if escape rooms as team building exercises became popular im not sure if id be more excited or terrified
#if it isnt already anyway.. i can see it happening as a school frosh thing. idk if it would catch on as a workplace thing#i kind of find the concept of being locked in with strangers and working to find a way out weirdly exhilarating though#at least compared to icebreakers cause i dont have to spend 10 minutes racking my brain for something to blurt out abt myself#as a bonus u could like. put people into groups and give prizes to whoever escapes first second third etc. apparently they also do themed#escape rooms.. maybe let people pick a theme? or voluntary sign up? actually this would be really fun for smth like a blind friend date#although if i found out i was locked in a room with an online friend id be too excited to actually escape LOL#ive never done an escape room before so sadly i cant speak from experience. its like up there on things i want to try next to rug tufting#workshop and visiting new art exhibits or conventions. i seriously need to get out more if it wasnt for the horrors <- school and anxiety#i was planning to invite cass to a drop-in art workshop in town but neither of us could go bc typography is making us go thru hell and back#AND THEY HAD A BUTTON MACHINE TOO#im nostalgic bc i miss working in groups and not being awkward abt it or worrying abt schedule conflicts#i realized that i learn best in groups and its a little corny but i like sharing ideas and talking through a problem#in elementary i could just sit down with friends for review and come out of it energized *and* more familiar with the material#and i could technically still do it now. but as adults we're more picky abt who we work with on top of being way more busy outside school#maybe im lonely. im shy and grew up not talking to ppl unless i absolutely have to so its hard to make friends on my own i guess#only thing getting me thru it is telling myself that humans like helping and that my cringe is overblown in my head. but its hard#hence the escape rooms. i have been able to talk to 2(!!) people though!! mostly abt school stuff but im glad to be on friendly terms#i dont really know how to be happy these days cause im constantly scaring myself abt my portfolio and finding places to work#not being ambitious is part of not wanting to put energy into something that wont work out while also not having the passion to do literall#anything else.. i should probably talk to my counsellor ugh#yapping

Until Data Falls…
What follows is a data friendly write up about the source material.
For everyone else who isn’t a cheapskate, or isn’t otherwise vexed by the ridiculous process of data bundles, please have a look at the video segment above.
[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”28680″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Most stories of a love for anything geek start out with a beloved childhood toy or fond memory that got us started down the road to the awesomeness that is Geek Culture.
Most of those stories usually involve an affirmation, oath or undertaking to visit Comic Con.
What was previously a dream has now become a reality.
Now finally… Comic Con Africa is upon us!
It’s been roughly a week since the official announcement and everyone has had their feeds flooded with piece-meal information blurbs and reports about the buildup to the announcement and the road map to Comic Con Africa.
We thought we would help streamline the process with a recap of the last few days.
So here we go![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”28668″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]THE BEST YET POSSIBLY WORST KEPT SECRET SINCE VALENTINES DAY
In the build up to the official launch of Comic Con Africa, the Geek Culture underground was abuzz with rumours as a media campaign by Reed Exhibitions South Africa and VSGaming promised that “Your Heroes Are Coming”.
Was it a press tour? Was it an early April Fools day prank?
Dare we dream…Was it Comic Con?
On 20 February 2018 the whose-who of the South African Geek and Gaming Scene joined some of the biggest media outlets to bear witness to History in the Making.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”28688″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]THE LAUNCH EVENT – A GREAT TASTE OF THE MAGIC TO COME
The glitzy bash, (organised by the team spearheading the Comic Con Africa initiative) was well attended and after much speculation among attendees the moment arrived as the official Launch Video was aired to tumultuous applause from attendees.
Guests were enthralled by tales from Black Panther cast members Dr. John Kani and Madam Connie Chiume who pulled back the veil and shared epic tales of their time on set and the hype of the Black Panther movie.
All attendees received more information relating to some of the guests and logistics for Comic Con Africa.
I think the highlight moment for this writer was during the photo/meet and greet session when I asked Dr. Kani if he would mind posing in the “Wakanda Forever” pose and he graciously obliged and said:
“My Boy – you place your right hand over your heart and your left hand over the right, then stand tall as you shout Wakanda Forever!”
If course I had to oblige and the photographer nearly dropped the camera with shock…
#noregrets[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”28689″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]THE HYPE – THE MANIA- THE SHEER UTTER AWESOMENESS!!!
Comic Con Africa will take place from 14 – 16 September 2018.
The event will be held at the Kyalami International Convention Centre on September 14-16, 2018, courtesy of Reed Exhibitions Africa.
Day passes will go on sale in this week and will cost R 120 a pop with weekend passes due to be announced soon.
Guests will include some of the biggest names in Pop and Geek Culture today with loads of signings, panels and workshops being scheduled throughout the weekend.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”28669″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]CONTROVERSY – RAGE AGAINST THE CON?
For reasons unknown, the announcement has sparked some controversy in the South African Geeko-sphere.
One detractor on social media questioned the timing of the Convention noting that RAGE 2018, another major convention in South Africa is scheduled for roughly a month later.
Other parties voiced concern that we have previously been promised a Comic Con with no such luck in the past from as long ago as 2013.
For our part GES (and this writer in particular), are confident that there is more than enough space on the calendar (and love for all things geek) for the various conventions and events scheduled throughout this year.
The existence of another premiere event will serve only to grow the local Geek Culture community.
When asked, organisers and senior officials linked to Comic Con Africa confirmed their view that the South African Geek / Gamer and Pop Culture Fandoms are renown worldwide for their enthusiasm and this International Level event will act as another platform for attendees to celebrate their hobbies interests and fandom.
‘Nuff said.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”28684″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAIL  – WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
