👏🏻👏🏻Academy Awards review 👏🏻👏🏻
[this is my humble opinion, if you don’t agree that’s okay (of course)]
Best picture: Green Book
I watched all the nominated movies and I was all for Green Book! Such an amazing story, with great actors that gave us a wonderful portrayal. I really didn’t think Green Book could win, because it was really the best movie: it was not as loved by the public as Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star is Born and Black Panther were, and it was not as loved by the critics as Roma was. But for me, with BlacKkKlansman and Vice as close seconds, Green Book was really the best! I loved it so much, it was able to warm my cold heart. I’m so happy with this choice!
Best Actress: Olivia Coleman
I really think Olivia was the best actress this year, she did a wonderful job portraying Queen Anne and, just as Rachel and Emma, was simply amazing. I loved the Favourite for the acting mostly (since I’m not such a big fan of English humor!) and I’m so happy they recognized it, even if it was just for this category. Regardless, Olivia was really deserving of this award and I’m so happy she got it!
Best Actor: Rami Malek
Let’s start by saying that I really love Rami and he is an amazing actor that deserves lots of prizes. But this year I think there were at least two actors more deserving of an Oscar: Viggo Mortensen and Christian Bale. They both went through a physical transformation for their movies and (Viggo especially) had to learn different accents or even different languages! Viggo is killing it in these last years and he his really deserving of an award. Christian Bale was also amazing, portraying an important figure of American politic. I feel like Bale and Mortensen were robbed this time. Special mention to Willem Dafoe, I didn’t see the movie he was in, but I heard it was really beautiful!!
Best Supporting Actress: Regina King
I loved Regina King in If Beale Street Could Talk but I’m not completely satisfied with the Academy’s choice. As I said before, I really would have liked for the Academy to recognize the amazing acting in The Favourite, and especially Rachel Weisz’s, because she was truly amazing. This time, though, I don’t feel like anybody was robbed; Regina was great!
Best Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali
I was so sure about Mahershala winning, it didn’t surprise me one bit hearing his name. He is a great actor and deserved this Oscar more than anyone else. Sure, Adam Driver and Sam Rockwell were great too, but Mahershala can give such brilliant performances and make you feel real emotions. I’m really happy with him winning this award!
