Fire in the sky

This afternoon we got an alert that neighborhoods near us were getting evacuation warnings due to a fire. And of course neighborhoods near those ones had full evacuation orders. We didn't get the alert until mid-afternoon, but it feels like it took up the whole day since it became such a big mental load. I had half a dozen tabs open following many different maps and feeds keeping track of warnings and orders in case we got included in the warning zone.

The added stress may have had something to do with the fact that I was up late finishing a book. Vanishing Fleece: Adventures in American Wool by Clara Parkes. It is nicely written and flows through an adventure in what it looks like to move through the wool industry from sheep to dyed yarn. I went to my shelf and immediately picked out the next book to read and picked out Threads of Life: A History of the World Through the Eye of a Needle by Clare Hunter. I'm hoping I'll come away with some inspiration to get into more sewing projects since the wool one got me really inspired to work on fiber craft.

Speaking of inspiration in fiber craft...I twisted more iris cordage today and I think this second session already shows so much progress in technique and I feel so good working on it. I hope to save some leaves to teach my aunt this technique when she visits this weekend.

And another way to...unwind? after a stressful day, I spun some of the llama fluff I've been processing and it felt really good to get progress on it that wasn't just a short yard sample. Too many projects, so even if I can focus on them for an hour or so at a time, at least I'm making progress on them!
