im so close to starting a mighty nein rewatch. i finished my first watch seven months ago and in a few months itll be a year since i first started watching it.
i kinda wanna wait til at least after all my assignments for university are handed in - or just until summer properly starts and everyone else has moved out.
on the other hand ive been feeling like i miss them all so much, especially caleb and essek as within the past few months i have become particularly fond of wizardry both through one of my dnd characters and also through romancing gale in bg3.
i stopped my bells hells rewatch a while back, around the mid thirties because i had only really wanted to get to the laudna stuff anyways, plus watching the new eps makes it slightly confusing to my brain. but i need more dnd content to get through.
perhaps once fhjy finishes (which does kinda coincide with my assignment deadlines. almost.) then i will start rewatching the mighty nein. i think a rewatch also adds so much more to the viewing experience because you know some things now before they happen and get more context, but also you can still be pleasantly surprised by things that you had forgotten, especially if the rewatch is of something that is over 500 hours long in total.
anyways. until then, maybe i will finally watch the exu stuff. i had seen calamity, but now that the crown keepers are back i feel the need to get context! also i missed dorian so bad im so glad hes back (even if it will only be for a brief period of time)

Not to “um actually” but Um, Actually the Bad Kids didn’t have any chaperones for their Spring Break quest they had hirelings.
Sandra Lynn, Cathilda, Tracker, Ragh, and to a lesser extent, Gilear, were all technically working for the Bad Kids.
The Bad “in charge of 3 legal & 2 near-adults” Kids vs The Rat “need a chaperone because they aren’t good enough” Grinders had wildly different Spring Break quests

guillermo del toro’s pinocchio is a beautiful film but my god no one has adapted that story like neverafter. you can never look at it the same way again after listening to lou wilson, a black man, explaining that he chose to play as pinocchio because it’s a story about a little boy who isn’t allowed to make mistakes. that in pinocchio's story, he is fundamentally barred from childhood at once upon a time. he must earn something that everyone else is granted from birth. the other boys get to tell lies and play and get into trouble, but when pinocchio does the same thing there are grave and violent consequences. his pinocchio is trying to understand why the world is so unfair, why the rules are so different for him, why everyone else gets to be a real boy.
and I think about it every day.

"The rage that I feel, the stress being so high, the fuel pumping through my core, it has reached a level it's never reached before. And it is so intense that for the first time I realise that I am made of metal and wires, but I am alive. I am alive for the first time. And I am alive not because I was made by D, or Dancer, or even the Changebringer. I'm alive because they made me alive. And it's the connections that I made with all of them, and it's a feeling of joy, and I'm happy to do this. 'Cause they saved my life, and I'll save theirs."

Sam Riegel really constructed the perfect tragic character arc here. A good tragedy is one rooted in the flaws of the character, written into the bones of their personality so that their downfall feels at once inevitable and entirely preventable. And that was FCG to a T.
Because they were so convinced they were less than everyone else from minute one. They were so self-sacrificng that their central healing mechanic was built around it. And they came so far towards self-worth. They found a God and a soul, they made friends that told them how important they were. They fell in love!
But it was never enough. It was never enough because they were literally built for this. Constructed with a bomb in the center of their chest and a martyr complex and so much love. Dying for their friends was almost an inevitable conclusion.

"The red that's burning in FCG's eyes fades to white. The head turns to a smile towards all of you, as you see the energy in the core begin to [explosive noises]. Otohan, you see, notices this, and begins to pull, and you just grab her and hold her there. Before she even gets a chance to dart - [EXPLOSION] There is a ball of crackling energy that just fills the space, holding aloft and burning. [...] You all kind of catch yourself in this moment of disbelief before it stops, leaving a crater in the ground. The sound of hundreds of small pieces of metal begin to sprinkle across the room... and the charred, lifeless body of Otohan Thull, is left there."
