you ever think about the fact that the closest daniel got to winning a world championship -his dream that he sacrificed so many things for- is through hoping he's had enough of an impact on max that it mattered, hence the "if it couldn't be me, I'm glad it's him" because he's had a hand in max's career too as his first teammate at red bull
I feel like waxing poetic about carlos for a bit longer.
I think he's one of the more overlooked personalities on the grid. Not just from the point of him being slightly reduced to 'handsome sauve guy.' But also his history. His decision to go into F1 and not Rallying, and his relationship with Maria de Villota. So many details that are often missed or not known about entirely. Like how many people know about why he has the star on his helmet?
And I think that's where the misunderstanding of some of his personality comes in as well. He's a cool handsome guy, yeah, but if you read in between the cracks he is a man 'brushed with melancholy', who's 'name weighed on him', who 'keeps thinking about everything. Thinking about everything that went wrong when I go to sleep.' It feels like he's hiding a lot of himself from view.
It's part of why I'm a fan of him. I want to crack him open like an egg and see all his thoughts. He just feels so human.
I can't stop thinking about how whenever Max and Daniel are asked about the other in interviews, the attributes they highlight are often the opposite of how they portray themselves.
Starting with Max: he has said on multiple occasions that what he likes most about Daniel is that he's always laughing and brings joy and fun to everything he does. While we know that Max likes to have fun and goof around, it's not his thing to be a beam of sunlight all the time; that's just not his persona. Yet, that's what he appreciates most about Daniel, and he has no problem letting us know interview after interview.
Daniel, on the other hand, has mentioned more than once that what he likes most about Max is his candidness, how genuine and himself he is. "Max is Max" sums up what Daniel admires about him. In the end, what Daniel appreciates most about Max is his lack of performativeness. Meanwhile, Daniel is as theatrical and histrionic as it gets; that's what he's known for (I'm not saying he is disingenuous, but it's a very different way of presenting himself to the world than Max).
To top it all off, they both know they have chemistry together, and they bounce really well off each other. At first glance, these two shouldn't work together as well as they do or even like each other as much as they do, and yet, here they are.
if i had a nickel for every time george russell fucked it into the wall in the last lap when carlos sainz was winning the race, i would have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?
Are y’all aware that VCARB was Alphatauri literally 5 months ago? Why are you expecting them to magically be the best in the midfield when they’ve historically been in the exact same positions as they are this year? Just because they have SOME new parts from RBR and SOME new staff doesn’t mean they have a whole new car. All the development and problems that they’ve had last year hasn’t just disappeared. Lower your expectations!
