8th year

it was the hottest day of the year so far at Hogwarts. People were relaxing and enjoying the sun; swimming in the black lake, sunbathing on the grass and there was a huge group of students (from all houses) playing a game of quidditch.

After the war, people who had previously been enemies, never talked before due to house rivalries became friends. Everyone was friendly to everyone - the war had brought people who, would never have been imagined to be friends, together. The golden trio were all still close, although after Hermione and Ron broke up it did leave a strain on the trio’s relationship. However, now that Hermione and Pansy, and Ron and Blaise were couples, they were closer than ever. Another strange pairing was Draco and Harry, it seemed obvious to everyone except them - they clearly liked each other, just didn’t realise what that feeling was. Harry and Ginny had ended their relationship just after the war as both of them felt like they didn’t really have a connection anymore and soon after the golden trio had become friends with their so called enemies. Draco and Harry had a great friendship with each other and always spent time together.

On the hottest day of the year, the six friends (plus Ginny, Luna and Neville) were all relaxing near the black lake when suddenly Hermione jumped up and started running towards the water, calling for the others to join. Pansy was first to follow, with Blaise and Ron close behind. After a few short moments the rest of them decided to join Hermione in the water - all except Harry and Draco.

“Come on!” everyone was calling them to join.

“you wanna go in?” Harry asked Draco,

“nope,” Draco said, popping the p.

“okay then,” Harry said whilst standing up and undressing to get in the water. Draco stared in awe. “what ya looking at?” Harry said with a grin.

“nothing!” Draco replied, blushing. He quickly looked away, not wanting to be caught looking. he had no idea what he was feeling - was it butterflies? no! Harry was just a friend.

Walking down to the water, Harry could feel eyes boring into his back and knew that Draco was staring at him. He didn’t know what he felt for Draco. he knew that he didn’t just want to just remain friends, but also didn’t know how Draco felt and if he would feel the same way.

Harry practically strutted down to the water, thinking that it was how James would do it when in reality he just looked like he was doing some sort of weird chicken walk. He only realised this, however, when he got nearer to the water and all his friends were laughing at him. He felt extremely embarrassed and awkward but just shrugged and laughed it off.

“oi mate, what’re your doing, trying to impress Malfoy?” Ron called, gaining a laugh from everyone.

“n-no, why would i do that?” Harry said, blushing a beet red. everybody just laughed at him, knowing the truth of Harry and Draco’s feelings towards each other.

The friends spent the afternoon splashing around in the water, having fun and forgetting about all their past trauma. Draco spent the rest of the afternoon reading on the shore, occasionally looking up and waving to the others.

Harry had decided he had had enough of Draco being the stubborn cow he was and hatched a plan on how to get him into the water. He swam down the beach a little way until he was out of sight of Draco and walked out of the water, up the beach. Before leaving the water, though, he cast a spell to keep some water in a bubble at the tip of his wand. Harry slowly crept up behind Draco and released the water on top of his head. Draco let out a piercing screech and jumped up, soaking. Laughing, Harry told him, “now you have to get in with us!” and ran down towards the water, Draco only a few steps behind him, screaming all manners of cuts words at Harry. Everybody was laughing and Draco had gone a deep red as he entered the water.

“see, not so bad huh, Draco?” Harry called.

“y-yes it is” Draco stammered, “i’m absolutely freezing!”

“you’ve only been in two minutes how’re you cold already?”

“I just am, alright Harry,” Draco said, laughing, “I get cold easily.”

“Too bad!”

By now, everybody else was distracted and Harry took the chance to get closer to Draco. “what’re you doing, Potter?”

“making you warmer. It’s called sharing body heat.” Harry answered sarcastically.

“Don’t be sarcastic with me, Potter” Draco said, rolling his eyes.

“Shut up and come here” Harry said moving slightly closer.

“you do realise there’s a such thing as personal space, right?”

“do you ever stop complaining?” Harry whined, “i’m trying to be nice.”

“ugh, okay” Draco replied and allowed Harry to hug him. “this… is weird”

“yeah but i bet you feel warmer, don’t you?”

“I actually do” Draco replied, laughing whilst turning red.

After a while, when Draco was warmer and everyone started to leave the water and go up to their rooms to change, Harry and Draco were left on the shore, alone again. They were throwing their usual banter around when Harry decided that he knew how he felt towards Draco.

“Hey Draco?”

“mhm” Draco hummed in reply.

“wanna -uh- go to hogsmead together sometime?”

“we go together all the time,” Draco said, not catching onto what Harry was implying.

“no- i mean like, as a date kind of thing.”

“oh- uh” Draco didn’t know how to respond to that kind of question.

“of course, if you don’t want to it’s fine and, well, i doesn’t matter-“ Harry was cut off by Draco’s lips on his. Their kiss was the slow, passionate kind, where they were in no rush to do anything but enjoy the moment. Draco was first to pull away for breath and smiled - “I would love to go to hogsmead with you, Harry.”

“oh- uh okay good i guess” Harry was nervous but also just really wanted to kiss Draco again.

“I guess we should go and get dressed, i’m freezing” Draco said with a soft smile.

With that they turned and walked up to the dorms and when they arrived they pretended not to notice the smiles they received at their dishevelled clothes and flushed faces. They also pretended not to notice Hermione handing Pansy 5 galleons under the table.
