So, we all love Gale’s mirror image/simulacrum, and how the ‘certain measure of Gale’s personality’ that he retains is Gale’s sweet, dorky charm…but is Gale himself aware of this?
I don’t believe we ever see Gale actually interact with his mirror image, as it always appears as a replacement when Gale is elsewhere.
It’s possible Gale has always just assumed he’s created this 100% straightforward, serious mirror image who radiates scholarly intelligence…because surely, that’s the aspect of his personality that it would pull from, right?
Imagine if one night, after Gale and Tav are married and living in Waterdeep, they start reminiscing about their romance. Tav brings up their first night together, and mentions how surprised they were to see Gale’s mirror image standing in his place at camp.
Gale is pleased, and says with a gentle laugh that he hopes Tav wasn’t too intimidated by his simulacrum’s stoic nature.
To which Tav responds oh no, not at all! They loved how adorable he was, and they still remember the cute pose he did to represent Gale’s personality!
Gale (perplexed): …darling, whatever do you mean? What pose…?
Cue Tav, perfectly miming this:

Lae'zel's character and her entire situation at the beginning of the game becomes so much more funny when you find out she's 22. It makes so much sense. Imagine you're 22 and you're exposed to this dangerous toxin or chemical or something - but not to worry, you learnt that this can be easily fixed, you just need to dial 911 real quick. Common knowledge. Everyone knows that. You learnt that in kindergarten, it's up there with fire alarm drills.
But the people you're stuck with have no concept of modern medicine and when you say "let's go to the hospital" they will say shit like "i think they kill people at the hospital" and "we should ask this swamp lady" or "this guy over there told me about this homoeopathic healer kind of guy but he got abducted" or "this random bard wants to help" and "I'm not going to dial 911 because I don't want the government to know my home address" or "maybe we should consider a deal with Satan". And then a bunch of them KEEP consuming the chemical because it makes them "stronger". One guy might explode for unrelated reasons. You have a few days before this situation is getting critical and suddenly they're solving crime and doing general charity for the community.
And FOR SOME REASON you still try to help these idiots and you STILL want to help them get the cure even though they all keep insisting the "doctors" at the "hospital" might try to "kill them" and they don't have insurance. And you keep telling them to just. go. to. the. hospital. before the time runs out and you all die very horribly of a very treatable condition.
And also you're 22 in a foreign country and you're responsible for shepherding this gaggle of idiots who are all ranging anywhere from 24 to 240 years old.

Going through the Spider Matriarch fight again was hilarious. I have no idea how Marcio managed to do this. I think his AI made him jump off the edge to get closer? Yeah, none of that went as planned.

Ohhh, I'm rereading Mystra's entry in the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide... and this detail:
This means Gale was punished for trying to restore and preserve what he thought was a lost piece of Mystra's magic. Gale being Mystra's ex-lover put aside. He as her follower, she his goddess, was punished for attempting to do the one foundational rule of her faith.
I'm seething and so sad at the same time.
Edit: I used the word punish loosely, as in, toxic/abusive people will take any small mistake or action and twist it into something they can take advantage of. This post was also largely from the stand point of a toxic deity rather than a toxic partner, but both takes are valid here. Especially with the, “you didn’t stay compliant so now I’m giving you the silent treatment” part of it—from a god and a partner perspective.

Backstory:
Raised in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate, Marcio grew up with a fair share of scuffles. After a not-so-pretty encounter with the Flaming Fist, Marcio’s sentence was given mercy, and he was taken in by the Open Hand Temple.
After a decade of service turned to priest and cleric training, Marcio found himself sacrificing his freedom—to the Nautiloid—when escorting others to safety.

3) Did your Tav receive any formal or informal education? If yes, how well did they learn? If no, why not?
Marcio did not go to school as a child (living in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate). He probably went to a school house once or twice, but then completely ditched it. He did learn basic math and reading skills from his parents and other older family members. He’s not the best when it comes to books—has a hard time retaining what he’s read. However, he’s good at learning information if he’s interacting with it (cooking, gardening, and medicine for example).
As an adult, he did get a formal cleric education, you could say. Lots and lots of Ilmatari medicine and endurance training.
6) What is your Tav’s favourite childhood memory?
I think at least one favorite childhood memory would be of him baking with his mother or cousins. Baking with all of his cousins would have been messy and chaotic—flour and sugar powdered across the house and everyone’s faces. It would have been a time of no worries. I imagine he’d look back on those moments with a sense of nostalgia. A bittersweet feeling where Marcio wishes he could have appreciated just how beautiful those moments were before he grew up.
9) What was your Tav doing when they were taken by the mind flayers?
Well, after Marcio’s cough incident, he went to live at the Open Hand Temple in Rivington. There, he was mentored by Father Lorgan for a time before his official cleric training. He was just chilling, helping people out. I had written a short story for a creative writing class a few months ago where I determined he was most likely helping entertain a few kids while their parents rested (taking shelter in the temple). He was brushing out leaves and tangles from a girl’s hair, and Marcio—having a lot of curls himself—was able to do an impressive job… aaaaand then the city alarms went off. He was able to get the family to shelter, but it was at the cost of his own “demise”. A true Ilmatari way to go out get captured by mindflayers.
Maybe I’ll post the full story one day if that’s something y’all would be interested in (when I have the chance to edit his story’s changes).
