i usually like to stay quiet on all things discourse related but i really feel like i have to say something about this: it's not "pathologizing" for neurodivergent people to recognise themselves in fictional characters

#we ourselves have to go through life having all of our behaviours treated as a sign of neurodivergence #often by doctors and caretakers #so for us to point out those same things in fictional characters and hoping for some representation isn't some sort of #evil scheme to 'pathologize normal human behaviour' or whatever it is people like to throw around #yes we are often hyper aware of these signs of neurodivergence BECAUSE we are treated like this all the damn time #so at least let us have these moments of pointing out a character and saying 'they're just like me'#it's not demonizing to recognise your own experiences in others or in fictional characters #putting a label on things isn't a bad thing it's the assumptions others make based on that label #it literally changes nothing about a character or work of fiction if neurodivergent people do this all it does is make us feel better #those characteristics that we recognise ourselves in were aready there before we pointed them out #and if someone reacts so negatively to us labeling those things that's their problem #personal
