no but seriously this is what kills me about the whole thing.

like. you're immortal. you have lived forever and you will live forever. every human who's ever been born, grown up, grown old, and died has done so while you've been on earth and while you've been exactly the same. entire empires have risen and fallen over centuries, and it felt just as fleeting to you as sitting and watching a minute tick by.

but throughout all of that, there's been one thing that's stayed the same. one person who's always been there. maybe you don't see each other for a few centuries here or there, doesn't matter, it's all the same to you—but he always comes back. and even when you're not with him, you know he's on earth somewhere.

it's comforting, to have that. to grow close to that person. to know and be known, to trust and be trusted, in ways that you can't get from anyone else. the angels hate you. the other demons would stab you in the back for half a chocolate bar. the humans are nice, but they're gone in the blink of an eye. they could never understand. not the way he does.

and after you've been through everything with him, defying the direct orders of both of your superiors and choosing your own side and not theirs, in order to save the whole world that you've both grown to love—after all of that, you're finally, finally ready to have a proper conversation with him about how you really feel.

you love him. and he loves you. and you both know it, but you've never said it. in your six thousand years of ups and downs, with him being the only anchor of stability and comfort you've ever known, you've somehow never said it.
