Diary of a Lockdown (from Bali) - 6 June 2021
I’m enjoying my time waking up late, having breakfast, going to the beach and witnessing a beautiful sunset. Hahaha. But people think that living in Bali means you get to longue all day long, it’s really not.
I still wake up, well, later than usual because it’s one hour ahead from the Jakarta time - so that’s a plus point. I wake up, take a shower, then stuck in my desk almost the whole day. Because my work requires A LOT of meeting call, so it’s inconvenient for me to work from a cafe or anything like that. So I just accept that fact. If there’s a possibility, maybe if I have a half-day with no meeting, it might tempt me to go outside, but I don’t know, it always seems like too much hassle because you have to prepare, get dressed, order a taxi or something like that. Better to stay in until the post-office hour :D
But weekend? Oh, weekend is my favorite!
Literally, now I get why people love friday night so much. It hit different, the feeling that you’ll have 2 days off ahead of you when you don’t have to think about work at all, you can do WHATEVER you want. Wohoooo!
I used to set a lot of target when I’m traveling to Bali. There’s so much to try but there’s not much time. But this time, it’s different, too. Because I feel like I’m “living” here, so I feel more relaxed and “go with the flow”. I don’t want to set up an itinerary or something like that, at all. I just go wherever I feel like going at that time.
Like, yesterday, I woke up late, then had a late lunch. Went to supermarket for a quick snack top-up, then visited Seminyak Beach. Just standing there for 1.5 hour straight, feeling the waves crashing to my feet, watching the sun slowly set. Just, be there. 100%.
So, so relaxing. And it made me really think, how beautiful is a beach in Bali? Like, the actual beach, not the beach club, mind you. The beach is the one place visited by everyone. EVERYONE, regardless of their nationalities, religions, social classes. You just blend, with everyone, with hundreds of people from different paths of lives. So beautiful, isn’t it? Not many places can provide that.
I tried to walk to my favorite yoghurt place, the Frozen Yogi. BUT, the narrow road was really creepy and quiet, and it was right after the sunset, so the lighting was minimal. I decided NOT to take the risk and hailed a ride instead hahahaha. Oh hell, no.
But then I got so much fun on the Frozen Yogi, my self-serve yoghurt place where you can go nuts with your yoghurt topping. I love it so much!! I had probably around 200 grams of plain & blueberry yoghurt, then topped it off with fruit loops, granola, nutella sauce, strawberry, lychee, oreo, and chocolate chip. And you know what’s the biggest surprise was? It only costs IDR60,000!
It’s like I’m in heaven! I really took my time with every bite, pledging that I’ll be visiting more often now that it’s so worth it. I mean, look at that full bowl!
SERVE YO SELF - I agree!
To conclude my day, I ordered McSpicy burger. What a perfect end. Later on I’d be regretting my decision, since I woke up with an upset tummy. I think the combination of 200 grams of yoghurt + spicy burger is too much to handle HAHAHAHA.
On Sunday, I woke up even later because I didn’t set any alarm for myself. I played a little game in my laptop, then took a shower and went to have a ramen bowl. It was so so. Then I walked all the way to Kuta Beach, I think it was around 2 kilometers, but on the way I felt really sad, though. The Seminyak street, the Legian street, they are all almost empty. Most tenants and shops have closed down. These streets used to be buzzing all day, all night! :((( So sad to see the pandemic has brought down so many people’s sources of living. I tried to help as much as I can, shop in the local tenants, but my little help has no significance, isn’t it?
All those long walks pay off when I got to the gate of Kuta beach. Ah, the familiar view. I think I’ve passed it a hundred times before. And when I was walking down the road to Kuta, it always reminds me of the time I visited Bali (a lot) with my family. Back then I was still a kid, a teenager. I had no money, my parents didn’t allow me to wander around, I had no idea what to do. There were so many interesting things I want to see, but I just kept it in my mind like “Nevermind, I’ll just keep it to myself, save up to visit Bali on my own someday, so I can do whatever I want.”
And well, 10-15 years later, here I am :’’) Wandering around, “living” temporarily in the Island of the Gods, doing whatever I want, wherever I want. Life be like that sometimes, huh?
The sunset was magical. My best friend asks me, “Why are you never bored swimming or visiting the beach?”
Well because, that. That view right there. That’s the reason I’ll keep coming back :)

Ia menyebut sejumlah startup unicorn di Indonesia sangat berpotensi untuk mendukung program Work From Bali.

Faktor pendorong Jauh sebelum pandemi terjadi dan seruan work from Bali untuk membantu pemulihan pariwisata.
