we do not talk enough about how you get hit front and back by being a jew and supporting Palestine. For a recipe that i want to make during Shabbat I have to scroll through a jewish recipe blog and cringe at the I Stand With Israel posts and then go back.

Quite literally, that is exactly what made me an anti in the past (I’ve learned better now, and am a proshipper now).

I saw people saying proshippers were bad, that they were pedopholes and rapists and abusers. Because I didn’t know what the term proship was before I saw that, I immediately was like “oh okay, proshippers are bad, got it.” From there is was much easier to make me hate them because I already had this basis that they were awful people.

I only came out of it when I actually took the time to analyze why I hated proshippers, and if I even agreed with the concept or not. And then I realized that proshippers actually aren’t all those awful things, I’d just been lied to and didn’t actually think before agreeing with whatever I saw on the internet.

Saying these things are important, because if I hadn’t seen a different post Very similar to OP’s, I never would have gone down that thought path.

Is proshipping actually bad or did someone on the internet say it was bad and you just don’t think for yourself?

it really is so uncomfortable being a trans man in cis centric conversations of feminism. I just wonder. do they know about people like me? do they care? if I brought it up to them, how would they react? Do they expect me to be their human shield?

(for the purposes of this poll, there is no monkey's paw situation: the chore you pick stays the same level of difficulty/grossness/etc. as it normally is for you, and you only have to do it as often as you want to. the chores you don't pick are magically done for you exactly the way you'd want them to be, just with zero effort on your part.)

Disabled people deserve government assistance and benefits. Even if they have incomes. Even if their spouses have incomes. Even if both they and their spouses have incomes.

Because being disabled is fucking expensive, even with affordable healthcare, even under the best circumstances and in the most accessible situations.

As someone who got a wheelchair pretty recently, it was Wild to see how people treated me differently

Went from people ignoring/avoiding me (which I appreciate honestly people are scary) to people approaching and asking if I need help/want them to push me (no???)

And the smiling thing, and talking to me in a higher voice thing also definitely happen

It's amazing how differently people treat you based on what mobility aid you're using. When I'm using my cane I get funny looks from people because I'm a young person and "do you really need that?". Almost nobody holds the door for for me and when I drop something almost nobody helps me pick it up.

When I'm using my forearm crutches people are a little nicer but not by much. I get less funny looks and more people hold the door for me, but still hardly anyone helps me pick up stuff I drop. And if I'm out alone shopping or something, nobody helps me reach stuff on high shelves unless I ask. I get not wanting to come off as ableist by offering to help, but if you see someone clearly struggling you might want to step in.

Now when I'm using my wheelchair, that's a whole different ballgame. Almost everyone is holding doors, helping me pick up stuff, helping me with high shelves, and being really nice to me. But people often infantilize me when I'm using a wheelchair. They always smile at me, which sounds nice, but it's usually in a way you would smile at a little kid out in public. If I'm with someone then people will talk to them instead of me, and if I'm alone people will talk slowly to me or in a high pitched voice.

It's literally not that hard to be normal around disabled people I just don't get it.

Not to be a Boomer but your social media should be your own space, not something employers are allowed to look at to judge you beyond the qualifications stated in your resume and cover letter

I’m not sure who needs to hear this but it’s normal and okay to be DISABLED by your DISABILITY.

Sometimes it is going to stop you from doing things, and that’s okay. Sometimes it’s going to get in your way or make you struggle or cause problems in your life. But that’s okay, that’s why it’s called a disability.

You don’t need to fight yourself or “not let it hold you back” because a lot of times it will, but that’s the point.
