Do you ever do something just for the challenge or opportunity to learn? . It’s been a while since I “turned” a character. It’s easy to draw a character once, but to draw it again from another angle can be difficult. I enjoyed doing that DTIYS challenge a few posts back so much, I decided to draw that knight again in another pose. I wanted to refresh that skill and see if I could do it in this style. It’s a newer style for me that I am really enjoying. I did a similar style in my Lockwood book cover. It was fun to challenge myself. And I did learn a lot! It isn’t a perfect new pose and I can see where I made some mistakes. But that was the point!! You only learn from the mistakes and the struggle. So if your trying to learn a new skill or refresh and old one, go make some mistakes!! Happy Sunday friends. It’s no secret that artists can go through a lot of highs and lows emotionally. Most creative people I know deal with depression on a regular basis. One (of many) things I do to help counter those low times is to find the things of beauty around me. I keep a sticky note by my Cintiq reminding me to do that. Sometimes I feel inspired by that note. Other times, I feel dark and resentful towards it. But! It almost always gets me noticing at least one thing each day. Regardless of my mood level. Finished! That is the end to another Inktober challenge. This was my favorite by far. I really enjoyed creating the over all piece and the smaller images. It was very satisfying to my brain. I present to you today’s image for Inktober. This one was harder to integrate into the larger piece because it is really ink heavy. If you swipe you can see I applied this image a little differently to make a border at the bottom of the kimono. So I wasn’t just doing this image once, but multiple times! Dip pens don’t like releasing a lot of ink, unless it’s a broken worn down nib, which I have for heavy ink images like this. But it still is not a paint brush and takes a lot of time to fill in the black. Also since the nib is old and broken, you have to watch out for weird bloops and blobs.
