The Arts Presentation Fund for COVID Recovery is accepting applications on an ongoing basis until November 1, 2022, or until the available budget has been committed. Managed by the EAC, grants between $500 and $10,000 per applicant are available to presenters for the purpose of compensating local artists, for performances or presentations in Edmonton.

Ventured back to the Edmonton Heritage Festival and spent some time taking more pictures and videos of my new friends at the Oromo pavilion. I have been asked about who the Oromo people are. The short answer is that they are a nation from the Oromia region of Ethiopia and have faced human rights abuses at the hands of the Ethiopian government. The Oromo have their own language, religion, and system of social stratification. In Canada, it's become common for towns and cities that have airports to use the airport code when tagging stuff on social media related to the location in question.

As far as I know, this began with the city of Edmonton (Alberta) as a way to distinguish itself from Edmonton in the UK, Edmonton in Australia, and Edmonton in the US. We needed a way to distinguish ourselves in social media because it was very annoying and time-consuming to have to sort through the Edmonton tag for relevant posts about Canadian Edmonton.
