Really Simple Ways to Cleanse without Smoke (Cause I Don't Like Smoke)
Very short disclaimer, these are things that I do/have tried that work for me! They will not work for everyone, but I just wanted to share some ways to cleanse without smoke since not everyone can burn incense or a bundle of herbs. This is also going to talk a lot about cleaning because I personally correspond the cleanliness of my spaces with how I'm doing mentally or spiritually!
Sound. This can be anything from playing music that you like while cleaning to banging pots and pans together and yelling at bad vibes to get the fuck outta your house. I like using bells because of their history of being associated with cleansing and also they sound pretty
Opening your windows and letting the air in! Air is an awesome element and brings a bit of freshness to your home. Also, air is apart of nature, meaning by letting it in you are bonding with a bit of the nature around you
Putting an object in moonlight/sunlight. I like to think as the rays of light washing over an object like water
AIR FRESHENERS. I fucking. Love these things. Slap one in whenever you start cleaning, and when you stop take a moment to stand in the middle of your room and appreciate the new smell in the air
Lighting scented candles. This one isn't exactly smoke free, but I find it harder to smell smoke when the scent is in the air
Salt. I use salt for everything, but in cleansing you sprinkle it over what you would like cleansed, then dispose of the salt (Responsibly. Please do not pour it on the ground outside) when you believe it's all good, because the salt has absorbed all the negativity up like a sponge
Just cleaning normally. Whether it be changing sheets on your bed or vacuuming, you are getting rid of old energies and starting anew in a positive way
This is the part where I don't have much experience, but energy! I've only done energy cleansing a few times, but it is a fairly simple form of cleansing yourself and it worked well for me
Showers or baths. You're getting clean! You can imagine all of the previous day's unwanted energies getting scrubbed off as well as dirt

What to do when in a spiritual slump?
Tumblr media
Breathe. There's nothing wrong with hitting a wall, it just means something has to change and that's okay
Check other areas in your life. Is work draining you? School stressing you out? Is your relationships with other people in your life giving you what you need? Do you need a yummy snack? A little break?
Look at the work you are currently doing, do you need to spruce up your routine? Do you want to learn something new but just never got the time?
Find the excitement of your practice! Take pride in the little things of what you do. Tarot readings? Make it a cute session with candles and music, meditating? Make your surroundings peaceful play some nature music or whatever makes you feel good, remember that your practice is here for you and to change with you
Look back at your roots! Why did you start? What was it that made you fall in love with your practice
Last but not least, don't beat yourself up you're human, we feel things and we work on things nothing has to be perfect. We evolve and we learn and maybe this is a sign to change something or look back or even just rest 🫂

10 Tips For the Beginner Witch
Tumblr media
1. Don’t rush into things:
Take the time to explore and learn about witchcraft, its traditions, and practices. Resist the urge to jump into more advanced practices or take on too much at once. Start small and build your knowledge and skills gradually.
2. Don’t believe everything you read online:
Be mindful of where you get your information about witchcraft. Do thorough research and cross-check multiple sources before adopting any beliefs or practices. Remember that not everything online is reliable or accurate.
3. Don’t compare yourself to others:
Each person’s journey in witchcraft is unique, and it’s important to focus on your own growth and path. Don’t compare yourself to others or try to measure up to someone else’s standards. Embrace your own journey and celebrate your progress.
4. Don’t neglect self-care:
Witchcraft can be emotionally and mentally taxing, so prioritize self-care. Take time for yourself to recharge, meditate, and do things that bring you joy. Pay attention to your physical and emotional health and practice self-compassion.
5. Respect nature and the elements:
Witchcraft often involves working with the elements and nature, so treat them with respect. Avoid harming wildlife, littering, or engaging in practices that harm the environment. Build a relationship with nature and the elements based on respect, gratitude, and reciprocity.
6. Don’t force your beliefs on others:
Witchcraft is a personal practice, and everyone has their own beliefs and experiences. Respect the beliefs of others, and don’t try to force your own beliefs on anyone else. Be open-minded and respectful of different perspectives and approaches to witchcraft.
7. Ask for help:
The witchcraft community is a supportive and knowledgeable community. Don’t hesitate to ask for help, guidance, or advice from more experienced practitioners. Join online forums or local groups to connect with others and learn from their experiences.
8. Balance your practice with mundane responsibilities:
Witchcraft can be a fulfilling and meaningful part of your life, but don’t neglect your everyday responsibilities. Make sure to balance your practice with your job, family, and other obligations. Remember that taking care of yourself and your responsibilities is an important part of a healthy witchcraft practice.
9. Keep a grimoire or book of shadows:
Keeping a grimoire or book of shadows is a valuable tool for any beginner witch. It allows you to record your experiences, insights, and practices, and serves as a reference for your ongoing learning and development.
10. Embrace experimentation:
Witchcraft is a creative and experimental practice, so embrace your inner curiosity and explore different practices and techniques. Try out different forms of divination, herbalism, meditation, or ritual practices to find what resonates with you. Remember that experimentation and playfulness are key components of a healthy and dynamic witchcraft practice.
As you embark on your enchanting journey as a beginner witch, remember to take your time and savor each magical moment. Witchcraft is a unique and personal practice that is meant to be explored and experienced with joy and curiosity. Remember to approach your craft with wonder and gratitude for the beauty of nature and the elements. May your path be filled with enchantment and wonder as you explore the mystical world of witchcraft.

Reminder that witch labels (EG, green witch, kitchen witch, storm witch, etc.) are an extremely recent convention. If a label works for you, that's fine - but don't feel like you have to label yourself, let alone force yourself into some kind of box.

"Baby witches MUST shield!" "You need to ward your spaces!" "You guys are being so unsafe, make sure you're not getting fake messages from imposter spirits!" "Remember the threefold rule!" "Did you remember to do this 84739 step spell to kick out--"
OH MY GODS SHUT UP
Not! Everyone's! Practice! Is! Your! Practice!
Stop framing your rules as everyone else's, stop saying "witch tips" when you mean Wiccan tips or your branch of folk magik, and stop telling everyone they need to ward and look out for malicious entities. That's YOUR practice. If they didn't directly ask, and you aren't making a disclaimer that it only goes for a specific practice and not all witches? Shut up!
This has been an angry and loud witchy PSA from a pagan whose practice doesn't have "imposters" and "wards" and is really fucking sick of it

If magic is a part of nature, then it stands to reason that magic cannot do anything out of nature's laws.
I think magic is bound to the same laws the universe is. I don't think magic, if natural, can defy those laws. And I think that's the reason that magic is often misconstrued. I think people mistake that it can go out of the bounds of nature like some fantasy-magic does in books/movies. I'm not going to start flying around on a broom (though I wish I could) due to magic because the Law of Gravity exists.

I feel like these 5 things were the most important pieces for me to build the foundation of my personal witchcraft practice:
1) be curious and develop your critical thinking - ask questions. Allow yourself to follow down rabbit holes of thought. Let yourself follow link after link through Wikipedia. Fall asleep in a bed of library books with conflicting information and have the skills to sort out what’s right and true for your practice.
2)  learn a bit of the history of witchcraft - Enough to know that the “Burning Times” were not a thing, there is no unbroken line of ancient witches, that the rise of modern witchcraft and our contemporary understanding of it grew (and changed) out of the Wiccan religion from the middle of last century and filtered through the 80s “Satanic Panic” and the 90s “love and light”, that actions and beliefs that look like witchcraft exist in many folk and cultural traditions but they are only witchcraft when self identified as such.
3) The mechanics of your practice - whether it is an existing magical tradition or a practice you have built from scratch, whether is is religious or secular - know your own mechanics. Knowing mechanics isn’t the same as knowing how magic works. Knowing mechanics is understanding the why of you practice and the how you do your practice. What value do you find in techniques, correspondences, paradigms, and methods that go into your practice? Are you doing things by rote or have you found personal gnosis? That being said, you don’t owe anyone any explanation, you should just know it for yourself.
4) Know theyself- this is more than just high magick navel gazing. Know yourself and what you are capable of. What your boundaries are, how you react to certain things, whether you can actually commit to celebrating every moon cycle, setting realistic expectations and goals for yourself, learning that constantly comparing your practice to others can be a hindrance and keep you from focusing on you own practice.
5) How to claim your space - this, to me, is such an important foundation and a way to put all the other things in practice. This can be your own combination of cleansing (mundane and magical) , protecting, warding, defense, and safety. This can be applied to physical spaces and witchy spaces. This is making your house or other space your sanctuary. Also, knowing some fire safety so as to not set your claimed space on fire or knowing enough about herbs you decide to work with so as to not get poisoned.
A lot of this isn’t even spell work. It’s just study and observation. This is just a good place to start. I see a lot of witchlings scared to do spell work or not knowing where to start, just pick a direction and go. You’ll learn things along the way, sometimes not even things you were looking for. They might not be useful now, but they might later. You are building skills, and with any skills, it takes time. You should enjoy that process.

I made a concentration/focus shaker spell jar!
Ingredients: A coin: Focus now brings money later (also nice nice when shaking) Coffee Grounds: To awaken the mind Mint Leaves and Citrus rinds: Sharp mint and citrus to awaken the senses Salt: To represent smelling salts to wake up Rosemary: For focusing the mind Eggshells: Strengthen the mind and your resolve (Also good for shaking sounds!)
I sealed it with an orange candle for creativity, success and happiness. I also charged it with a Tiger’s Eye Crystal for clean, sharp focus of the mind.
I charge it in sunlight every once in a while. To use: Shake when you need a concentration and focus boost!!!
