Who: Argyle Fuentes & anyone Where: Anywhere!
“That is not cool man,” Argyle admitted with a disappointed head shake. “Just heard someone trying to dis’ the van. Homeboy doesn’t respect that I’m promoting surfer boy.” Even in Hawkins, the surfer boy van was Argyle’s pride and joy. It had been through hell and back by this point, but he still loved it like his own. “He doesn’t get that it’s a business strategy, man. The more representation they get in Hawkins, the more likely they’ll expand. I’m just trying to bring some tasty pies up here.”

Tammy had never actually gotten around to technically getting her driver’s licence. Being a country girl, she knew how to handle a stick-shift due to her dad trusting her to help out with the tractor as a kid, but she still felt jealousy towards people who could actually, well, drive. “I really like your van!”, she piped up, trying to be as supportive as possible. “I’ve never been to California, but I see your van and it’s like I’m right there!”

the perks that came from working at the hawk were far and few between. sure, max tended to get into movies before her friends and from time to time she was able to swipe movie posters, but other than that, the job had few redeeming qualities. her boss was a grade a asshole, the hours could be insane, the pay was shit, and most of the other employees were guys with way too strong of opinions on movies (and pretty much about anything else.) one thing, or rather person, that max counted as a point towards the hawk was tammy thompson. despite being drastically different, the two had come up with an oddly nice work banter. max appreciated her presence any time they were scheduled at the same time.
today, they’d been working different sections, and max’s shift was running a little later into the night. it was the thursday night from hell. usually, she could tuck herself into the ticket booth and slack off to all her hearts desires, but tonight, she’d been stationed behind the concessions counter. a wave of customers had recently passed through when max was counting popcorn kernels for inventory instead of cleaning up behind the counter. tammy’s approach snapped her away from her unproductive task and max met her by leaning over the counter, “puts us at about the same height.” she teased, then flicked her chin slightly forward, “what’s going on?”
she hardly even had to ask. tammy’s energy was a lot to handle most days, including today, but how could max meet that sunny disposition with her equal overbearing snark. her brows arched into a permanently skeptical stare as she eyed the cassette being thrusted into her hands, “wow tammy,” max breathed out, “thanks, i guess.” she flipped it in her hands and her lips curled into a tight smile as she glanced up at the blonde. country and western were without a doubt more tammy’s glass of sweet tea as opposed to max’s, but she’d put so much time into it, how could she refuse to listen? knowing she’d need something to help her get through the tracklist, max asked, “so what are your favorites on here?” maybe the favorites would actually be good.
she stuffed the tape into her pocket, fully standing up now and hopping over the counter. she wasn’t on an unauthorized break unless their boss noticed. “only women singers…” she echoed with a hum, expression vaguely impressed. she could get behind that. eyes flicking to her watch, max got an idea, “hey wanna stick around for like, an extra hour?” she wasn’t asking her to work more, but she had just found a loophole for making this enjoyable and getting some extra time out of the trailer, “we could listen together or something.” she suggested with a casual shrug. they hadn’t hung out outside of work really, but hey, she’d had weirder company before.

tammy was very aware of how short she was, and she had grown accustomed to her co-workers playful digs at this. it was a comfortable teasing, the type of joking she never really had with her friends in high school. tammy was too busy trying to play pretend with boys like steve harrington to allow herself to get too close to many girls - even platonically.
it was hard to read max at times but from what tammy could tell, the other girl seemed to at least somewhat appreciate the tape. a ‘thank you’ was still a thank you, no matter the tone or context! and who was tammy to turn down the opportunity to get another person interested in the usually-misunderstood world of country!
“well, my favorite song of all time is ‘higher and higher’ by dolly, so that’s definitely in the top! and ‘we’re all alone’ by rita coolidge is such a sweet song, rita’s voice is so mesmerizing,” tammy waxed poetic, just the mental image of rita coolidge - and her voice, of course! - was enough to get tammy’s sighing & swooning. “oh! and of course there’s ‘love is the foundation by loretta lynn! one of, if not the most beautiful songs ever written!” if tammy was being honest, she could easily call any and all of the songs on that tape her favorite. the women of country were all just too good to be compared in her eyes.
“yep! i mean, i’m human, i think john denver is one of the best performers these great states of america have ever seen, but i’ve always been more drawn to the stories the girls have to tell.” if it wasn’t for ms parton, tammy wasn’t sure where she’d be. she was the light of tammy’s life, and without a doubt the most beautiful person to ever grace god’s great earth.
tammy’s eyes widened at the idea of max actually...listening to the tape. huh, she hadn’t expected that to actually work so easily. “oh, well, yeah! that sounds perfect!’

WHO?: tammy thompson + robin buckley ( @rcbinbvckleys) WHERE?: family video
THE Thompson household had fallen back into a warm, familiar pattern from the moment Tammy arrived back on Indiana soil. She fit into the puzzle as if she had never left, which was something she appreciated.
Going back to the ways of before also meant that Thompson Family Movie Night was officially back on. Which was a little less appreciated. Not because Tammy didn’t enjoy spending time with her family! She loved her family! But Tammy could only watch Snow White and The Aristocats with her little brother and parents so many times...
After being shown The Texas Chainsaw Massacre at a party a few years ago, Tammy had fallen in love with horror movies, but she knew that attempting to watch them with anyone, let alone her Georgia-born parents, would be a recipe for a trip straight to a psychiatrist.
So, she had headed off to the local Family Video in search of a movie that she’d be able to sit through without wishing for the sweet relief of a chainsaw through the face. Tammy had almost picked up ‘Clue’, but the idea of her father trying to place Tim Curry’s face and realising he was...that character in Rocky Horror was too much to risk. Settling on ‘Labyrinth’, because despite all of David Bowie’s quirks, her parents liked his music, Tammy headed towards to counter.
“Just this one, please!”, she said, fishing through her purse for her membership card. Tammy did a quick double take at the familiar face.
“Robin! Hi!” Tammy greeted with a smile, eyes wide. “I didn’t know you worked here, but, Lord, am I glad you do! It’s so good to see you.” Tammy had scolded herself when she moved that she had never grabbed Robin’s phone number, or even her address so she could send her a postcard. Robin was the type of person that Tammy really trusted, and she couldn’t say that about many people she knew from Hawkins High. There was a kindred-ness between them that Tammy couldn’t quite place, but that she had found a lot of comfort in.
“I’m surprised you’re still here! Always pegged you as the type of ‘gal to have headed off to some fancy-pants arts school somewhere...but I’m glad you didn’t leave. Always nice to see a familiar face.”

WHO?: tammy thompson + max mayfield @zccming WHERE?: hawks cinema
TAMMY didn’t mind her job. It wasn’t anything extraordinarily hard, she knew how to work the popcorn machine and pour soda into paper cups. Plus, every now-and-then she  let herself sneak into the cinemas and catch an hour or so of whichever film was playing.
Despite that, she was still counting down the days until she could head back to Nashville. She wanted to experience a Tennessee summer, write music while drinking iced tea out on the porch and go for walks with Dolly Parton on her Walkman. Alas, it was not to be, and instead her summer was going to be spent in Hawkins. Well, she thought, there were worse places to be!
Plus, she had a fair share of nice co-workers that kept her from dying of boredom. When Tammy had first met Max, she had been scared out of her mind. It didn’t help that the younger girl was substantially taller than Tammy was, but she had put her southern nature in practice and done her best to act as kind and courteous as possible, even going so far as to let Max hear a few of her in-progress songs and Max had seemed to enjoy them which appeared to be a good sign.
As her shift came to a close, Tammy made her way up to Max, cassette tape in hand. “Max, hi!” she greeted, “I was about to head out and, um, just wanted to give you this!’ Tammy thrust the tape out. “It’s just some of my favorite songs, I know you didn’t grow up on country & western so I thought I’d give you some recommendations, that way if you ever get the chance to see me play, you’ll know some of the songs I sing that aren’t, well, mine.”
Tammy’s mouth felt dry. Was this a dumb idea? It had felt like a good idea at the time.
“It’s mostly Dolly & Loretta. Actually, it’s only women singers the more I think about it...”

who’s that? oh it’s TAMMY THOMPSON. i hear they’re TWENTY ONE and are known as THE SMALLTOWN STARLET around NASHVILLE. they’re also a CONCESSION WORKER at THE HAWK CINEMA. they’re known to be OPTIMISTIC & SELF-CONFIDENT and NAIVE & UNREALISTIC. some people say they remind them of AN OLD RECORD PLAYER PLAYING DOLLY PARTON, SHOULDER PADS, A SHOEBOX UNDER YOUR BED CONTAINING A SECRET STASH OF HORROR MOVIES & MEMORIES OF CHILDHOOD SUMMERS SPENT IN GEORGIA.
FULL NAME: tammy teresa thompson GENDER/PRONOUNS: cis female; she/her AGE: twenty one BIRTHDAY: december 4th HEIGHT:  5′2″ OCCUPATION: concession worker at hawk cinema & upcoming singer-songwriter. LIKES: country music, long walks, summer heat, comfortable shoes, the muppet show, performing, slasher films, dancing in her room to her favorite mixtapes, denim jackets, complimenting girls on their makeup and outfits in public bathrooms. ORIENTATION: closeted lesbian
In high school, Tammy knew she was going to be a star. Music brought her a joy that nothing else could, country music especially. Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn were the most wonderful women to ever grace this earth as far as she was concerned. She auditioned for school plays with songs in hopes they’d put on a musical (they never did) and wrote songs lyrics down in her notebooks during her math classes and saved up to make her way to Nashville the moment she graduated. While she knew her dreams were big, she wasn’t allowing anyone to stand in her way.
While Tammy is a lover of country & western, Atlanta summers and fashion magazines; she keeps her biggest love a secret. Horror films. She loved trying to work out how the blood & gore were created and imagining how she would escape. There was nothing like the rush of adrenaline she got from a jumpscare and a man in a creepy mask. Perhaps if she had been paying attention to all that weird stuff that had been going on in Hawkins her Senior Year she would be less inclined to watch all the slashers she does, but alas, Tammy remained blissfully ignorant.
Tammy had a very typical romantic history for a young woman. She had high school beaux, she took a nice boy to prom, she let him get to second base in his car afterwards. She was also a lesbian. But homosexuality didn’t sell, she knew that, and she wasn’t going to lose her opportunity in Nashville because of something she didn’t even want to be a part of. So, she gave big, warm smiles to boys like Steve Harrington and wrote songs about being in love with men and hoped that no one tried to analyze anything too much.
After making the move to Nashville following graduation, Tammy was able to find herself regular gigs at a nice lil’ motel alongside an up-and-coming band in need of a singer. Tammy & The Southern Suns were really gonna make it one day! Well, at least Tammy and her parents thought so! But with her manager on maternity leave, Tammy’s back in Hawkins for the time being and selling popcorn at Hawk Cinema four nights a week. Fingers crossed that nothing weird happens!
