After 100 years it was clear that the world had changed more than its inhabitants may have realized. Placed the hundred year old warrior had been so fond of in his youth had been reduced to nothing but rubble all across Hyrule, most of those that he had cherished and cared for dearly for had been killed or passed before he had awoken, and even the Great Fairy Fountains that had been so popular had vanished since that horrible night all those years ago. Some things he could remember well, like his name, but most things still had a hazy sort of film over them. He had been working very hard to recall everything Zelda deemed important.
Yet for all the things Link had lost over 100 years he had also been able to learn a lot. Some lessons came from experiences out on the land as he defended himself against the many threats such as the Yiga clan or Guardians that seemed to be waiting for him around each corner. Other things had been taught from much more friendly sources, though that didn’t exactly mean that the things he had been taught were smart. Sidon, the prince of the Zora (and one of Link’s closest companions) knew such fact better than most.
It all began when the two of them took to the Zora trails, taking out Lizfolzos and Bokoblins together as Sidon filled the silence with his playful banter. It was one of the few off days for the prince, the Zora male having to sneak away from his advisors (as always) for a few moment alone with the hylian warrior he was so fond of. The first incident had taken place during an above ground attack, the shorter male slashing down without judging the distance of his fall before taking quite a tumble. The prince made quick work of their attackers, no longer finding their game fun with an injured partner so vulnerable. Once they were skewered and left in the past Sidon came to Link’s side, chiding him softly as he bandaged any cuts or scuffs that his eyes could find, only stopping when the smaller sent him a look that promised him he would try to be more careful in the future. They continued to walk the old trails, Sidon occasionally telling a story or two about the past from his perspective in the hopes of reviving a memory from the depths of his partners locked away mind. At times the prince worried that once he remember who he truly was then he wouldn’t look at him the same any longer, though he worked hard to keep such oppressive thought out of his ming. So long as link would be careful then Sidon would be happy.
He was not, however, more careful, as Sidon would quickly come to realize the longer he spent with the hero of old. Sidon found himself being excused from his duties more and more often, his father sending him seemingly knowing looks each time as he took up the kingly burden off of his sons shoulders, the glint in his eyes that was trying to tell him something he still wasn’t quite old enough to understand. Sidon wasn’t sure if his father or his advisors realized he was running off to see the hero and not a young lady for the throne...then again, there were eyes everywhere in the domain. Mipha taught him that so long as he was good and kind to his people then they would never have anything bad to say about him, what that treasured knowledge his stress over the company he chose to keep was normally kept at a low. If his father said anything then he would address it, until then he was simply content with slipping away with the Hylian who had saved his people, in solitary peace.
The next time the duo snuck away they decided on making the long trek up the tallest mountain, simply to distance themselves from anyone who might have come looking for the prince. Things started out calmly enough, just the two of them swimming up the falls and making small talk as they drew slowly closer and closer to the top. Shatterback point had been safe for about two week now, all thanks to Link and his masterful swordsmanship, though the people of the domain were still weary about venturing to the top. The dive down was said to be exhilarating, though even Sidon had yet to attempt it for fear of being killed in the process, not to mention the idea of being caught on the mountain during the Blood moon. The place was calm though without the Lynel there to attack any who drew near and the two of them were content to sit and simply be as they wished, they only had so long until the next ruby colored moon would come to take away the heroes accomplishment.
“You carry so much armor, surely you must grow tired!” Sidon remarked when at last they reached the top, Link leaning against the sign that warned against the now vanquished beast and trying to seem as if he wasn’t indeed out of breath. He took a moment before shrugging in response. “No? Does it not trouble you to carry your pack up and down mountains or through valleys?”
From there things really did begin to go down hill (No pun intended) after the hero pulled out a slightly rusted silver shield, the emblem of the royal family painstaking painted on however many years ago now beginning to chip from the wear and tear. Sidon thought that it had seen better days. Link looked at it for a moment before setting his things down next to the post and letting the shield hit the ground. He was surprised when the male stood atop it and used it as some sort of sled, ever more so when it began to slide down the steep slope they had so tirelessly trekked. Said surprise quickly turned into a form of horror as his sled broke and flew out from under him, sending him flying and tumbling down the incline. The zora ran so quickly that he too felt as if he was going to begin to tumble. He was meant for the water, his stubby legs had no business running down a mountain. The hero stopped rolling about the time Sidon appeared, the Zora now trying his best to seem as if the run hadn’t winded him. His pointed ears were red, though not from blood but from embarrassment. One fall from such a height seemed to humble the Hylian greatly as he picked himself up and checked himself over. Sidon watched, allowing him the right before asking any questions. “Are you alright?” He asked after another beat or two of silence. He simply stared off at something for a moment before giving a not, a little ‘hp’ sound leaving him as he brought his fists down to hit against his hips. The zora laughed, his webbed hand coming down to give him a pat on the back that sent him forward a few inches as the prince a relieved sort of laugh.
They made sure from then on to avoid anything too dangerous, choosing instead to enjoy the peace of the ending day before setting back down towards Sidons home. They had tamed the Divine Beast together, why make anything else as complicated?
