, tainted with your blood. Jason’s face was torn into a grimace, he tried fighting back his tears but they kept flooding his cheeks just like your blood was flooding the floor. How could he be so stupid? He should’ve seen it! He should’ve seen the creature, if he did, he could’ve protected you. What happened? Why the fuck is this happening! He felt a gentle caress against his cheek. He missed a breath, lifting his eyes to meet yours as your hand softly caressed his face, drying the tears coming down on it. Your gaze wouldn’t leave his. He put one arm behind your neck, as his other hand came to press itself against your cheek. You leaned into the touch, slightly closing your eyes. ‘’I’m s-so sorry…’’ He sobbed. ’’I should’ve paid more attention, I should’ve saved you. I should be able to help you. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry!’’ ‘’Shh...’’ You let out and smiled at him. ‘’It’s okay.’’ You cough and his heart shrank. He felt so guilty, oh so fucking guilty. You didn’t deserve to die like this. You couldn’t die like this. ‘’But I... I need you Y/N. I can’t go on without you.’’ He cried. ‘’I can’t lose you Y/N, I can’t. Not now, not ever. I need you. I don’t wanna lose you! I should’ve told you sooner if only I asked you out sooner. We would’ve had time together. I’m so stupid, so fucking stupid!!’’ Your smile grew bigger as you looked at him. ‘’I would’ve liked that too’’ Jason felt like his whole world was crumbling down. He stared back at you. He couldn’t comprehend how you could still look so beautiful and how you could still be smiling at him as if you were happy. But your eyes were so soft and full of love for him. He could feel it, but it could also feel you grow weaker. It was too late. ‘’J-Jason… Smile for me.’’ You cough out with obvious difficulty. Jason’s heart was screaming in pain. How could he smile? It didn’t seem possible for
him right now. But as he looked at you, with your beautiful, hopeful eyes, he couldn’t help but smile. He would do anything for you, you meant the world to him.
He leaned in and closed his eyes right before his lips softly melt into yours. You weakly kissed him back. Your lips were chapped, and the kiss tasted like a mix of tears and blood, but it was the most amazing and meaningful kiss he ever had. He held you tighter as he kept his mouth lightly pressed on yours. It was your first and last kiss together, Jason wanted to remember the sensation of your lips against his. Without opening his eyes, he pulled away to press his forehead against yours and whispered... ‘’I love you’’ He caressed your hair for a while. Feeling as much as your warmth before it left your body. When he straightened his body to look at you, he knew you were gone. Jason let a painful smile reach his lips. You looked like an angle with your eyes closed and a slight smile on your lips. He pressed another kiss on your forehead, his hand still moving in your hair as he held onto you tightly. Jason stayed on the ground a long time, caressing your hair as he let the tears flow downs his cheeks. If only he told you those three small words sooner. What could’ve been?
