Three ships: Three ships I have written recently: Kira/Rose monsterfucking; Hinamori/Hitsugaya (rather, Kira developing minor negative feelings about Hitsugaya because IT’S A LOT, HINAMORI. Like I’m your bro, he assures her, but it’s a lot); Renji/Rukia, if only the dominoes would fall the right way, which at the moment they are not, for dumb work reasons and also their dumb coworkers.
First Ship: I dunno, Gabrielle/Xena?
Last song: I didn’t listen to any music today, so I guess by default… the 4th ED for Haikyuu?
Last Film: …Muppet Treasure Island, I think? Wow, I sure am getting an A+ in answering questions!
Currently Reading: In This World of Ultraviolet Light by Raul Palma, which is a collection of short stories that tend toward the skrunkly, the macabre, but are also just incredibly truthful. He gave a reading of “Stand Your Ground” last year, and it was so excellent I think it was THE best thing I read all year. It was the kind of story that makes you really want to write, because it’s so good and he’s so good.
Currently watching: We’re rewatching Haikyuu again, in a perpetual cycle of rewatching Haikyuu!! We just finished the Seijou/Karasuno rematch, which was an INCREDIBLY emotionally taxing experience, because I want Karasuno to win but I also want Oikawa to win, and the fine details of that match are overwhelming.
I was swapping anime recs with a friend on LJ the other day, and she was like, “Wow, we have such similar tastes! That’s so rare, as varied as anime can be.” And internally I was like, IT’S BECAUSE YOU ALREADY TOLD ME YOU HATED LONG SERIAL BATTLE SHOUNEN. ToT Nah. I mean, she did say that, but I was intentionally reccing her things I liked that I thought she would also like. XD It’s just that I thought she would like them for the fanservice and the angst, and I like them because of the like, folding tables. (I love you Seijou folding table and banner on the ground.)
I also have 20 minutes left of the series finale of Reservation Dogs, but I don’t want to say goodbye just yet.
Currently consuming: Faildinner, which is distinct from girldinner because it’s when you feel very smart about making dishes that do a good job of using up last week’s leftover ingredients, only to realize you’ve made a tomato-based potato/squash dish and a balsamic vinegar-based chicken dish, which is already ACID ON ACID until you realize you also made a shchi recipe that included SAUERKRAUT.
Currently craving: JUSTICE. Not to be overly dramatic. At work today an adult child said something innocently intended but honestly kind of fucked up and I am so mad about it. It’s not remotely his responsibility to know our ranks or employment histories, but he assumed my colleague was older and more experienced and that I was learning from her, because he could “see the similarities in our teaching style.” Which, I just wanna say, EXCUUUUUSE ME???? I actually have years more experience than her??? I don’t know how old she is but we’re functionally the same age. But she just came back from maternity leave, and those similarities in our style are because I DESIGNED. THAT COURSE. And I gave it to her and told her she was welcome to keep whatever and change whatever, because she just came back from maternity leave and she should get all the shortcuts she needs. But the course is similar to mine because I MADE IT. Like, what a bizarre set of assumptions to make. Again, doesn’t matter, it’s not his business, there’s no reason that’s information he should have or care about, but omg, definitely not over it. Thanks I hate it!! /end rant

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
Oh man, there's a lot, I just love her sm... Okay, the first thing that jumped to my mind was "Jenny Flint canonically has a thing for scales" XDD So I'll just go with that, but she's just such a fabulous character!
20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?
THOMAS FOSTER!!! I need him to come back in the audios, they can't introduce him for two episodes just to never bring him back :( Aside from that, let's say Strax even though those two are more like siblings!
21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?
Bring up Jenny's scale kink.
No I'm joking! I do like that but I think I really love exploring the complexity of her character, and I love her being a little cheeky XD The thing I don't like (but that could go for Jenny or Vastra honestly) is that canonically they are SOOOO bad at Communicating With Each Other sometimes.

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?
Uhhh, just because my brain is currently obsessed with it, I wanna put her into the world of Xena! It'd serve for a really interesting plot, and the great thing is, with how bonkers Xena and Doctor Who both are, they literally could be meeting :D
10. Could you be best friends with this character?
I wanna say yeah, I think so. I mean, we're like both autistic, traumatised... The one thing I would be a bit worried about is different energy levels, I'm not sure I'd be up for that much travelling and physical activitiy. But besides that? Sure, why not?
22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don't like?
I love when she's written as autistic! Having sensory issues, being a bit hyper, infodumping, etc. I can't think of something I don't like right now, I kinda just click away or scroll on when I don't like something XDD
Captain Janeway
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
I love her for how determined (bordering on stubborn sometimes), unhinged, and brilliant she is. Also she's obviously very attractive. She's brave and intelligent, and she's a fantastic captain!
6. What's something you have in common with this character?
Hhhhh, we would die for Seven of Nine? I feel like there's not really much I have in common with Janeway. It's funny really, because in a bunch of ways we're very much opposites? She loves coffee, I don't and prefer tea, for instance.
13. What's an emoji, an emoticon and/or any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot?
☕ COFFEE. THERE'S COFFEE IN THAT NEBULA. And perhaps 🌌?

Mmmmmmmm, I honestly doubt it. I feel like she would drive me a bit insane after a while? Especially after seeing her just deck a guy with their only frying pan XD I feel like I'd get along better with Gabrielle as a roommate, but perhaps I would warm up and get used to Xena as well.
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
This is an interesting one because my brain hasn't yet done any headcanoning it actually put into words? OH! Xena secretly enjoys Gabrielle telling her stories about her (like, narrating past adventures) and finds it endearing, and it helps her settle down and fall asleep. (is this me blatantly stealing a headcanon I also have for Jenny and Vastra because Gabrielle and Xena are Jenny and Vastra coded, maybe...)

I AM LOSING MY MARBLES I just watched the movie again but in german an Leo has the same fucking VA as Atem/th pharao from yugioh I can not take the german dub serious I'm sorry

EDIT 2: OF COURSE SPLINTER IS ALSO MASTER VU IN LEGO NINJAGO and apparently Majestix in several Asterix and Obelix movies......honestly that's noice, oh and king of hyrule in breath of the wild.
Baron Draxum has 2 VAs and the first one is the storyteller in Xena, Asterix in several Asterix and Obelix movies and Marlin in Finding Nemo. The second is the dude with the hook hand in the Disney Rapunzel movie, the pirate captain int he liveaction Asterix movie with the brits (didn't even know that exists wowies), BalckWarGreymoon in digimon and that one evil fartcloud in Ninjago also more commonly known as the overlord.
And finally, Big spider lady whomst I adore is also Jean Grey from X-Men an whole bunch of times and Samantha Carter in Stargate SG1.
Please note that all of these are about the GERMAN Vas and not the english ones, I obviously don't know that many english VAs from shows I used to watch when I was younger bc...I'm german. Also these are just the movie ones, idk if the listing for the show is different I watched both in english first and the wiki page for the VAs has some gaps.

Episodic Ficlet #24 (Alternate): Safe
“It’s Gabrielle who performed the miracle. …Din’cha?”
Grandmother? Uncle Meropes? Dazed orbs sought the faces of her loved ones with whom she had just reunited. The young bard gasped at what she saw instead. Xena’s looking at me with such love in her eyes. She’s even tearing up. No! Gabrielle mourned when the warrior princess pulled back from kissing her on the forehead. I don’t want this dream to end. A stuttered breath later, the girl panicked. Unless Xena’s dead too! Th-the temple!
Those strong arms cinched tighter around in her limp frame. “Ssh,” that voice soothed her. “It’s alright, precious. You’re safe. You’re safe now; I promise!”
“...Xena?”
“Yes, lovey?” Her voice catching on the endearment, the woman still laughed beneath watery eyes.
Gabrielle knew then she was still on the other side.
Or maybe not. The center of her chest began to ache terribly.
“I-it hurts,” she whispered. She soon passed out, for Xena immediately parted her top and kissed the forming bruise there.
“I’m so sorry, sweetheart.”
It had to be a dream.

Elven ears perked up, and Gabrielle let herself grin. “I know,” she told her dream lover.
“Oh, ya do, do ya? I guess I don’t have to say it anymore then.”
Green-blue eyes shot open at that warm, teasing tone. Her hand rose to ensnare itself in the long, raven locks spilling into her face but found itself full of another hand. She’s even still holding me, the bard mused, utterly amazed.
“How-” Xena’s voice broke again. “How’re you feelin’, hon- huh?”
“Safe,” the bard murmured as she snuggled even closer to her hero.

For the next few days, Gabrielle would not wake without dark hair in her eyes, warm breath tickling her temple, and powerful hands cradling her in some way.
We’ll have to come through this forest more often, she thought to herself with a soft but naughty grin. Then she would whine or whimper, and Xena would instantly spring to attention to wait on her hand and foot. Definitely challenge the warrior princess to stop a war at least once a season from here on out.
A pointed poke in the nose and huff told her to not even try it.
But Gabrielle knew that she would.

Detailed Plot Summary- Into the Wild Part 1
This is inspired by Old Faces, New Dawn’s style of writing their rewrite’s books. I stole the general story beats for this from the warriors wiki’s summary of the book. I have changed a lot more plot details then I did before and need to redo allegiances AGAIN (honestly I’ll probably just edit the third round of allegiances and delete the other ones that are no longer rewrite-canon). Anyway, here we go!
The prologue begins with a battle between ThunderClan and RiverClan. The battle is not going well for ThunderClan, so the ThunderClan Deputy Thrushpelt calls his Warriors to retreat. While most follow his command, a Warrior named Tigerclaw ignores the order and continues fighting, much to the confusion of the other combatants, who assumed the battle was over since a retreat was called. Thrushpelt tries to make Tigerclaw stop but almost gets attacked by the angry tom for his troubles until another ThunderClan cat named Redtail steps in and manages to help calm Tigerclaw down enough to convince him to leave. As the three leave, some RiverClan Warriors taunt them, calling Thrushpelt a useless Deputy who can’t control his own stupid Warriors. The prologue ends with the three leaving the battlefield and Tigerclaw glaring daggers into Redtail and Thrushpelt’s backs as he slowly stalks behind them. Bluestar, ThunderClan’s Leader, is given a prophecy by the Seer Spottedleaf: “Fire alone will save the Clans”...
The story proper begins with the young housecat Rusty waking up from a strange dream in which he was a living flame running through the forest in pursuit of a massive shadow. Rusty notes that this isn't the only strange dream he’s had recently and he goes out to see a friend of his named Ferris about the dream, reasoning that if any cat could make sense of it it would be him. Rusty meets up with Ferris and his housemates Pinecone, Xena, and Pollyanna and tells Ferris about his dream. While the elderly tom is normally fairly reserved and calm, his demeanor changes dramatically when Rusty informs him about his recent dreams and asks if he knows what they could mean. He becomes incredibly incensed and almost panicked, pinning Rusty to the floor with strength that Rusty didn't know he had and demands that Rusty never ever go into the forest and that it will be the death of him.
Pinecone and Xena pull a still manic and screeching Ferris off of Rusty and try to calm him down while Pollyanna quickly escorts Rusty out of their house. When Rusty asks about what the heck just happened with Ferris, she explains that her parents (Ferris and Pinecone) both came from a group of wild cats that lived in the forest. Neither of them ever talk about forest life at all so she and her sister Xena don’t know much about it, but she assumes that whatever happened to them there wasn't good. Rusty leaves, confused and even more curious than ever. On the way home, he runs into his older sister Princess sitting in her yard sunning herself. She tells him that as much as she’d love to catch up with him, his best friend Smudge has been running all over the neighborhood looking for him and he should see what he wants.
Upon meeting up with Smudge, the two engage in the latest gossip while Rusty tells Smudge about his dreams. Smudge discourages going into the forest because “everybody knows those forest cats are dangerous, Russ! they killed a kit two years ago, remember?!” He also informs Rusty that the city is becoming just as dangerous as the forest is. A group of cats calling themselves the Coven of Blood are starting to take over many areas in the city. Rusty just laughs at this and calls it a bunch of edgy cats roleplaying as being tough, but Smudge insists that he’s heard talk that they kill cats in order to gain influence and power over others. Before Smudge goes home, he makes Rusty promise him that he won’t go into the woods. Rusty promises but...
Despite all the warnings he’s been given, Rusty still sneaks into the forest anyway. He ends up lost and gets attacked by a cat around his age named Graypaw. Graypaw tries to chase him off back out of the woods, but Rusty fights back. Suddenly, two cats emerge from the woods and introduce themselves as Bluestar and Lionheart of ThunderClan. Bluestar is impressed by Rusty’s courage and determination and offers him the opportunity to become a member of her Clan. She tells him to return the next night with his answer. Rusty goes home, thinks it over, and decides that he will join ThunderClan.
Smudge catches Rusty leaving his house for the last time, and the two have an explosive argument over him leaving that ends with Smudge yowling that he hopes that Ferris was right and Rusty does die in the woods because he sure as heck won’t miss him! With that, Rusty runs into the woods. Once there, he meets up with Graypaw, Lionheart, and a new cat he’s never met, Whitestorm, who is thankfully also really nice.
When Rusty, Lionheart, Graypaw, and Whitestorm arrive at camp, Bluestar holds a Clan meeting to introduce Rusty to the Clan and give him a new name and a mentor. The meeting is highjacked by multiple cats who are against having a kittypet join the Clan (namely Darkstripe, Robinwing, Dustpaw, Longtail, and Sandpaw). One of these cats, Sandpaw, challenges Rusty to a duel while viciously mocking him. Before Bluestar can even try to diffuse the situation, Rusty agrees to the duel and jumps down off the highrock and starts fighting her. While he doesn't exactly win, he does fight rather well, and the fact his collar was torn clean off him in the fight is used as a sign that StarClan favors his joining. He is renamed Firepaw by Bluestar and is given a friendly Senior Warrior named Rosetail as his mentor.
The triumphant moment is cut short when another ThunderClan apprentice, Ravenpaw, comes sprinting into camp wild-eyed, hyperventilating, and yowling something unintelligible. Dustpaw, who turns out to be his brother, immediately runs to him and supports him when he faints. While a cat runs off to fetch the Healer, Featherwhisker, another cat enters the camp holding a lifeless body in his jaws. This cat is Tigerclaw, and the body is that of Redtail. He explains that Redtail and the Clan’s Deputy Thrushpelt had been on patrol with him and Ravenpaw near Sunningrocks when they were ambushed by a group of RiverClan Warriors and Thrushpelt and Redtail were both killed. He was unable to obtain Thrushpelt’s body for burial, however. Dustpaw is deeply saddened by his mentor’s death but perks up when he is given the smug-looking Darkstripe as his new mentor. Bluestar also makes Lionheart the Clan’s new Deputy to replace Thrushpelt. A funeral is held for the two deceased later that night, which Firepaw attends. He meets many new faces and interacts with them, and becomes friends with Ravenpaw despite Dustpaw’s reservations.
He trains over several uneventful weeks under Rosetail and while she trains him hard, she also makes sure he has fun and the two bond pretty closely with each other. Bluestar also keeps a close eye on his training. Firepaw also overhears some interesting information one day while eating some prey: Runningwind, having come back from a patrol to discuss the deaths of Thrushpelt and Redtail with RiverClan and to obtain Thrushpelt’s body for a proper burial, privately tells Bluestar that while the RiverClan patrol he and his patrol group met with fully admitted that one of their own had killed Thrushpelt and that that cat was being punished to the full extent, they swore up and down that he was the only one killed in the fight and that Redtail had left the encounter alive. Interested in the mystery, Firepaw decides to investigate on his own time.
On his first solo hunting assignment, Firepaw encounters an injured, sick, and starving molly just lying in the grass, unmoving. While he panics and worries aloud that he’s stumbled on a dead body, she manages to lift her head and rasp out a “I’m not dead yet, stupid kit”. Firepaw gives her his prey to eat, and she introduces herself as Yellowfang. Just then, Bluestar and Rosetail show up, Rosetail having gotten a bad feeling when her apprentice didn't return to camp for a long time. Yellowfang tries to leave but is too weak to even stand. Bluestar immediately recognizes her as being ShadowClan’s Healer and she is rushed back to camp for treatment, as a Medicine Cat dying on their territory would look badly for ThunderClan. Firepaw takes care of Yellowfang after being assigned the job as punishment for not immediately informing a patrol of the strange cat on their territory before anything else. Yellowfang begins to recover, and privately admits to Firepaw, Featherwhisker, and Spottedleaf that she has been exiled from ShadowClan but refuses to elaborate on why this is.

So‚ although technically it’s an uber‚ it’s not an uber in the same vein as most stories out there in the Fanfic world. The "Xena" and "Gabrielle" characters of this story are not simply modern-day likenesses of the TV characters‚ but rather‚ they have a direct connection with the Conqueror and Bard of my series. The mode of that connection will be duly explained within this tale‚ thus a thorough understanding of this story will be achieved only if the stories of the Series are read. If you haven’t read the Series before‚ I do hope that you enjoy it.

CHAPTER ONE
THE BANKS OF THE LETHE

"What the hell was that about?" Lindsay whispered as she jarred awake from the strange dream. Turning on her side and tightening her thighs together‚ she allowed herself to ride out the wondrous orgasm. Once released‚ she relaxed her body and cocked her head over to make sure that she didn’t awaken her husband‚ Martin. Letting out a breath‚ she lay dazed‚ wondering about the dream. Why was I dreaming about having sex with a woman‚ she thought‚ and who is she?

Rejeanne Piscard poured her coffee and wandered over to her living room window to raise the blinds.
"Aw shit‚ another frickin’ six inches‚" she groused as she noticed the fresh layer of snow on the ground outside. "I am so over this‚" she said as she turned on her TV to hear Al Roker’s confirmation.
Here in the east‚ look for temperatures that hover in the 20s. Parts of the Midwest‚ Minnesota‚ Wisconsin‚ and around the Great Lakes should expect four to six inches of new powder. High winds in the mountains and moderate temperatures are expected out west. San Diego will hit 74 today. That’s what’s going on around the country. Here’s what’s happening in your neck of the woods.
As the Today Show cut to the local meteorologist to deliver the bad news in detail‚ Rejeanne sipped her scalding coffee and contemplated her day. After five years with the Dell Valley Gazette‚ she was finally going to get her big break‚ covering the Alasdair Family Foundation’s annual fundraiser. It wasn’t just that the Alasdairs were the wealthiest and most philanthropic family in Dell Valley. Their fundraisers had been known to attract some of the most influential people in the state; people that Rejeanne could meet and interview. Coverage of the fundraiser would most certainly land a full-color front-page article. That would have the potential of being picked up by larger dailies‚ greatly increasing the circulation of the story. All this‚ and Rejeanne’s name is under the byline. As a smile crept across her lovely face‚ clearing snow off her car was no longer a burdensome prospect.
"Good morning‚ everybody‚" Rejeanne announced as she stepped into the main newsroom of the Gazette.
"Yo‚ Jeannie-P‚" replied Tyler Brunswick‚ the assistant sports editor‚ as he raised his hand for a high-five. "It’s caviar and cham-fuckin’-pagne tonight for you."
"You know that’s right‚ dog‚" she said as she slapped Tyler’s hand and brought her shoulder to his chest for a hip-hop embrace.
"You nervous?" he asked.
"No...uh‚ yeah... what do you think?" At that point‚ other staff members began grouping around.
"I think that you’re shittin’ your pants‚ Jeannie‚" chimed in Becky Schaff‚ the courthouse beat reporter. "If not now‚ you will be."
"Thanks for your vote of confidence‚ Beck‚" Jeannie remarked. "It’s very much appreciated."
"Hey‚ I’d be shittin’ bricks too‚ Jeannie-P‚" Becky said. "I mean‚ have you fully thought about who all’s gonna be there? Practically everybody who’s anybody in the state."
"I realize that‚" Jeannie replied.
"This is one of the biggest stories of the year‚" added Dennis Ruhl‚ another beat reporter. "Once you score with this‚ Jeannie‚ you can write your own ticket with the editing staff."
"Provided your story doesn’t flop to the point that they have to juggle tons of rewrites‚" Becky adds.
"Again‚ thanks for the vote of confidence‚" Jeannie sneered at Becky.
"Don’t sweat it‚ Jeannie-P‚" Tyler spoke up. "Just make sure you hobnob with Lindsay Alasdair-MacMahon."
"Why?" Jeannie asked as her eyes raised and her heart mysteriously pounded harder.
"Cuz she’s the finest white chick in this motherfuckin’ county... well‚ next to you‚ JP‚" he responded.
"You have such a way with words‚ my dear Tyler‚" Jeannie said as she wondered why the name of Lindsay Alasdair-MacMahon caused such a strange reaction in her.
In preparation for this very special event‚ Rejeanne spent most of her day attending briefings with the managing staff and the editorial staff. She also met with Douglas Linton‚ who would accompany her as the article’s photographer. But it was what she had to do before leaving the newsroom for the day that made her beam with excitement. Walking up to Doris Marks‚ the elderly newsroom receptionist‚ Rejeanne extended her right hand. In it‚ Doris placed the coveted Dell Valley Gazette Press Pass‚ her ticket into the fundraiser.
Gripping the laminated pass‚ she looked over at Doris. "This is really going to happen tonight."
"Yes‚ dear‚" Doris replied. "It is."

Rejeanne stood in front of her closet dumbfounded‚ staring hopelessly at its contents. What to wear? What to wear? she repeated in her head as she grabbed an outfit only to return it seconds later. After almost an hour of that futility‚ Rejeanne decided on the deep turquoise dress that she had worn to the newspaper’s Christmas party two years ago. It was probably the fanciest article of clothing in her closet and she rationalized that the color would perfectly accentuate her jade-colored eyes.
Before putting on the dress‚ Rejeanne was concerned that it no longer fit. She was convinced that‚ with what she’d had to deal in the last twelve months‚ she had put on weight. That last year had been really trying for her. Work had become increasingly stressful; her father‚ never a stranger to drama‚ had remarried and divorced for the fourth time; and she had learned through the grapevine that her ex of almost four years married a man. However‚ as the dress slid down her torso almost gracefully‚ she was instantly relieved that a crash diet would not be on her agenda for the immediate future.
Stepping over to her full-length mirror‚ she twisted her body so that she could get a thorough look at her backside. "Nice ass‚" she said jokingly to herself before sitting on the edge of the bed to slip on her hose. It was only moments after applying her makeup and jewelry that the doorbell rang. After running down the stairs of her townhouse‚ she peered out of the front door window and saw the smiling face of Doug Linton.
"Right on time‚" she said to the photographer as she opened the door. "Take off your boots."
"Sure thing‚" he responded as he bent over to unlace them.
"You want a beer before we head out?"
"Nah‚" he said as he wandered over to her kitchen table and sat. "How are you feeling?"
"Dude‚ I am wired for sound‚" Rejeanne announced.
"Maybe you should have a beer‚" Doug commented.
"Actually‚ I was hoping that you had something better?" Rejeanne asked as she sat at the table as well.
"As a matter of fact‚ I do‚" Doug said as he unzipped the chest pocket on his coat and pulled out a thick phillies blunt. "Already rolled and ready to go."
"I only need one hit‚ Doug‚" Rejeanne said. "I don’t need to go to this important function totally fucked up."
"I hear you‚" Doug replied as he lit the blunt‚ took a drag and then passed it to Rejeanne.
She took her smoke. "That’s good‚" she said as she stood up from the table. "I don’t want to jinx this thing."
Doug burst out in laughter. "What’s to jinx‚ Jeannie?" he asked. "Those rich assholes won’t even be looking at you tonight... not that you ain’t nothin’ to look at." Doug eyed Rejeanne provocatively in her eveningwear before taking a second long drag on his joint.
"You need to watch your double negatives‚ Doug‚" Jeannie said jokingly before putting on her dress shoes and the one full-length coat that she possessed. "Let’s go."

The words on the page were not taking on any meaning.
"Lin."
She read the same paragraph for the third time and still‚ nothing. In fact‚ nothing from the last three pages actually registered. She wasn’t sure how much time had lapsed either.
"Lin."
What clouded her mind was the image of that woman from the dream that she had had several weeks before. The woman’s name was now a forgotten memory‚ as were her distinctive facial features‚ but the seductive voice‚ shoulder-length strawberry-blonde hair and beautifully tanned skin were still very vivid.
"Lin."
The orgasms that they both experienced... vivid was an understatement.
"LIN!!"
Lindsay looked up at the irritated expression on her husband’s face.
"By golly‚ woman‚" Martin exclaimed. "You were really daydreaming there."
Lindsay looked back down at the documents before her on her desk. "Yes‚ I guess I was."
"Have you reviewed the entire minutes from the meeting and the itinerary for the presentations tonight?" he asked.
"Sort of‚" she responded.
"What do you mean‚ ‘sort of’?"
"My eyes are tired‚" Lindsay said as she handed to Martin the documents that she had been trying to read.
Grabbing the documents from her‚ Martin sat down on one of the chairs that faced Lindsay’s desk. "What’s troubling you‚ Lin?"
"Nothing‚ really‚" she replied. "Perhaps I’m not really looking forward to tonight."
Martin chuckled. "Why not?" he asked teasingly. "This is your yearly family gig‚ Lin. I thought that you loved looking drop-dead gorgeous while all of the local snoots rub their noses up your fine Alasdair ass."
Lindsay’s shoulders tensed. "You needn’t complain‚ Marty‚" she fired back. "My yearly ‘gig’ also affords you the opportunity to check out your latest jailbait conquests. I hope that this year’s choice has her driver’s license at least."
Martin crossed his arms and smirked. "Who says I’m complaining‚" he said before rising and exiting the office.

As Doug’s vehicle approached the valets standing outside of the main entrance to the Dell Valley Pavilion‚ Rejeanne regretted not taking her Subaru Outback. Although not a luxury vehicle by any stretch of the imagination‚ it would have still been a better representation than Doug’s rusty ’92 Chevy S-10‚ which stood out like a sore thumb amongst the Benzes‚ Beamers‚ Hummers‚ Rovers and limos that lined the arched driveway of the conference center.
Two young men stepped up to the truck. One opened the passenger door and helped Rejeanne exit the vehicle after she hastily grabbed her notepad and pen. The other opened the driver’s door. Doug handed the valet his keys after grabbing his camera bag from the exposed bed of the truck. "Let’s do this‚" he said to Rejeanne after extending his arm for her to take.
Walking into the massive pavilion after checking her coat‚ Rejeanne was almost overwhelmed by the sights and sounds before her. To her right‚ a string quartet performed. To her left‚ a full service bar provided beverages of every sort to event guests. Positioned in front of her was a gauntlet of people greeting the newest arrivals. Amongst the greeters were the mayor of Dell Valley‚ all of the town’s council members‚ four county commissioners‚ two state representatives‚ a state senator and all of their spouses. Rejeanne made it a point to introduce herself to each greeter and announce herself as the reporter covering the fundraiser for the Gazette‚ although the press pass was prominently featured hanging from a string around her neck. She didn’t specifically ask for any quotable comments from any of the politicians‚ but rather made mental notes of the more interesting quips from them. As Rejeanne spoke‚ Doug snapped away at everything and anything around him that was remotely worthy.
When she reached the end of the gauntlet‚ Rejeanne initially looked out at the massive congregation of guests talking‚ dancing or eating hor d'oeurves. But then she looked to her right and her eyes fell upon the person of Lindsay Alasdair-MacMahon. After moments of stunned gawking‚ Rejeanne looked briefly at the man standing next to Lindsay before returning her attention to the brunette beauty.
"Hello‚" Lindsay said to Rejeanne as she extended her hand. "I’m Lindsay Alasdair-MacMahon and this is my husband‚ Martin Stuart MacMahon. Welcome."
God Almighty must be cruel‚ because she is truly the most beautiful woman I have ever seen‚ was all Rejeanne could think as she shook the hand of the married woman before her. Tall and lean‚ perfectly attired and adorned‚ with bright blue eyes‚ a boldly beautiful face and an intoxicating smile‚ Rejeanne felt as if she could collapse right there.
"I’m Rejeanne Piscard‚" she croaked before discretely clearing her throat‚ "from the Gazette. I’ll be covering this fundraiser. It’s an honor to be here and a pleasure to meet you‚ Mrs. MacMahon."
Doug cleared his throat. "Oh‚ and this is Douglas Linton‚ our staff photographer‚" Rejeanne added.
"The pleasure is all mine‚ and it’s Lindsay to you‚" she responded as Rejeanne noticed that they were still clasping hands.
At that moment‚ Martin extended his hand. "And mine‚" he stated. Rejeanne took his hand‚ but her gaze had only left Lindsay momentarily.
"After you’ve made your rounds with the guests‚ come back to me‚" Lindsay said to Rejeanne. "I’ll provide you the full itinerary for tonight’s presentations and give some workable quotes for your story."
"Thank you very much‚ Mrs. Mac... Lindsay."

Lindsay was almost paralyzed with boredom as milquetoast after milquetoast lined up to shake her hand and kiss her ass. Martin was right about one thing. Most of the people shelling out the $500 to attend the fundraiser weren’t doing so to benefit the charities to which the money would ultimately go. Most were there to see and be seen. Lindsay herself was only as important as the press photographers and TV video camera operators standing near her.
Thus‚ when the shapely‚ diminutive‚ green-eyed beauty announced that she was a newspaper reporter‚ Lindsay should have had utter contempt for her. Instead‚ she found herself strangely feeling as lightheaded as a schoolgirl on prom night. Something intangible drew her to this blonde-haired woman. She didn’t know what it was‚ but she needed to be near her‚ needed to talk to her‚ and soon.
For many brief moments in the first hour that Rejeanne was "working" the guests at the fundraiser‚ Lindsay found herself eyeing the young woman. Much to her surprise‚ on a few of those occasions‚ Rejeanne looked back. When that happened‚ Lindsey smiled at her and felt a childlike delight when she smiled back. Unfortunately‚ by the time Rejeanne returned to Lindsay for her comments‚ she was scheduled to start the presentations.
"Please stay right here‚" Lindsay asked of Rejeanne before dashing off to address the guests. "I still want to talk to you."
"As you wish‚" Rejeanne said with a smile.
Lindsay stepped up to a podium and announced the names of the most charitable supporters and the amounts of their gifts. She then presented the representatives of the three charities benefiting from the fundraiser. After each representative spoke‚ Lindsay made some additional remarks about her family’s foundation and her hopes for its future. She then invited her honored guests to enjoy the rest of the evening’s food and festivities.
Stepping away from the podium‚ she was confronted by Martin. "That was rather rushed‚ don’t you think?" he whispered as he grasped her upper arms.
"No‚ I don’t‚" she replied.
"Well‚ I think that you could have said more about the foundation’s future‚" he said. "You hardly even mentioned anything that was covered in the meeting minutes."
Lindsay pulled her arms away from Martin’s grasp. "Who died and made you my father?" she said as she brushed past him and approached the eagerly awaiting Rejeanne.
"I fear that we’re not going to have much time to talk‚ Rejeanne‚" Lindsay said to Rejeanne as she handed the young reporter a copy of the minutes and itinerary. "But use these for your story."
"Thank you‚" Rejeanne said as she took the documents. "You know‚ I was thinking‚" she continued. "Perhaps I’m going out on a limb here‚ but would you consider meeting me for an exclusive interview?"
"You want me to give you an exclusive interview about the fundraiser or my family’s foundation?"
"Actually‚ neither‚" Rejeanne replied. "Between you‚ me and the wall‚ my paper pretty much regurgitates the same report about the Alasdair Family Foundation’s fundraiser year after year. I’d like to get an exclusive interview from Lindsey Alasdair-MacMahon about Lindsey Alasdair-MacMahon."
Try as she might‚ Lindsay could not suppress the smile that swept across her face. "I’d love to meet with you... for an interview‚" she said. "I can’t promise that I won’t totally bore you to death‚ however."
"Let me be the judge of that‚ Lindsay."
"Very well‚" Lindsay said. "When and where?"
"You tell me the ‘when’ and I’ll pick the ‘where‚’" was Rejeanne’s reply.
"Tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.‚" Lindsay stated.
"At the Karmic Java Coffeehouse on Madison‚" Rejeanne added.
"I’ll be there‚ Rejeanne‚" Lindsay remarked as she extended her hand.
"Great! It’s a date‚" Rejeanne announced as she shook Lindsay’s hand before returning to Doug.
As Lindsay watched Rejeanne walk away‚ two words escaped her lips‚ "A date."

Shining Veins (Chapter 3) P2
I try to calm my heart feeling it weirdly cold and racy as I look to the curtain covering our entrance. I feel my heart drop as I see the shadows of the person right outside. My hands dig into the ground stiffly ready to get up in case of anything.
A guard! It must be a guard! Oh my god… We're all done for. The fire and smoke flashes before my eyes and I squeeze them shut trying to shut it out. My heart aches and I feel the panic settle in as I see another shadow follow him… They've surely discovered us. Holding my breath, I kick off the rest of the blanket over Arabelle and get into a crouching position while watching the shadows.
I need to get out of here. I need to get Arabelle out of here before they see us. I take a deep breath and clench my hands as I watch the shadows walk slowly by our entrance not noticing my figure. I press up against the thin wall holding my breath as they slowly pass by, completely oblivious of me whispering quietly to each other. What are they doing?
I put a hand over my racing heart, closing my eyes before nodding to myself and getting up slowly. Taking a small breath in, I raise my shaking hand to Arabelle sleeping figure, shaking her shoulder.
"Arabelle, it's time to wake up, sweetheart". I whisper as low as I can, shaking her gently.
Arabelle murmurs a little in her sleep, trying to ignore me shaking her before her hands darts out and push mine off. I really need to start working on her being more alert… We can’t live like this, not safely.
"Stop it". She mumbles.
"Arabelle, wake up right now!" I try to whisper as loud as I can.
Thankfully, her eyes snap open and panic immediately settles in them as she sees mine. She rubs her eyes quickly before she sits up and looks around and then at me.
"Xena? What happened?” Even her voice doesn't seem to help calm me now.
"We need to run, someone is outside". I whisper and watch as her expression becomes more concerned. I look back making sure they’re not near and listening. I keep my hands on her shoulders for comfort.
"What? Are you sure? This is the most secretive place we've ever found!” She says, standing up slowly while leaning to the side, trying to look past the curtain.
"It… It doesn’t matter. Come on, let’s go". I say, grabbing her hands to lift her up. I look into her eyes, noticing a little doubt starting to appear in her face. I sigh and roll my eyes before saying: "Okay, fine. I'll go check first, but if you hear anything, run. No hesitation. Nothing. You run. Do you hear me?”
She leans against the weak wall while raising an eyebrow before nodding slowly. I take a deep breath and move slowly, pushing the curtain aside to peek outside. I furrow my eyebrows as the people have disappeared and rub my arms as the cold air bites at my skin.
I sigh before looking back at Arabelle who still looks a little skeptical so I turn around and get out trying to walk as silently as I could. I freeze as I hear their whispers… They're near… It is hard to see through the darkness. It doesn’t help that every house seems to create its own creepy shadow in the moonlight as I try to figure out where they are.
I shake my head, closing my eyes and sighing before I gulp as I try to follow their voices, trying to ignore the chills crawling up my back. My heart drops as I see their dark figures walking slowly side by side completely oblivious of me. I lean behind one of the houses as I watch.
"So what do you think we should do about it?” The female asks.
"We should destroy it… As soon as possible". A guy sighs and whispers back while they both look around. My eyes widen.
Are they talking about this place?! No way… We are so busted. I need to get Arabelle out as quickly as possible. I can't tell if the shivers running down my body are from the cold or fear as I unconsciously follow them.
A crunch of leaves snaps me out of my panic train of thoughts as I look up to see if one of them has stepped wrong or something. But panic dawns on me as they both freeze and one of them mumbles: "What the…?”

‘A Necessary Evil’ NZ script
Hey guys! We are finally up to the last episode of the Destiny-Quest-Necessary Evil arc, and boy, are we going out with a bang. Until I started reading through this script I didn’t realise how this story must have evolved! There are so many differences, so this post is going to be long.. #sorrynotsorry.
No, honestly… clear your calendar for the day and grab a coffee because we are going for a ride.. but if you stick with me it will be WELL worth it. 🤯
So first off, a little bit about this script. This one is special to me because it was used on-set in New Zealand and I don’t have many like that. How do I know? The two ring binding on the left is the main give-away along with the fax detailing. The script has seen better days, but considering its 25 years old and been around New Zealand and made its way across the seas to Australia- I think it’s going good!
Who is Russell? Well that’s a mystery I have been trying to work out for many years. I have spoken to people who worked on set and it is still an enigma.
At the top of each page you can see that the document was faxed from LA through to New Zealand on November 8th 1996. I have covered up the number- not sure if it’s still active, but I don’t know international numbers and better safe than sorry!
Interestingly, the shooting schedule for this episode was from November 26th to December 5th with 8 shooting days allocated. Whether this changed because of Lucy’s accident I am not sure, but these are the dates I have on my season 2 main unit production schedule. With this script, I am not sure if it is a final copy because it is annotated ‘2nd draft’. Scripts will go through many versions before the final, but I would have thought because the writers are in LA, only the final would have gone to NZ. But then again the script is dated November 22nd.. which is weeks AFTER it was faxed. Ok there is some voodoo shit going on here. AND if shooting was to begin on the 26th, SURELY it was finalised by the 22nd… but then again.. *I* am a last minute kinda gal so I can’t really judge.. and... Argh! Help! If anyone has a ‘shooting draft’ for this episode, please give me a shout-out- we can compare!
I have digressed. Alright, first up- the teaser. It is so different to what we end up with on screen:
Interestingly, instead of having the dialogue between Gabrielle and Ephiny regarding the ‘Amazon parades’, we have some friendly banter between Xena and Gabrielle about sleeping in late and sleeping in trees. It’s good light-hearted fun.
In the script, Velasca has a lot more meaty dialogue. Which to be honest, I am glad they reduced. Statements like “gift from the gods… to MAKE A GOD” is so much more powerful compared to what is written above. That’s my opinion, but it’s so interesting to read what was originally intended. There was also much more emphasis on Xena being injured in this initial battle which is brought up many times in this script.
The next scene after the intro is also so different to what we saw! I am just going to leave this here...
I have mixed feelings about this. I do feel like the conversation with Xena and Gabrielle is forced, and to be honest, what we got on screen was more genuine. Those two can convey more in one look than 5 pages of dialogue.
Moving on.. Callisto and her pet rat in the Labyrinth of the Gods!
Hear me out. I am glad this changed. I am one of those ones that enjoys Hercules. Let me make clear that I don’t like Sorbo… but I grew up watching the action back-2-back and I will still watch it on occasion. Xena is 10000% times better than Hercules, but I just love the entire WORLD that they create- X:WP, H:TLJ, and Young Hercules. So I like the seamless continuity.
This next one is interesting because this replaces the scene where the Amazons ‘offer’ up Ephiny at night time. I do like the original…
Next up is a bit more of an explanation why they are going in a hole to retrieve Callisto.. continuity.. heh 😄
BUT. I don’t like the implication that Gabrielle would leave Xena? I know it was in jest but I really just don’t think given the circumstances they would joke about that. Or am I being overly analytical?
Down into Callisto’s tomb…
I just wish we saw Xena break off a stalagmite… meanwhile we have Gabrielle and a rabbit up top.

Next up we have a real change from the screen. In the script, Velasca destroys a temple to Demeter, not Artemis.
Artemis makes sense… goddess of the Amazons. Lets stick with the latter shall we?
Now this bit is good. In this script, the manner in which Xena tells the story of Cirra to the villagers and Callisto’s reaction is very different to what we see. Callisto is much more involved.
I would like to have seen how this played out. I greatly admire Hudson’s acting of Callisto because she is such a loose cannon. You never know how it will be portrayed. But that look she gives in the episode- that almost robotic moment; it just makes the scene for me and we would NEVER have got that with this dialogue. So is it greedy of me to want both?
So the scene in the ‘mountain arena’ (as I am going to dub it) isn’t too different, but since Callisto gets blown into pieces I feel it is worth visiting:

I have reservations about how good a ‘general’ Callisto would have been. I think she was much more impulsive and wouldn’t have sat around discussing tactics. She definitely wouldn’t have discussed things on the same level as Xena. I know these differences are dealt with in the scene but I really just don’t see it. I would love to know what others think of this because maybe I am bias… NOTHING could be beat the campfire scene between Gabrielle and Callisto.
I wasn’t going to include this next snippet because I know this post is already very long but… Chariot!!
Alright. Here we are. The penultimate fight. Buckle up. THIS IS SO DIFFERENT. Lets read:

What do you prefer? The Wizard of Oz version or the ‘Less-Wizardy’?
I do really like the imagery of Velasca and Callisto imprisoned like flies in amber, but I am unsure if CGI at the time would have done it justice. The gutteral screams and laughs really get you in the feels in that closing scene. But from what I remember, I think there was intentions to have Velasca resurrected from the lava like Callisto was at some point. At least it was left open and I would have loved her return. Imagine if she came back after the 25-year time jump with no understanding of ANYTHING between Season 2 and Season 6. That would have been fun.

The Beginning of Hope
“It hurts so much!” the teenager cried out.
Xena tried to block the pain from getting to her friend’s brain. “This should help.”
You have no power over me, harpy, the child of darkness taunted the woman silently, having picked up on the slurs Dahak used to refer to the warrior princess.
“I’m afraid! I’m afraid!”
“Gabrielle; don’t think about that right now. We just have to get through this. Now, push!”
I can’t! You don’t understand! He’s here! His cult- They- It’s- Ah! Gods, please! The girl’s frantic thoughts echoed within her straining body, getting through to her daughter at long last.
Don’t be afraid, mommy, the child of the light answered before she could help herself. Please don’t cry. If only you’ll accept me, I won’t hurt you. I just want to be with you. Hold me, mommy, please.

“Push!”
I can’t! I won’t! Images of a crouching gremlin ripping her open to pounce on the warrior flickered before Gabrielle’s dimming vision.
Dahak’s child dropped into her birth canal.
Nooo! “It’s coming!”
A wolf became a lamb as it rode to freedom on a gush of blood.

Her child gurgling in her arms, Gabrielle beamed. “A-goo-goo-goo!” she gushed over Hope, waving a finger in front of the infant’s face and giggling when a tiny hand caught hers. “Who’s mommy’s sweet girl? Oh, who’s mommy sweet girl?” The young mother leaned over her baby to rub their noses together. “Mommy loves you so much! Yes, she does!”
Air, light, and warmth fell away when a rough voice intruded on the tender moment.
“Goewin, take the baby for a while.”

Xena tried a different approach with her friend. “She sure is cute, eh? Gonna look just like her mommy when she grows up; I know it.”
The girl beamed at the woman. “Thank you, Xena.”
Hesitantly, the warrior reached out to smooth shiny bangs. “I only speak the truth.”
Gabrielle leaned into her friend’s touch. “Mm,” she answered peacefully as she turned her head to nuzzle the calloused palm on her face. Then she tutted her tongue. “You’re checking me for fever, aren’t you? I told you; I feel great.”

“Come here. Come on,” the knight coaxed the baby anew as the pendant he was trying to show her glinted in the torchlight.
Disoriented for a second, Hope began to smile again. Pretty, she cooed.
Goewin grinned at her, practically beaming with goodness, as he had once described Gabrielle. But he did not relinquish his treasure.
Give it to me! Hope glared at the man. It’s mine! And mommy needs it! A low growl bubbled in the back of her throat.

Relieved to find that her daughter had stayed put on her blanket, the bard beamed. “Oh, you’re such a good girl! Who’s mommy’s good girl?” Green-blue eyes avoided the dead vermin and insects near Hope that had obviously lost their lives to her displeasure.
The infant glowered at her with unnatural malevolence before reverting to the beleaguered innocent her mother wished to see. Hope fell backward flailing and caterwauling just as she had upon first being left behind.
“Oh, honey; Mommy’s so sorry. But she was only gone a little while! Please don’t cry anymore.” Placing one gentle hand on her baby’s forehead and the other on her tummy, Gabrielle stroked and kissed Hope. “Mommy’s here now. She’ll take care of you. You’ll see!”

“Th-thank you, sweet girl! Thank you!” Tears of joy mixed with no small part of sorrow streamed down Gabrielle’s cheeks. Her much larger hands held Hope’s in place. Memories of her child helping her in other moments of weakness flickered in her mind as well. “Oh, my love. You make everything better. I don’t know how I’m ever going to live without you.” She pulled away from her baby and, locking her gaze on the sparse grass across from her, unsteadily rose to stand once more. “But I won’t take away your chance to live just to preserve myself. I hope- …I hope you’ll be able to understand one day. I…”
Silky, honey-colored locks flew when Gabrielle shook her head, a melancholic smile hitching itself to her face. “I’m going to miss you so much, you know that?” Unconsciously and yet keenly aware of each step, the teenager shuffled as far as she could go without letting the river run over her boots. Once more, she free-fell into a crouch and nearly lost her nerve. This is it. Cascading eyes drifted to tiny fingernails digging into their toy. Her own shaking hand lifted the rolled blanket she planned to use as a decoy with Xena, clutching it close instead of her child. “What can I-” Her broken heart lit in a flicker. It’s worth a shot. Anything is. “Aphrodite, please keep my baby safe. Teach her love, goddess. Let her be filled with it.” An impassible lump formed in her throat and cut off her plea when she let go of the basket carrying her Hope. Goodbye. Then she turned and ran for the rocky hill, hearing the echoes of her soul’s cries get fainter and fainter.

Why We Don't Need A Xena Anytime Soon

anon, one time i asked the tag who they would cast as callisto in the reboot and almost got chased off this site witch pitchforks
i really like all the points you hit on, and i'm here for it--i think xwp is an artifact of its time, and attempts to reframe it in a different context is just... not gonna be the same thing
as a franchise, it's also got so much cultural foundation, look at my mans karl urban in star trek, celeborn is borias in lotr (also feat: blonde karl urban), and so many costume designers/special effects teams that largely did move on to lotr roles, like goddamn
You know for as cool as it would be to see now because they would totally go hard on Xena/Gabrielle...I'm actually glad a XWP reboot hasn't happened yet. Please allow me to explain why. First and foremost, the majority of TV writers do not seem to hold the skills needed to write Xena they way she truly is - she is a VERY violent person so not get that wrong, but she has the ability for good also. She is not going to spend 3-5 episodes being guilted over killing someone if they deserve it and it would better everyone else (see Green Dragon), she will murder them and explains to you for a half an episode why she was right and then move on and it's on you to accept it or not because she's made her peace. She is someone who understands the multiple ways you can hold power over others and yourself and ways to exercise both each day. She's gruff but also has a soft spot in her! She is extremely layered and I don't think again 99% of writers today could do her justice the way Rob and company did her. Secondly, while most pitches assure the upfrontness of Xena and Gabby I feel like that's kind of their one horse being focused on and the series was more than just the one big relationship. You also need to tell us how ancient lore will play in and if you're going more realistic (grittier) or keeping the campy with some light grit nature. Are you going to explore the layers to situations or just have cliche good and bad guys? Are those who are from the original series going to be in the original key or some over the top version? Yeah Callisto is crazed with grief and so she is prepare to murder everyone and anyone but she's not crazy; Xena killed her family and burned down everything she had ("Hercules" Terminator storyline is not cannon to XWP), she's got a right to be upset with her and thus begin her quest to bring her down reputation wise and eventually physically. On the topic of Callisto, and by extension Xena, how many actresses can really balance what Hudson gave us with the crazy eyes but sane tone to what she was saying? I'm not saying it can never be done I'm just saying it's going to be hard to find an actress who can do that line well. The same for whoever would play the iconic title anti-hero because Lucy has become SUCH a legend along with the character I would not envy who has to fill those shoes. At best you have like a handful of actresses now who could probably do this but they will be older actors and we all know they'll want someone who's in their 20s for a reboot because honestly if anyone over 30 was in the role just get Lucy back. Ha It makes me wonder how all the characters would be treated - would Ares be some masognistic villain to show he's bad or would they actually have him clearly horny for Xena yes but it's because he knows she can do things and she happens to be a woman and he likes women so it's a turn on you know? Would Aphrodite be some comedic ditz only or actually allowed moments of emotional intellect where her words save the day? Does Hades always double cross the main characters because he's "the devil" or do they have him like the original where he will work with you if your pitched deal is a good one for him/he owes you a favor? Would the reboot balance both comedy and drama or be one or the other mainly? Would it be action heavy because it's an action genre type show or would they allow for character exploration like the original did at times? The original "Xena: Warrior Princess" balances everything so well that I think it's almost impossible to redo now and have it live up to the original. If they went homage versus reboot that would serve them better I think if they could pull off a repeat of the series. I also don't think it'll happen because while Hollywood loves to copy things now days, so in that respect they'd jump all on it, XWP came out in the mid 90s when shows were kind of doing original content and Hollywood right now especially feels allergic to originality so for all the pitches made to have the series return I don't think it will ever happen really; even if it did
it wouldn't be a network show like the original and that then means things like Showtime or HBO or even SYFY would say no because they're into their own original products and SYFY has the rights to show the original episodes so it's just cheaper for them. Is there room with a homage to improve the series legacy? Sure! We could have an actual good Rift where instead of fighting over kids behaving badly we get Gabrielle having to come to terms hardcore with is Xena someone she really wants to be with when she sees her dark side; take the Green Dragon event again - Gabrielle did not support Xena killing him because of some old debt because she knew it would set Xena back on her redemption path and she really believes theirs other ways than killing so you could have Xena tell her the truth or Gabrielle just feels it and it's like "Is this who I really want to follow? Is she really trying or is this violence who she really is?" and you could drive that into Najara's plot where she's the "good Xena" but Gabby realizes she's doing it for the wrong reason and at least what Xena did helped arguably for awhile so it's the lesser of the evils and they reunite and you can explore how you don't always agree with others but it doesn't mean you can't love them still. It's the old "I don't agree with your choice, but I don't hate you" thing. You could even make it over Callisto and how Gabrielle can understand her rage but say Xena isn't that person now and Callisto says something like "Is she?" when Gabby says she's a good guy who's changed before adding "Or is that just the person she is when you're looking?" and so each time Xena does something questionable Callisto's voice chimes in her head to a point where you reach a Green Dragon situation and Xena still does what she does and Gabby has to come to terms with it. Maybe this is a redo of her spiritual journey minus the Christian visual representations and in the end again she goes back but she understands a bit more of the person she thinks she loves then so she isn't as much of the puppy/desperate to leave girl we first see. That's a way better Rift than rape baby killing people and Xena flipping because Gabrielle wouldn't let her kill what she thought was a helpless child! Could a homage give us an actual battle of the gods if they repeated the Twilight arc? Yes. That plot was pushed into too few episodes for it to be presented the way it fully needed to based on lore. Would an homage now give us in your face, clear as day Xena/Gabrielle? Yep! This is only good though if it's not the only thing the show is brining to the table because there is more LGBT representation out there now so it's not like they would be the go to place like they were in the 90s. Could a homage give us a better ending? 100%! I love what you put out there over all Xena team but that end has issues to say the least; I don't care if you kill Xena, I debate to this day if death isn't her actual redemption for all that's happened, but if you kill her be in the Greece area and for a plot we've seen coming for awhile or whatever the series end season has been on not some random new story that's set thousands of miles away! 😡 So yeah I'm not saying a "reboot" doesn't have merit or a place in TV future I'm just saying the original did a lot so well it's going to be hard for a homage to really do the legacy justice without true care for the product. You can't just hire any old random group of staff members to do a series like this and have it be what it was...the original was so well done because the crew cared - from the stunt teams to the writers and actors, they literally put all their hopes and dreams into this and it shows the passion. Xena is not some girl trying to be a male hero - she's jacked physically because she's on a horse most of the time and that works your thighs, she swings a 20lbs sword 90% of the time and if you do that you two would probably have arm muscles, and she's tall because genetics. She's broody not because that's a male only trait, she's broody because some of her actions
are bothering her now and she's not sure how to fix them because people hate her for what she could do and thus don't give her a chance without Gabrielle to hype her up first. Just because society has tried to genderize certain traits because the majority of one sex does them doesn't mean the trait itself is a gender; Xena is not trying to be some stoic male lead you envision now, she's just badass like that because it's who's she always was. The show is not some comedy with beats of drama trying to be cute, it's a drama which at times had comedy because if they didn't laugh at somethings which happened they'd die from stress. Don't get me wrong, personally, I am a fan of a grittier Xena because it might explore even more character aspects but it can't be HBO After Dark levels of just violence and despair either because that's not honest to the source material. If it was all comedy or all drama it would feel like something was missing. You can't just set up a plot like Callisto and have it either fade into the background or be wrapped up in 2 episodes...well maybe you could wrap it up faster than the original did but you'd miss so much and yeah I just don't know if a creative team today could do justice to the original. "Xena: Warrior Princess" is such a lightening in a bottle show and it doesn't get the respect it deserves because most just see the camp and thus tragically miss the level of depth these characters had...they miss the nuance performances some of these actors gave; they down rate it on LGBT scales for being subtext which is to a point fair but when you think of all they achieved during the 90s to show as much as they did...there's couples now which could do more on shows and do less! Forget the LGBT stuff all together even for a moment and remember a white female title lead character's other big love on the series which she literally went to Hell to save was a black man...not a lot of that happening in the 90s folks! They crack comments about the stunts...I'm sorry tell me again how realistic it is on your show that a car flips 20 times after hitting a rock or how it's totally believable instead that 5 bad guys would stand around waiting to jump into a fight with the hero one by one instead of just shooting him. Some people want to dismiss the series a just a lesbian show forgetting how it showed young women you can stand up too and your opinion matters just as much...the series showed women getting sh*t done because women too can get sh*t done. Xena didn't defeat Ares regularly because that's just how the show went, she did it because he thought with his d*ck at times and she used that to her advantage because while she's physically gifted she also knows the value of mental strengths too and she thought her way out of things also. Gabrielle especially was a mental escapist for trouble showing there's more ways than just punching to achieve goals; this was another level of diversity the series offered watchers! XENA is so much better than people give it credit for and I would want any reboot or homage to only come out if it put as much passion into the project as the original did, bare minimum I'm going to need you to show up with 98% care and passion because it's a reboot not a repeat so this allows them to change some things such as being open with X/G but on the whole almost coping the original wouldn't be too bad a path. Again edit some things to go better such as the Rift but yeah the original is a classic for a reason and it's not just because a bunch of lesbians keep talking about it. Xena is 25 years strong because it treated female characters with respect and allowed them to effect things not just stand in scenes and say a line or two to suggest they're tough, it shows a layered anti-hero who you could argue may really be a villain at the end of the day people still aren't sure because the writing was that good and complex and showed the reality of a human being who went through those things and depending on where you stand in relation to them she is one or the other or maybe even a bit of
both...I can't tell you a male or female character like that now that brings that level of debate to them, and it's still strong because the creative team believed in their vision for the characters (instead of going out of their way to no homo the series they got more blatant and just clever in how they hid it so it go on screen without censors shutting them down; instead of dressing Xena up in a dress to show she's a woman they kept her exactly how she is because she is a woman an a piece of clothing does not define her gender)! There's SO much to explore still today with the original and be thankful for and inspire to with it soy yeah if they bring it back I'm going to need them to do it with the right mindset or I'll keep just enjoying my DVDs thank you. Long post I know but it kept coming out the more I wrote until I finished. 🙂

MERIDA

Notable heroic deeds: taking responsibility for killing of an unicorn and almost dying of it, saving Anastasia from Mordred, reuniting the clans of DunBroch under her reign after (another) uprising

ANASTASIA

Notable heroic deeds: helping Will get through his self-destructing episode (with Tiana and Alice), almost dying to give Merida a good shot (pun intended) at Mordred, withstanding repeated capturing and torturing by Morgana, stopping Ella from killing/hurting Regina (along with Drizella)

Tinker Bell and Tiger Lily became an item thanks to the altered timeline, in the “new” past, it is Tinker Bell who helps Emma give Regina a wonderful birthday gift thanks to Tiger Lily’s tutoring, which also lead to Aladdin’s appearance in Storybrooke or Sidney/the Genie’s arrival at the beach outside of Leopold’s castle
Hero rank: 5/10 - they remain quite a neutral force throughout the story
THE KNIGHTS OF CAMELOT
Status: various
The Knights of Camelot deserve at the very least to be mentioned, because of their loyalty, chivalry and readiness to fight for good.

CW Supergirl....you should have the courage and conviction to deliver what you’ve set up.
Many of us saw from the first scene between Melissa Benoist and Katie McGrath noticed something immediately…. the amazing chemistry you cannot create. The CW writers saw it too, a fact that influenced their decision to keep the character of Lena longer than originally intended. The incredible portrayal by the very talented actress not only cemented interest in Lena, but also piqued the audience curiosity on where this relationship would go. The similarity in background with both having experienced loss being orphans, built an understanding that was the perfect added touch for a friendship to blossom. They delivered in Lena a complex and compelling character, who had overcome adversity from a young age. Lena is fundamentally good, in-spite of not having known love growing up, and suffering nothing but betrayals. She’s an intelligent and capable businesswoman, a dedicated scientist, and a genius who strives to better mankind having cured cancer, saved Supergirl and the world more than once. (My god! They would have married them by now if she was a man!!). Inevitably with such strong compelling portrayals by both Benoist and McGrath, the writers began playing up to the chemistry. The romantic parallels where blatant, and there was often downright baiting of the fans, with certain dialogue and scenes that were far beyond platonic. It was obvious to anyone truly looking. It was a case of doing one thing by pairing them with others, and then hinting at something underlying in practically every scene they had together. Even station episode promos and television advertisements in other countries started playing up the romantic angle. It was ‘lightning in a bottle’ and it seems it was too much to resist when gifted with such strong chemistry, knowing it was delivering ratings and fans.
They continued crafting this relationship that grew in-front of our eyes, that developed and strengthened season after season through trials and adversity. Their bond just kept getting stronger and their love for each other was clearly demonstrated by how a secret unrevealed caused so much devastation to both, once Kara’s identity was finally out. The emotional reveal by Melissa Benoist was riveting and powerful, and no one can forget Lena’s breakdown in the fortress of solitude, Katie McGrath delivered a level of emotional trauma not easily portrayed. Both are excellent and very talented actresses. As if it wasn’t obvious by now that Kara and Lena’s relationship is integral to the show…. the 100th episode made it abundantly clear beyond a shadow of a doubt! In addition the episode displayed just how much these characters are willing to sacrifice for each other!! If anyone still thinks that isn’t love…. I don’t know how to help you. Which brings us to the crux of the issue with audience disillusion and discontent…. (and we’re not just talking Supercop fans). Many industry reviews and non-shippers alike have seen what is blatantly obvious regarding this denial of the relationship, the CW says one thing but does another. Over the seasons it’s cost them viewers and this season may be the final nail in the coffin. For a show that supposedly says they champion LGBT characters they appear to be in a state of complete homophobic terror at having to deliver on what they have teased for season after season….and in 2020 that is no longer acceptable. What is so wrong in stating your lead character is bisexual? Why is that considered wrong for Supergirl CW, since one of the DC book writers said on twitter, they considered the character to be indeed bisexual.
The fact remains CW have backed themselves into a corner…. they have the impossible task of delivering a character to rival Lena as a fan favourite, and logical love interest. Particularly because into the 5th season it is too late to make anyone believable in comparison. Not to mention the daunting task of finding anyone with that level of chemistry is not simple….in-fact it is difficult because it is rare. You only need to look at other ground-breaking shows remembered for the chemistry of the characters, to see what can make or break your show. Xena was one show were the writers realized the chemistry between their leads and by the end of the show rather than deny it they made it obvious and stated in cannon they were soulmates, even if the romance was only subtext throughout the seasons. However, that show ended 20 years ago and CW have no excuse in 2020. Hence the reason why their actions today could mistakenly appear as though Supergirl CW are just carelessly not caring if they are insulting the collective intelligence of their fandom, by throwing William at Kara. Out of nowhere this forced pairing with no chemistry and completely lacking in any way to make it remotely special, is supposed to be realistic and satisfying?! No……it is not even remotely satisfying or even adequate. Why? Well for starters the character by no fault of the actor, is simply introduced in a very bland fashion, and is just too dull. He also lacks charisma and an interesting backstory. Also frankly the lack of chemistry with Benoist is just awkward. Maybe it’s because he’s another man and she’s newly married…. don’t know but it’s just painful, chemistry cannot be faked it’s there or it’s not. 100th ep also showed what real chemistry looks like, it was there in spades with both Lena and Mon-El. Even in just a few scenes with Mon-El. So yes, that is a huge issue whether they want to admit it or not and reviews are rife pointing this out. Kara cannot be saddled with William this late in the game as the love interest, it’s just completely and utterly anticlimactic. The female Superhero leading a cast of empowered women cannot just settle for the random guy at work!
