Beorn was so hot in the book and I feel like we don't talk about it enough.
Like I'm sorry that's "a great strong black-haired man with huge arms and a great beard" (as Gandalf said) who loves animals, has a great wooden house, has a good sense of humor, is very protective of those he cares about (literally followed the dwarves all the way to Mirkwood from the distance to make sure his ponies are safe), is hella strong, a good host and later becomes a great chief who rules the wide land between the Misty Mountains and Mirkwood.
I'm sorry but if that isn't an ideal man right there then idk what is..

Far From Home (Thorin x Reader)
youtube
Tumblr media
A/N: So, I believe the song Far From Home (The Raven) by Sam Tinnesz is such a perfect song for Thorin. The video is above. I wanted to make a story about the reader singing it and Thorin being a bit awe struck. I decided to make the reader from our modern world, and she fell into Middle Earth, I’m sure you might have read stories like these where the reader is modern an stuff. Anyways, I hope you enjoy my first Thorin fanfic! Let me know if I captured his character correctly.
-Part 1- , Part 2
Pairing: Thorin x Modern!Fem!Reader
Warnings: Mild swearing, angst, again?
Word Count: No idea.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I remembered when I woke up here, Middle Earth. I had seen the movies, and read the books. I highly enjoyed J.R.R Tolkiens writings, they helped me escape reality. But to really, really, be in the story. That was something new entirely. The company was around me when I woke, of course naturally I freaked the fuck out. I was no longer in the safety of my own home, and strangers where circling me. I yelled and got up quickly, backing away only to have my back hit another person. That person I now know as Gandalf, Gandalf the Grey. He was one of my favorite people in Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit.
They argued about what they should do with me... Gandalf said said that I’m a good omen or something of that sort and they should bring me along. To which some agreed, but the leader, Thorin, of course did not. The thing that really got Thorin to bring me with was the fact that I was alone, and if they left me out here I would surely die. He said they would drop me off at the nearest town they could.
I soon found out that I dropped in just a day before they ran into the Trolls who stole the ponies. Let’s just say that ordeal was... a bit traumatizing in person. Trolls are disgusting. Although I knew of how this story goes, and what the company and I would face, it was different to actually be in a life threatening situation over and over again.
Then soon after being captured by Trolls we played a life endangering game of Hide and Seek. I am not a good runner, never was. Thorin was quite pissed when I kept falling behind and nearly falling on my ass every 5 seconds. So he just kept a hold on me, literally. I thank him for saving my life, although I did not appreciate being thrown into a rocky hole in the ground. That hurt.
Let me say, Rivendell is absolutely beautiful! It’s bigger than shown in the movies, much more places to explore. At the dinner I sat with Elrond, Gandalf, and Thorin (and Bilbo?). That made me really nervous, but Elrond seemed to know that I was not from this world. He practily took a look at me and told Thorin “Take her with you”, in a much fancier way, of course. I don’t know if it’s because he knew I knew the fate of them, or because he didn’t want me there. I hoped it was not the latter. Either way, Thorin wasn’t so happy. It took a lot of talking to get him to finally agree to take me with him. Elrond had approached me after dinner and said I was always welcome in Rivendell if I decided I didn’t want to go with the company, I kinda wanted to take his offer but I knew I had to save the line of Durin. I wanted to make a difference.
Giant mountain rock monsters? Terrifying. But I survived, so that’s good. The Goblins, I fucking hate them. They’re worse then the Trolls. When It came time to run again, Thorin quickly realized I’m still, in fact, slow. So he once again kept his hold on me, another point to Thorin for keeping me alive. Oh, and this is about the time that it finally kicked in that I’m in Middle Earth, but I managed to dodge that crisis of realization by having to run for my life, once again. Surprisingly, I managed to keep up this time.
Dwalin kept on having to pull me up from the tree branches because I kept falling. Point to Dwalin. I realized I have an overwhelming fear of heights, at least when I’m hanging from a tree for dear life. Bilbo mustered up his courage and did his, “I’mma save Thorin” thing. Thank god, because I was too busy trying not to fall to my death. The Eagles came to our rescue, a point to Gandalf because I was literally falling when they came.
Once we where put down on Pride Rock, I had to sit the fuck down to catch my breath. That Bilbo and Thorin hug was sweet, but then the realization had time to fully hit me, it was not fun. Would I get to go home? Did I really want to? I wasn’t sure, but my mood was the lowest it had been in a while. I guess the Durin brothers realized I was quieter then normal, so they tried to cheer me up. It kinda worked, but not much. I managed to convince them I was only tired, so they gave in and let me be.
Soon after came more running, Thorin kept his hold on me as soon as we started running. Thorin earned his third point for saving my life, funny thing is that it was all over the same thing. Running. That leads us to where we are now, in Beorns house. I was very thankful to have a place to properly relax. Of course I started to thing more about the fact that I might never see my family again, and may not be able to save the Durins, which of course made me sad. I sat farther away from everyone else, I decided to get my mind of all the bad by taking a look around, so I did. There wasn’t much to really look at, but a guitar caught my interest. It was a little big but I didn’t mind.
I always enjoyed playing the guitar back on Earth, so I picked it up and sat down with it in my lap, I started to play a tune to one of my favorite songs.
“You play the guitar, lass?” Bofur called from across the room.
“Yes.” I gave him a short answer. I hadn’t talked much to anyone in the company, I mostly only talked to Fili and Kili and even that wasn’t often, so it caught me off guard.
“You where playing a tune you seem to know, mind singing it?” Fili said.
“Oh- no no, I’m not a good singer.” I replied with a chuckle.
“Sure you are, just give it a try.” Kili joined in with his brother. He had a cheeky smile plastered on his face.
“It may lighten the mood.” Bofur added.
“The tune I was playing isn’t exactly a happy song, Bofur.” I said. “Nor do I know how to play any other song.”
“Well, I would sure like to hear it either way.” He said.
“Yes! Please do sing for us Y/n.” Fili added, once again.
“Leave the poor lass be.” Balin said across from the room, but they ignored him.
“Once we take back Erebor, I’ll ask Uncle to add your chambers into the royalty part of the mountain! We would have windows unlike the rest of the mountain.” Kili said.
“Kili, what makes you think I want to stay in Erebor?” I asked with a giggle. Kili put his hand over his heart and gasped, mocking offense.
“Seriously though, will you sing for us?” Kili said.
“If I do, will you all shut up about it?”I asked them all. “No offense.” I added.
“Promise.” Fili said. Bofur, Kili, and surprisingly Ori, who had been listening, nodded along.
“Okay then...” I said. A small sigh escaped my lips, I didn’t think this through. I really didn’t want to sing in front of everyone. For a moment everyone seemed to get quiet, but I ignored it and put the guitar up in the right position. I took a deep breathe and...
(Play song now if you want to, video is above. I know the song isn’t with a guitar or a female but just pretend I guess.)
I'm sending raven Black bird in the sky Sending a signal that I'm here Some sign of life
I'm sending a message Of feathers and bone Just let me know I'm not forgotten Out here alone
The air is cold The night is long I feel like I might fade into the dawn Fade until I'm gone
Oh I'm so far from home So far from home Oh Not where I belong Not where I belong Oh
I'm so far from home So far from home
I'm sending a raven With blood on its wings Hoping it reaches you in time And you know what it means
Cause out here in the darkness And out of the light If you get to me too late Just know that I tried
Oh I'm so far from home So far from home Oh Not where I belong Where I belong Oh I'm so far from home So far from home
The air is cold The night is long I feel like I might fade into the dawn Fade until I'm gone
Oh I'm so far from home So far from home Oh Not where I belong Where I belong Oh I'm so far from home So far from home
Oh Not where I belong Where I belong So far from home Not where I belong I'm so far from home
The song ended and everyone was quiet, I started to get really nervous and embarrassed. I laughed it off, and tried to play it cool.
“I told you it wasn’t really a happy song.” I said, while looking at the ground.
“That was beautiful, lass.” Balin said, his eyes held a gentle look to them.
“It really was.” Ori added.
“Um, Thank you. I know I don’t have the best voice and all...” My voice trailed off.
“Oh, it was amazing Y/n! You should sing more often.” Kili said. He had a bright smile on his face.
“You flatter me.” I laughed. I kept my eyes to the ground though. Suddenly, Thorin spoke up.
“Everyone, find a place to rest. We have a long day ahead of us.” Thorin said. I looked up and gave everyone a small smile the got up and walked to a different room. I pretended to be looking for something but really I just needed to calm my nerves. After a while of “looking”, I sat down at the table and laid my head down.
“Everyone is getting rest, you should too.” I heard Thorin’s voice say. I simply hummed as a responce, keeping my head down. I heard shuffling and a chair move, I guess that he sat down opposite of me.
“I know it wasn’t your choice to go on this trip. So if you want, we can drop you off next town, where ever that it.” He spoke. I lifted my head up to look at him.
“Thorin, you have it wrong. I chose to go on this journey, Elrond offered me to stay in Rivendell if I didn’t want to go on the quest, but I declined. I chose this.” I told him. He stayed quiet for a moment.
“Why?” He asked.
“What?”
“Why did you chose to come along? You can’t fight, you can’t even run. Why did you come along?” Thorin replied. I was a bit hurt, he really didn’t want me on this quest, did he? It took a moment for me to respond, I looked down at my hands.
“I know I slow the company down... I know I get in the way. I try not to, I really do, but it happens anyways. But...” I looked up back at Thorin, his blue eyes locked with mine. “I know why I’m here, I don’t know how, but I know what I’m supposed to do. And I intend to do it. You may not know but I do.” I finished. Thorin was quiet his eyes now on the table, he was deep in thought.
“That song...” He started, his voice was strangly softer than before. I hadn’t seen this side of him. He looked back up to me, and I seemed to read the question that was on his mind.
“I don’t know if I’m going home, Thorin.” I answered for him. “I’m not even sure if I want to...”
“Any reason for that?” He asked me.
“Yeah, but I won’t tell you.” I stated simply, a smile graced my lips. Thorin nearly smiled back but he stopped himself.
“Get some rest, we don’t want you slowing us down more than you already do.” He said, his voice was still soft though. I laughed and got up from my seat.
“You too, Thorin.”
I really don’t know how I did on this. I had an idea, idk if I executed it right. I also have no idea how to write Thorin’s character so If you have any idea’s on how to improve let me know. Not even sure if there is enough Thorin x Reader in there. This might just be the begining of a story, maybe I can make a part 2 so I can add more Thorin x Reader. Oof, I really don’t know about this one. Give me an honest review so I can improve :)
How would they react after being hit by a snowball?  (Hobbit Edition)
Thorin - He'd freeze, momentarily unsure on how to take being hit square in the head by the ball of snow, before he'd glare at you.  You'd have a momentary amount of panic, thinking that you were about to get in trouble, before he was scooping up his own snow ball and throwing it back.
Balin - It had been a long time since anyone had thrown a snowball at Balin and you almost thought that he was only going to say as such and move on, but to your delight he challenged you to a fight and said he definitely wasn't too old for this.
Dwalin - When Dwalin had actually growled, you turned on your heel and bolted, knowing well what Dwalin's wrath was like.  Unfortunately, he caught up to you quicker than what you thought he would, but instead of throwing a snowball at you, he shoved a large handful down your shirt, making you shriek and him chuckle, but it was then his turn to run.
Fili - You'd been trying to get him back for a while now, which was common for the two of you, and you felt this was the perfect way.  Although, perhaps your timing could've been better than a family dinner, resulting in raised voices, and a lot of laughing from both Fili and Kili, and you were sure even a small smile from Thorin.
Kili - You were meant to be out hunting together, but after seeing no sign if anything, you'd quickly got bored and snuck away a little.  It took Kili a monent to realise, his voice a little panicked, before the snowball hit him square in the face.  The two of you had returned exhausted, but grinning, until you were asked about where the food was.
Bofur - In all honesty, you'd been trying to get his hat off, something that was a near constant war between the two of you.  You almost thought you'd managed as he toppled forward from the impact, but soon, you were running, laughing hard as Bofur tried to get you back.  He caught you and the two of you went down into the snow where, somehow, you got the upper hand and stole his hat, sitting it snugly over your ears and grinning.
Bombur - Bombur never struck you as someone who hated the cold, and yet in winter, he hardly left the kitchen if he could help it, muttering about it being too cold anywhere else.  It made it difficult to really get him outside, but with Bofur's help, he begrudgingly stepped out into the snow.  You let him comfortable before evening daring to try a snowball, after which he glared at you and threw one back.  He was quick to return to the kitchen though, deciding he wasn't going to fall for it again.
Bifur - He'd stared at you confused for a moment, unsure of what to do, things still not entirely back to normal in his head, before he was pelting you with snow balls, quicker than what you thought he could be, you hardly having a chance to try and fight back.  It ended with you begging for mercy and him laughing before pulling you close to get you warm again.
Oin - He hated winter and he made sure that everyone knew it.  There were so many more sick to deal with, most due to their own faults (so he said) amd it made his life a lot more busier than it needed to be.  When you had him with a snowball, he'd barely even paused before he started lecturing you, so you hit again.  This went on for a few snowballs before he finally grumbled and threw one back.  More lectures came later when you both got sick, but you decided it was more than worth it.
Gloin - Gloin found it hilarious once he taught Gimli how to throw a decent snowball, especially as Gimli liked going after you.  You were quick to correct the young dwarf by showing that his father was just as viable a target, Gloin staring at you with wide eyes, the snow tumbling through his beard, with no time to react before Gimli was attacking him too.
Dori - Not a fan of winter, Dori only very reluctantly would head out into the snow, too many memories of winter past with Nori ambushing him.  You eventually got him out, but he wasn't relaxing, nearly always looking over his shoulder, to the point you threatened to throw one at him, which made him threaten to back inside.  It continued until you did, but he didn't leave, getting you back, and it wasn't long before the two of you made a pact to get Nori.
Nori - Nori was tough to get at the best times, but after you got sick of him getting you, you had to swear vengeance somehow.  Somehow came in the form of Fili and Kili and Ori, setting up an ambush, the unfortunate younger brother the bait.  Ori almost gave it away, but not before you threw the hardest snowball you could at Nori, getting him very much in the face.  Then it was on between the four of you, Ori bolting for cover and Fili and Kili not being satisfied with just getting Nori.  The tale became a long running joke throughout Erebor.
Ori - You honestly thought nothing of it, it was a day out, the snow tempting, and you couldn't resist the urge from when you were younger, taking careful aim at Ori.  Your mistake was forgetting you were with his family, and that you were always a better thrower than you thought you were, getting Ori in head so hard that he toppled forward face first in the snow.  There were shouts and Dori and Nori instantly went on the defence, pelting you with snow, but it eventually calmed into something more fun when Ori was back on his feet, red faced, but throwing snow back.
Bilbo - Bilbo always thought that he would grow out of snowball fights and chasing each other down, but he knew he was wrong as soon as you hit him and broke into giggles as the snow got stuck in his hair, breaking out onto a grin before the two of you chasing each other, soon children seeing and joining in, and neither of you cared as some other hobbits cast disapproving glances.
Bard - Any sort of fight like that, had to involve his children as well, so when they complained one day that they were bored and Bard had said no to a snow fight, you took ot into your own hands, falling a little bit behind before hitting him with a snowball.  The children reacted instantly, joining you, while Bard almost tried to look displeased, but the laughter soon got to him and he joined in too.
Thranduil - Most thought that Thranduil had long forgone the idea of 'fun', too worried about protecting his kingdom, and most would've warned, had they known your plan, not to tempt fate.  You were having none of it, the snowball hitting Thranduil as he left one day, the snow settling around his crown as he blinked at you, the guards either side holding back laughter.  It wasn't until you threw a second, that his eyes narrowed and he told his guards to leave.  People could think what they wanted about Thranduil, but you knew better.
Legolas - The first time you'd hit Legolas with a snowball, you fully expected to be absolutely slaughtered in a snowball fight, especially given his record with a bow, only to be shocked when he missed horribly.  It then became a thing every winter, much to Legolas's annoyance (not really) where you'd take full advantage of him being a terrible throw.
Beorn - Had it been anyone else, Beorn most likely would've turned into a bear and chased them down, however, as it was you, he chuckled even as you broke into giggles, scooping up another handful.  It wasn't often that you could spend time like this, usually there was some work to do and nighttime was too cold to be outside, so moments like this, both of you cherished.
Trials and Tribulations
Overall Summary: Sometimes being a dwarven skin-changer was helpful especially if you could see up to a year into the future. Using your powers, you try to keep the Durins, yes, including Frerin, alive. Can you do it especially when feelings for the light haired prince come to surface?
Chapter Summary: It’s been three years since you’ve been home and now you were ready to go back.
Pairings: Frerin x Reader
Word Count: 857
Warnings: None
Previous Chapter: Chapter 15
Final Chapter: Chapter 17
It had been three years since you left Erebor and it had been the best three years of your life. You had met all of the skinchangers that were left and it was like you were finally whole. You felt complete. You learned how to change forms easier and could change into any beast you could think of. Beorn was not happy when you decided to change into a spider one night. He even gave you a whole lecture on why you shouldn’t change into predators and you just laughed.
After all this, it was decided that you needed to go home. You loved them but you knew your heart was in Erebor.
Soaring above Dale, you look at the field that the battle took place in and see three dwarves surrounded by four others walking back to Erebor and you just know who they are.
Diving down, you change into your wolf form halfway and you tackle all three of the dwarves to the ground.
One dwarf lets out a laugh and you look up to find Dwalin. The other guards look a bit apprehensive and are holding their weapons towards you.
“Lay down your arms. She’s no more dangerous than a fly,” Dwalin says as Thorin lets out a groan.
You press down on him as he tries to get up and he grunts as he makes contact with the ground again.
“Get off of me you great beast,” he grits out and you get off of them, letting the three Durins breathe.
“Even after all these years, I’m still not used to it,” Frerin says as he stands and you give him a huge lick, spit coating his face. He groans in disgust and you let out a laugh, the laugh sounding like a bark to the dwarves ears.
Thorin rests his hands in your fur and you lean into the touch before rubbing your cheek against his facs. He coughs a bit, getting your fur in his mouth and you snort before changing into a raven and flying over to Fili’s shoulder.
You knew that dwarves could speak to ravens this is the most helpful form.
“Got a hang of changing forms did you?” Fili asks, petting your head with his index finger and you lean into his touch before pulling back.
“You should see my other forms,” you say, stretching your wings and hitting Fili in the face.
“Sorry,” you say, rubbing your head against his as he rubs his now sore eye.
“It’s fine, Auntie,” he laughs, giving you a smile, “just don’t shit on my back.”
You give a light nip on his ear before flying over to Dwalin.
“Have you been keeping them in line?” You ask and he lets out a laugh.
“You know I have. Bilbo, however, has been better at it than I am,” he says and you both turn to look at Thorin who is currently blushing.
“Care to explain?” You ask.
You don’t know much about what has transpired between Thorin and Bilbo seeing that you missed the more important parts of the journey. You do remember the hug that they shared on the Carrock and that Thorin started treating Bilbo a bit better but that was it. You were never given an explanation as to what happened between when they left and Ravenhill.
“Not to a bird,” he grumbles causing Fili and Frerin to laugh.
“Let’s go inside then. I’d quite like to change back, but I can’t really do that,” you say and the dwarves chuckle, continuing their trek back to Erebor.
-
“Three years it took you to tell me that you almost killed Bilbo! Three years!” You exclaim, hitting Thorin upside the head.
After finding out what happened, you were not happy and the story wasn’t even halfway done yet! He had just gotten done explaining what happened on the ramparts.
“Trust me, I was just as upset when I realized what I had done to my one,” Thorin grumbles, rubbing the back of his head and you look at him confused.
“One?”
“Let’s just skip everything else and say that Thorin is absolutely in love with the hobbit and then confessed his feelings to our little hobbit and now they’re going to be married in a month or so,” Frerin says, avoiding the hand that reaches out to slap him.
“Why haven’t I been told of this?” You complain.
“Because I knew you would drop everything to come here- don’t deny it - and I wanted you to be with your kin. It’s about time you found someone like you and I didn’t want to take that from you,” Thorin explains and you have to admit: he was completely right.
You would have dropped everything just to come back here and you would have no regrets. Thorin was your brother in everything but blood and to hear he finally found his One made you happy
The door slams open to reveal a happy Kili.
“Auntie!” He exclaims, pulling you up from the chair and into a hug.
You laugh, wrapping your arms around his neck. It was great to be home.
Feisty Little Hobbit
Overall Summary: You are Bilbo’s little sister but the exact opposite
Chapter Summary: The sickness that you heard Lord Elrond talk about makes an appearance.
Previous Chapter: Chapter 15
Next Chapter: Chapter 17
Thorin flies something at Fili and he catches it easily. Its a large red ruby. Fili turns it over in his hand, confused. Judging by the look on Bilbo’s face, this is what Lord Elrond meant by sickness.
When you look at Thorin, the look in his eye suggested that he wasn't in his right mind. Something was wrong. He seemed more dangerous and scary.
You look at Fili again and he looks afraid. It seems that he too has noticed that Thorin was not okay. You would be afraid to if the person you were supposed to follow in the footsteps of suddenly acted like this.
You turn back and head the way you came. You needed to find the rest of the company. Thorin and Bilbo had survived but where were the others?
You don’t notice how Thorin’s eyes linger on you.
You are excited when you are reunited with the rest of the company. They all made it out. Every single one of them.
You watch everyone embrace each other happily from a corner, feeling like it was not your place to join in their hugs. Although you had traveled this far together, you had yet to be comfortable with any physical contact. Well, you were more uncomfortable with hugging them. You were unsure if they wanted you to hug them or if it would be awkeard.
Dwalin, of all people, is the first dwarf to scoop you up into a hug.
“I’m so glad that you are safe,” he tells you after putting you down. You smile up at him.
“It’ll take more than a poison arrow to kill this hobbit,” you tell him and he chuckles
You giggle as he is pushed aside by Nori.
“Move along, baldy,” Nori says before pulling you into a hug. You laugh at their antics. Maybe physical contact wasn’t so bad.
“Any sign of it?”
You and the rest of the company were currently trying to find the arkenstone to which you were making no progress. You suspected that Bilbo already had it but that was something you would keep to yourself.
“Nothing here!” Ori calls.
“Keep searching!” Thorin calls out.
“That jewel could be anywhere!” You hear oin complain.
“The arkenstone is in these halls! Find it!” Thorin exclaims yet again and with that, you plop down on the mountain of gold. It was tiring. It had been hours since you started and Thorin had not given you a break.
“Y/n! No one rests until it is found,” Thorin growls out. You look at him and flip him off. He growls and you can hear him mutter, “insufferable hobbits.”
You wanted so bad to throw something at his head. You were the ones doing all the work and he dare speak to you like this? If he wanted something done, he should have done it himself. You look around for Bilbo and he is nowhere to be seen.
Fili comes to stand in front of you, holding out his hand. You sigh and take it. Your two minute break was over.
“What are you doing?”
You open your eyes to find Thorin standing right in front of you.
It had been a week since the mountain was reclaimed and Thorin had forced all of you to look for the arkenstone without giving you a break. It was exhausting. You had gone a week without sleep now and Thorin was making you work hard. He was definitely not the same Thorin you met at Bag End and it scared you so much. The look in his eyes was getting much worse and so was his attitude. You were afraid that he might just kill someone if they just stepped an inch out of line.
“I am exhausted Thorin. Absolutely no one got any amount of sleep and it’s been a week,” you tell him.
Thorin lets out a sigh, taking a seat next to you on the bench. Right now, he seems to be back to his normal self. You really wondered how long that would last.
“I know and I’m sorry, but the arkenstone is really important,” he explains.
“I know it is,” you say, closing your eyes again and wishing he would just go away to let you rest.
“How is your wound? I hadn’t got a chance to talk to you since you had arrived.”
“It only hurts when something rubs against it,” you reply quietly.
Thorin raises his brow at you.
“Something is wrong,” Thorin states.
That makes you snap.
“Of course something is wrong! Its been seven days since I’ve last slept. Eight really since my wound kept me up all night the night before you left. Speaking of, you left us! You left me, then forced Bilbo to go with you! I thought dwarves were all about family, but you broke families apart. You left your nephews, your own flesh and blood, and denied them the first steps into Erebor. You told me, when we left Beorn’s that I was an important member of the company, but obviously that was a lie,” you say, standing.
You leave Thorin to think about your words.
You turn a few corners to find Bilbo sitting in a secluded corner. In his hand is what you guess must be the arkenstone. You knew it.
Bilbo looks up in panic as he hears your footsteps. He relaxes as he realizes it’s just you.
You take a seat next to him, staring at the stone, mesmerized.
“That’s it, isn’t it?” You ask and he nods before slipping it back into his pocket.
“Thorin will not be happy,” you say and he sighs.
“I know, but according to Balin it is safer that it is kept away from him,” Bilbo says.
“I want to go home, Bilbo. We did what was in the contract. We got the mountain back,” you complain.
“I know, but i just feel like something is going to happen,” he says, digging into his pocket to bring out an acorn.
“What do you have in your hand?”
You would recognize that voice anywhere. Why couldn't he just leave you alone for five seconds?
“What do you have in your hand?” Thorin snaps again and Bilbo stands.
“Its nothing,” Bilbo stutters.
“Show me!” Thorin growls.
Bilbo opens his hand to reveal the acorn. Thorin looks absolutely surprised.
“I picked it up. In Beorn’s garden,” he says and you look at Thorin’s face.
The sickness was gone and replaced with the Thorin you knew and loved.
“You carried it all this way?” Thorin asks in awe.
Your brother was always the sentimental one. He kept literally everything he came across. You feared that, when he grew old, Bag End would be a cluttered mess with books, maps, and even old weapons and armor.
“Of course,” Bilbo says, “i will plant and when I look at it. I’ll remember. The good. The bad. And how lucky i am to have made it home.”
Thorin smiles and its contagious. You missed this Thorin.
“Thorin-,”
“Thorin! There are survivors from Lake Town streaming into Dale!” Dwalin exclaims and the smile immediately turns into a scowl.
“Call everyone to the gates,” he growls, leaving the two of you behind.
You and Bilbo exchange looks. This wasn’t going to end well.
And it doesn’t. Thorin had just denied Bard the gold that was promised to Lake Town and you were currently watching him ride back to Dale, the city that now contained hundreds of elves and angry fishermen.
“What did you just do?” You exclaim, causing everyone to turn to you, “you cannot go to war.”
“This does not concern you,” Thorin says, not looking you in the face.
“What do you mean it does not concern me?! I have been through hell and back for you Thorin Oakenshield! I have been on the brink of death twice and you dare tell me that this does not concern me?” You exclaim.
Thorin slowly turns to you.
“Like you stated earlier, you are not important to me. The only reason you were brought along this journey was to steal the stone and you had failed to do that. Your parents were right in wishing Bilbo was the only child. You are nothing but useless,” Thorin says before abruptly pushing past you.
You try to ignore the pain in your chest, but you can't. He hit you right where it hurt.
Feisty Little Hobbit
Overall Summary: You are Bilbo’s little sister but the exact opposite
Chapter Summary: You make a great escape.
Previous Chapter: Chapter 13
Next Chapter: Chapter 15
A/N: I really wanted to add another chapter so here it is.
You get shoved into the same cell you were in earlier.
“Still an ass,” you say. “Still heard that,” the guard retorts and you smile a bit before taking a seat on the floor.
“Now I understand what Beorn meant when he said Mirkwood elves are more dangerous,” you say to Thorin, who was currently sitting on the bed and leaning against the wall.
“What did he want?” Thorin asks, opening his eyes.
“He’s heard of me and he knows I have a brother and he knows that he’s somewhere around here,” you say, looking at the ground.
“What do you mean he’s heard of you?”
“I travel often, Thorin. A hobbit that travels outside of the shire is unheard of so of course I would stir up some type of gossip. How he knows I have a brother is beyond my knowledge,” you say.
“What happened? In the forest?”
You sigh. You and Bilbo were the only ones to know about your visions. You hadn’t bothered telling anyone. You didn’t think anyone noticed, actually.
“We saw our parents. With me. Just me, no Bilbo,” you say. “It seems you had a rough childhood.”
That causes you to laugh sadly. Rough was an understatement.
You were a mistake. That’s what you heard when you were ten. You had gotten up one night needing to use the bathroom and you heard them talking about how you called Otho an ugly baby and had now ruined their relationship with the Sackville-Baggins and they wished they had not sired you in the first place. That night was the first time you ever cried yourself to sleep.
After that encounter, you found yourself spending most of your time in a tree somewhere far away from Bag End, but you always made it home before the sunset.
“Its not as bad as yours, trust me,” you tell Thorin.
“Still. I would like to hear about it. We’ve been travelling together long enough and I know about everyone’s lives but yours and Bilbo’s. As the leader of this company, it is my duty,” Thorin says and you roll your eyes, but you tell him.
You tell him about how you had no one except for Bilbo. How your parents always remembered all of Bilbo’s accomplishments but always forgot your birthday. How you were always the invisible child that no one’s even heard of. That’s why you left the Shire constantly. To make a name for yourself and you did. You were known as the bravest Hobbit around and not just y/n Baggins, the unwanted child.
“Do you have any siblings?” you ask, looking at him and he smiles sadly.
“I had two. Fili and Kili’s mother is the youngest of us three. Her name is Dis. I had a younger brother named Frerin. I lost him in the Battle of Moria,” he says.
“I’m sorry,” you say and he nods.
“It’s been years, but it still hurts. Kili and Fili remind me of Frerin and I, both looks wise and attitude wise,” he explains.
“I’m guessing Fili had your attitude, but Frerin’s looks,” you say and he laughs.
“He’s not as serious though,” he says and you smile.
Thorin had a rough life. You understood that, but you just didn’t know how bad he had it. He lost his Grandfather and his little brother all in one battle. You don’t know what you would do if you lost Bilbo.
“I reckon the sun is on the rise,” you hear Bofur say.
“We’re never going to get to the mountain are we?” Ori asks and you look up in surprise as you hear jingling keys.
“Not stuck in here you’re not,” Bilbo says and you smile as he unlocks your door. You pull him into a hug.
“I have a lot to apologize for when we get out of here,” Bilbo says and you nod, stepping out of the cell. He releases everyone else and soon you all are being led into the lower halls.
You begin to question whether Bilbo was sane as you realize you were now in their cellars.
Kili voices your thoughts.
“You brought us to their cellars!” Kili exclaims and you hit him as you see the sleeping elves.
“Trust me, I know what I’m doing,” Bilbo says, but Bofur hushes him. You all stand by the barrels and you now knew what Bilbo was planning.
“Get into the barrels,” Bilbo says. There it is.
Dwalin shoves past you and Thorin steadies you.
“Prick,” you mutter.
“Just. Trust me,” Bilbo pleads and no one is listening to him. Bilbo looks to Thorin for help.
“Do as he says,” Thorin snaps and everyone stops their grumbling and gets into the barrel.
You regret your choice to stay with thorin as all the bottom barrels get taken. “Uhm,” you mumble looking up at the only barrel that was open which is the top one. The barrel that was twice your height.
You hear a grunt and you look down to find Thorin kneeling on the ground with his hands clasped. He nods to the barrel. You smile before using his hand to get into the barrel. You twist so that your head is not at the bottom of the barrel.
“Now what?” Bofur asks.
“Hold your breath,” Bilbo replies pulling on a lever. You all scream as you start plunging down a ramp. When you get into the water, you spit out whatever water you swallowed and you look back at the ramp. It seems that Bilbo had forgot one thing: how he was supposed to get out. You turn around and you’re the last barrel. You hear the ramp open up again and Bilbo comes tumbling into the water.
“Good job Master Baggins,” Thorin says, smiling happily as Bilbo clings to your barrel. You lift him into your barrel. He was not too fond of water.
“Are you okay?” you both ask and the same time and you laugh.
“I am completely sorry for the way I acted. I had no right to pick on you like that. No right to pick on your insecurities,” Bilbo apologizes looking ahead as the both of you paddle to get further down.
You reach for his hand and give him a small smile as he looks at you.
“If there has been something that I learned from our parents is that you will be the only one that’s there for me no matter what our differences and because of that I will always forgive you and love you,” you say. He smiles and presses a kiss to your forehead before you are all suddenly plunging into the open water below.
You could see the elves chasing after you and there is a horn being blown. That could not be a good thing. And it wasn’t. It turns out that that horn was a signal to close the gates.
The elves pull their weapons out and you realize that you’re now stuck and would be thrown back into prison. Your eyes widen as an elf drops dead, the sword of an orc being pulled out of it’s body.
Orcs start attacking and you had absolutely no weapons. You were definitely going to die and you were so not ready.
Bilbo stabs an oncoming orc and it drops it weapon that Fili catches. You see Kili looking around before his eye stops at the lever. Kili gets out of the barrel and you follow him, trying as much as possible to have his back. Fili tosses you a weapon and you kill the oncoming orc, tossing the weapons back down. You try to gather the weapons and you collect five and toss them down before you see another orc with metal sticking out of his body aiming his arrow at Kili. You don’t think. You just do.
You push Kili out of the way and you feel the arrow pierce your arm. You let out a scream and Kili turns back to you in shock.
“Get the lever Kee! I’m fine,” you lie and he nods, pulling down the lever as new elves join the fray. You kill a few more orcs before pulling the arrow out and slipping into barrel with Bilbo. Kili jumps back into his and thus begins the bumpy ride down the stream.
When you get to the rocks at the end, you sit on the rock and Bilbo comes to kneel in front of you.
“Are you okay?” he asks as you tear your tunic and wrap it around your arm.
“I don’t think so. It hurts more than it should,” you say as you feel a hand hold yours steady. You look up and find Thorin. You stop and he wraps your arm. Bilbo raises his eyebrow and you shrug.
He walks off.
“You shouldn’t have. You’ve already been injured more than enough times,” Thorin says, tying the wrap.
“Kili was in danger. I had to do something. He’s important to you,” you say.
“So are you. Remember that,” Thorin says before walking off leaving you confused. What did he mean by that?
