Last Thing
While I was trying to figure out if Zam actually was a little too big, I noticed that there's this little "tail" hanging off the left cup of his headphones to make it look like a speech balloon.
I've literally never noticed it before, but it's apparently been there since the very beginning.
I dunno how, but I've just never internalized this detail until now, but it's super cute, isn't it?
#no straight roads#nsr#dj zam#zam#i guess i just don't spend that much time looking at the other characters#also is it just me#or is zam one of the most different characters between his model and his talk sprite?#i dunno. i just don't think they look the same#i kinda feel that way about gigi too but it's mostly just that his smile isn't modeled as sharply as it's drawn#zam is like totally different to me#his model is also kinda weird in other ways#it's not as detailed as the main cast#but not as undetailed as the other city npcs#and as mentioned before he's one of the few characters that t-poses instead of a-posing by default#i wonder if he was supposed to do more in earlier versions of the game#anyway i think i've decided that zam is correctly scaled#i guess he's just a bigger guy than i realized#gonna have to rectify that in future fanarts

Fictober23 day 21: "Just in case this doesn't work."

Zam just sat there in Zim's base for one of his son's planning sessions. These have been happening a lot more since they found out it was the Miyuki they both knew at the school. Mostly it was the plans that wouldn't result in either of them getting killed.
They did settle on any plan he came up with.
“Just in case this doesn’t work.”
Zim just stared at his dad. “No, Zim refuses to turn weapons off when she goes in for the attack.”
It was worth a try. I still like my plan to get drinks and see how it goes.
“Well, there is the fact she hasn’t gone back to Irk yet. She could have when she survived your blob, but she didn’t.” Well, he knows the reason she didn’t go back to being tallest again was due to the fact she was trying to find him.
Trying to find him out of extreme anger. It is a meaningful gesture considering it’s Miyuki.
"Dad, she cannot be trusted." Zim didn't even realize what he just said.
Zam’s eyes just went wide. Completely forgetting the topic they were on. “Did...did you just call me dad?”
This is the greatest day of my life. Right next to all the other things Zim has done. You know what, if Miyuki kills me tomorrow then fine. I've lived great after hearing that.
"YOU DIDN'T HEAR ANYTHING! IT'S NOTHING! FORGET EVERYTHING!" Zim just got flustered.
Zam just quickly pulled his son into a big hug. It's just one of those moments where being overwhelmed by emotion was a good thing.

(Robot & Zam scaled x0.9)
I couldn't leave well enough alone, so I tried messing with this again. (Also learned how to import the textures~)
Yesterday, I thought I'd concluded that Zam was properly scaled and was just a big guy, but I still couldn't shake that he just looked too big since I know he's not supposed to be that tall from the concept art.
So, I tried re-scaling him (and Robot) to see if that would look a little more natural, and I think it does. Maybe x0.9 is too much of a downscale, but I think it looks more accurate than the original.
(Zam + Robot adjusted for x0.95, and B2J)
I think this is probably the most accurate I can get.
I did try rescaling Gigi and Yiruk, but after I "fixed" Zam and Robot, they started to look more normal by comparison too, and the concept art does show them as on the short side anyway, so I think the new chart is more or less accurate.
