AORUS 7 Gaming Laptop Review
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We had the opportunity to review the brand new Gigabyte AORUS 7(SA variant) gaming laptop. The AORUS 7 has the tagline “Be Premium” and it delivers on all fronts.
The AORUS 7 features a Intel 9th Gen i7-9750H cpu, 16gb DDR4 2666 ram, a LG 17.3 inch 144Hz Full HD IPS panel(which is gorgeous to look at) and to drive the panel a Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti 6gb graphics card. What really pushes the unit to its limit is the PCIe NVME Intel SSD that they included as the main drive! Compared to my desktop’s SSD it is blistering fast and this was only with the one M.2 installed, you do get another M.2 slot for more expandability. The AORUS 7 SA variant can support up to 64Gb of DDR4 ram, where as the NA and GA can only do up to 32Gb of ram.
So all of the specs on the AORUS 7 is epic(for its price class), but does it perform? It does, it really does. Running 3DMark Time Spy I got a solid 5788 overall score, I even got 3 Achievements based on the specs of the unit! Thanks to the 144Hz screen and the GTX 1660 Ti I got solid 60+ frames when I played Tomb Raider, Warhammer and even Strange Brigade. The AORUS 7 set out to be the best FHD gaming laptop you can buy and It did it with flying colours.
The AORUS 7 is not just for gaming(even if its being sold as such), it also a workhorse when it comes to productivity. Thanks to the LG IPS screen your colour reproduction is really good(mits you do a colour calibration on the screen, Tip bring down the brightness of the screen) and working with big files is a stitch. Something that I really loved of the unit is that the Ethernet port, power plug and external HDMI sits at the back of the Laptop.
Overall I am Loved the AORUS 7 laptop. It features really good preformance in games and creator type programs, for R26999 you get a all round performer. It does also feature a RGB keyboard and killer lan. I would recommend this to any gamer looking at upgrade there laptop. You would not be sorry for the upgrade. This is your local mad scientist signing out….now to save up for my own AORUS 7
CPU: Intel 9th Gen i7-9750H GPU: Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti 6Gb RAM: Samsung 2x8GB DDR4-2666(upgradable to 64GB) Screen: LG 17.3″ FHD 144Hz
Storage: 1x M.2 NVMe 512GB, 1x 2.5 1TB HDD OS: Windows 10 Home Price: R26999 RRP R26969 (Rebeltech) R26539 (Wootware)

ASUS ROG Chakram gaming mouse review
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ASUS ROG has released their new flagship wireless gaming mouse, the ROG Chakram. The ROG Chakram’s name is based on the weapon used by Indian Warriors and you would soon see why. The reason for this is because of the added Joystick that the Chakram have. This is also one of the reasons why the ROG Chakram won the 2020 IF design award. This joystick is a nice feature to have as you don’t need a extra controller for playing controler based games. I played a bit with it on the new Darksiders Genesis PC game and it helped me alot in the game. It’s also not that hard to set it up to play in the games.
The ROG Chakram features triple connectivity, Dual 2.4GHz Wireless, Bluetooth LE and a wired connection for when you really feel the need to be plugged in to the matrix…ag I meen computer. There was almost zero lag on the 2.4GHz connection when I used it, thanks to the 1000Hz polling rate and it’s as smooth as butter on toast! A feature that I didn’t get to check out and think makes this mouse really worthwhile is the fact that it has Qi charging. Gone are the days of changing out batteries, just plonk this bad boy onto a charging pad and in about 1.8hours you got a fully charged mouse again. From what I have read online you can use a Samsung charging pad with the ROG Chakram. ASUS says that you can get upto 79 hours of gameplay out before you have to charge the mouse again.
As with almost ally gaming related hardware the ROG Chakram features RGB lighting, which you can change in ASUS Armory II software. You can even set the lights so that it shows you what your battery level is! In the box you also get extra OMRON switches that you can (with very little hassle) switch out with the units in the mouse. Going with the whole DIY scene, you can even customize the ROG logo with your own thanks to the included blank disc. Also all the covers(and the two main buttons) on the ROG Chakram is magnetic.
Overall I was really pleased with the ROG Chakram gaming mouse. I could use it with all 3 connection types and didn’t see a drop in preformance. I can’t yet say what the pricing would be like but from what i could read up on it would be about $150(R2300) for the ROG Chakram….which is not too bad for what you do get. I would recommend this to any gamer that wants performance and wants to go wireless. This is your local mad scientist signing out…..Now I wonder when the ROG Qi mouse pad is coming out???

Dr Kawashima’s Brain training for Nintendo Switch Review
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dr Kawashima’s Brain training has been a learning genre game for a number of years. It was first introduced on the Nintendo DS and 3DS and now we can have fun on the Nintendo SWITCH with a more interactive experience.
The game is retailed with a stylus that aids you with your game play and some of the activities are performed with the joy-cons such as Rock, paper, scissors or finger counting. The IR motion camera on the right joy-con picks up your finger shape and processes the image based on your hand movement and registers it as your chosen answer, so I hope your math skills are up to scratch.
As you do your daily training you unlock new exercises and some of them are not just for training but also just to unwind. The game focuses on your ability to process information quickly and tests your skills from reading out loud, speed reading, math calculations, duel selection, music and so much more. My favourite is sudoku. You can also test your brain age with the IR motion sensor capability. The brain age test puts you through a series of exercises that test different areas of your prefrontal cortex and based on that data your brain age is calculated. Each week you redo your brain age to see how far you’ve come from starting the game to a few months down the line of game/learning play.
Dr Kawashima’s Brain training is fun for the whole family. If you have multiple users on your Nintendo SWITCH, then each player’s data is logged to their own profile. You can compete amongst your family members and there is also an option to upload your data to the community data bank and compete with other people. Some of the games are also designed for co-op play, so it is not just your individual scores that get measured on a score board, but you can play against a family member is match of skill and wit.

This is a fun and interactive game to play. If you make it feel like work it will be, but if you enjoy training that grey matter to keep a healthy brain then go ahead and try out: Dr Kawashima’s Brain training.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions♯FE Encore Game Review
Back in 2015/16 Atlus and Nintendo joined forces for a crossover of there Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem series for the Nintendo Wii U, out of the collaboration came Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯ FE. At the time it was a bit of a sleeper hit but was received well by fans and was later chosen for best game on the Nintendo Wii U!
Fast forward to 2020 and we get an Enhanced port aptly named Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯ FE Encore. Tokyo Mirage is a full Japanese dub(with english subs….just the way we like our Anime) game and features new story content and new party members not featured in the original game. One funny thing that has happened is that, with the simultaneous release of the game(so instead of releasing it first in Japan then few months later the rest of the world) Nintendo opted to go with the Western Localization of the game….which upset there Japanese fans. The reason for a Western Localization release is due to age restrictions in Japan is totally different to what we have here in the West.
The game features beautifully animated cutscenes and the song selection(seeing as this game is about singing) is great to listen to. The songs is also a reason why the game only features Japanese voice over, as it would have taken a full extra year to get English singers to perform the songs! Tokyo Mirage features a classic turn based RPG system(at its base) and to me it feels alot like the Persona series(gameplay wise) which I Love!! The characters is not as deep and complex as what you would get in a Shin Megami game but still likeable and relatable.
Overall I am really pleased with Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯ FE Encore, it is a JPRG from Atlus and Nintendo….who would not love it! The gameplay is smooth, the cutscenes is beautifully animated and awesome songs. I would recommend this to any Turnbased RPG or JPRG fans or if you a Atlus games fan. This is your local mad scientist signing out….

Acer Predator Helios 300 Laptop Review
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We had a look at the new 2019 refresh of Acer’s Predator Helios 300 gaming laptop, a slimmer and more streamlined 300. The updated Helios 300 comes with a RTX2060 6GB, RGB Keyboard, 16GB of 2666Mhz DDR4 ram, to name a few upgrades to last years model.
What a love about the New Helios 300 is that it looks and feel solid. It even looks like a complete new laptop compared with last year’s model. The LCD panel in the Helios 300 is a 1080p 144hz screen and this is connected to the RTX2060, where in all my games I tested the unit with got between 70-100fps. Even when I was running the games and got into some graphics intense scenes they fans wasn’t to loud. The colour fidelity on the screen is great seeing as it is an IPS screen you can look forward to almost 100% sRGB colour palette(great for photoshop work). The LCD panel is also very bright and I would suggest dropping the brightness to about half.
On battery preformance I got a good solid 4 hours(and a bit) on the unit when watching youtube vids(how to get shiny pokemon) and doing general work. But when I started gaming, I got about an hour and a half worth on one full charge. The sound on the Helios 300 is also great.
Overall I was really pleased with the new Predator Helios 300. I really think Acer did an excellent job and it will fulfill any gamers need. The price might be a bit high coming in at R29999.00 but for what you getting it would be worth your while. I loved the overall sleek design and the Teal LED accents on the unit. I would recommend this to any gamer looking for a good gaming laptop that would also double as a good work laptop. This is your local mad scientist signing out….

Sid Meyer’s Civilization VI Console Review
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Civilization VI was first released in 2016 and had two expansion released in between, Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm. Now console players can rejoice as Civilization VI is out on PS4, Xbox One and Switch.
We’ve covered this game before on PC and if you are keen to read the review you can check it our here. Instead of going through what the game is about I will talk more about how the game is on console and what you can expect differently.
The console version of Civilization VI includes some scenario packs and you get some extra civilizations to play with. The Vikings Scenario Pack, Poland, Australia, Persia and Macedon Civilization & Scenario Pack are included and if you buy it on the PS4 you get Nubia, Indonesia and Khmer Civilization & Scenario Pack as well. The 2 DLC expansions Rise and Fall & Gathering Storm you will have to buy separately for R629 but they are definitely worth it, you can read our two reviews on them here: Rise and Fall | Gathering Storm
If you are familiar with Civilization VI and have played it on the PC there is no need to redo the tutorial, as you start a game it will prompt you to ask if you are new to this series, familiar with it or new to it on console. Simply chose the new to it on console to get some tutorial tips on the controls.
The controls are something to get used to as you do not have a keyboard or mouse for fast scrolling around the map, but with the analogue sticks it makes it quite simple as well. The game adjusts the zoom level very well and will zoom in with certain actions to deliver better visuals. You can also use the L2 and R2 buttons to zoom in and out manually.
My one concern was for me to miss out on some notifications but the controls compensates for it by having a dedicated button (Square) assigned to open up your notifications panel and then you can also press triangle to get more info on the event or go to the location.
Playing multiplayer has never been so easy on consoles but to make it even better, you can now play hotseat multiplayer with this on your console. Invite a friend over for a weekend of Civilizations VI fun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sid Meyer’s Civilization VI is a game that you play when you want to chill and take things slow and now it is even better being able to do that from the comfort of your couch. The only downside is that you can now not watch TV while playing it but I’m sure us Techies will make a plan. I’m a huge strategy fan and was very excited to get to play this on my PS4, this will most probably eat away at my game time these holidays.

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts Review
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first Sniper Ghost Warrior launched in 2010 and now 9 years later, 3 games released in the series, we now have Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts.
Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts focusses more on, as the name implies, contracts. You are tasks with heavy missions to take out targets with some other goals along the way. The game gives you a Hitman feel but instead in a special forces military style.
There is about 10 targets, 5 maps and 15 other contracts for you to take on and though it might sound like very little, one mission can take you hours to finish, depending on your play style. The key of the game is stealth and trying to accomplish your goals without being discovered. There is a tutorial in the beginning to teach you the basic of the game, how your riffle scope works, your advanced mask and different types of bullets and gadgets you get.
The game is designed to the reality of shooting through a scope where wind and distance affect your bullet’s trajectory but in the same sense has a bit of action and fiction in between. For instance, one bullet type you get is called DARPA that ignores distance and weather. Other types of bullets that you will get include tagging, EMP, explosive and Armour piercing which adds a great dynamic to your play. Apart from bullets you get some awesome gadgets like a riffle turret and a drone.
Graphics look beautiful with some great settings on the different maps. The controls work even though movement is not always that smooth. Climbing walls and structures could be more smooth but it is great that they added this versatility to the game allowing you more ways to cross buildings and get to places.

Pokémon Sword Nintendo Switch Review
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the 15th of November we saw the new release from Game Freak and The Pokémon Company, Pokémon Sword and Shield. I had the a chance to play Pokémon Sword(need to get Shield as well), and there is a lot of improvement from the Pokémon Ultra Moon. Sword and Shield is based in the Galar Region which is based on Great Britain, it also ads 81 new Pokemon with 13 regional variants of existing Pokémon. I love the new starter Pokémon! I picked Scorbunny, a fire type Pokémon(even got it to evolve…looks almost like a moody teenager, can’t wait to see it’s next evolution). The story is basically the same as all the other Pokémon games that has come out, you set out to conquer the regions Gym Leaders to become the regions new Champion….that’s if you can beat the current champ Leon(no relation to GES’s boss). Speaking of Gym leaders and Pokémon Gym’s, they make a nice return(as they were not in Sun/Moon/Ultra-Sun/Ultra-Moon) to Pokémon Sword & Shield. Always loved playing against Gym Leaders and their cronies. So far the Gym challenges is a lot better. You get to solve puzzles and even heard wooloo Pokémon!
They also added some new features to Pokémon Sword & Shield, Poké Job’s. You can send out your Pokémon(each job has specific Pokémon requirements) and when your Pokémon comes back they get experience and sometimes even bring back Rare Items! This helps you Pokémon that is in your box get experience so they won’t be the level that you caught them at. Another feature they have added is the new Dynamax and Gigantamax, this is done by getting a wishing star. What it does is increase the physical size of your pokemon and gives them a more devastating attack and from the Gigantamax you can already just imagine how big they do become. The Gigantamax is unfortunately only limited to a select Pokémon in the game.
Pokémon Sword & Shield also features a explorable open world with free camera movement where you can capture all kinds of new and exciting Pokémon! The “Wild Area” even features dynamic weather that and day night cycles that affects the type of Pokémon that you can catch. A feature I can’t wait to get is the new updated Pokémon Home, a replacement of sorts for the Nintendo 3DS’s Pokémon Bank. This would let you transfer Pokémon from your 3DS games to the new Pokémon Sword & Shield. A welcome feature for me is that you can access your PC Box in areas that is normally not a Pokémon Center.
Overall I am really pleased with Pokémon Sword and would recommend this to any Pokémon fan. With lots of improvements to the overall gameplay and new features it is a blast to play. The one thing they should maybe look at doing(and this is me nitpicking) is the animation for the humans. This is your local mad scientist signing out…..when is my Scorbunny getting its next evolve!

Age of Wonders: Planetfall Revelations Review
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Age of Wonders: Planetfall’s first DLC Revelations is here and we take a look at what this DLC means to add to the game.
Earlier this year in August I reviewed Planetfall and you can read the review here. This review will focus on the DLC Revelations, what it changes and brings new to Planetfall.
There are two new campaigns to play in the DLC and mostly revolve around the Es’teq dynasty. The base of the plot is that there’s an ancient utopian civilisation that is being brought back to life to take over the universe. The story is darker than that of the base game and with it brings along some new quest types and secret tech: Heritor.
The new quest type is called Anomalous Sites. Explore 30+ mysterious sites filled with traps and powerful enemies to reap unique rewards and uncover great secrets. With unique choices based on each faction, race or Secret Technology, players can combine multiple sites to create endlessly different combat instances. The sites come with their own rewards, for example turning them into Landmarks for added bonuses to your Colony, or giving you new units to add to your armies.
The Heritor tech is quite powerful, it is used to drain your enemies’ power which in turn can be used for various things like bringing back old allies (Summon new units), using powerful abilities and creating strong weapons. Tomb World Scenario brings Heritor enemies create an onslaught of destruction. This scenario also includes a new multiplayer questline to allow more players to join in on the action. Other changes made to Planetfall is included for the base game as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Revelations adds some more flair to the game, and this creates a lot of excitement for Seaosn Pass owners as there are still two major DLCs to come. Age of Wonders: Planetfal revelations expands on the great game and had me spent tons of hours again on this game. This game will eat away at your time and you will not even notice it. One of my favourite genres and this is definitely on of my favourite series.

The Witcher 3 Switch Review
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Witcher 3 was first released in 2015 and is still making it to the top of a lot of game talk. With all the re-release games we are seeing on the Nintendo Switch, it is a no brainer that The Witcher 3 gets added to that pile as well.
If you want to check out our review of The Witcher 3 game then get it here where as in this article I will talk more about how this game relates to the Switch release and if it is worth getting.
Everyone know that The Witcher 3 is a resource hungry game and the biggest concern is how will a smaller system handle less powerful hardware. The great news is that the Switch systems runs the game really well, the graphics has been downscaled to 720p in docked mode and 540p in handheld mode. You can see some comparison images below between other systems and the switch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s still some beautiful graphics left to look at like sun rays shining through wind blown trees and shadows flowing across the ground. The menus scale dynamically which is fantastic and it means you will not have to squint our eyes to read text or detail in menus in the handheld mode. If you have never played The Witcher 3 before then this will be an amazing journey and experience for you. If you do own it on any other platform then be ready to let go of some graphical detail but be excited for having The Witcher 3 ready to play where ever you go.

Power Rangers Beast Morphers: Beast-X Megazord – 2019 Xmas Gift Guide
Would you believe that the Power Rangers series has been around for 26 year? Well, believe it, Power Rangers first appeared on our screen over 26 years ago and has built a solid fan base since and creating new ones with every new generation.
Power Ranger Beast Morphers is the latest in the series and started airing locally on DSTV since 26 September 2019. We had the opportunity to look at one of the toy ranges that is now available in store. Yes, I am lucky enough to look at the Beast-X Megazord.
The Beast-X Megazord stand 25cm tall and includes weapon accessories to better battle your enemies. The figure is made of good quality material with normal arm and leg manoeuvrability. The hands can also rotate in a 360 circle movement and lastly the head can rotate about 70 degrees. One fault I could find is that the back of a lot of the parts are empty, for instance, the sword is whole on the one side, but the other side is and indented shell. For more realistic appeal this could have been full moulds in the back and front.
Everyone has a favourite Power Ranger but morphing together as a team and forming the Beast-X Megazord is the next best step and the only toy that will beat this in the series is the Beast-X Ultrazord.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Review
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Based on the 2020 Summer Olympics that will happen in Tokyo and this is the 6th Mario & Sonic game in the Series. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 has a few things different form the previous 2016 Rio game.
This is the first game in the series that is released on the Switch and with the versatility of the switch it allowed them to add some creativity in the gameplay of the game. You can choose to use the Joy-Cons’ motion functionality to play or use traditional button style. As the name of the series implies, the game features a cross over of characters between the Mario and Sonic universe.
What stood out for me in this game is the 8- & 16-bit 2D mode that is included, this is based on the 1964 Summer Olympics that was also held in Tokyo and the story of the game ties this nicely into perspective. Basically, Doctor Eggman and Bowser tries to trick Mario and Sonic and send them back into the past so that they can rule the Olympics. As things happen, it backfires, and they also get transported back to 1964. Back in the future, Luigi and other friends try to gather up a plan to rescue Mario and Sonic. In 1964, Mario and Sonic challenge Doctor Eggman and Bowser to the different events in order to see if that will help them get back to the future. The story mode is cool to play and an interesting spin on the usual story of this series. With that said, the dialogue and slow progression of the story can get to you after a while and you will more likely play the other modes instead.
Some new events have been included like Karate, Skateboarding, Sport Climbing and Surfing with some favourites returning that was previously introduced. Not all the events are available in the 2D mode and vice versa. An official video game for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be released worldwide next year but it was developed the same time with Mario and Sonic by Sega. This game has already been released in Tokyo to build-up for the games.
The graphic switch between the modern and 2D mode is great and the 2D mode will definitely stir up some old memories. The look of the game ties into the visuals of what you would expect from a Mario or Sonic game and the hardware of the Nintendo Switch doesn’t seem to struggle on any level to support the game.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 is a cool addition to the series, and I like that they went a different route with the story mode even though it is still heavily focussed on dialogue and has slow progression. I like the new events that has been added and obviously love the 2D mode. If you enjoy these type of sport games then you will enjoy this game just do not expect a wow factor from the story but tons of fun from local and online multiplayer.
