Vent shafts traveler
The inhabitants of the seventeenth block complain about the air quality, so I travel through the general ventilation shafts again. My reliable tool always with me - a telescopic three-meter probe with a pair of precise sensors and a steel claw. With its help, I explore the situation in hard-to-reach places before climbing myself: temperature, humidity, structural strength, the presence of various fungi and other living creatures.
My friend Felix often neglected safety. A month ago, his head got stuck in an old rotten pipe and he stayed there for almost five hours until the guys from the second shift found him. There were no serious injuries, but during this time some insect laid eggs in his left ear. The doctors say Felix is unlikely to return to work, so I borrowed his new overalls for now…
The environment built from white parts forces you to work with the exposure really carefully. Surfaces reflect a lot of light, glare and do it’s best to overexpose the frame. But there is also a positive point: large and powerful light sources are practically not needed here. In my case, I made do with two small LED light sources and shot at a short shutter speed.

📢 JAN CONTEST: SURREAL
Hello, community!
This is the last reminder of our bizarre, inexplicable, strange contest, that called Surreal. You still have time to participate.
One more example from me, to give you inspiration: I don’t know about you, but I have moments when my imagination refuses to give me interesting stories. Then I turn to images out of context. I just experiment with models and light to achieve some dramatic effect. This is exactly how I took this photo, the description of which was formed after the fact of its creation. Somewhere in an old mansion, otherworldly creatures are helping a ginger cat get some milk. A poltergeist who loves animals is something absolutely cute, but no less strange and inexplicable, isn't it?

Relaxing in the Pool ☀
Honestly, sometimes you just gotta take it chill like this guy. Not a care in the world could bother him right now.
The idea for a pool-side shot came from a recent shot by @yuri-badiner and the inspiration for the style and color of the shot from @rennerbricks. They are both creative and fantastic LEGO photographers that I admire.

Ditch the phone
For me a vacation definitely involves putting my smart phone away and getting out and away from anything work related.
Brickcentral’s photo challenge to celebrate Going on Vacation has inspired me to pose this shot. And @yuri-badiner’s phone shot made me think about putting my smart phone down and enjoy the company of friends of family and if there’s a pool too then that’s a bonus.

Spy scandal leaves Kremlin towers cracking
The topic of the week was definitely another large-scale espionage scandal that erupted between the United States and the Russian Federation, namely, the exposure of a high-ranking "mole", a former staffer with Vladimir Putin's administration Oleg Smolenkov, who has long provided intelligence (he had been presumably recruited back in 2000) the CIA. The CIA exfiltrated their asset from Russia to the U.S. in 2017, but the first report about the secret mission came from CNN, citing its sources, just a few days ago .
Given the scale of the CIA's penetration into the cradle of the Russian President and the status of the handled asset (he was a class 3 state adviser ), the level of scandal is unbelievable, but one interesting point slipped from almost everyone's focus.
Indeed, the CIA recruited a man who, through his immediate superior Yuri Ushakov with access to Russia's man No.1, could be aware of even those issues that were outside his rank. Indeed, Oleg Smolenkov for years had been leaking important information overseas and calmly emigrated – with U.S. support but without much fuss.
Also, (what an amazing coincidence), Oleg Smolenkov was engaged in a wider effort of serving the CIA on a silver platter the leaks of GRU special operations. It was precisely Smolenkov who exposed 12 GRU operatives who played their part in Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election in 2016.
Let me recall that in 2018 (after Smolenkov fled to the U.S.), GRU officers Viktor Netiksho, Boris Antonov, Dmitry Badin, Ivan Ermakov, Alexey Lukashev, Sergey Morgachev, Nikolai Kozachek, Pavel Yershov, Artem Malyshev, Aleksandr Osadchuk, Aleksei Potemkin, and Anatoly Kovalev were charged with conspiracy to penetrate DNC computer networks and steal documents, usernames and passwords of Hillary Clinton's campaign team, including those of campaign chairman John Podesta.
In turn, the FSB, which deals with the security and control of this kind of contacts between high-ranking officials, almost completely missed out on Smolenkov’s long-standing interaction with the CIA. The FSB also failed to prevent the esfiltration of the valuable asset to the U.S.
So the question arises, how is this possible at all? For almost 20 years, a mole siphoning data to the CIA, who seems to not have been of any interest to the FSB, at the end of its undercover career simply leaves for the "recruiting country", without any obstacles, right?
And, perhaps, this scandal, whose depth is seen both in the Kremlin, the FSB, and the GRU, will have a much greater effect on the confrontation of Kremlin Towers than did all the previous episodes.

Forever missed calls
The apartment windows on the 34th floor faced west, pleasing with a magnificent golden hour in clear weather. The wind at this altitude hurts ears. Almost no traffic noise can be heard from here, except for the pervasive wail of ambulance sirens, vainly making their way through endless lines of taxis.
The forgotten smartphone vibrated in silent mode, slowly creeping towards the edge of the table. At noon the wave of calls subsided, but towards evening it surged with renewed vigor. The more time passed, the more clearly the callers realized that no one would answer the call.
The sun set and apartment plunged into twilight. Stars filled the sky one after another. The smartphone display turned on in the dark: it was time for notifications from messengers. The gadget lasted two days and turned off without ever leaving the table.
I rarely shoot scenes without characters, but this is very interesting. Here I create a certain environment and details that do not lead to any specific story, but give the audience the opportunity to succumb to the will of the associative series and think about something of their own. The text you read is my own interpretation of this image, again, devoid of specifics so as not to influence your personal experience. I'll be glad to know what you managed to see.
The central part of the composition became a glass block wall, built with transparent baseplate 16x16 paved with 1x1 trans-brown tiles. This baseplate is quite rare part that could only be found in three sets from 2007 and 2009.

Hot Springs Journey
Since childhood, I have been a fan of the brave adventurer Johnny Thunder. He literally went through fire, water and copper pipes: Caught between burning gas burners, went through the laundry twice in the back pocket of jeans, came out unscathed from the food waste disposer. Johnny Thunder is the most durable minifigure I know. I so wanted to be like him that I looked for adventures on my head absolutely everywhere, but I never even managed to leave the children’s room. At some point, I thought - if I can't get out through the door, I still have a window! I fell out of the window of the tenth floor and for several days got home on passing stray cats. Such an event could not go unnoticed, rumors reached my idol and we finally met. Today is the happiest day of my life - Johnny took me on a trip to the kitchen sink. The sound of water and incredibly dense clubs of hot steam. I feel it in all my prints! I have no idea what's coming next, but I'm looking forward to it!
If you are few centimeters tall, traveling through an ordinary apartment can be interesting and quite dangerous. This is the story I tried to capture in this work, which was included in the LEGO In Focus book. If you have this book, I will be glad to hear about your impressions.

Memory Cells
In the relatively near future, the safest way to store data will remain physical storage not connected to any networks. And even in this future, physical storage will have an ever-increasing, but still limited capacity.
The problems of data fragmentation, the safety of the storage themselves and prompt access to them will be very relevant. Even if you place a library in outer space, you can’t be sure of absolutely anything.

Endless Tulips
Between March and May, the famous tulip fields (and not only tulips, by the way) bloom in the Netherlands. I didn't get to go there and see the riot of colors, but thanks to LEGO I can build my own. My light engine aircraft pierces the warm spring air somewhere above the Keukenhove Gardens near Amsterdam. The ringing roar of the engine attracts the attention of tourists located somewhere below. You ask: Where are the mills? It is absolutely impossible to imagine this landscape without mills! I'll suggest imagining that the mills are left out of frame :)
Perhaps this is the only work in which I used only plates, not counting the three parts in the aircraft. It was very interesting to try to create volume using only flat parts.
This photo was shot using acrylic glass. See a detailed article on this topic on the Brickcentral website.

Breakfast
When you're already up, but not yet awake :)
Perhaps the most common genre in LEGO photography is outdoor minifigures portraits. At first glance, everything seems to be very easy: place the character and shoot it. In reality, it is not so easy to take an interesting photo when you are not creating the environment, but are literally looking for a suitable location to shoot. Not to mention the fact that in this case you need to see a good place and angle, catch good natural light, take care about weather conditions and many other points that you cannot control in any way and are forced to adapt. And crawling on the ground, begging the ants to give you a little more time to finish the job - mmm... wonderful! :) In general, this can be a real challenge for those who are used to shooting at home or in a studio in comfortable conditions.
I take my hat off to those who take pictures on the street. I made several attempts in this genre, but decided to remain a viewer. And of course I’m sharing one of my humble works.

Summertime
Perhaps it seemed to me, but this summer there are somehow especially many bees and wasps. They very often fly into the window of our kitchen in search of something interesting and tasty. And this is not surprising, in summer there are almost always fruits and wildflowers on the table. We try to treat these uninvited guests as carefully as possible, carefully catch and release them out the window.
Here's a LEGO scene inspired by my summer problem - hunting for a beautiful and careless bee. This is probably my favorite "costumed" minifigure I've ever seen: bright, with a simple print, with a wonderful headdress and neat wings. A little fiddling with floral wire to secure the bee and a few petals over the bouquet.
There are not so many summer days left this year, let this work support the appropriate mood.

Tourmaline Rain
You can't go any further, Jack, tourmaline rain is beautiful, but absolutely heartless. The drops instantly crystallize, in less than a minute you will not be able to move. The beauty of this phenomenon is best observed here, behind the force field. Out there you will only find your end, you know that. Hey, wake up! Let's go, I'm looking forward to trying the fresh cat food that the new shift delivered. Damn synthetic chicken gives me indigestion and wild molting! When will they fix your voice module? It's like I'm talking to myself!
What to do if you have come up with characters and a story, but you just can’t create the appropriate scenery? I found myself in exactly this situation and tried to make do with literally a handful of dark gray 2x2 tiles, a small piece of plexiglass and a spray bottle of water to create the effect of an invisible wall (force field).

Hello, I’m Yuri Badiner
I’m a LEGO toy photographer. I’m in love with LEGO since mid 90’s when I was a kid. In 2016, right after my Dark Ages, I combined my new-old LEGO passion with photography. I collect minifigures, some sets and shoot them. I prefer classic LEGO vibes and trying to live away from the hype licensed series.
During this exciting journey into the world of LEGO photography, I joined @brickcentral community, where creative people do absolutely incredible things. If you want to learn something new and share experiences with passionate enthusiasts and professionals, you should definitely check out this community.
LEGO photography is a type of product photography that uses LEGO minifigures and models as the subject. The idea here is not to shoot the set as a product, but to use it to create a plot, to tell a story. LEGO photography is quite a niche hobby, so I hope that I will be able to tell and show you something new and interesting.
Since Instagram stopped being photographer-friendly, my friends and I started looking at other platforms that could meet our needs. One such platform is Tumblr, so hi guys!

Little big adventures
Getting an animal to shoot is not an easy task. Even if the curiosity of the animal is not taken up, to encourage him to do what the photographer needs is still a hard thing. In this case, I teased my cat with a wire, and force him to stick his paw into an improvised mink, where Mickey Mouse, suspended in the air, was already waiting for him, which immediately drew cat’s attention.
When you are assisted by pets, it is very important to make sure that they do not swallow the parts. It is also important to be internally prepared for damage or the complete loss of a minifigure or several parts. Claws and teeth leave no chance for plastic to look decent after all.
Have fun and take care of your pets while playing!
