Christmas and Snow
Somebody once said that the only way to enjoy the sight of snow is when looking at a postcard or a painting. I have spent a number of Christmas Days in hot climes such as Karachi and Melbourne and know that Christmas is not Christmas without snow. The nuckelavee is said to be the most horrific of Scotland’s mythical monsters. Descriptions of the creature vary, but one in depth account states that the creature appeared as a horse, only with a mans torso attached to its back like an unfortunate rider. Both the horse and man were skinless, black blood pushing through its veins.
The creature came from the sea and despised freshwater - including rain - so could be escaped by fleeing into a river or lake. It’s breath can cause crops to wither, livestock to die and men to sicken. Fortunately the Nuckelavee is kept chained during the summer months, so is only a threat in winter.
