🍉: Does your OC have a particular piece of jewelry that they always wear or refuse to part with?
I've been thinking about this one for awhile. Zrise is more sentimental than he would like to believe. But his sentimentality doesn't really extend to the jewelry itself. Hard to describe. He doesn't keep his piercings for the jewelry. He can 'part' with the metal he puts in his body but doesn't want them to close or heal. He even 'cleans' himself up and takes out the piercings on his face when he visits his family. But always wears them again when he's not around them. Realizing in this moment it's a bit interesting he's so invested in holes in his skin he got for his ex… HMMM

Genuinely woke up and still haunted by the quiz results for the swans. Here’s the results and me just rambling about them.

Love isn't a confession booth of all you are not, settle down and unclasp your hands. You're all anyone could want already.’

I’ve been thinking about this since last night. These results feel particularly heartbreaking.
Lariel who is always trying to hide her love and affection under a guise so it doesn’t make others uncomfortable or indebted to her. Afraid to put her foot down because she doesn’t want to watch it scatter. Her romance scenes are always about her trying to come out of her shell while being dangerously close to recoiling back. Trying to follow her heart but afraid she’d crush others. Drown them in her wake. She feels she’s loved people best at a distance. Forgotten, lost, invisible. Lariel watching at a distance and dreaming for what she wants has always been safer. But she’s learning to risk the heartache. Because it will be there regardless.
Afraid that if she gets too close, is too big, or asks too much, she’ll lose all she has with someone. That she’ll be alone again if she speaks her truth. Advocation of the self has always been squashed.
Zrise… the line ‘love is an endless apology’ hit me hard. That’s basically how he does see it. The confessional. It’s so wild to me because both ‘love confession’ scenes for Zrise I’ve written are also him confessing to a crime. Apologizing. The first just begging to be given an another chance. The second asking to be left behind because he’s afraid of himself. Love a tortured reminder of all his failures. His love at its best has always been a burden to others, at worst destroyed them.
Always ‘I’m sorry.’ ‘I’ll do better.’ ‘I don’t deserve your kindness.’ Never good enough. Always fighting to earn love but never feels he’s done enough.

Deeply considering something…. Some LORE…. Because I always be thinking about that damn secret ending in wotr… but not canon for her just a consideration…
It’s also on my mind because of the Godsrain Prophecies. I just think the Fates are cool. I’ve always been partial to a ‘three faced’ kind of God. I love Hecate… the triple Goddess. And now I can only think of a Chaotic Goddess who’s ever changing…. Rebirth and death… Take Lariel’s accession to the extreme. I love a God of prophecy… but the opposite of Pharasma… she wishes for those to defy the fate laid before them not be the judge… She’d probably be an enemy to Aeon’s but I think Lariel, if she had to leave behind her mortal life, would make attempts to show people the crossroads of their fate and try and help them choose a different path. Very much a mettle in the mortal realm type…
How successful she is… well Gods of prophecy aren’t necessarily known for being believed or followed… and even when they are… the prophecy comes true… just differently than envisioned…

Hi Lau! Thank you for the question! Sorry it's taking me forever to get through these! I always be rambling. Too many words. But alas I am compelled to ramble on angst.
🍋: What is your OC's most painful memory?
For Lariel she holds quite a few painful memories in her heart. Though the most painful would be the fallout of Eithon's death. Due to the trance like state she was in when she lost control of her sorcerous powers she doesn't remember his actual death in anything other than flashes of sense memory. So most of what she remembers are the days following his death.
Looking out windows as the storm she called forth still raged. The burnt oak tree. Her family not even sending his body back to Kyonin. She isn't even sure what happened to his body. There was no funeral. The guilt of his death and then just how indifferent and unconcerned her family was about it. Seeing him very much as disposable.
It changed Lariel's life. His kindness and gentle nature, in such sharp contrast to her family's cruelty. Her most painful memory in specific is when she was in the estate chapel just praying and praying all night to Eithon's God (Sarenrae) in hopes she could undo this. Trade her life for his. Seeing herself as worthless and he as valuable. Obviously Sarenrae did not answer this call. Lariel spent so long in there without food, drink, rest, or warmth that she got very sick after that.
For Zrise I'll pick two.
One, his death and resurrection at the hands of his mother. The helplessness, the pain, the fear. That's the moment that is the most painful in the sense it wakes him from sleep. It keeps him from resting. That basic animal instinct it taps into. The feeling of drowning. Of not being safe around the one who was supposed to raise you. It is such a primal and instinctual pain. This memory 'haunts' him more actively.
Two, Oria and Relik's death. This is more a memory that haunts him in a different sense. He barely acknowledges them. Taking up his family's practice of pretending the past didn't happen and that people are disposable. He was tasked with making the events of that night disappear. But Zrise, as cold hearted as he can be, still cared for them. (Big factor for him) He didn't WANT them to die. Nor did he WANT to kill them. This memory is why he keeps his distance. It's why he pushes others away and closes himself off. Why he stays away from Lariel. Because he fundamentally believes he IS helpless to whatever he became that day he died.
🍻: What's your OC's favorite comfort ritual? How do they calm themselves down after a rough day?
Lariel is a reader! It's her favorite escapism tactic. So if she's had a rough day and there's nothing she can do. If she wants a distraction from fretting she will read something. Sometimes that's romance novels, an arcane tome, dry historical records. Really anything. That or writing in her journal. I imagine her journal is just full of thoughts and feelings she never outwardly expresses but just writes down to get out of her system.
Zrise doesn't really have a 'comfort ritual' the small routines he has for days are less a comfort and more a necessity in his mind. Unfortunately I think Zrise's go to 'comfort' after a rough day would be a hook up. He can just kind of disassociate for hour or so. Using this to just kind of get out of his own head. Similar to when he fights or trains.

🍍: Where does your OC feel most comfortable?
This is such an interesting one. I feel like there isn't a particular place where Lariel is more comfortable than others. Though she is very uncomfortable and nervous in big groups and crowds. Easily overwhelmed by a large amounts of people. But on the flip side her 'comfort' with being alone has more to do with that it's what she's used to. It isn't very good for her I'd say. She even knows this. So I would say her most comfortable place whenever she is beside a trusted close friend.
🍓: Does your OC have any particular scents they like? Or hate?
I think Lariel tends to favor sweet and light scents with some slightly earthy or citrus notes. Jasmine, gardenia, lily, plumeria. She doesn't want it to be too strong, just a hint.
As for hates, I think she isn't that particular for the scent itself but more if it's TOO MUCH. She'll easily get a headache. Some nobles can wear a bit too much. In my mind when she finally meets Kraler it's a trait he has she hates. HAH
🍩: What's a crime your OC is most likely to commit? What's a crime they're most likely to get arrested for?
YAY! Love crimes! Honestly. I think Lariel has the vibe where she's much more likely to actually get away with something. She looks too sweet and perhaps has that air of nobility (though it's not her intention at all!) That keeps people from really pursuing arresting her. A little it the 'not worth the potential trouble' vibe. That's my hot take. They'd have to really have it out for her. Her brother though… this list would be much longer LMAO
As for crimes she'd commit: Aiding and abetting, disturbing the peace, forgery, identity theft, vandalism, loitering, trespassing, perjury, theft, evading arrest.
🍰: What's something your OC counts as unforgivable?
Such a good question for him. He has such different standards for himself vs others. Unforgivable for others to do to him… I think honestly he's got no real moral code, so usually he gets annoyed and angry with 'did you try to stop him from doing the thing he wanted to do'. But as for UNFORGIVABLE as in you've gone past the point of no return… Interesting… This is hard. He has no moral backbone… I think betrayal. If he ever felt truly betrayed by someone. When I say betrayed I mean he dropped his guard and on some level felt understood or liked by someone, and then they used that against him. Intentionally or not. What counts as a betrayal really depends on the person I think.
🍇: What sort of friend are they? Where are they in the group dynamic?
This is so funny as a question for him. He lives in an interesting limbo space that I will try to describe.
For him to consider you ‘his friend’ requires a lot. He's usually a very causal person. He hates shallow ‘pointless’ conversations. He can have them, but they mean nothing to him. He could talk to the same bartender everyday for a year and simply not give a fuck about them. If someone never goes past simple small talk he will barely remember them. It takes a lot for him to consider someone his ‘friend’. I imagine there are people who might have considered him their friend even though he will simply forget their existence once they are out of sight. He is not easily attached to others.
When he considers someone his friend he is very ‘ride or die’. But that’s because of how much it takes for him to get to that point. A 'friend' requires a level of trust and vulnerability he is not often capable of. He isn’t supposed to drop his guard or let people in, by the very nature of his work. He can’t let anyone be his ‘weakness’ so he feels he must keep people at arms length. So if he gets attached… well… then he’s a very passionate and intense kind of person.
The only time he was in a 'dynamic' he was kind of just in the group first as a joke. Like when a popular kid chooses a weirdo to keep as a pet. He was always the third wheel. I think he finds himself feeling out of place and awkward in most conversations where he's attached to someone and they are talking to someone else. If things just remained 'causal' he can more easily banter, flirtation, aggression, indifference. But if he actually gives a fuck about someone he feels very uncomfortable, because he feels like he has to hide from others, but craves that honesty and raw connection from whomever he's latched on to.

Thanks for the ask Dujour!! I answered 🍟 here! Once again Dolly rambling because can never make any answer short lmao. Sorry it's so long to anyone who reads this.
🍎: Do they share any features or traits with any family members?
Fun to have it all in one place! Yes! I’m a dork who likes to think of silly things like this! So! This will be probably way longer than it needs to be HAH. Too much info perhaps… Do I think people can inherit personality traits from people who didn't raise them? … I don't think so, but they aren't real so I shall do whatever LMAO
(Neither of the twins really took up the more detached and apathetic personalities of their elven family, but it's definitely how they were raised so it's their 'default', but they are both more passionate and impulsive.)
Lariel looks very much like a combination of her two grandmothers. With her father's coloration.
I see her having more the lightness of her build in her shoulders, wrists, ankles etc from her Elven grandmother Lahaliel. Has the pointiness of her nose. The heart shaped faced! So similar to Ordielau (who also got her mother's face shape) though most would say they look nothing alike. I think certain mannerisms she has probably remind Ianthos of his late wife. That strange thing where they never met but Lariel covers her mouth to laugh like her. Holds herself with that quiet grace much like she did.
As for the overall shape, pear shaped body she got from her father’s mother, Saesha. I imagine that's also were she (and Zrise) get their stubbornness. Lariel has her smile, lips, and cheeks. Has the slight upturned button like part of her nose. Lariel's kind of default expression is very similar to Saesha. Lariel has her pale skin, though not to her extreme. The wild whipping between gentle kindness and a powerful fury. And the sorcerer bloodline comes from her as a stormsoul sylph.
Lariel has her father's dark auburn hair and it's wavy texture. She also has his green eyes, though hers hold a slightly more blueish tint. He is also a sorcerer, so he is where Lariel inherited that.
Zrise looks a lot like his father. With certain traits from his elven side.
He has the triangular face shape of Ianthos but his chin is wider and stronger like his father. Has a very slight underbite, where his father has a more noticeable one. (When not cursed) Had his father's more ruddy skin color. Got part of the roundness, less harsh, nose from his father. He also has his father's smile. Which can be surprisingly disarming, boyish and mischievous. But not the one Zrise usually wears. Zrise has his father's eye placement. As in they way Zrise's brow comes forward and his eyes are deeper back. The strong brow being one of Banom notorious traits. It can make him come across much more unfriendly or intimidating when he wishes. Zrise also inherited his father's quick temper. Ordielau makes strange comments about Zrise's appearance as he ages and looks more noticeably like his father.
Zrise inherited his red hair (the curse makes it black) as more a combination of his elven grandmother and his father. That recessive gene just popped out for him. His grandmothers strawberry blond meeting the dark auburn meaning they both carried red. Zrise's build is a strange amalgamation. He didn't inherit the more slight elven build of narrow shoulders and hips, but he also didn't inherit his father's more top heavy build of wide shoulders narrow hips. He more so got a hybrid trapezoid.
From his elven side. He got his silver blue eyes he got from Ianthos. Got the strong nose, it's length, and downward point from him as well. Zrise has his mother's slight chin dimple. His mother and elven grandmother's lip shape.

This is such an interesting question. I think they sit on equal but opposite sides.
Lariel believes in luck in the sense of the randomness of the universe. Where you are born, who your parents are, what magic you have, what god listens to you, it's random. That's 'luck'. Not that it's something one can change or influence. She doesn't really believe in fate. Not a fan of the divine she rejects that some greater power might control your destiny. She has a strangely indifferent opinion towards luck. Things just are or are not. Things you can't change just are, but what you do with them is what matters. She does NOT view institutional or 'human' made problems as unchangeable. To be clear. More than she believes luck is irrelevant to the good deeds you do. 'Luck' might mean you are struggling to survive, she has empathy for that. And that does not mean she would not try to change the situation. But she believes in PEOPLE and the good they can accomplish over luck.
Lariel is not a very superstitious person. Despite loving stories and folklore. She views the world in very non-judgmental terms. Very passively accepting. She has curiosity. But not really interested in changing something, unless it hurts others. So she has no charms or rituals. She just looks inward for comfort. It's not about succeeding or failing. It's that she'd rather live in the world were she made the difficult choice and sacrifice for what a better world could be, than not.
Zrise says he does not believe in luck. Then turns around and says things like 'If luck is real I have the worst of it.' He deep down DOES believe in luck. But it's a hard pill to swallow. It makes him feel helpless. If every bad thing that happened to him was actually out of his control… then he's well and truly fucked. If every good thing that happens to him is only luck, fate, or destiny… then he should give up. His belief in luck harshly chafes against his wish to be in control. It's also WHY he so strongly devotes himself to a god. If it's all out of his control, he might as well have someone divinely better than him in his corner. If he must be a mere piece on the board he might as well try to ingratiate himself to the one who might move him around. This fight within him is often what can make him cycle between the two extremes of 'I must do everything I can to control my situation' and 'it's all hopeless and nothing matters I'm doomed'.
Depending on the stressful event, if its battle or something within the realm of his Goddess. He prays. Even though Calistra is not the most active or communicative Goddess. If it is something he would NOT like Calistria to be witness to… he has no comfort or ritual to turn to. He is a more superstitious person than his sister. But he is very fatalistic when it comes to his own luck. Deep down he wonders if even appealing for good luck would just turn itself around on him. Slapping him with something worse.
